J5 2016 - Camera improvements?! - Samsung Galaxy J5 Questions & Answers

How can j5's 2016 13 mpx camera be so bad and how it can be improved?
The colors and vibrance look good only on the phone, when you watch them on pc they look pale with no vibrance and sharpness at all, even on photos took in full daylight, low light/night shots are a joke, everything is a huge pixel..
What can do?

Phone is phone and its camera is made to take and share pictures.
Want better pictures quality? Then buy a professional camera.
It is my opinion.

not looking for professional level photo quality, just decent quality, because I really think the quality this 13 mpx camera gives its far from decent.
On another note, how can J7 2016 have better picture quality than J5 2016 having the same exact camera hardware? is it via software? I am looking for THAT software!
Here are some photos I took with my J5 2016

Selfie quality

You're beautiful and everyone knows it. That's why you take selfies. Rate this thread to express how the front-facing camera of the Xiaomi Poco F1 performs. A higher rating indicates that the front camera produces fantastic results consistently.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I've rated selfie cam average coz it's a mixed bag
In artificial lighting conditions it produces somewhat blurry images. In fact selfies in complete darkness with the screen flash look better than selfies in artificial lights such as tubelights, bulbs etc. Bokeh selfies are better with more details as compared to normal selfies.
I'm talking about selfies with 0 beautification.
I must admit that I'm coming from nexus 5 which has 1.2 mp front camera so maybe I was expecting a bit too much from the 20 mp cam of Poco f1!
Come to think of it, various hardware checking apps show front camera as 5 mp!
May be they are detecting secondary camera at the back as front camera...anyone knows any app that detects all 3 cameras (megapixel and sensor used) correctly??!
It is correct with 5mp. The Cam combines four Pixels top one Superpixel.
I thought it's detecting 5 mp is secondary back camera and mistaking it for front cam

So you mean the front camera is actually a 5 mp cam and it should be denoted as such in hardware info apps such as CPU X? This explains why the selfie quality wasn't much much better as I had expected. I'm not that impressed with this 4 pixel combining to form a Superpixel technology....at least in poor lighting conditions.
It would also mean that the secondary 5 mp camera at the back isn't mentioned in the information generated by such apps!
Shouldn't it be mentioned?
I hope I'm clear on this point.
Noticed nowadays new camera unable to capture sharp pic for grp selfie
Grp selfie is where u at front n few members at the back to ensure everyone fit it in the picture
But what happen is only ur pic is sharp while the rest quite blur
This not happened during single lens with fix focus like s7 or 2016 model
How to fix this ?
I must admit that the selfies come out blurry when taken indoors especially when taken with volume rocker. It shakes up due to the press of the button. Do you guys face that?

Yes indeed. But just verifying if it's only my phone gets blurry due to such small shakes.

It's the same with me also, even on the rear camera most of the pictures taken on artificial lighting conditions are blurry because of that shaking.
The correct name for this thread is "Blurry camera" Quality
Even with the tripod its taking blurry shot - Cool is it ?
Need a Fix for this soon
The youtube reviews were good regarding the front camera & even the photos were good. Were the review units different or the camera hardware in the 8gb+256gb?

I see the phone uses a 20MP sensor from Samsung.
This not a real 20MP camera...I mean, it can't be! Or it's very, VERY bad, even in natural light conditions.
The quality of selfies is way inferior to the 12MP sensor of the back camera.
The amount of details captured by it makes it look more like a 5-8MP sensor...

Nice travesty
It's pretty good considering Huawei and Samsung selfie are overfiltered and poor quality.
This one can see your pores and pixel bins to prevent noise.
Hi look at this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssw9H08ddlw
You guys are completely crazy or have fault devices. The frontal camera is absolutely amazing. My girlfriend have a XS and its there's no comparison, F1 is much better in every way. You just need to turn off Beautiful Mode and increase sharpness on Options to make things more clear. It's one of the best selfie cameras that I ever see in my life. Get out of here you guys.
But there's a issue that Xiaomi need to fix. The camera dont focus acurately subjects at 1 meter from device. If you use Selfie Group Mode, the problem is gone.
The issue is with focus which is fixed at a distance of around 50cm. Beyond that, objects get blurred.

Low light

At the club, at the bar, or just in your mom's basement, nighttime is when you come out to play. Rate this thread to express how the Samsung Galaxy S10's camera performs when no or low light is present. A higher rating indicates that the camera sensor "sees" lots of light in dim conditions, and that the resulting photos have minimal noise. A higher rating also indicates that when the flash fires, the resulting photo is evenly-lit without any bright spots.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
S10 has f/1.5 aperture for rear camera and f/1.7 for selfie camera. It means alot for low light photography.
I'm pre ordering the S10 + and after seeing online samples, have little hopes it will.do any better than my note 9
Same orange tint and lag that blurs pics in artificial light is already apparent.
I use gcam for all indoor shots and hope it works on the S10 too....unless they've done some software update on release to fix it.
Ok, had a good 30 mins hands on with S10plus and shutter lag is gone.... orange tint still remains though
I'm hopeful low light photos will match my S9. I have taken some perfect very low light shots with it and I'm hoping the S10 will do the same.

looking forward to better cam
I am really looking forward to a better camera and hope that this camera can capture red and pinks. I am currently upgrading from a s4 that really had issues with colors.
Not too shabby ...
its good, but not mate 20 pro good.
only device i can compare with right now since i have both
It's all software, not sure why they can't make it perfect. Google has been using pretty much the same camera since Pixel 1 or even Nexus 6p and it's still one of the best because of software processing
It is still behind Google Pixel.

Totally true. If Google can make that software then can Samsung. Samsung has the capability and resources of doing research. I am coming from pixel 3 and low light performance of s10 is way behind than pixel. Even the day light shots look over exposed. Not sure if they did take this decision deliberately or their QA department is potato.

Gcam on my lgv40 is 1,000 better than this phone. Wide angle shots are almost unusable on this phone
Compared low light against S9+ and I noticed a difference in exposure time and iso.
S9 has lower iso but more exposure time and a bit more noise reduction.
S10 on the other hand chooses for higher iso and less exposure.
Both have advantages and disadvantages and depends on preferences. For static objects S9 look better but for moving objects S10 is better.
If you can hold your phone steady, S9 can make great photos with low light. But I think S10 will be better for majority of people.
S10 is now more like Apple's approach for taking photos. There's a little more noise but also less blur.
Night mode on S10 is awful btw. They really should make this better.
A quick snap outside my gym's window
Very low light photo... Not bad at all... Just point and shoot
staggering amount of noise, sadly nothing is improved on the same S9+ lens
Sorry
With sam
Dont expect great camera at night

About the camera

I watched so many reviews on this device, I bought a 64GB variant. Camera is so average even on daylight, Front camera is straight rubbish in medium - low light conditions. G cam don't fix this either. Is it me or every device has this problem?

Yes, camera is bad in low light conditions, take a closer look at details on picture taken at night.
I don't really know about you guys, but mine is just straight up awesome. I was on a 7 day trip in Vienna with a friend of mine, made a bunch of photos, in maximum sun light conditions, medium light conditions, low light conditions, and the photos weren't bad at all. My friend actually picked a photo from my phone to upload on his instagram. (gotta add that he currently owns an iPhone XS Max)
The main camera is top notch, the wide and tele have terrible color depth, lens flares, purple fringing, noise.
GCam fixes those pretty well though.

The main camera has a competent sensor on paper, but in real life, even with gcam improvements, the results are far from stellar as the image lacks a little bit on fine detail, maybe due not good quality optics.
Of course, the front camera has difficulties in medium - low light but I think not more or less than many other devices.
This gcam version is specifically suited for low light conditions.

I'm able to open the wide angle camera in pro mode only. Is this the only way to open it?
No, you have to slide between zoom button to switch between cameras, sliding right to 0.6x will take you to the wide angle camera
Wide angle
Or you can pinch in to get to wide angle.

Amazing!
Just zoom into that seagul ? it's too detailed
Lol XDA just reduced the quality.... But trust me... The camera quality is the best in this segment.... No phone can match... I mean realme XT is nearer but still I love natural colours which realme doesn't give... So for me redmi note 8 pro is better

Overall very happy with camera.

Wide angle is useful

im talking about something shouldnt even happen in 5 years old phones with camera
i had my meizu pro 5 with 20 mb and till recently its camera is awesome in details and its zoom was astonishing
even with older phones from lenovo didnt produce such weird textures or that noise on pictures
you bought the wrong phone for photography, it's because of mediatek sensor processing, it can't par with 2019 best lenses
and with that sensor, even video recording I've seen on rn8 pro, it's a bit better than my.. 2015 redmi note 2, only a bit better..
you could try gcam, but it will never work 100%
my gf's 2 years 90€ redmi 5 gcam does a lot better job at photography on day and night.

Oh wow - that blurryness showcases either bad skills (no offense) or an issue with exposure - it should ever have a blurryness on daillight with OIS.
Lackluster- quite lackluster - I've seen better pictures with a Mi A2 Lite and GCam (no OIS) and both Mi 9T Stock camera.

Horrible imagines, total lack of sharpness due to large sensor and aperture
The camera is a big shame!!! I'm soooo disappointed by the rear camera. Contrast and so on seems to be ok, but all pictures with the rear camera lack complete sharpness, it's awful. Compared to both the Nexus 5x and the Samsung Galaxy s9, which both only have 12mpx, the quality when zooming is soooo much worse on the mi10. Also photos in low light were better and brighter with the older two phones. Only when turning night mode on they get brighter but still. So the mi10 camera is unusable for me due to the horrible sharpness. Probably that's what comes from the huge aperture and sensor size, you only get a tiny area which is sharp on a photo, while 90% of the image is just blurry ****. Honestly if Xiaomi Cannot fix this issue soon I'll sell that dumb phone, it makes me more than mad on such an expensive phone!!! Also probably the low light imagines are not so good due to the high megapixel. Just very embarassing for Xiaomi to put a camera capable of making photos which are 90% blurry and complete inability to zoom in the picture as it just looks blurry when zooming only a little, each 12 Mox shooter has a much better sharpness when zoomed in the final picture compared to this phone. Even the front camera takes sharper pictures!!!!!!!
Plus there's the issue that photos often get only taken in 0.7mpx. I don't know if that's an issue of xiaomi or of Google photos, usually resizing to 16mpx but sometimes 0.7mpx. But might also be that photos are sometimes only taken in 0.7mpx of this stupid phone. And no the quality when zoomed in the final picture is equally worse in the full 25(27) and even 108mpx photos!!!
