Nexus 6p for AXON - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I have a simple question (but im struggling).. I have a Nexus 6p 32GB and im happy with it, the only contra side is that is limited with 32GB.. If i sell this phone and buy a AXON 7 ZTE will it be a good move... or....
Thanks for your advice.

Wait
My advice, wait. Things are changing fast and 6p is great phone.

Next year will be the move to 4k. As you are already on a 6P which has QHD and all and is a great phone, wait until next year, only 3-5 more months and you'll be in for a hefty upgrade.

I sold my 64gb Nexus 6P back when the Axon 7 was first announced (a month, or so, before the release). I've had it now just over 2 months, while I LOVE it... I miss some things on the 6P.
Axon 7 pros -
Speakers - Yes, these are the BEST sounding smartphone speakers I've ever heard! Beats any HTC offering as well and is as lound as, or louder than my laptop speakers.
Better battery - I can go 2 full days and occasionally 2.5-3 days in extreme cases, without kicking on any battery saver - and that's with 4hrs of SOT
The skin isn't that bad - It's not pure Android, but it's not overly bloated
Very smooth
Nexus 6P pros:
Nougat 7 (faster upgrades)
Pure Android
Fingerprint sensor is more reliable
The actual Android lockscreen and notifications on the lockscreen (Axon 7 "bell" is horrible)
The whole reason, well one of the reasons, I wanted the Axon 7 over the 6P may not be reason's anybody else did?
1) Obvious reason, the speakers... Since my first HTC One M7 with stereo speakers, these are a must for me
2) Not as much development.. Enough to keep me satisfied, not too many to occupy my every waking second thinking I must flash every ROM available! When I had my 6P, I probably flashed a different ROM every other day, sometimes two or three a day fro a couple weeks when new updates/features came out. Slower development bothers me, but keeps my OCD in check! I have my custom font and emoji's and a couple themed apps, that's all I really need. I have the ability to install Xposed, but don't need to yet.
My $.02 worth of advice? If you are a flasher, you won't like the Axon 7. If you want better speakers and better battery life and can handle slower updates, the Axon 7 is a good buy for $400. But, we are at the end cycle of several phone models, with new ones coming out in the next few months. The 6P isn't a dinosaur by any means and is still very relevant and will be for another couple years. So unless you just have to have the newest toys, the 6P will do you just fine. If you like having new toys, the 6P is still bringing decent money on the used market and it's a good time to sell.

Nice explanation.. Thanks for the help, i think i will stay @Nexus 6p and buy end 2017 a new phone.

What phone will you go to next?

The Pure is an awesome phone. It has been my favorite and could be perfect with a bit better battery life.
Time marches on and I can't say I am enthused with the new Moto line coming out. Also not sure about Lenovo.
It just doesn't feel right that Moto is no longer American.
So what are you folks planning on going to next?
I would love a stripped down Sony or HTC. Not keen on Samsung. Apple, only if they offer a model with stock Android[emoji13].
Thoughts?

Samsung. Maybe de 7 Edge, great specs and battery life, Lately Samsung improves a lot system updates ( and i will buy unlocked)
Stock Android is great, but sometimes lack from cool features like theming, gestures etc. HTC m10 is option, but i dont know.
Other options are OnePlus 3 and the AXON.
Most probably a Nexus device.
Im waiting for a new nexus. 1+3 is good but not kicking my ass do a sold them after two Weeks and back to moto
halo moto \m/
Likely the smaller of the two new Nexus devices, provided the battery life/build material is comparable to the larger alternative. This also hinges on whether or not it'll work on all carriers, which I assume it will.
I have my eye on the Axon 7 but I been reading there is alot of bugs with it so far.... I almost pulled the trigger on a nexus 6p .

Definitely a Nexus. Probably in a year or two, I'm pretty good with my phone. Now if Lenovo doesn't upgrade this sucker to Android N then I might ditch it and switch early to the HTC-made Nexus Sailfish. But, I can't see the future so, who knows.
I'm thinking Nexus but I plan to stick with the Pure for at least another year or so. I might even go for another Moto phone. My main requirements will be that it has to be unlocked and no bloat (I actually like the few bashed on features the MXPE has). At the moment the Nexus and Moto lines meet this requirement. Only time will tell.

I also had an interest in the Axon 7 but as you say there are reports of bugs. I read one owner had issues with his Axon using 19% idle over night. Doesn't work with android pay either at the moment. Thankfully supplies are tight so no temptation to buy one in UK.
I have been considering a Samsung gs7 edge now price has eased. Just can't pluck up the courage to buy one. The glass back puts me off. Can't get enthusiastic about the new Moto Z phones and don't currently appeal. The new nexus phones when they are released may be worth consideration but I've never had any luck with HTC phones in the past.
So I'm stuck with the X Style which is no great hardship! Battery generally lasts the day, the display is nice and bright when required, the speakers are very good and it just works day in day out. The one thing I do wish though is that it was 5.2" as it's just a little cumbersome to use one handed. But the big display is good for Web browsing and vids.
So I'll either stick with the X STYLE or at some point get a Samsung GS 7 Edge, but will see what the new Nexus phones are like too when released.
I'll probably pick up a 6p once the new Nexuses are out and people start flooding Swappa.
Le Max 2, Axon 7, 1+3 or a Nexus device (either the 6P or 2016 5" if it has a 821 and is under 400)
From the pick at the moment probably the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe, but not till I see how it fares in real reviews.
The new moto phones are a big step back from the pure for me.
maybe the moto z more likely the note 7 if it gets root pretty quick.
my pure seems to be developing issues as it nears the warranty date actually i think it just past that on the 18th of july and i have been having issues now for about a week...
And i have a used note 3 that still works great... has better battery life than the pure too...
New smaller Nexus. I want faster updates and more ROMs to choose from.
I honestly have no idea. I'm not enthusiastic about any of the new phones. Seems almost every manufacturer is reverting from a 5.7" screen to 5.5" which is a deal breaker for me. Also need root and I'm on Verizon which cuts my current, and future options down to just my current x pure, or a semi-rooted S7.

I am in the same boat brother lol, I have my Moto X pure for now ... the Edge body im not a fan but the camera is what i love on it. Prices are almost at 500 bucks here in usa for them so i might wait a bit more.
Honestly... I might go back to my Moto G 2015, this phone is great except the battery life. Going from 5+ hours of SOT per day to barely 3.5 is tough. Maybe a G4 or even wait for the next Nexus devices.

Will you move to Nexus 2016 soon after its launch?

This poll is to determine and estimate how much the new nexus (2016) is anticipated in nexus 6 community.
Used to be YES! But not if the front speakers are gone. Sticking with n6.... Looking at ZTE axon 7 as bootloader is unlocked and twrp plus good hw and cheaper price, good speakers seems worth a better look.

I see moving to a 5.5" screen as a downgrade.
After spending the price of two laptops on my N6 (£549) I expect it to last more than a couple of years. I like new toys, but there's a limit imposed by common sense. Newer processors may give an infinitesimal improvement in performance, which no doubt can be measured by benchmarks, but the N6 is plenty fast enough for me. The screen may not be the best around these days, but every time I watch a video I think "Wow, this is an amazing quality picture", so again, good enough for me.
No point in squandering resources, is there...?

I'll stay with Nexus 6, it's the best phone I ever had, even if it's not my daily phone because it's too big, it's really wonderfull with big screen, nice resolution (ready for carboards), enought RAM, 25Go is enought for me, nice photos/videos, good stereo sound with front speakers, fast charge... :good: I still love it
The Nexus Marlin and Sailfish will indeed not be true Nexus devices. It has been announced that Google is rebranding the Nexus brand, rumored at the moment to just be called "G"; and it will not feature a stock version of android, rather there will be G-only features built into the ROM. No word of bootloader yet.

If there is no Nexus device then maybe I will get the One Plus 3

Me too, not going to happen as long as there are decent 6" or bigger phones available. It's a pain trying to type messages or emails on such a small screen.
I really want a 64 bit mobile to develop my rom, but the 6P might break if I think about it too hard. So I'll check the new ones, but if they are too expensive here in Europe, and the early reviews are negative, then I'll just keep my N6.
I still love my N6 but I cracked the screen a bit in the corner.
I also want to finally make the move to Project Fi so I'm hoping for a bundle deal.
If what is in the leaks is true. I rather buy note 7. Back design too ugly for me.
There are a lot of reasons why people buy a Nexus device. The 2 most common reasons I always see is either the simplicity of the device (dare I say, bare bones of what a phone should do/have) and stock skin of Android or on the other side, the complex and customisable options that is possible with the fact that Nexus devices are easy to tinker with combined with the support of the developer community who are constantly providing support for devices for years even after they reach their sell by date(shoutout to all the devs btw )
Combined with this I guess its safe to stay for the most advanced users and beginners alike it all depends on if they're specific needs are still being met for them to stay with Nexus 6 or any other device for that matter and if not then it's time to upgrade.
Personally I will probably stick with Nexus 6 for as long as it lasts me or if a phone gets released with everything the Nexus 6 is and hopefully more ( Preferably a phone such as the Xperia Z5 Ultra , if Sony ever release it )
The price is too high for me. No front facing speakers, "just" a 5.5 Inch screen etc etc. For the moment my N6 is fast and stable enough to use it for the best part of the next year as well.
Bottom line, I would rather buy a OnePlus 3, than a "New Nexus" at this point.
Did they unviel it yet? I have my credit card ready. But i love my n6 to much lol

I've grown to the size of my phone and cant seem myself owning anything smaller.
Since first buying the Nexus 6 a couple years ago or so I've had a Moto X Pure, Huawei Mate 7, OnePlus 3, and now I'm back to the Nexus 6. This phone just has everything I want in a phone. 6 inch screen (which for me is the perfect size), simple, clean design, great development, stereo speakers, and good battery life. No point in updating to a newer phone for minimal gains in speed at the cost of at least a couple of the N6's great features.
More than likely I'm going to upgrade. My N6 will be paid off in October.
I'm ready for a smaller form factor, unless they completely **** it up and the design is completely underwhelming, I will be getting one, I'm not gonna get it on launch day like the Shamu though , gonna take my sweet time waiting for reviews to make a final decision, there is a chance I will be sticking with this device for another cycle, we'll see

Me too, I wish they would make another Nexus with a screen this size! They did it once and never again! I LOVE my N6!
I'll be keeping my N6 or getting the One Plus 3 if what I have heard and read about the new devices is true. I just love my N6, has everything I've ever wanted (minus a removable SD and/or battery which I really don't miss). Got my son a OP3 and it is really nice, I really liked my OP1. OnePlus is as close to a Nexus as you can get and unlike recent Nexus they are still inexpensive.
Nexus 6

Is N6P worth it in today's time.?

Hello there,
I am thinking of purchasing a new Nexus 6P. I just want a phone with a bigger screen, great camera and sound and especially a great development support that can last for around the next 4 years..
Can anyone help me in knowing the battery life and the overall experience of using a Nexus 6P..
Price is USD 460 (Brand new)
Would be of great help..!
Thanks,
A fellow Android user.
PS - My main reason of considering a N6P is a great community support.
If you wish, you can recommend me any phone running Pure Android , that would be worth the purchase.

It is a great phone, but I though I've heard that a new 6P could be had for around $350 or so. $460 is very close to what it was at launch. but even still at what the Pixel and they new S8 and G6 will cost, that will still be a a very good price comparatively speaking. I personally wouldn't pay more then say $350-$400 for one now at almost 18 months old.
Worth it

I just bought a used Nexus 6p to replace a failing Moto X Pure Edition (2015) and I am extremely pleased with it so far. For longevity it's very hard to tell when you're talking about 4 years out but there is very little out there with the pure experience that is going to match the support the 6p will have. Battery life has been acceptable though not amazing. Charges very fast so that helps offset. Standby time has been excellent though screen on time is what really drains it. The camera takes great photos though the HDR+ processing is slower than I thought it would be (as is processing of the Blur effect when used).
The experience has been the best of any phone I've used. Everything is snappy and I don't get occasionaly slowdowns I used to get on every other phone I've used (Moto X, Note 4, HTC One, G2, S4). It's a bit heavier than I like and I keep a case on it because it is a bit slick with nothing on it but otherwise comfortable. I love finally having a phone with a fingerprint sensor and this one works great. I never have issues with it. Connectivity has been great with Wifi, 4G, bluetooth and GPS. No issues with any. Speakers are very good. Very similar quality to my Moto X Pure. Nice and loud and front facing.
I wish the camera sensor was a 16:9 ratio since I prefer taking all my photos that way. When you crop down to 16:9 on the 6p you're down to 8.3Mp which is a bit low for preserving detail. If you prefer 4:3 you won't have any complaints.
I run mine stock, rooted with google assistant enabled and my only complaint is that the stock launcher won't let you change the home screen grid size. I normally use Nova Launcher but I'm liking using the new icon quick shortcuts in Nougat (similar to the force touch actions on the iphone). Nova does this also but for some reason it doesn't work on the 6p (might have something to do with changing the model to a Pixel to enable google assistant).
By the way, I picked mine up used for $310 (64Gb).
read about the battery and boot loop issues. the 6p has issues. either the batteries are sub-par or there are software issues. many people have significant problems. hauwei will repair, but we have no real idea what is wrong and if there
if a real fix coming in the future.
i will be receiving a free placement from google--my phone was purchased from google. i will buy extra batteries planning on getting 6 to 12 months on a battery. if i was buying new now, i am not sure what i would do. i personally loved my 6p when it was working well. now that is shuts off early without warning, it is problematic.
I love my 6P but if I could do it over I would probably spend the money on a different phone. I feel like the 6P is a time bomb with the boot loop of death and battery issues. Some people can't even get replacements for their RMA'd phones since the 6P is no longer being made or they are getting back badly dinged up ones that show significant signs of use and abuse. There are serious issues with this phone. Google blames the hardware and Huawei blames Google. If you get 4 years out of one of these it will probably be a miracle.

My experience on moving on my Nexus 6.

Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing fine. Since I recently had the privilege to upgrade my Nexus 6 to One Plus 3T, I thought I should share my experience for all those thinking about the doing same. However, there is a plot twist as you read through the account. I got the One Plus 3T 128GB in used condition for about 350$ without the DASH charger (I was given a 4 amp OPPO VOOC charger which didn't turned out to be compatible with One Plus's DASH charge technology as claimed by the seller). Anyways, on my way home I started playing around with my new device and the first thing that got me depressed about my decision was this major screen downgrade, like literally it felt so unpleasant to my eyes. Secondly, I don't know if I'm being to choosy here but I could clearly see the difference between the drastic resolution shift from Nexus's Quad HD panel to One Plus's 1080p screen while watching videos on YouTube. As I reached home I played some songs and oh well the sound loudness couldn't compete with Nexus's front firing Stereo speakers even though the sound quality was fine. The One Plus's whooping 6 gigs of RAM did bring about great performance but one could barely notice the difference coming a Nexus device (Stock Android). Another minor point and kind of strange thing was that I was constantly missing the on screen buttons so bad, I tried turning on this option on my One Plus but I was only able to do so at the cost of giving another inch or so of the already small screen size hence I decided to keep it off. The best thing I liked about One Plus was it's fingerprint scanner, blazingly fast and a welcoming feature which the Nexus 6 had unfortunately missed. The second best thing has to be it's build quality, compact and slim size (It's way lighter then Nexus 6, you could clearly feel the difference). The camera was pretty solid too but I rarely used it so can't say much about it. The battery timing was great too (I didn't had much apps installed though). After using the device for about 4-5 hours I had made the decision... YES, I WANTED TO GO BACK TO MY NEXUS 6 SO BAD! The lack of those few extra inches and stereo speakers were really enough to make me realize that I shouldn't have made this upgrade, primarily because features like fingerprint scanner and good camera aren't really something I would find myself using often. Anyways, I went back to the seller and asked if we could work something out about this situation, he took the device back for 300$ (YES, I did make a compromise for my beloved Nexus ) and got my Nexus back from my dad as he was using it, installed latest version of Pure Nexus ( It's working great, try it out people) and everything was back to normal. It felt great. Lastly, trust me that One Plus is a great device, it's just my opinion on upgrading to it from Nexus 6, for someone who just wants to buy it, trust me it's worth your money, and I really like One Plus as a company too. This post is just for those people who don't have a good budget and want to do an upgrade, I highly suggest not to because you'll really end up missing your Nexus 6. It's a great device, trust me you only realize this once you're away from it. It's like I'm addicted to it. You can't get the same media experience on any other device. Also, we'll be soon seeing some Android Oreo development for the Nexus 6 Squad ( I can't really wait , waiting for a stable release even though there's one out there already). However, there are a few things that Nexus 6 really lacks such as a good front camera, fingerprint scanner, and USB type C yet it still makes a great device overall. Peace. If you liked this post, kindly give a thumbs up.
Good post, and i only have a regret about the front cam.
I would add to thid little mother****er a FM radio. But, it's a very personal thing.

How did you read that no paragraph, no comma, no full stop
I upgraded to a s7 only to regret it the screen, speakers and ROM development can not be matched by any other phone I don't use the camera or finger print scanner much so I ended up selling the s7 and buying 2 broken nexus 6 swaped parts around now I have 1 mint phone and a parts nexus 6 with amazing ROM development I don't see this slowing down anytime soon I plan on running this phone till I can find an equivalent replacement until then I am more then happy
I won't be doing it immediately, but I think I'll be shooting for the Pixel 2 XL late next year. Unlike a lot of people, I can live in most cases without the headphone jack, and can use the dongle the rest of time. Besides, I'm still a bit of a luddite. Even though I have multiple smartphones and my music in the cloud, I still keep a 16GB MP3 player around as a backup.
@skbhere: I didn't read your post, because you didn't break it up into concrete sentences and paragraphs. While what you want to say is important, how you present the information for others to see is just as important. By not using sentences and paragraphs, what you wanted to say got lost because most people won't bother trying to read it.
Yeah.. i preorder 2xl.. but for the $$$ and no reward for preorder.. stupid google home thing i will never use...im going to cancel and wait for development to happen... But a $1k device might be slow .. also rumors OnePlus is releasing another device .. maybe with larger screen??.. im gonna wait

I couldn't agree more. I for a minute had a lgv20. Its size wasnt an issue but the UI. So I sent it back. Through a snafu with Verizon I ended up with a free Droid Turbo and Its been my back up phone for the times my beloved Nexus 6 has been down with a broken screen. Though its as close to the N6 within. It was still not even close. I now have a Verizon bought( unrooted as I didn't do my homework and made assumptions regarding its ability to be rooted) Pixle XL and although its much quicker and its screen is a bit nicer. I still have my Nexus 6 at home ready to go. I use the Pixle as my daily and it goes with me whenever I leave home. However the minute I walk in the door in the evenings I will grab my Nexus and use it for all of my media, fidlefarting around on the web and messing with anyone foolish enough to join my wifi. The screen size , forward facing stereo speakers and ability to run countless roms ( including my favorite dirty Unicorns with the Kali's Nethunter) keeps my Nexus 6 fresh and usable. I will say that I wish my Nexus was as fast as the Pixle. However is slowness in comparison to the Pixle something I am willing to endure at least for the time being. I'll end with this , I too have extra parts for my Nexus 6. It's currently a phone of from 3 as I have bought broken phones from ebay to construct it with a screen from 1, a main board from another and battery from yet another( with one more battery in reserve) and I will ride this phone out till it no longer works or becomes too antiquated and slow to serve its current purposes. Its the best phone I have owned and I have owned a whole ****ton of different phones going all the way back to the OG Driod.
I moved on from my Nexus 6 as my DD quite a while ago, only because it was too big to comfortably carry with me (it didn't fit in my purse ) But I still use it all the time at home, none of my other devices come close to it for media and that big beautiful screen. On Validus Oreo now, I've been running a GZR ROM on it since the day I got it, in Dec 2014. Love my shamu <3

Is Angler still worth in 2018?

Hi all. I'm looking at a used 64gb N6P (slightly used for almost 1yr) ONLY FOR $170. original complete package. No bootloop issues (YET)
Well, I'm open for suggestions. I will use the phone as my daily driver. I'm also into rooting & custom ROMS. As for my observation, angler devs will still hold up the device for years. :fingers-crossed:
BTW, I'm coming from 32gb N6 shamu.
What do you think guys? Is it a good upgrade? Or should I buy a current $200 budget phone instead?
Thank you, and sorry if this question is old.
I also had N6 32gb shamu and just bought second hand N6P angler month ago with battery issues, i replaced the batter myself and using abc rom + elemental x with dazed 6p edition 3.1 profile. Its pretty fast and when I'm at home battery is usually at %50-60. I'm not a power user but I must say i switched for the finger print scanner and i miss N6s large screen and it was event faster too in the other hand N6P has great camera compared to N6 specially selfie one is awesome + phone feels more premium with metal back. Overall I'm happy that switched and planing to use this phone at least 1 more year.
I have literally owned 10 Nexus 6P's. Every time I try to upgrade I keep wanting my 6P again. This phone is perfect AND you get the added ability of not really needing to be TOO careful with it. A replacement is $5-600 cheaper than trying to replace a newer phone. I work on cars, so being able to not care about the phone as much when using the flash light is a plus for me. Plus its fast.

The answer isn't actually simple. If you want a phone that will keep getting security updates, then an emphatic no. They are still pushing monthlies right now, but as the Android P dev preview is out and the Nexus line is no longer scheduled for any support, when the Pixel 3 drops in October, I suspect the security updates for the 6p will be dead.
So, once that happens, whatever version of most remaining updated custom ROMs are out there will likely be it. There may be the odd one who tries to kludge Android 9 onto the 6p, but when you also factor in the processor's age, it's very near EOL.
However, if you're OK with effectively staying on Oreo, for the price, it's still a good phone with a good camera. You just won't get a lot of custom ROM dev for much longer. Even in the 8 months since I was regularly using my 6p, development has dried up significantly. There are really only 3 or 4 options other than keeping it stock and doing my own customization.
I recently used an Xperia XZ Premium for about 8 months and had so many hardware failures, that I finally gave up and came back to my 6p. Aside from the noticeable performance difference with the 810 processor and a GB less of RAM, I'm actually happier using the 6p because it's better than the Xperia Xperience ever was, but that's personal preference. All I really do is use the factory image, TWRP, Magisk and then install Viper, SE Linux control and Pixel mods and the phone works the way I want.
I suspect I'll try to suck another 4 months out of the 6p then buy a Pixel 3. It'll be pricy, but stock Android, fast regular updates and a killer camera are all important to me.

Thank you for the response. Right, I think I can keep my shamu for a while. Maybe I'll wait for the budget pixel 3. :fingers-crossed:
Guys im wondering the same thing. I actually just got a Nexus 6P 64gb for less than 200$. I have no battery issues whatsoever but i am worried about the bootloop issues. Do you guys think i should switch phones( I still can) because of that potential issue or is the issue isolated? I mean literally every G4 eventually gets bootloop, is the Nexus 6P the same?

I have literally owned 10 Nexus 6P's. Every time I try to upgrade I keep wanting my 6P again. This phone is perfect AND you get the added ability of not really needing to be TOO careful with it. A replacement is $5-600 cheaper than trying to replace a newer phone. I work on cars, so being able to not care about the phone as much when using the flash light is a plus for me. Plus its fast.

Did any of those 6P's get the bootloop problem? And for how long have you tested a Nexus 6P?
