Oh, that's strange. Maybe it depends on the ROM, I'm using the latest China Stable 8 ROM. Also, stating the obvious, check the Wallpaper Carousel settings and permissions to make sure it's enabled, categories selected, and refreshing at the correct intervals and over data/wifi-only as required. Maybe also try clearing the app data/cache and starting again.

Nope I tried everything! Actually I researched it before, it works on china stable ROM.. Not on my Indian Version..
BTW, is china ROM really different from the global miui 8.0.2.0 ??

Ok, that would explain it.
I never actually tried the global rom. I'm new to miui and this is my first Xiaomi phone so I was planning to flash the global rom after unlocking it but thought I would give the China rom a try first. I researched a lot too and read that the global rom tends to have more issues, performs a little worse, and updates are slower. Makes sense as it's a phone meant for China market mostly so I imagine the majority of their resources go to the China rom.
From what I have read, the global rom has more languages installed, has the Google services integrated, and the China specific bits removed.
I am staying on the China rom though as it allows you to change to English, it was easy installing all the Google services, it works beautifully with no big issues so far, all of the 3rd party Chinese apps can be uninstalled, and battery life is great. Minor points to note:
- Miui app store still in Chinese
- Theme store still in Chinese
- Needed to manually change some Google services permissions to work correctly but easy enough
I'm happy with it and now I don't need to mess around with unlocking the bootloader.
If it's not too much inconvenience for you maybe give the China rom a try.

i received my SGS yesturday, never used or really looked at the android platform before as ive been on WM on my Xperia x1 for the last 18months, bloody contracts!
i would love someone to explain how the ROMs, UIs etc work on android, seems different from my WM device where i was using custom roms the whole time.
Can you change the UI without flashing etc, so still been warranty intact and that?
So my SGS has samsungs UI? what does android default look like? ive had a little look around but not found much
thanks in advance
EDIT:
found that you can change the launcher via market apps
cant find any vids etc on the latests versions on youtube, guess ill download and see. Do i need another app to switch back to samsung default (touchwiz?)
LauncherPro Beta 0.6.7 latest everyone has?

I posted a video on youtube running Launcher Pro, the latest version will be the one you download from the market. There's another really good launcher called ADW launcher. (they are both free)

If you set another home app as the default you'll need to go to Settings > Applications > Manage Apps > (whichever home app it is) > Clear defaults. Next time you hit the home button you'll get asked which you want to use.
Have fun!
I use "Home switcher" from the Market. Pretty handy...
I installed wildpuzzle and its not picking up my location correctly. On maps it says I'm several hundred miles from where i actually am and the clock/weather widget doesn't find me at all. If I turn on GPS maps can find me but the weather widget still can't. Is there a solution to this?

first of all, why did you create a new thread? if you used the search function or read through a few pages of the wildpuzzle rom thread, you would already know, like other users, that there is still this little problem. danne jo however i think has fixed part of the issue in the new version.
sorry, i did search but obviously not with the right words and also I have the latest version.

You lousy, miserable, jobsworth ****. The poor bastard was asking for help.
For those having issues with triangulation / location finding: DanneJo figured out last night on IRC that it is because the app NetworkProviderService.apk was removed.
You can extract it from 8.0.8 (it is in system/app) and add it to the 8.0.10 zip file, then reflash. I can confirm this works fine.

Hello for the past weeks i tried to install many roms some dont start other do. I like that people share the roms they make. The wildpuzzle rom would be perfect but the location problem is still not fixed(also the fix as discribed here is not working). The openfire rom and the CyanogenMod are very good but as far as I can see its not possible to make videos with the wildfire with those roms installed. So maybe some one can advise me.......
I have installed WildPuzzle 7 (the previous version) along with the Wildpuzzle V7 overclock kernel and that seems to do pretty much everything wildpuzzle 8 does except without some new apps. The advantage is the location works and so does the contacts (picks up 07 and 44 numbers as the same person). I haven't seen any major differences between the two versions other than that.
Hi,
I don't know if someone else found this problem. I made a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=RS9j4uiTDaE. It's also in FullHD.
And wrote a post in my blog in my native language, spanish: http://retreteinformatico.blogspot.com/2012/01/touchwiz-40-y-problemas-con-la.html
The video description is english. I'll also explain the problem here:
Simply put, TouchWiz does not save the icons in the place where I leave them. At first I organized all of them in two screens: one with folders and the other with most frequently used icons. After doing a power on-off cycle the icons are all scattered without alphabetical order in three screens instead of two. The folders maintain their ordering and screen. An icon (AllShare) is put between two folders and the other icons are divided in two screens, disordered, not alphabetical.
In the video you'll see first what I found after the icon position screwing. Then I get three or four apps out of their folder (Google Talk, Gmail, Maps, Market) and put them with the rest of the icons and the AllShare app is put with the rest, out of the screen with the folders. Then I power off the phone and turn it on again to find that GTalk, Maps, Market and AllShare are out of their place.
After that, I put the icons more or less where I want to put them (in two screens) and I do again a power cycle to show how did TouchWiz screw my icon organization.
I'm using Android 2.3.4 XWIK4 with baseband XXKI1.
If someone is able to reproduce the problem just tell it. Maybe touchwizh has problems if you put in folders the Samsung apps (Hubs and more), I don't know, but it's a big problem.
Folder/Icon rearrangement is a known problem with TouchWiz since day 1 when SGS2 got released.
Best way to get around is to use AppSorter and sort your App Drawer everytime you create a folder.
Posting problems about 2.3.4 when everyone else is on 2.3.6 = VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS!
Update your phone and test it and give feedback!
Hmmm, I didn't know. How comes that Samsung hasn't fixed this in 8 monts?
This is ludicrous.

Love the name of your blog: informatic toilet (retrete informatico) ahahah
Anyway: They suck on fixing bugs.. if we users and devs cant fix'em we are screwed lol
Also, why any reviewer spoted this problem? Add to this the Fujitsu camera module problem and you get the idea that QA on Samsung is really poor. Just remember the GPS problem on Samsung Galaxy S1.

My icons are kept in their folders. The problem is the icons that are out of their folders. I'm using original Android, no beta nor custom ROMs.

I read your first post about upgrading to 2.3.6. Well, if I just use the default Samsung support, I'm stuck to 2.3.4, as my phone is Austrian version and Samsung didn't release nothing newer than 2.3.4 for those phones.
So Samsung sucks big as a company and client support.
Of course if I start to root the phone and installing custom ROMs the problem would disappear, but flashing your phone and breaking your warranty is not something the user should do for something that's supposed to work from the beginning. Different thing is if the user wants extra functionality, but this is not the case.
So, all in all, I'll wait until ICS gets released and after that if it doesn't convince me, I'll root and who know if I flash a custom ROM.
I had that trouble before where one app ended up going to the next page and kept going back there. I think simply restoring the order, going to TwLauncher in the application list and then force stopping should make it remember the order you gave it once you go back.

If I force stop TwLauncher the apps are again "out of control" :-/
I'll try to clear the cache although I'm reluctant because I'll need to recreate all folders again
I have partially solved the problem by clearing the cache of TouchWiz launcher.
Now the SIM service app keeps going back to the same place out of its folder, but I refuse to clear again the cache and organize all my apps. Maybe it's because the SIM service app is something variable. If I kill touchwiz process that app appears inside it's folder (once the cache corruption is solved), but if I turn off the phone and turn on again, the SIM app appears out of the folder.
This is crap.
Well, know what? I've installed some applications at one time, all from Samsung Apps, and after rebooting the phone all my folders are empty and the apps inside them are all spread across 6 screens instead the 2 screens I managed to sort. The apps and folders have lost the position I assigned to them.
Now I have a bunch of icons in random order and I don't want to organize again 6x8 = 48 icons plus the home screens which would turn to default state after clearing the cache of the touchwiz manager.
It's very annoying and unusable. I want to throw the phone through the window.
What I can't understand is how this bug has been happening since launch date and Samsung hasn't been able to solve it. My only hope is the ICS update and I don't have much confidence on it. Probably I'll have to flash a custom ROM and then try to get some Samsung software on it.
The free games offer is very good
PS: Well, maybe it has some explanation->Samsung's poor software development quality assurance. Camera's firmware also suffer from it.

With all due respect, and not aiming to sound rood to you, with that mentality (it should work fine out of the box and I don't care if somewhere else there's a newer version...) you shouldn't be posting on XDA because people we'll obviously tell you to upgrade to the latest version, whether it's from a different operator/country (legit) or simply a leak.
You can't expect people here to act like the only way to use the phone is by following what Samsung/your operator is dictating you. We all know and have long ago agreed that operators and manufacturers are lazy when it comes to QA, and that's why a place like XDA exists

The camera firmware bug affects to all people, doesn't matter if you have stock Android or custom ROM. So we're all in the same bag. And this is Galaxy S II General forum, so I post this here because norms allow it.
Anyways, thanks for your reading.
Actually clearing the cache helped! Ever since I updated to 2.3.6 I have had this problem but after clearing the cache it has been resolved. But initially after the update the folders did remember for a couple of days after which the problem started for me. But for now clearing the cache worked well.

I don't know if you are on MM yet but I noticed that there is a thing under App's (on MM) in settings where you can set what apps draw over e.g.. facebook chat bubbles. I think if you enable your apps that you want notifying you on lock-screen to draw over mode then it may show on lock-screen. Its working so far for my weather updates from google app... I could be entirely wrong and I am using a fairly wonky build of MM but I just thought I would offer my insight Best of luck bud.

I am not on marshmallow as yet waiting for the Ota
I'm sure MM will fix that for you bud!
I do know the struggle, waiting on OTA's for us in New Zealand is painful. On top of the fact that before I went MM I wasn't getting notifications at all, calls missed cause it wasn't bringing the call screen up...all sorts of havoc.
Worst comes to worst you could try factory restore, then do the theme thing that other guy mentioned. You should technically have a default, it's weird you are missing it.

Hi all!
I recently received my Z2 Pro (128gb) from Coolicool the other day and I though I would let you know of my experience.
It came with the 'international firmware' on it preventing the use of OTA and Uhealth so like many others I proceeded to flash it with stock Chinese firmware.
Following this guide - ahh...as a new user it seems I can't yet post links. But I would like to thank m_atze for his time in writing it!
METHOD 2!!
At first I kept getting saraha errors but moving the firmware to a short folder on my laptops main drive solved this error (ie. c:\\zuk\.....)
Flashing went ahead without a single problem
Changed the language to english and proceeded to uninstall chinese apps and install the ones I wanted.
There was then the latest OTA which didn't require a VPN
Other than there being a few mis-translations the phone seems very fast and stable (I am coming from a Galaxy S4)
A day of standard use from me left me with over 50% battery compared to the <10% I would have from the i9505
Overall very happy with my purchase and looking forward to an official full english android 7 firmware release!
I do seem to be having issues with push notifications and widget updates. I'm sure that will be fixed soon enough.

kinda works better now. Chrome seems to force close after opening, only once though and then it works fine.
