Stay, Leave or Give it a try? - Sprint Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Sooooo, with the news of a potential 2nd recall on the Note 7.
I created a poll to determine if we either Stay: with our current replacement phone, Leave: our current beloved phone for IPhone or other Android device, OR Give it a try: Wait for a new "Replacement"

Staying with replacement note 7

staying

I'm so glad I got rid of this epic failure of a phone! Unfortunately I decided to keep my wife's Note 7 so I now have to go through the whole [email protected] return process all over again..

I'm jumping ship. I can't keep going from device to device. I tinker way too damn much.
I need a device that I can root, hack hotspot and live with. I'll find it somewhere.
Sprint choices are slim.

Still have my original Note 7 (not replaced). Staying with it for now til I figure out what I want. Going to press Sprint hard to allow me to upgrade once a comperable phone comes out. Been with them for 17 years, so if they wont let me upgrade theyre losing a long time customer. Probably going to get an S7e, just really pissed about it.

wait until Oct 20 when the Google Pixel is out. I saw rumors it might work on Sprint network :good:

Went back to my Note 5. Returned Note 7 at corporate store already. The return actually went pretty smooth.

From what I hear there won't be a replacement. If there was I would keep my replacement one till they fixed the problem even if it was 2-3 months down the road. If I thought they wouldn't send a kill switch down and would actually support the phone with software upgrades I wouldn't even care and keep this one, but I have no use for a phone I can't get accessories or support for.

'my phone is running fine'.......I'm sure the one's that caught fire were running fine up to that point too. Just something to think about.

stay.
if there is no replacement. i'll wait until the Note 8 releases then walk in like "this is on recall, right?" and hand them my 7.

I have a pixel c and after playing with it for a while I don't know if I would go the pixel route for a phone or not. Spec wise it's great and it works fairly well but it's just boring. It's neat but it isn't even in the same league as the N7. The phone could be better or it could be the same. Who knows?
I did see the pixel was being built by hTC though and I decided a long time ago that I didn't like the direction HTC was headed as a company and stopped buying their products.

So I had the first note 7 that got recalled I bought offline from someone, not directly thru sprint. Not one Sprint store would exchange it for the revised version before so I had to call telesales with sprint and they mailed me a replacement. Well now after 4 days of having it, they made the 2nd recall. Will a Corp sprint store take my replacement phone back for a refund or exchange for another phone? Or am I stuck with the revised note 7? I'm not having any problems with mine but I'm sure this phone isn't going to get anymore software updates or support since the recall

They should exchange your phone or refund.

To those of you who choose to keep the phone, realize that you'll be the only one liable for any damages now that the phone has been recalled - even if it causes your house to burn down with your family inside.
Even worse, if you ignore the warnings and your phone burns someone else's house down, they'll also have nobody to blame (and sue) but you.

What refund amount would I be getting? I got a old phone I could use. I don't need another expensive phone at the moment.

have you heard any new cases? because there is no way everyone has turned in their phones.

I just returned mine. Do you suppose to see the credit in your account right away or suppose to take 2-3 billing cycles?

Note 7 v2 being investigated for a possible recall on the new V2 Note7

This is so sad as soon as T-mobile let me take this this back I'm going to return my (Replaced v2 Note7) for my money back and maybe buy a used s7 edge til the Note8.
Sprint and AT&T already is letting customers return the newly replaced v2 Note7 for a full refund.
http://www.theverge.com/2016/10/7/13196456/sprint-galaxy-note-7-replacement-exchange
http://bgr.com/2016/10/07/galaxy-note-7-exchange-refund-sprint-t-mobile-att-verizon/
Sprint
Sprint was the first carrier to announce unconditional replacements for any customers with a Note 7. “If a Sprint customer with a replacement Note 7 has any concerns regarding their device, we will exchange it for any other device at any Sprint retail store during the investigation window,” a Sprint representative told Recode.
The return policy will presumably get customers the full retail price of the phone towards another device, and given the big sticker price on a Note 7, customers should be able to pick up just about any other smartphone.
T-Mobile
While T-Mobile doesn’t have a specific policy in place for Note 7 devices, the company also told Recode that customers with a Note 7 can use T-Mobile’s standard 14-day “remorse” policy to return or exchange their phone. The 14-day period starts from when customers picked up their replacement Note 7 devices, so most people should still be covered under that window.
AT&T
AT&T followed Sprint’s lead, telling The Verge that customers with a Note 7 can bring their phones into a store and exchange them for any other smartphone. There’s no specified window on how long you have to bring your device in, but given the ongoing investigation by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, it’s not likely to end any time soon.
Verizon
Verizon hasn’t fully outlined its exchange program, but it has committed to exchanging devices. In a statement, a Verizon spokesperson told BGR “for any Verizon customer concerned about the safety of their replacement Note7 smartphone, they will be able to exchange it for an alternate smartphone. We will provide additional details later today.”
T-Mobile is allowing it too.

Cool thx, I'm going to return then.
I'm going to wait and see if turns out to be a second recall. Looks like the carrier are getting jump on it maybe they know already there's going to be another recall. If they do recall it again you can forget about software updates from the carriers. Now I have to decide if I want to get the LG V20 or go back to the iPhone SE if they do a 2nd recall. Battery life on that little phone was awesome. Only phone I managed to get 1 1/2 days of usage before having to charge it. What a ride from the anticipation of receiving the device to this now. At least I got 2 256gb memory cards out of this ordeal.
ATT may stop selling the Note 7
http://www.technobuffalo.com/2016/1...-in-unprecedented-move-following-latest-fire/
keeps getting worse for the Note 7. If that happens most likely the rest of the carriers will follow through.
Wow this sucks, theres no other phone that I like out there right now either. Pixel looks nice but no sd cards kills it for me, the 4k will eat up the sd card, even with unlimited cloud storage. v20 is eh.... and iphone 7... well its an iphone...
Wow I just got my replacement today lol. I'm hoping it's just a one off that exploded I really like this phone and I don't want an official recall on V2.
The Pixel is the only other choice for me too but I don't think the camera on the Pixel will produce the depth that the note 7 does and I love those deep looking shots.
Just returned the Note7 v2 for a full refund. Using an LG G3 as a temp phone for now, tired of all these crap.
Welp, time to return my V2, and get another replacement Note 7, and do the 256GB SD Card trick again :'D. Then return that for a $50 restocking fee and get the Pixel.... /sarcasm
or was it?
I got mine the other. Everything is perfect, which I'm quite surprised lol. Did a back up restore and I thought it would get hot and it didn't. It wasn't even laggy while downloading and installing my apps. I seriously hope there is no recall. This phone just rocks at least for now.

Considering there have been no other reports ov v2 phones melting, I'm inclined to think it's a one-off event so I plan to keep mine until I hear differently. I really like this phone, and being a JOD customer, I don't worry about resale value.

What's funny is you got 61 post total and you finally create a thread to spread what might be false info depending on if the phone that burns up ends up being a version one note 7

It's over. Even if all three are proven to be false or another recall happens and they actually get it right, no airline will ever let you carry a note 7 again. Even if you get past security the little ***** sitting next to you will probably freak and scream you brought a bomb on the plane.
The average person thinks every phone is a iPhone or a Galaxy, you honestly think they will believe your device is safe if they find out it is a note 7?
If tmobile had any class they would give us at the very least our previous pre upgrade phone free of charge until the next note or whatever you decide to upgrade to. Instead many of us will be forced into buying a phone we don't want, wasting a Jump, etc.

I agree. I wish I could go back to August and just not buy the phone. I traded in my s7 edge and paid $180 to upgrade early. Not to mention the deposit for 2 notes. I will never see that money again. So I can get another s7 edge and be out the cash I paid to upgrade early and have to start back at payment number 1 out of 24. Feel like a rape victim from law and order.

Who's gonna keep using their Note 7?

There's absolutely no other phone I want, so I'm seriously considering not turning my phone in and continuing to use it. Plus I'm not at all happy with the compensation of a $25 credit. What I would deem fair is allowing me to "use" an S7e or ANY phone I want until a suitable replacement phone (S8, Note 8, etc.) becomes available and then turning in the loaner for the better phone. Anyway... anyone else going to chance it and just keep on using their Note 7?

I really like the phone. But, it's not worth risking my life and property for.
Just got my replacement in the mail last Thursday. It's been working just fine. Doesn't get hot or anything with heavy use. I'm going to continue using my revised note 7 till they try to force me to deactivate it
Ive had a rough time getting a replacement, so ive been looking into the pixel xl or just snag a nexus 6p for cheap. Its not worth risking to me.

I'm going to keep mine because I have not had any issues and do not want to get a new phone. This mostly due to how terrible the corporate sprint store near me is. I had to go into the store 3 times to get a replacement.
The only problem (aside from the whole catching fire thing) is I doubt they'll be working on any software updates for the Note 7 now. No Nougut for the Note 7?
Sent from my SM-N930P using Tapatalk
I really wish there were better options out right now I would switch in a heart beat. Unfortunately there's nothing even close out right now or coming out in the next few weeks. If they force us to move on I'll probably go with the v20 or 7 edge.
Sent from my SM-N930P using Tapatalk
I upgraded from a Note 3 to a Note 7. I need a Note with Micro SD card slot. I went on Ebay today and bought the best Note 4 I saw as a backup plan. I still have the original recalled Note 7 and plan to keep it for now. But like kstephens98 said, it won't get updates. And who's gonna wanna continue development here? I think I'll probably use the Note 4 until (hopefully) the Note 8 comes out. I just hope I can still get a full refund if it comes down to that. There's no other new phone out there that I would be interested in.
there is no competition.
i'll hold it until they have another fixed batch or until the Note 8.

As much as this comment exactly describes how i feel i have to return the phone. This is the hsrdest decision. Even harder than returning the first one cause last tine i knew it would be conning back. But it is now giing to be gone forever.
The main reasons are these
1) the phone cost $900. If i keep it i cannot get a new one probably ever.
2) development Will be non existent.
3) no resale value at all in the rare chance i could afford another one.
4) my husband will refuse to let me keep it even if i wanted to ignore 1-3
I was hoping for a new batch but from what I've read Samsung has officially dropped the note 7 all together.
Out the money for my case and have a gear vr which i cannot use. THIS SUCKS

Just an FYI just got this tidbit from Sprint Chat:
"Daniel M:*You can check the availability of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 with our Telesales team as the device is not available online and we are trying to get it back soon but any date is not confirmed."
was also confirmed by Telesales
If they get the note 5 back, I'd take that. I honestly don't think PHYSICALLY the note 7 is that different. On top of that, the Note 5 is honestly the best alternative. As sad as it is to say that a year old phone is the best alternative...it really, honestly is. I can deal without the USB-C, I can even deal with the lack of SD Card support(I haven't used an SD card in ages as long as there's a 64gb version). The water resistance would be nice...but after owning the S5, it was more.....convenient than anything. The "IF it drops in the water I don't have anything the worry about" feeling. I took underwater pics once just to say I did and could but....not like I'm gonna go swimming with that bad boy in my pocket lol.
Lastly, and most importantly for me, is the S-Pen. Unlike a good number of people, I actually use my....a lot. Which I find either people use it A LOT, or never lol. Anyway, if/when the Note 5 becomes available again, then I'll go back to that. But this Note 7 really was the PERFECT phone.
Water Resistance
S-Pen
AMAZIN screen to body ratio
iris scanner is way more functional than I anticipated
just the right about of edge on the screen
THE SCREEN PERIOD lol
the camera was near flawless in my opinion
everything about this phone......
If only Samsung wouldn't have rushed things. I think this phone would have beat out the iPhone anyway. Thing is, people who buy iPhones, buy iPhones. Getting them to switch is difficult because they're usually invested in apple products. iPads, Macbooks, lightning adapters, etc. People who buy Android phones are usually invested in it. Samsung people usually have Samsung Tablets, enjoy the gmail/google apps integration, enjoy the mass amount of free apps from the app store lol. This makes me want to cry lol
Went ahead and exchanged mine for an S7 Edge. It's a very nice phone too. Plus I didn't use the S-Pen like I thought I would.
In addition, Got two free gifts for my first note and my replacement note and now I've been approved for my S7 Edge. Three gifts, one purchase.
Anyone thinking of trading it in and doing the gift thing, sorry, it ended Oct 9th I believe.

ugh. I am going to call the corp guys tomorrow when I have time to ask what they are going to let me get away with. I am leaning like some others to the LG V20, but since it doesn't come out until the 28th it's outside a 15 day window. Would go without phone/phone payments and a Note 4 I pick up used for now if it meant using my upgrade later.
already sent my old phone back to them, as required to not get charged. So can't go back to that. After thinking about it, the S7 or S7E is a horrible choice since they will be replaced soon and then I'll be pissed I just got an old model.

I am going to keep using mine. There is NOTHING else that is even close to the Note 7. All of us who own the phone knows it is the sweetest one out there. I had considered the LG V20, but I would feel as though I had an inferior phone; judging by the reviews.
The reason I am here today is to root the phone to prevent Samsung from sending some type of kill update.

Verizon just told me to keep my note 7

He said they just got more info from Samsung again saying the recall is just voluntary. He said Samsung is investigating whether or not those were new or old devices that caught fire and after their investigation is complete they could say all the new note 7s are fine... He said my upgrade isn't going anywhere and I should hold onto it and wait for it to be complete. What do you think?
I think regardless at this point with my wife and I both having notes in our home it's not worth it to keep them. Coming from a rooted Note 3 on Sprint I am not impressed with this $800 purchase in the slightest and these issues are not helping their cause. At this point I'm just ready to give it back put it behind us and wait till the next greatest thing. My Note 3 still runs great and I really miss my root options.

If they knew for sure it was an issue that affected all devices I think they'd issue a mandatory recall and that agency would get involved(forgot the name).

Just received this from Verizon a few minutes ago.
I love how they conveniently leave out the $20 upgrade fee still being charged online, having to pay the taxes on the replacement up front even though we've already paid that or more for the Note 7 (which will EVENTUALLY be refunded to the account, maybe), and then being locked into another 2 year upgrade cycle even though it's more than possible that the Note 7's replacement will come out in the next 8 months and we'll then be stuck with whatever replacement we choose to get now, as a kneejerk reaction to not being able to keep the phone we (well, I, at least) absolutely love more than any smartphone I've owned since the DroidX. I'll have to buy another case for the new phone, and yet ANOTHER screen protector (5th one now since I went through 2 ****ty glass ones on the first Note before settling on a film one and then having to get another one for the replacement Note).
**** this whole situation. I love the Note 7 and hate that I'm going to end up settling on the S7E (To keep in the Samsung family for my GearVR and Fit2) and being stuck with it till well after the Note7's replacement hits the market. If the Pixel XL had removable storage I'd just jump over to that, get a refund on the GearVR, sell the Fit2 and just stew in it for the next 2 years. 32gb without removable storage, on a "flagship" with VR support? Has Google never seen the file sizes of high res 3D Movies and VR porn? Daydream is gonna flop if Pixel is its driving force in the market.
This. ****. Sucks.

Read what you want and skip over that everything for the Note 7 is halted and they're looking for alternative solution, meaning something other than note 7. It's dead, get over it.

This. ****. Sucks.

I'm switching over to the Pixel XL also and was concerned about not having storage but they do offer a 128GB option. That's what I'm getting.

Samsung still can't reproduce the problem. They lost in the court of public opinion which matters more. No way are they going to stick me with an older s7 on a payment plan. They should offer an even better deal at least.
I no longer feel unsafe using the Note, could be incredibly dumb, but I'm not convinced by the new reports. Verizon sending me out of the store with this "dangerous" item and just cutting the cord was surreal too.
i just swapped my Note 7 for an iPhone Plus . I didn't go to a store, I called the 611 support line and ordered through a Verizon rep. They sent me the new iPhone, but didn't include anything pertaining to how I send the Note back. Are they reporting all swaps to Samsung so that Samsung will automatically send me a mailing box? I highly doubt it. So for now, I've activated the iPhone, and I'm still using the Note 7 as strictly a wifi device, so I can do everything with it other than take phone calls and send texts. I think I have the best of both worlds. BTW, the battery life on the iPhone is phenomenal, the first day when I was setting everything up, I got SOT of almost 8 hours. It's also very fast and smooth.
Welp as of Saturday at noon it will be illegal to take a note 7 on a plane. This might change some folks minds on keeping that "free" phone.

Yeah but, how are they going to know you have a note 7? They gonna start closely looking at everyone's phones from now on or what?

Will AT&T turn off the phones in time if you do not return it?

Will AT&T turn off the phones in time if you do not return it? Maybe a couple months or ? I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
Thinking of my options and if I can hold off until the S8 release. BTW, I don't fly commercially, but they could cripple the phone so bad it could be pretty useless.

In just got a text from ATT saying that on Oct 15, all Note 7's will officially be banned on all flights by the FAA.
As for a shut down, its possible, but not confirmed. If it happens though, it'll most likely be a few months down the road. Enough time for people to find replacement phones. I wouldn't be surprised if it was soon after the S8 launch.

They're not going to remotely shut then all down.. Even in the policy and texts you notice that they say you're 'highly recommended' to return it. When it comes to installments, legally it may be smarter for them not to charge people, because then the 'loan' may be subject to lemon law or something similar, but that's over my pay grade.
For those worried about being shut down, just look at the Quickfire. That phone was recalled and people still have them on the network (probably only 2 or 3 after all this time). Point being, they can't just shut em off unless they can prove it's harmful to the network. While the note can seriously damage itself and possibly your leg, a defective battery can't hurt the network so we should be safe.
As silly as it is, I just can't bring myself to return it.. I've switched back to my 7 edge because work doesn't want us using Note 7's, but I'd like to keep it just on the off chance theres any new info. Definitely not paying $900 for a marshmallow device without updates though.

They've already started. My ver 1 note 7 has its imei magically blocked and I had my imei guys to get on it and there was nothing they could do. Only way is imei swap. Took me over an month to get someone natively American on the phone at Samsung to take my exchange instead of just hanging up like an idiot. I got mine from Craigslist.
So att is blocking imei?
I'm on my note 5..but my note 7 still works
RorySam said:
They will block all imei's till the end of this month as I know, even if you try to unlock phone via code they won't provide it officially, I managed to request a code for unlock on this page for 30$ facebook.com/gsmserviceremote , it took 1 day and code worked

If you have yours from Craigslist, don't you think it's more plausible that whoever sold you the phone, may have ripped you off one way or another?
AT&T already stated you can use your note 7 until December 31st. Samsung plans to give everyone a free upgrade to the s8 for all of our troubles if you turned your note 7 in for another galaxy device.

That's for South Korea only, no upgrade program here so don't hold your breath on that. Also at&t reps rarely know much more than us I don't believe that they're going to kill all devices after the new year.

So far I haven't heard of an official final date.. as a matter of fact, I received an email today from AT&T about me turning my Note 7 in, and it stated they urged me to turn it off and bring it back, but there was no date involved or anything.

Me too

Got Note 7 originally made in China??? KEEP IT NOT AFFECTED PER SPRINT TECH

Staying.. I just left Sprint ,,,its only voluntary. I was told check the back of your phone if it says made in China.... keep it. Its not in any danger any more than anyother lithium ion battery pho which is all cell phones. I actually got an original made in china the first time apolied the green battery update and not looking back. We'll just have to wait for S7 edge to get an update port it over and install all the SPen apps and keep going.

considering the recall was extended because supposedly these made in china replacement phones were still having problems, you might want to ignore what some store told you. Appears they have 0 clue what they are talking about. lol.

Returned mine anyways. Not worth the worry of it exploding and can't board an airplane with a Note 7 now... moving on

I just flew they told me to power my note 7 down that was it
Social media killed the Note 7 not Samsung. The hand was forced because people blew it out of proportion! I still have my day one Note 7 (which is the china version) and I haven't had any problems and doubt I will. People just kept sharing it and the media kept fueling the fire. I don't plan on giving my phone up. They'll have to deactivate them in order for me to consider something else. I'll just end up paying full price to buy the next Note if they decide not to deactivate them.
I'm not giving mine up either. We need to start a root bounty. It's unlikely that any of the good devs will put any work in, but maybe. This phone has potential to be a cult classic. I saw that someone actually got CM 13 working on the exynos Note 5, so maybe that could happen here. I hate this locked bootloader. Sprint has always played nice until recently. I emailed Chainfire and begged him to find a root method, but I never got a response. You guys should email him too.
Out of all the note 7 owners left, no one is capable of rooting it? I just got a message today from sprint, with a video nonetheless telling me i will experience service interruptions if i don't return it

Interesting that I didn't get that message. Rooting won't help service interruptions from Sprint. If you can unlock to use on a different carrier then it's a different story.
No rooting doesnt help, changing the imei does
