So I've had two today, maybe by accident maybe not. After I pulled the phone out of my trousers pocket it asked for my pin. So it rebooted. I believe it's not a software thing, rather me somehow not locking the phone while I place it into the pocket and then pressing the power button and accidentally pressing reboot. I think it's annoying. Anyone else had similar experiences?

Could he holding the power button. Since nonremovable battery that's how you reboot it if hard frozen. My old nexus on belt clip would reset all the time in my truck with seat belt.
Yeah forgot about that. Accidentally pressing it for 8 seconds or longer triggers a reboot as well. Thanks

My G2 works as it should, but recently it started to behave rather weirdly...
The only button I cannot use, is the ON/OFF/STANDBY-button. It doesn't work at all. And when I am using the phone, i.e typing a text message, it randomly gives me the "shut down, airplane mode, silent mode"-menu, just as it'd happen when I press the On/off/standby-button. It works on its own... when I am typing this, I see that the "shut down, airplane mode, silent mode"-menu keeps on coming up and then disappearing after 4-5 secs, even if I am not touching the phone at all!
However, this sometimes goes away so I can use the on/off/standy-button again like normal, but then maybe after few days, it "locks" again and start "behaving" on its own...
What is happening with my G2?! What have I done? Can it be an application that I've installed, or? Any ideas?
I would reflash your rom after a complete wipe (factory, dalvik) start fresh. I seen this in another thread with someone else. If it doesn't help it could be a hardware problem. How long have u had your phone?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Seems to me like a hardware issue. You might have to remap your on/off button to something else. Try this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464
I see...
I am new to this flashing thing... Hmm.... I am supposed to meet a friend who want to buy the phone, but I suppose it's not possible to get this fixed until then?
What happens if I reset anything to factory defaults? Would the power-button work as it should then, or?
Also, I've got pics and movies on my SD-card. How do I completely "refresh" the phone so there's no trace of my photos/videos?
I've had my phone for roughly 2 months. Bought it as new then. Worked nicely until recently.. Haven't dropped it on the floor either.

Apparently not...
Hey did you solve this issue? My Power button suddenly stopped working as well.
Backup your sd card data, pics and such to your pc,,,, dropbbox is the best btw. Then use cwm to format the sd card. as far as the power button, its prob a hardware flaw. sell it cheap and move on.
Could it be a problem with the flex table connecting the two halves of the phone?
I have a similar problem with my old touch pro which is done to the cable.

C'mon guys -- its probably just a stuck button. You have too much grime in there.
You MIGHT be able to clean it out and get it working without taking it apart by doing the following...
You will need a small spray bottle with some rubbing alcohol (NOT the 99% kind)
1. backup the phone, just in case, shut it down and REMOVE THE BATTERY.
2. spray the button area. Saturate it, try to get alcohol into the cracks around the button. If you get some on the screen, wipe it off.
3. work the button for a couple of minutes. push it push it push it push it push it push it push it push it push it push it push it push it push it .
4. Let the phone dry out -- the alcohol should evaporate pretty quickly, but I would wait two or three hours before...
5. replace the battery, turn on the phone and test.
AS USUAL, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Well I did a replacement and all is good now just finally rooted it

All I did was put the tab to sleep and when I went back it wouldn't turn on. It was completely unresponsive. I tried power and volume buttons but nothing happened. Found a little tidbit about holding power button and touching the screen for 15 seconds and it rebooted. Never heard of that method but it worked.
Anybody else have this happen to them? Completely stock Tab too. Non-rooted.

just search for SOD ... sleep of death and you'll find a lot of users complaining of your issue. this is something that has and is plaguing all the current tegra tablets.dont worry, this is not something specific to the galaxy tab 10.1
I thought the sleep issue was just for the Toshiba tablet and they had a fix in an OTA.

Never had this issue with my Xoom. Haven't seen any threads about this in Xoom forums either. So i doubt all HC tabs have this issue.
Infact i haven't had this issue on my GT10.1 (yet).
About holding power and touching the screen. You don't need to touch anything but the power button. Hold the power button for 10 seconds and it restarts, this is written in manual.
I held the power button for 10 secs and nothing happened, 30 secs and nothing. Held the power button and tried both volume buttons as well. I tried every combo I could think of for about 10 minutes. I then got on my desktop and just Google searched and some dude who has a blog gave the directions for touching the screen and power button. Maybe 6 or 7 others had same thing in comments section of this guys blog. I was freaking. Dude saved me a trip to best buy. Everything seems good now.

I had the same problem that happened twice on two different Galaxy Tab device.

I've experienced this before and thought it was just my tab.... your method worked which really surprised me, thanks for the tip and never knew other people actually experienced this.
Yeah, I had no idea that putting my thumb on the screen and holding power button would do anything. I should Google search again so I can give this guy some credit.

Happened once to me, touching the screen and holding power worked and it hasn't happened again.
Hey
My power button seems to have failed on me. I press it but nothing happens and I leave the phone alone and it press itself. Something inside must have failed
Can I fix this myself? Not sure if I have a warranty on this phone anymore (never unscrewed but rooted and has CM running on it)
Hm can't say much. Did you drop it? Could there be dust and pocket lint in there preventing button movement?

Open your battery cover, does it say VOID?

Seems like delayed response. Not a dead power button. Check how much ram is left on ur phone.

Strange, I just had this happen to me the other day! It ended up being dust/lint...
hopefully that's all it is for you as well!
My power button is also acting up. When I hold it down while the phone is on nothing happens. When I pull the battery and put it back in it turns itself on. It is rooted running the Andromadus Alpha v5, previously running ILWT CM7 where it was doing the same thing but I didn't figure it out before flashing the ICS ROM. What would happen if I took it to a T-mobile store?
Happening exactly the same, button doesn't react completely and if i remove battery start up automatically. But i drowned the phone before so probably thats why...
Happened to me. I ended up just remapping my trackpad button to the power button.
How you did it?

I'd love to know that as well
My power button broke a little while ago so I just sent it in for a replacement. I unrooted first to be safe.

The symptoms sound to me like the power button is stuck down, either the plastic button itself or the actual switch contacts underneath it.
Seems like it has auto fixed itself...........for now.
I edited the curcial-oj.ko file or whatever. Changed the key binding to POWER instead of trackpad click.
You can use adb to pull/push the file from /system/usr/keylayout. Reboot after pushing
keep in mind this only affects the android os, so you still need to be able to turn on your phone without using the power button (can't use tp to power on phone)
Got a couple s4s that won't do anything. ..won't even show the Samsung splash screen for its entirety. ..switched batteries no luck....what's causing them to seemingly fail?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Free mobile app
Could you provide some additional information? How did you acquire these S4's? Do you know their history? Were they non-functioning when you got them? Can you put them into download mode. Have you tried flashing stock firmware?
One I bought myself the other was brought to me by a customer. Mines was working fine root with safestrap, nj4...idk about his but both experience the same symptoms. Won't turn on with the Power button. Nor charge when plugged in. Will only attempt to boot when battery is inserted. Mines would show the Samsung custom padlock, his the original Samsung s4 logo. Both shut off before the logos dissappear on their own.

None won't make it to download or recovery mode..I even charge the batteries in this working s4 I'm using as we speak so I know the batteries are good.

There's not much you can do yourself if you are unable to get the phones into download mode. Normally, when there is some sort of life in the phone, such as seeing the logo, etc, then it is recoverable. But you need to get into download mode.
I don't know the S4 very well as I've never had one apart, but on the SII the power button is soldered onto the mother board. On the SII, the symptoms of a failed power button include the exact symptoms you describe on your phones, the power button ineffective but boots when battery inserted. That could be similar on the S4 I suppose. Also, the fact you can not get into download mode or recovery mode, both of which require the power button, suggests that the button is faulty.
I was unable to find a replacement part for an S4 power switch with a quick search, or any info. You might look into a service like mobiletechvideos.com. They offer power button repair for the S4 for $40.00. I can highly recommend Jeff Groce, the owner.

My S4 is having this same issue. It's the power switch. You can try opening the phone and cleaning it with a cotton swab and alcohol, pressing the switch to make sure it gets any debris out of the switch. Otherwise, it may be possible to try pressing the button a few times, then remove and put the battery back in. If it doesn't turn on automatically, plug it in while holding volume down, and then hit cancel when download mode comes up. It will boot and run fine as long as you don't press the power button.
It takes many tries to get it to start like this, and it may be easier to just remove the switch from the board. There are definitely replacements available, I've seen a video of someone replacing it but it requires soldering tools of course.
took the ****in button off im as good as gold...may i recommend gravity screen for those with screw power buttons? put that gyroscope to work ppl.

Glad you got it working. I have gravitybox installed so I just set long presses of menu and back to Power Menu and Sleep respectively. Works great for me.
I think my v20 has started bootlooping. I am not 100% sure exactly what bootlooping entails but I plugged in my phone last night with my normal charger and when I woke up the phone was stuck on the ATT logo splash screen. I tried to hard reset but holding the power button didn't do anything. I have to take out the battery to power it down. Now every time I try to power up the phone either gets stuck on the LG or ATT splash screen. I spoke with people from ATT and they said I could send in my phone as it is under warranty but they're is some data I would like to get off of it first. Does anyone know if there is a way to even temporarily get the phone booted?
Turn the phone completely off. Hold the volume down button and power button at same time. As soon as you see the LG screen, let go of the power button still holding volume down but Quickly re-press and hold power button down all while still holding that volume down button. Can you get anywhere like that?
Oh yes, I got to the factory reset screen. Thank you for some progress. Would the only option from this point to actually reset? Most of my concern with doing this myself was to recover some data.
