All I did was put the tab to sleep and when I went back it wouldn't turn on. It was completely unresponsive. I tried power and volume buttons but nothing happened. Found a little tidbit about holding power button and touching the screen for 15 seconds and it rebooted. Never heard of that method but it worked.
Anybody else have this happen to them? Completely stock Tab too. Non-rooted.

just search for SOD ... sleep of death and you'll find a lot of users complaining of your issue. this is something that has and is plaguing all the current tegra tablets.dont worry, this is not something specific to the galaxy tab 10.1
I thought the sleep issue was just for the Toshiba tablet and they had a fix in an OTA.

Never had this issue with my Xoom. Haven't seen any threads about this in Xoom forums either. So i doubt all HC tabs have this issue.
Infact i haven't had this issue on my GT10.1 (yet).
About holding power and touching the screen. You don't need to touch anything but the power button. Hold the power button for 10 seconds and it restarts, this is written in manual.
I held the power button for 10 secs and nothing happened, 30 secs and nothing. Held the power button and tried both volume buttons as well. I tried every combo I could think of for about 10 minutes. I then got on my desktop and just Google searched and some dude who has a blog gave the directions for touching the screen and power button. Maybe 6 or 7 others had same thing in comments section of this guys blog. I was freaking. Dude saved me a trip to best buy. Everything seems good now.

I've experienced this before and thought it was just my tab.... your method worked which really surprised me, thanks for the tip and never knew other people actually experienced this.
Yeah, I had no idea that putting my thumb on the screen and holding power button would do anything. I should Google search again so I can give this guy some credit.

Happened once to me, touching the screen and holding power worked and it hasn't happened again.

I wasn't doing anything special with my Tab, just browsing some sites, put it away for maybe an hour, then brought it out. Hit the power button on the side and... nothing.
I held it, thinking maybe it turned off. I also charged it for a while, thinking maybe the battery turned off.
Nada.
Anyone experience something like this and have a fix?
Thanks in advance.
try a long press on the power button.. maybe 10 secs... it might have frozen on the last software and that will turn it completely off. let me know if it works.
nvm... as soon as i finished typing this, the damn thing roared back to life..
mod, please delete~!

That has happened to me 2 or 3 times during the past one month. I guess it is a feature (!) of the Tab

LOL neat feature.
I have had this happen too. I just held the power button down too for 5 secs and it worked.
So I just booted up my new tab, started setting it up and it worked great. Started up a youtube video, then it locked up. Touchscreen stopped working, power buttons still work though. WTF? should I return it? It It turns on when I press the power button, but that its. Touchscreen is no responding
Lmao messed up the title : (
Is there a way to reboot it?
Try holding down the volume down(the left one) and the power button down for 5 seconds to force the tab to shut off. Then turn it on and see if the problem is still there. If so then return it and get a new one.

I've noticed this a few times on mine. A quick press of the power button usually fixed it.

I am having the same issue. I had a 32GB 10.1 from Amazon.com that worked flawlessly and then I saw the deal on eBay from Datavis for 529.00 so I ordered one from them. I never had this issue with the Amazon unit.
I wonder if I should return it or wait until something is addressed by Samsung.
Return it right away if it is freezing. That is only going to get worse.
Mine did that aswell, got so bad it would lock up then i hit the lock button and unlcok the tab is starts working then 1 minutes later same thing this happened for about a day or so then i called amazon they sent a replacement but then my tab just stopped doing that its been more than a week and hasn't done it since. im thinking of just returning the replacement back to amazon since the whole process or regetting apps is a pain.
I had to return mine, since it was not responding at all, no reboot or any power button presses would resolve it. It happened suddenly, before it was working just fine.
I'm on my 3rd (and final) Galaxy Tab... the two previous ones I had exhibited the same behavior. Unlock the screen, but the touchscreen doesn't work. It shouldn't do that, and if this 3rd device does that even once, it gets returned, I get my money back, and I'll stick with the Asus Transformer.
Here is something kinda funny. When I turn off my Asus or just the screen I hit the power button quick response and it works. When the unit is off I hit the button for a second and it doesnt turn on. sometimes I have to hold it for 5 seconds or so. I know the screen turns on after you release it but I am wondering what is normal since I dont have another one to compare it to. Or someone knows something I dont. I am running rooted 1.4 and acutally just installed clemsyn v12 but it has done the power button thing all along. I actually dont remember if it did it pre root.
I just started having issues with my power button, and did a search to see if others had issues. Is the upper left side of your back bezel creeky? My power button just got stuck, but I had something similar to what you described. I wonder if the creekiness contributed to inconsistent power button presses.
Actually I don't notice creekyness but boy my button has really gotten bad. the past few days I have had to push ans hold the button numerous. times to start. I think I may send it back.....

Same here. Have had the TF for more than a month. Been having this issue the last few days. I noticed it works fine when the battery is near full. The emptier ---> the worst. Does it have anything to do with the overclocked kernel (voltage-settings..) ?? May go back to stock kernel to check out.
I have had mine for a week and it started doing the same thing. After trial and error, I found that this seems to work. Press and hold the power button for two seconds, then release it. Immediately press and release it again without holding it down for any length of time. It has worked every time for me the past three days.
I've got a completely stock 3.1 tablet and a quick press (< 1 sec) while the power is off does nothing. A press of about 2 seconds will power up
i just rooted with prime 1.5 and started having the problems with power button. I may have to go back and check. I didnt have any problems 10 minutes ago in stock.
Edit: my power button seems to be back to normal, i am still rooted and all i did was to wait overnight, weird.
I read somewhere on xda that one has to hold the power button for 6 seconds from the turned-off state to start booting the device. Seems weird indeed, but doesn't really bother me, as long as it is consistent. The tablet will be in the sleep mode most of the time anyway.
Hi Guys,
I recently moved and just took my I/O edition Tab 10.1 out to play with but it won't power on, won't charge, won't do anything. Any ideas?????
I had updated it to 3.1 and it sat for approx. 1 month without use. I plugged it in to the AC Adapter and left it for about 5hrs, came back and still nothing.
Help will be greatly appreciated.
Jeff
Best bet is to call the Samsung number on the back if the tab above the serial number. They were really cool and even sent a prepaid postage I just had to provide a box to ship it in.

someone i know went through this recently (was retail).
do this:
hold power + both vol buttons for 30+ seconds.
now see if it will turn on.
Pershoot is a genius.. But, if that doesn't work, try this thread out for size. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130574
If that sdoesn't work odin the european touchwix rom located in the developers section.. I was stuck on bootloader and that did it for me.. Good luck man... I know I felt like **** when I thought I had no hope...

It is not good for a device to leave it unused for a month. The battery might be dead for good. Best practice is to leave the battery charged at 50%. This is what I read.... I am not an expert, and and I hope that this is not your case.

Update:
No go on anything. The unit will not power on and is not recognized by the computer.
Any other suggestions? I don't want to have to send it in.
Damn homie, if that thread didn't work for you I'm out of ideas.. I'm sorry. Looks like you are going to have to contact samsung..

Place two finger tips on the glass and hold the power button until it turns on. This happened to me a few times on my retail tab 10.1. It works for me everytime.
Did you try holding the power button down for an inordinately long time? I started panicking this morning when my tab wouldn't turn on and so I held the power button down for maybe like a minute then it decided to turn back on.
Anybody knows what's wrong and how do I solve it? Here's the entire story (if it helps):
I went to Play and updated my apps. I press and held the power button and selected "restart". (I restart my device regularly) However, after shutting down, it does not boot at all and no matter how many times I press the power button it just wouldn't boot up!
I tried charging it too. Nothing happens even after plugging in.

Can you get to the boot loader, if so, try to wipe data from the recovery within the boot loader.
Or else leave the battery to drain fully , this will solve your problem and the tab will boot.
This happened to me couple of weeks ago and draining the battery solved this issue.

May I know how do I get to the bootloader? I can't even allow the battery to drain. The problem is it is not even starting at all. I pressed the power button a million times and NOTHING happens at all, the screen didn't even turn on.

You can get to the boot loader by pressing power button + volume down at the same time.
try it.

Nope. I wish it did.
Try to hold the power button in about 4 or 5 seconds. I doubt it'll do anything. It sounds like there's a problem with power button or hardware.
I had a thrive 7 before I got my gtab 7.7 and my first one I exchanged because of a problem identical to yours. It was very sketchy to power on.
Exchange or warranty if you can unless someone else has any ideas

Only alternative left to leave it till battery drains, if you can remember the battery percentage before this happens, otherwise i am out of solutions.
A service center would be an alternative choice.

I decided to give it another shot a minute ago and it miraculously worked! I have no idea what's wrong or what caused the positive issue but am happy that it is fine now. Thanks guys!
