New Galaxy Tab, touch screen no responding... - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

So I just booted up my new tab, started setting it up and it worked great. Started up a youtube video, then it locked up. Touchscreen stopped working, power buttons still work though. WTF? should I return it? It It turns on when I press the power button, but that its. Touchscreen is no responding
Lmao messed up the title : (

Is there a way to reboot it?

Try holding down the volume down(the left one) and the power button down for 5 seconds to force the tab to shut off. Then turn it on and see if the problem is still there. If so then return it and get a new one.

I've noticed this a few times on mine. A quick press of the power button usually fixed it.

I am having the same issue. I had a 32GB 10.1 from Amazon.com that worked flawlessly and then I saw the deal on eBay from Datavis for 529.00 so I ordered one from them. I never had this issue with the Amazon unit.
I wonder if I should return it or wait until something is addressed by Samsung.

Return it right away if it is freezing. That is only going to get worse.

Mine did that aswell, got so bad it would lock up then i hit the lock button and unlcok the tab is starts working then 1 minutes later same thing this happened for about a day or so then i called amazon they sent a replacement but then my tab just stopped doing that its been more than a week and hasn't done it since. im thinking of just returning the replacement back to amazon since the whole process or regetting apps is a pain.

I had to return mine, since it was not responding at all, no reboot or any power button presses would resolve it. It happened suddenly, before it was working just fine.

I'm on my 3rd (and final) Galaxy Tab... the two previous ones I had exhibited the same behavior. Unlock the screen, but the touchscreen doesn't work. It shouldn't do that, and if this 3rd device does that even once, it gets returned, I get my money back, and I'll stick with the Asus Transformer.

Has Anyone Else Had This Problem?

Okay I've been having this issue since I got my Nexus a couple of weeks ago. Several times a day I'll go to take it out of my pocket or pick it up off a table and when I go to hit the unlock button at the top nothing happens, the screen never wakes up. The trackball will still be lighting up as always but nothing on the screen. I have to pull the battery in order to get it to reboot so I can use it.
Due to this issue and getting dust under my screen I called HTC for a replacement. I got my replacement yesterday and got it all set up again. Within the first 2 hours I picked it up off my table and it wouldn't wake up. And this has probably 4 times since I got the phone yesterday.
Is ANYONE have this issue? I think it's a little weird it happened on my original device and now on my replacement.
Never happened to mine so far that I have noticed. Not that this information helps you any but...
ive bought 2 for me and one for a friend. None have any issues at all so far
I haven't had this problem...
just for the hell of it have you tried restoring it.

you bought 2 for yourself and one for your friend? Can I be your friend?
Maybe you're just not pushing the button hard enough, or you need to find a "sweet spot."
I've never had this issue. Is it possible that you have installed an application that could be the issue?
i had this problem too for the first time last night. My notification light was flashing... pressing power button did not wake up.... I even long pressed power buttoin in the hope of getting the shutdown option, but nothing... i did a quick google search to see if there was a way of soft resetting, but couldnt find one, so pulled out the battery.
Its been fine since
No I only bought one of them but had to do an exchange on it because of it not waking up and the screen was getting dust under it. The exchange I got in the mail is still doing the wake up thing.
It's not due to pushing the button wrong I know that much haha. I'm a pretty skilled button presser
Well at least one person knows what I'm talking about. Let me know if it happens to you again
I have 2 nexus ones and one of then does have this issue. I have had it happen 3 to 5 times.

Have you rooted either of them? I'm thinking it's some type of software glitch that might be fixed once new ROMs get cooked up but I've been holding off on rooting to preserve my warranty because of this issue.
Never had that problem.
Just so the forum doesn't just fill up with complaints.

iv been having this prob with the mt3g, tmobile is sending me a new phone im thinking its the htc keyboard apk or the nexus news widget apk, i have never had this problem till i put these two apps on my mt3g
Oh man! I thought I was the only one with this issue! It sometimes a couple of times a day and it's extremely inconvenient! I thought maybe my phone had gotten too hot and it froze or something but I could never figure out why it really happened. Mine is also rooted so maybe that's the issue? I hope someone finds the cause of this problem and even better, a solution, soon. It's pretty annoying, and one of the very few things that I don't like about my new partner.
I must be a lucky sob, beacause my nexus has no problems at all, working vib, no dust under screen, all buttons work, no problems at all (knocks on wood)
I'm having one issue and it can be annoying. Sometimes my screen just doesn't respond and if it does it's miles off. like if I press in the middle, the menu pops up as if the calibration is off by an inch or so. The annoying part is when a call comes in and I can't slide to answer which makes me miss a proper button.
My N1 is not rooted and a reboot normally sorts it out.
Edit: I forgot to mention that this almost always happens after I plug the charger like it is now arrrrgghhhhhhh.
I'm not having any issue with power on button and my N1 is not rooted (yet).

Anyone else having issues with buttons?

I bought the NS last week on Thursday and the back button seems to stick a lot and I have to press a lot harder. The other 3 buttons work perfect so I'm just curious if anyone else is having similar issues. I'm guessing I'll have to test it back because it's quite annoying having to press it 3-4 times just to get it to work.
I had to exchange mine yesterday because the back button would disappear and become completely unresponsive...
I also exchanged one that had this issue.
The search button and home button did not work for me when I first turned it on. They worked after I restarted it.
No button problems here

My buttons haven't had any problems thus far
Make sure you have that factory screen protector off. I've had it happed with my Vibrant, but once I took it off, everything was actually working fine.
Glad to see I'm not the only one but it sucks that I have to exchange it though and re root it all over again.
the back button sucks in general Ive gone through 2 but I still have the plastic maybe thats my problem
Ive also had that issue best buy replaced it for me. This units back button works great.

[Q] Capacitive buttons

Anyone having big issues with the capacitive buttons taking multiple times to work?
really just started bad today, previously I was hitting them maybe 5 times before they work. Now I'm having to press them minimum 10 or 15 times before any of them work, and they do not work at all if the phone is laying flat on a surface
Anyone got any ideas?
There was a trick on how to do it, but I kind of forgot. I think they almost always work if you kind of swipe over the button.

Had that happen on my old Epic with the back button. You'd have to press hard to get it to work and sometimes it took a few presses. But that wasn't the worst problem with my capacitives. Not long after I got the phone the Menu button started pressing itself repeatedly at random, and the issue would persist through reboots, even before the OS was loaded, etc. It was pretty obvious it was a hardware issue. Problem was, it'd do it for an hour or so during which the phone would be virtually unusable and then suddenly stop and go back to normal.
I remember rushing to Sprint one time with the thing flashing and the sonofabitch stopped right before I got in the door. The guy in the store musta thought I was crazy. "Dude, it was just doing it. It was flashing on and off and popping the settings menu up over and over. Does it all the time, starts and stops out of the blue. No, I'm serious!" Then I had nothing to do but show him my "lazy" capacitive Back button and I got that look from the tech like "C'mon, really?" and so I took it home hoping that the next time the Menu button freaked out I'd be near the Sprint store.
Finally I woke up one morning and the capacitive buttons were completely dead, unresponsive. Was a relief when I brought it into the Sprint store. They had a tech work on it for an hour and said he couldn't get the capacitive contacts parted from the glass (I mean, isn't that one of the things they marked about SAMOLED, the glass has an integrated capacitive layer?)
So they shipped me a brand new Epic, and that's the one I have now.
I took it in about a month ago to show the tech and he said it was working fine o I just had to leave, nothing I could do about it
this has always been a problem for me but being epic is my secondary phone i just deal with it.
how is it that samsung is allowed to get away with such ****ery?

Power button sticks

I've had my power button become less useful over a week or so. Sometimes a push does NOT wake the tablet up. It seems I have to try several times to lock it and/or unlock it.
Anyone else have this problem?
no.
try, (if you have warranty) exchanging it.
or perhaps your pressing to hard.
most devices mow days only need a slight touch.
No issues here!

No issues here either, use the warranty, its your right.
Dang. Lucky me! I might see if it gets better. I've got 90 days @ costco. Thanks!
You could use No Lock, that should let you wake it up with the volume keys.

i definitely have. seems like i have a waking problem if i let my xoom charge for a extended period of time (i.e overnight and forget to unplug it till my lunch break). idk if thats your problem too but i dont charge my xoom now until its basically dead and i havent had an issue since.
power button
I've had similar problems recently. Like in the last two days. I've had my xoom about 14 day a now. I've tried plugging it in and hitting power but it didn't work. Took several tries and holding for a while. Haven't tried a hard reset yet.

Transformer hard to Awake

My transformer stand by button doesn't work all the time. Some time my finger literally hurts from applying the button.. Any suggestions

If you are rooted, install setcpu and create a profile for screen off and set the min to something in the middle 300's.
You could also verify you don't have a bunch of apps running.
I don't have that problem with mine. I just look at it and it wakes... maybe your button is broken?
I had the same problem with my first TF. After researching for a while, realized that it's the button. Returned it and got a new one. No problem with this one.
Same problem for me.
At the beginning I was thinking about a feature to avoid unaccidental power-on, then realized it is a bug (it got harder and harder, and after 40 days it ended up completely broken).
Just changed with a new one (thanks, Amazon): on/off button works like a charm on the new one.
I don't have a problem, but on a cold start there is a delay from pushing the button and something coming up on the display.
What I do is hold the button and count to 3 or 4. Then let go of the button. Within 5-10 seconds the information starts appearing on the screen.
When the unit is sleeping, it only takes a 1 second or less push of the button to get the screen back up.
