Is it possible to remove Google Keyboard languages? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I get really annoyed when I see that the Play Store asks me to update several languages for the Google Keyboard (like Korean). Is it possible to use Titanium to uninstall these unwanted languages? I could always use the extra space removing them would perhaps bring. Anyone knows if removing them will cause phone issues overall?

Yes you can. The Korean, Chinese (Pinyin) and Japanese keyboards are separate apps. You can either disable them in your Apps settings or remove them completely using Titanium Backup like I did.

So I did this, but for some reason, the apps are still showing up in my Play Store list to update... weird.

I had this issue a few times with Titanium Backup. I think the initial uninstall removed the update and I found I had to do it twice to remove the app completely. You must remember to reboot after doing this as sometimes preloaded apps stay in memory and reinstall themselves. This has also happened a few times to me. A reboot normally scans for changes.

[Q] Apps keep uninstalling at random... ideas?

As the title says. Random apps are disappearing from my phone, and also appear as uninstalled in the Play Store. Their data and settings remain intact, as re-installing the app restores everything to how it should be.
It seems to happen after the phone is turned off and on again, but not every time.
Anyone seen this happen before, and know what the cause is? I've been using HyperDroid for ages, and haven't changed anything recently.
Okay, before I start, this is the first time I see such a problem.
I know a similar case where the whole phone would factory reset upon each restart, but not apps uninstalling. So please don't flame me if I post some insane
Maybe it's your sd card dying (do they die?) and your apps are on it? You haven't changed ANYTHING recently?

The SD-Card is ok, and some apps are on it. It's not just SD-apps disappearing either - some that have been on the internal storage too. I have not changed anything since this started.
I mentioned this to my wife after I posted this thread, and she's been getting the exact same problem. However, she uses a STOCK HTC Rhyme! So it's not just me or the HyperDroid ROM or my HD2.
I'm not sure the apps are really being removed, but any sign of them in the app draw and Google Play is being removed. I didn't check to see if the apk was still present, as the last app to disappear was GO SMS, and I needed it back ASAP.
If/when it happens again, I will check for the apk and data files - I suspect they will still be there, as evidenced by the app settings being unchanged after re-installing the app.

don't forget that depending on your google account backup settings, the app data may be automatically being restored from their backup when you reinstall the app.
Im not saying it IS being restored, and you are probably right, the data probably is still there, just pointing out that that's not a certainty.
Ive seen apps vanish, but only a month or two ago, on the beta/pre beta JB roms, and the apk was still there, just suddenly not installed.

Vault Apps Freezing

I have no idea if this could even be answered in these forums, but here goes.
I use Vaulty to hide pictures on my phone with a password. Restoring data and app has always worked from TB, from phone to phone or ROM to ROM. Today I flashed a custom OOS ROM and it didn't go so well.
Behavior: Hangs/ freezes during any kind of gallery search or media loading. This eventually results in a force close. The settings work, but if you try to switch accounts, it will hang on the screen where it's trying to find old vaults.
Things I have done: Force close the app, clear data, clear cache. Uninstall and reinstall from Play Store. Uninstall and restore only app from TB. Froze 3rd party gallery apps. Set the default gallery app. I even installed another vault program - Vault. This app won't even load up AT ALL. It goes black immediately upon trying to open it. This led me to think something else might be going on.
Has anyone seen anything like this? Anything I could try?

I actually managed to recover the pictures, saved them of the phone and switched to keepsafe, it works better. I found that adding the app manually and logging in, trying to restore just data from TB, and a bunch of other combinations finally allowed me to recover the pictures. This was a while back so I don't remember exactly but eventually I got it.

Thanks for the response. My problem is, I have old vaulty backup on my phone and no app installed. Today I tried to install app to recover my backup. But it went blank screen as soon as I open my app. Tried different apks of different versions from net. But it won't go beyond black screen. Tried all cleanup, cache removal from twrp and from app settings. But same. Aldo tried to install different vault app to check what happen and surprisingly it also freeze at app startup screen and won't go beyond black screen. I think it's ROM problem and some file would be corrupted which belongs to vault apps working. Last resort is to flash fresh ROM and try. (I even didn't restore app backup from tb as I didn't have one. Always installed fresh app from play store)

I went as far as to try to find out how to convert those proprietary .vaulty files back to pictures with some kind of file converter online. I didn't get very far with that method but that might be the last resort. I think I ended up flashing another ROM at the time too and maybe it was dumb luck that I was able to get it back.

VS995 Bloatware on initial setup (stock 13A). Yahoo apps, Yelp, etc.

So I've done a couple factory resets while setting up my new VS995, rooting, etc.
It seems that after initial setup and sometimes even following a couple of reboots more apps just install out of nowhere.
On my last flash the first thing I did was go and freeze all the VZW apps (I'm not with Verizon anymore) and seemingly even after this some additional apps installed.
I don't recall all of them, but there was definitely:
- Yahoo Finance
- Yahoo Newsroom
- Yelp
And 2 or 3 others.
Does anyone know what is causing these apps to install? They don't seem to come back after I remove them.

Thanks. I haven't dealt with this app before on older phones. Quick google search shows it's uber-annoyingness.

Are you sure playstore is not installing them? I. Would also suggest you uninstall them instead of just freezing. No point in having them frozen if you don't use them.

I'm not freezing them. I'm freezing the Verizon system apps. It is clear if you look up what Dtignite is that this must be the culprit.
I wasn't able to actually observe if they were installed through the Play Store or through some back channel, but they were clearly getting installed as user apps after the phone was setup. The good part about it is that even though it is bloatware, Dtignite installs it all as user, so it is easy to uninstall.
I just didn't know what was triggering the installs.
Welcome to Verizon. Its dtignite in earlier versions and mobile system something in newer updates, but it still has the purple swirly icon.

Apps still updated after disabling automatic updates

I disabled automatic updates in playstore settings but for some reason apps are still auto-updating. Its getting to be pretty annoying too because every time I remove a bloatware app it just downloads and reinstalls it.
How do I stop this??

Try clearing Play Store data/cache (settings->apps) followed by a reboot. You will need to update/reapply personal settings, including the master toggle for automatic updates.

Most of them are in the oem partition anyways. So remove them from there. But do it in twrp file manager, because trying to edit oem while booted will lock up the device.

Did Davey126's suggestion of clearing the Play Store app settings fix this for you?

Clearing the play store cache did worked for a few of the apps but the ones in the OEM I effectively deleted in twrp. Turns out the OEM partition on this phone is largely useless bloat and not much else.

Also before deleting from oem, first just try renaming them (with a ~ at the end for example) to make sure it's safe to remove. Then boot up and check, if all is good then you delete if you want. Many people delete things, then come back here asking if anyone has a copy because they deleted something they needed.
Just to be safe.

Yea this ain't my first rodeo. I've bricked far too many devices to make that mistake again. I only did away with the crap I was 100% certain was just that, crap, ie boost zone, amazon, facebook, etc. Though I'm still trying to figure out what it was I removed that rendered system webview permanently frozen, but I made a separate thread regarding that.

I was talking to the person I quoted. To make sure they did it correctly.
Sounds like you did a bunch of stuff that could have caused your issue.

Unwanted ads popping up...

Hello,
Last weekend, I decided to do a factory reset of my H915 (Oreo, stock, no root). I then reinstalled all my apps and then added a few apks. Soon after, I started to get unwanted fullscreen ads popping up often, wheter I was on Facebook or browsing with Chrome. I did a scan with my ESET antivirus, it found nothing. Installed Malwarebytes, scanned, nothing again, uninstalled it.
Then, I uninstalled these new apks I didn't have before, but the damn ads are still popping up. It never happened before doing the factory reset. So, one of the apks must have had a bug...
Is there a trick (a good app) to remove these damn popups appearing, or I'll have to factory reset again and be more careful while installing apks?
Thanks.

if you are an advanced user, you can find the source app showing the ads by adb logcat or ps commands. if not, just reset, install suspicious apps one by one and see.
I have had that happen. Should be an easy fix...go to settings/general/apps, then scroll all the way to the bottom, long press the blank (invisible) app or apps and uninstall.

I accidentally installed one of these invisible apps that I thought was a real app. It was at the bottom of my app list in settings, got kinda scared but I haven't had any issues after uninstalling.
Ended up doing a factory reset... Should have checked back here before...
Thanks for the infos anyway.
ohh so thats what they do lol.... i always make sure that i dont install invisible icon apps hehe
