I have always rooted my phones but so far I haven't rooted my S7 Edge yet. However, the battery life sucks but after reading some comments on here it seems that people who root are getting no better or worse battery life. I was just looking for some feedback from people that have rooted to see what the majority response is. I've been contemplating doing this now for several days.
Thanks.
I've been contemplating about trying root again too, and that's after being on the U firmware. I'm now suffering battery life by only getting 2 hours of SOT by 50%, unlike at the beginning I could get up to 3 hours by 50%.
When I was on root though, that's how bad I suffered, only getting 2 hours of SOT by 50%. My Xperia Z3v is abandoned on support, but could still achieve better battery life being only on Lollipop. C'mon Samsung...

When i rooted my battery life dropped from 2 days to under a day before dying.
I am barely even getting that. I am at 59% right now with 37 minutes SOT and off the battery for 8 hours and 26 minutes. When I check app usage, the only thing that is high is the Android System at 39% and the Kernel at 10.7%. I can't figure out what kills my battery. I am on WiFi most of the time while at work or at home. BT is off as well.
On root you are using the engineering bootloader so the battery life is bad. You are better off using stock U. It runs smooth and battery life is not bad, plus you can get OTA updates.
U is a great FW so far. Battery life for me, with about 4 hours of SOT got me to about 50% at 530pm and I was off the charger at 7am.

I just came from an S3 and had read so many horror stories about the battery life of the Nexus 4. It arrived last night and I didn't bother checking out the stock rom as I immediately flashed AOKP with franco kernal and let me say...battery life has been great thus far. No question it is an improvement over my S3.
So for those who are having major battery issues, I suggest trying a custom rom/kernal.
Thanks to all the developers...I was nervous about making the switch to Nexus, but am very happy so far.
Well yeah....did you try everything on stock and see the battery life from there?
I haven't either. LOL.

How could you possibly know whether the battery life is good or not if you've only had the device for less than 24 hours.
The battery life on one of my Nexus 4s was great for about a week, then it slowly turned to crap.
The battery life on my other is still holding strong...
With my experience, battery life generally gets better as you go through a few cycles. I charged to 100% and with an hour of screen time and 5 hours up time today, I am only at 85%...and I've been on HSPA practically the entire time. With my S3, I would drain 5-8% an hour on HSPA with zero on screen time.
I am seeing tons of the battery life threads, which to be honest, was expected. and I just wanted to put this in perspective for you guys. Currently, I own a Galaxy Nexus, but I am getting a Moto X within the next few days thanks to Moto's Cyber Monday (Wednesday) deal. My battery life average is about 4.5 hours with 1 hour SOT on a full charge. This is not my bad or minimum. This is my average. I spend half of my workday with my phone off and I never leave a charger behind lol.
So in summary, your battery life is still amazing to me if you get 14 hours with 3 hour SOT or anything better and I am really excited to not carry a charge cable everywhere lol

You should see Moto Gs battery life :|
I am generally happy with battery life. But every so often I will see my battery drain about 30-40% overnight. I assume it is a wifi or cellular issue as it also happened on my gs4 and nexus 4. Never happened on any of my iPhones or windows phones though. I assume android's modem software is just poorly written.

Can anybody help me? I've spent hours tweaking and tuning my phone but my battery life is still terrible. I've frozen pretty much every bloat were, disable Google apps, low screen not bright, and using custom kernel and in it. D script. Can someone plz point me in right direction to have excellent battery life?
U call this bad battery life? Are u kidding me? I'll be lucky if i get 4 hrs SOT. Worry no more cuz, u have no problem.
Just wtf... Other than that, there are numerous threads about battery life. Don't be lazy, do some searching.
I combed the forums and Google but could not find good answers. I hear some people get up to 9 hours of SOT and I feel like my battery is poor because I have difficulty achieving 7 hours.
@justinxfan
That you couldn't find them doesn't mean they don't exist.

LOL! 6 hours SoT is great, if you could hit 7 hours that's excellent.
Those who achieve 9 hours do quite a lot of things. They set everything to blackish/darker background, they undervolt the CPU and probably GPU too, then there are other battery friendly Xposed modules are being used, like Amplify, Greenify, Power Nap etc. If you want to do those many things, then go on. I absolutely have no time, and more importantly no interest in wasting hours to achieve an hour or so extra.
You are on KitKat by the way, I have never managed to get any more than 5 hours SoT on KK, have hit 6 hours on LP thogh, quite a lot of times, and even hit 7 hours few months ago, I don't even check how much SoT I am getting as an average now.
how can i get this? i am on stock rooted. removed all the samsung stuff, using greenify. but cant get more than 4 hours on screen on time

Maybe because you're in a zone where reception isn't great? Poor signal is a huge culprit for battery life. Or probably you use 3G/LTE more than you use Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi sucks battery much less than 3G. There are quite a lot of factors here, you just use the phone normally, do not install any stupid apps, you should be able to get 5 hours SoT. 4 hours isn't really that bad anyway.

yes may be the reception isnt that good, i use only 2g.
i charged my note 3 n900 afetr 58 hours and the battery was at 25% and screen on time was 3h40m
Actually I'm using jelly bean I downgraded my phone to jelly Bean from lollipop after lollipop became too much for me.
This is great battery life you get. If you still want more, either turn your phone off, or downgrade it another notch to 3310. The battery will last a whole week.

Hey.
I just recieved notification for new update 1.3gb large. Nougat of course.
But I am not sure i want to update. I heard it really destroys your battery life. And well even on android marshmallow I don't have a very good battery life. So what would you advise me? Do i update or not? And if not. How the hell do I remove the update notification?
And if you could tell me how my battery life is. I think it's not that good compared to other people who calim to get 6-7 hrs SOT with 20% left.
Thanks.
Do it, don't look back ?? I kept switching back and forth myself, and now I just can't go back to old mm, nougat is just too much better
Well i guess i will have to. Since i tried everything to rempve the update notification but i just cant and it annoys me.
Did it decrease your battery life? And is my battery life good? Any ideas how to get up to 6 or 7 hrs like some people?
I did not update because I was afraid the battery life would decrease. In the test at Phonearena.com, the battery life was reduced by 10%.
that depends a lot on apps you have.
I've charged it over night, got up in the morning, played net and some ppsspp for about 3h and it went 38%, still over half battery. On MM it would go a lot faster.
key word is facebook uninstall and see for yourself.
Nougat has bad battery but too many good features.i get around 5-6 hrs sot with nougat
Guys please post you battery life and brenchmerks on nougut and marshmallow so that we can decide which one is better. Some people experiencing poor battery life in nougut. Share screenshot of battery stat and gsm battery monitor and other battery monitoring app. And sorry for bad english.
My rom is stock nougut. Cell standby 2 percent. Phone idle 3 percent. Screen 14 percent.
Screenshot is bellow.
No screenshot on my side but for me the Nougat update has revived the phone: much better battery life (+1h SOT I would say), run cooler, less stutters, smooth scrolling in chrome, fast wifi connection and all the nougat advantages. I haven't seen bugs apart from the system UI tuner that resets itself.
I am running 100% stock, took the OTA when it was offered to me and made a factory reset.

I'll try to remember next week, I switch back to my S7 for the weekend.
Getting almost 4 hours of SOT on my 8 months old device.
My device is 14 months old and I use dual sim cards, mostly I'm on WiFi.
I get 1.5-3 hours of SOT generally. I generally have to charge my phone 3 times a day.
Stock nougat
Only using WiFi
Mostly browsing and videos on YouTube.
Getting 4 to 4.5 hours of sot.
I manage to have 5 hours SoT with android stock funcionalitys only. I am doing test but i maybe i will create a teadh latter to explain how to get more SoT.

I have 2hr SOT. VERY POOR. NEED TO CHARGE 3 TIMES A DAY
Here are my screenshots. I was mostly on WiFi during the day, did a lot of reading/browsing, a little YouTube, and gamed for around 30 minutes. Before I would have needed to recharge mid-afternoon and was getting 2:30/3h max SOT a day.
I'm extremely pleased with the update.
After doing a heavy tweaking of the phone without root i managed to get more than 5 hour of SoT. After that i was getting an unaceptable 3hs SoT.

Probably tonigth i will post a full guide with all the things i did. It is nothing magical, just disabling things, etc.
I used this to get better battery life:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...ide-improve-battery-life-performance-t3647155
Getting about 15-20 minutes of additional SOT after nougat update
