[Q] New, some questions - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

Hi all,
I have upgraded from my LG v10 to the G7 Edge on T-Mobile. Couple of questions. I already rooted it. Can I delete the various KNOX apk's or should I just freeze them? If I delete the T-Mobile hotspot apk I am assuming I can still use the hotpot function in settings? Thanks.
Pat

I would just freeze them...as to your Hotspot situation I think it might force close your settings but don't quote me on that

Thanks. I did just freeze them. Wondering about the Gear VR files. I have no intention on getting a VR.

What is ELMAgent.apk?

Going through and freezing the bloat on my phone and I do not know what ELMAgent.apk (com.sec.esdk.elm) is. I couldn't find anything online either besides it showing up in bloat lists. I would like to know what it does before I freeze it. Anyone know what this does?

Sorry to disappoint, but user level doesn't sound like what's cooking here. Enterprise Level Management
Agents are users in active directory/Microsoft based user accounts can be handed over to the phone users in order to effectively log on to manage servers.
BYOD to work.

I have this issue daily now. I've heard of people freezing or uninstalling it with no effects. I think I will back it up and try removing tonight. Anyone know a possible cause for this bug?

What bug?
Sorry I thought it had been mentioned earlier. I have a notification a couple times a day warning me the ELM agent has stopped responding.

So you're saying that if you freeze ELM, trying to look at the running apps (from Settings or the Home button?) your phone reboots?
Or ELM agent trying to reboot... but how do you when an app trying to reboot itself?

[REQ] Modification to remove Sprint Connections Optimizer option.

Can anyone remove the Sprint Connections Optimizer setting from the data menu (ZVC Stock Rom)?
I found a thread for the Sprint GS3 if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

It still runs in the background, intermittently popping up asking to activate, only way is to delete the apk.

Yep, but the phone apk needs to be edited to remove the option in data settings.

so that it will never bother you again do this.
Apps>ALL>Sprint Connections Optimizer> Force Stop and uncheck Show Notifications.
It will never bother you again.
Other than that im not sure. I guess you have your reasons to not even show in the options list.

Thing is even if I stop notifications it still runs, and can restart even if stopped.

Default App "just once" missing

When I open a file that can be opened with multiple apps, I get the choice notification to pick an app, but there is no "only once" button like on my S4. I have to pick one and it gets stored as the default app and I never get the choice again. Anyone else seeing this?
Yes. Very annoying!!!!
Is this a touchwiz bug? Would you expect it to be fixed in an update?
I believe it is an Android Marshmallow "feature"
I hate it, but can't do a damn thing about it without root
Found the app "Better Open With". Not perfect, but does a good job and no root required.

Awesome! That app has fixed one of my top 5 problems about the S7!
Hotspot tethering I also got working, so 2 things crossed off my list
Next, I need to move my app data. I need root for Titanium, and the Samsung smart switch only moved over APKs and not their data from my S5. Looks like I need to use the Helium app now.
If you want a better chance at rooting sign this and pass it on

Package Disabler Pro - what is safe to disable, and why?

Hello all,
I got Package Disabler Pro yesterday and am looking into slimming the S.EX to get few additional percentages of battery life.
I saw a post about disabling Bixby few days earlier but can't find it anymore so I decided to create a post for experiment with Package Disabler and post their experience.
I will maintain the OP in this thread to list all safe to disable and side effects, if any.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
This is from the old Note 7 thread, I'm sure we'll have one here soon. I've disabled Bixby and all the T-Mobil bloat and a few others so far with no problems.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...ackage-disabler-pro-apps-getting-rid-t3443355
This is what I blocked so far. No issues I have ran into.
I am a verizon S8+.
It would be awesome if someone could maybe explain what each thing does if they know...
I want to know if it allows to disable Bixby button!

Yes, there are entries for Bixby.
I just installed it and disabled bixby button. What a relief! Great package!
Only thing I disabled was the Setup Wizard. It kept telling me my AT&T SIM card was not from Verizon Wireless, haha. Duh, I know it's not. (I had VzW when I preordered via Samsung.com then just ported over this week).
did anyone else get a popup about Knox and some weird samsung terms and conditions when installing and running package disabler? i freaked out and uninstalled and havent retried since.

Didn't get any popups at all. Package Disabler Pro specifically says that it doesn't trip Knox. Maybe your paranoid with your expensive new toy.
disabling the various bixby packages still doesn't let me remap after the april update...

okay so i wasnt crazy. just clicking through did nothing, good to know
Just grabbed package disabler pro. I just came from a rooted S5 and have always rooted my phones but might not bother this time (plus it isnt available yet anyway). disabled a few things that could obviously go but it was a nightmare trying to find any proper explanations of what different things actually did and what their dependencies are, even trying to google them, I generally just ended up with a list that someone else had produced of things they had disabled, but that doesnt help me decide if *I* should disable it because theres no explanations for what they actually do most of the time (and I could do without spending 10 mins trying to google several hundred packages that MIGHT be good to disable but I can't find an explanation for)!
Surprised there arent sites dedicated to listing all these packages with explanations of exactly what they do and what they affect.

Lol same here but I came from nothing but Nexus devices. I was like wtf is bloatware? Lol
I disabled stuff I knew id never use, was very careful. Didn't touch anything that didn't have a proper name, like those "com.xxxx." packages.
Left Knox alone but killed anything that said bixby.

It requires you to activate Knox for the program to work, so that popup you saw was the Knox EULA.
Maybe you can disable Knox after, but I didn't try and I wouldn't suggest it. There's an adblocker too for Samsung devices, AdHell, which also relies on Knox.
It's weird, these apps are using the hardcore "security" feature to give you features with no root.
I just disabled the two System Updates app to prevent my phone from updating. I re routed my bixby button for the camera and i'd like to keep it that way. I also disabled a couple other crap that I couldn't uninstall like some verizon apps.

Small Tip: Disable Lookout for Better Performance on the S8

I noticed some lag on my S8 and I realized that it might be lookout that's causing the lag, as I had it on a prior phone and it caused some lag on that phone.
Go to settings > apps > and find lookout and just press the disable button. For me, at least, I noticed a slight improvement in performance.
disclaimer: yes, I'm sure there are benefits to having Lookout scan and ensure all your apps are safe, but I get all my apps from the play store, and stick with ones I know. Do this at your own risk/responsibility.
Some other things I did that seemed to have helped:
1. I stopped opening the official facebook app. I use a FB wrapper app called 'simple pro' for facebook. Way lighter, less resource intensive.
2. I had installed Greenify to try to help hibernate apps, but I uninstalled it. I think the way it was trying to hibernate apps was causing some lag. Just my observation/assumption. But after I uninstalled, my phone is running way smoother.
That was the only reason why I paid for the disabling app was to get rid of lookout!

You don't need to buy anything - you can just do it in the stock settings.
The disable app button is actually disabled for me.
So does this fix some lag time too or what improvement did you see offhand?

Yes, for me, it reduced the lag/stutter I was seeing here and there.
As a side, I was actually also using Greenify app to try to save battery life, but I noticed that after I UNINSTALLED it, my s8 is also running smoother.
I'll update the original post w/ things I was doing to improve performance - now it's way smoother.

The force close button is also disabled! I can only uninstall the updates and maybe try again but I didn't bother as I have the phone insured and they might require this program to run in case the phone gets stollen or something, I don't know...

yeah see my attached screenshots.
To disable it on t-mobile you need to go into the lookout app and turn off the option to find your stolen phone. After doing so the force stop and disable buttons will no longer be greyed out.
Im trying to get Package Disabler pro to work, and after I activate PDP engine it just flashes the screen a bunch of times and says it has a network error
