Ummm....please refer to image...
Nexus one>Nexus s>Galaxy nexus>Nexus 4
N4 is the fourth Google phone to carry the name nexus

The part I am confused about is what they are going to call the next Nexus device. They can't call it the Nexus 5 because the number refers to the screen size: http://www.google.com/nexus/ (see Nexus 7 and 10).

Yeah I agree, the naming scheme is a dead end.
But I'm still confused about the OPs question. Nexus 4 vs Nexus 4 Original...???

The NEW Nexus 4?
Nexus 4 (2nd Gen)?
OP is talking about the development forums for the N4. One is called "Original"

They'll call it the Nexus 4S and give it minor revision with similar hardware spec. Similar to Nexus One -> Nexus S, and iPhone 4 to 4S. It'll also come with Android 5 and a free bumper case.
Go Home OP, You're DRUNK!
And for the name game the options for Google are - Nexus 4 II or the NEW NEXUS 4

The CEO of Google discounted this in the short term: "I don't think there's any physical way we could have released a Nexus Motorola device in that sense. I mean, we haven't owned the company long enough."

In what sense?
Why can't moto make a nexus like all the other companies, Google doesn't own them at all.

Well this is what the news, Larry Page and Wikipedia has been telling me, but I guess they are wrong: "Motorola Mobility LLC is an American telecommunications equipment corporation owned by Google and headquartered in the Chicago suburb of Libertyville, Illinois."
As for why, Larry Page answered the question: "we haven't owned the company long enough." He never said it won't happen, the hint is maybe it won't be the next Nexus, but not impossible later on.
I do like to see a Motorola Nexus, but the first step for Motorola to make a Nexus device is to get their head out of Verizon's arse.

The difference is that in the 'original' thread only accomplished developers get to post. The normal development thread anyone who makes a ROM can post it up

The comment above made it seem like the reason moto hasn't made a nexus is because Google hasn't owned moto long enough... That's why I replied they don't own the other oems at all.
Unless I'm misunderstanding the comment.

I'm rather peeved about this delay also. We paid for the MOST EXPENSIVE version of the tablet, and we get treated like stepchildren.
I bet Verizon is behind this with their 800 lb gorilla "fart and the world thanks you" attitude about approving updates and devices. The negative of a single-SKU device. Waiting on some monkey in a Verizon office to decide the update is kosher.

Given that the Nexus 4 is also delayed, it likely has something to do with cellular radio firmware, rather than anything involving Verizon. Just a guess, though.
I'm doing a nandroid now just to return to stock!
Wish they would drop the firmware on the server already!

Now would be a good time to rollback to stock recovery/kernel so that the OTA installs smoothly..
i just rooted on saturday and am still on the latest 4.3, any idea if OTA is a bad idea?
I was so confused because Phandroid.com states that "It’s worth noting that Google specifically mentions “Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 versions with mobile data,” so if you’ve got a WiFi only device or don’t currently have service, you probably won’t be seeing an update in the immediate future." So I'm assuming they are wrong... (not unusual).
Damn it! No New Google Launcher experience. I'll be posting the OTA link in the morning. Of noone poste it early.

My original one was made in Korea on 8-9-2016, my new recall replacement one was made in China on 9-2-2016. I used an app called "Phone Info" to gain thus info.
What is going on here?

You can't expect a single factory to produce the entire world's supply of phones. Car manufacturers do the same thing. The same car model will be made in 2 or 3 different factories.

Aha, wondered why there was no proper reviews yet, I assumed that Journos where handed units to review at the launch, but clearly has only just happened. Personally I need to read a few reviews before going for this or waiting for something like the Mate 9 or S8
Just for you to know, that video is online (and visible to everyone) since the 5th of October.

Indeed... But the phone of the video has nothing to do with those Pixels shipped in advance by the Australian operator which are the subject of the AP article linked.
(And the video in the first post as well has nothing to do with review samples being shipped)
Lighten up ,it's a thread about pixel phones being out there now for some ,but then the Aussie messed up and sent some out early ,so there you go ,it about phones out there now
