My S7 edge appears to have just died in my hands - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have an S7 edge duo factory unlocked. Bought it in july and i've been using it since then.
Earlier today I was using it when it seemed to freeze up for a few seconds and then just turned off. I haven't been able to turn it back on. Even plugging it into the charger is doing nothing. I also tried using the wireless charger. The charger itself acts as though it's charging the phone but the phone itself doesn't respond in any way.
I've tried holding down the power button for a minute. I've also tried popping the SIM card out as well as making a phone call to the phone. None of it does anything.
Any other suggestions before i call samsung?

NM - power and volume down for 10 seconds got the phone to restart and it seems ok now

Happened to my S7 edge yesterday, exactly the same thing. Just appeared to turn off but if I called it then it rang out on the other phone. Plugging it in didn't even produce the charging LED. I googled it and it's a common thing apparently, the fix being exactly what you did

That's strange can you download cpu-z and screenshot your soc also goto settings>about device>software info and screenshot shot that as well like how I did
Maybe it's because of a system update a fault with the firmware to one or few specific regional updates

AT&T S4 no boot up

Hello. One of my friend have been having trouble booting up his at&t galaxy s4 just now and asked me for help
But I do not know what the problem is so we need help
phone cannot turn on, can show s4 screen after take out battery, but no boot animation and instant black screen afterwards
cannot do hard reset, nothing comes up
usb debug was not on, adb debugging can't find device to reboot bootloader
phone not rooted
no update recently, on kitkat 4.4 stock
does anyone have an idea what happened and how to fix it?
thank you in advance
bump
I think the phone just died on him and you can't fix it. If you have the same device take your battery and use it in his device. Maybe you get lucky and it's just the battery.

I found http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...battery-then-turns-off-after-two-seconds.html. It suggests cleaning the power button. It helped me. There should be YouTube videos to show you how to take it apart. I took the phone apart and put alcohol on the power switch with a q-tip. The, work the switch quite a few times. I repeated this 3-4 times before reassembling my phone.

Dead motherboard?

Got a couple s4s that won't do anything. ..won't even show the Samsung splash screen for its entirety. ..switched batteries no luck....what's causing them to seemingly fail?

Could you provide some additional information? How did you acquire these S4's? Do you know their history? Were they non-functioning when you got them? Can you put them into download mode. Have you tried flashing stock firmware?
One I bought myself the other was brought to me by a customer. Mines was working fine root with safestrap, nj4...idk about his but both experience the same symptoms. Won't turn on with the Power button. Nor charge when plugged in. Will only attempt to boot when battery is inserted. Mines would show the Samsung custom padlock, his the original Samsung s4 logo. Both shut off before the logos dissappear on their own.

None won't make it to download or recovery mode..I even charge the batteries in this working s4 I'm using as we speak so I know the batteries are good.

There's not much you can do yourself if you are unable to get the phones into download mode. Normally, when there is some sort of life in the phone, such as seeing the logo, etc, then it is recoverable. But you need to get into download mode.
I don't know the S4 very well as I've never had one apart, but on the SII the power button is soldered onto the mother board. On the SII, the symptoms of a failed power button include the exact symptoms you describe on your phones, the power button ineffective but boots when battery inserted. That could be similar on the S4 I suppose. Also, the fact you can not get into download mode or recovery mode, both of which require the power button, suggests that the button is faulty.
I was unable to find a replacement part for an S4 power switch with a quick search, or any info. You might look into a service like mobiletechvideos.com. They offer power button repair for the S4 for $40.00. I can highly recommend Jeff Groce, the owner.

My S4 is having this same issue. It's the power switch. You can try opening the phone and cleaning it with a cotton swab and alcohol, pressing the switch to make sure it gets any debris out of the switch. Otherwise, it may be possible to try pressing the button a few times, then remove and put the battery back in. If it doesn't turn on automatically, plug it in while holding volume down, and then hit cancel when download mode comes up. It will boot and run fine as long as you don't press the power button.
It takes many tries to get it to start like this, and it may be easier to just remove the switch from the board. There are definitely replacements available, I've seen a video of someone replacing it but it requires soldering tools of course.
took the ****in button off im as good as gold...may i recommend gravity screen for those with screw power buttons? put that gyroscope to work ppl.

Glad you got it working. I have gravitybox installed so I just set long presses of menu and back to Power Menu and Sleep respectively. Works great for me.

This happened two days ago with my wife's S7 Edge. She was using it to text me about dinner plans after work, her screen shut off, and it wouldn't work for several hours. The thing was getting very hot. When she was home and charging the phone the screen started working again for a little while, but with several green stripes down the right edge snd aa flashing horizontal band of grey near the top overlaying the screen image. Then when I tried plugging it into my computer to use Samsung's Smart Switch to roll back from the update she had accepted while at work the screen died again. It has not come on since, not even the stripes, and blue or red LED lights once in a wwhile at random. I managed to use Smart Switch to wipe the phone's memory. Then the program took several hours to download something very slowly and install that - a whole new OS update? That completed, and now the charging LED works correctly and the green stripes and grey band are back, flashing rapidly when powering on. Otherwise no screen function.
She is now trying to find a new phone, but definitely NOT a Samsung. This S7 Edge has already had the screen replaced once, just before the first year warranty ran out, as it did almost the same thing - in March the green striping (plus pink) appeared along one edge and the battery was running out very fast, the phone overheating so much that she found it uncomfortable to hold. We argued with Samsung a lot until they replaced the screen. Something is VERY wrong with this model. She's considering an LG. What a waste of money. One would expect a thousand dollar phone to last longer than this.
I am facing what I think to be the same issue with my son's phone. Green line down right side edge. Screen turns on for a second, then black screen. It's on, but can't do anything. Did you find a fix for this?
No. Today I gave up and took my wife's S7 Edge to the authorized repair centre. They say they'll run a diagnostic for $25, and if the screen needs to be replaced it will cost $385. Brilliant. If this thing gets fixed I will be running custom ROMs on the phone, probably an RR, as it seems Samsung's OTA updates kill phones.
Turned in out the authorized repair centre for our region, Acura in Surrey, BC, went ahead with the screen replacement without our authorization. I specifically said in a note given to them at the time that they were to ask first. But they didn't bother. My wife decided she liked the phone enough to pay over $400 to get it back. It's been working for a few weeks now. Hope it stays working. At this point I have a strong feeling that the S7 Edge was a poorly made device, at least some batches. The reports of these screen failures are just too common.
Check if your screen still alive or maybe connected correctly, here is a way to do it:
1- plug it in your computer then start smart switch
2- dail *#7353#
3- you can now test any thing in your phone
4- search for the TSP
5- try now to touch your device screen
If it display in the computer that mean the touch is working but the screen is not
If the toch is not working you have to check the cables if its connected correctly inside your phone
But if you have warranty don't waste your time and let them fix it, and don't forget to backup your files

Hi...
What did you do to repair the device...? My s7 edge has the exact problem now... Pls help...
I am having the same problem...
Most likely motherboard is dead. Happened on my flat S7. Died during the night. Took to ASC and they told me motherboard needs to be replaced, at a cost of approx. 14k INR. Got back the device without getting it repaired. Paid 180 INR as inspection charges. My S7 edge is showing similar signs of sudden slowness and freezing, which was a precursor to my flat S7 going dead.

S10 Plus Possibly Hard Bricked?

Hi All,
I was trying to flash the latest firmware for my device (G9750ZCU2ASG4) and during the odin process, my computer restarted which failed the update halfway through. I rebooted the computer, tried again, and it was trying to establish a connection for a really long time, so I disconnected my phone from the USB port on my computer, and held Power and Volume Down to try and force reboot the phone. I was going to try and go back into download mode to restart the process. My phone mentioned something about needing to do an emergency recovery, but I continued to hold down the power and volume down keys and then everything went black on the phone.
I've tried multiple USB cords, all of the button commands known for the device, and have even tried to perform the emergency mode recovery on my device, but it seems like it's in some sort of locked state; What I mean is the phone is stuck on a black screen. I can't "boot" into recovery or into download mode. The phone doesn't even vibrate when I hold the power button or power and down to try and force reboot it. Odin doesn't recognize the phone when I plug it into the computer nor does the device manager on my windows computer.
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of issue or any idea of what else I can do to try and get into download mode to flash my firmware again? All help, suggestions, or comments regarding this are much appreciated.
Dead battery may be part of the problem
i had a similar problem with lg g3 some years ago, if your pc at least detects it as unrecognized device you might be able to use qualcomm drivers and some software to rewrite everything though i dont know if this exists for samsung. i think it showed up as qhsusb_bulk in device manager
It's basically soft bricked. You can use Odin and flash the official firmware and it should unbrick it.
The official route is to use emergency recovery in Samsung's Smart Switch software.

Yes use smart switch and emergency recovery.

Did you get this resolved? if so, how? My phone got bricked in the middle of update through Smart Switch. Black (seem to be off) screen. None of the key combinations work and when I plug the power cable nothing comes up. I have an appointment at Samsung service center but was wondering how you ultimately fixed yours

Hey man, unfortunately my phone was absolutely trashed and I had to get a new one entirely. Same symptoms as yours, no button combinations worked. I even tried to let the battery drain and charge to turn it back on and it failed. I guess now we know that there is definitely a way to hard brick this phone.

wow sorry to hear that. How did Samsung handle warranty? Mine got bricked in the middle of update through Smart Switched. The phone wasn't rooted or anything. Taking it to uBreakifix today.

Well, if you have a warranty and are unrooted, you're good to go. They should just replace it for you. However, I did not have a warranty as I have an international version, and I had to just eat my loss with a side of humble pie.

so took it ubreakifx as it was the only option on Samsung website when I clicked on service. It made me to make an appointment with ubreakifix but It turned out to be completely useless! They looked at it and said probably motherboard need to be replaced so advised me to call Samsung and send it to them for repair. Talked to Samsung and they sent me shipping label so now the device is with them for "repair". I wonder if they will send a replacement device or actually repair. Will report back in a week or so once I get it back
Got the phone back a few days ago. They replaced PMA motherboard and the phone is back to normal. IMEI remained the same. No cost to me as it was covered by warranty
@elliwigy I kinda wonder if since the board was replaced and your IMEI is still the same if there might be something left behind from the engineer firmware that would help with gaining root. Im guessing it was probably fully wiped but who knows.

Same issue as you guys. Odin update failed and gave me the "recover via Smart Switch" language. Hold down power to restart the phone and screen wouldn't light up again. Cannot believe how fragile Samsung phones are. No actual recovery mode
Do you not get Updates like us with carrier phones on an Unlocked phone?? Never use Smart Switch for Updates.
I like to flash mine with unlocked firmware and never bother with carrier stuff. In any case, I am at the Samsung 837 store in New York because that’s a hard brick. Samsung say they replaced the screen, board, and battery under warranty
