That happened with the previous update I got. The g2 which i had before this phone was so freaking good and it's the reason I got the g5. Now that I have it I regret buying it. My next phone will probably a OnePlus or an iPhone (ew, I know).

Yeah, I came from a G3. The ROMs and support on the device were incredible, and I expected the same on the G5, just with better hardware. Shame. I will probably just buy a used G3 and stick with it. Mine had no problems other than that I cracked the screen and the replacement had some quirks I couldn't deal with.

Rumor: All 3g xooms will get 3.1 update by Friday 3/13 EST

I just got this from another forum:
"just got off the phone with Verizon... all 3g versions will get the 3.1 update by midnight EST Friday."
Like the title says: just a rumor. I know nothing else. But it sets my mind at ease to know that I won't have to wait weeks. I'll stop doing the hourly update thing and just let it happen (OK, I might do it again, but not as often...). Can't wait to have resizable widgets and mouse support!
Google are doing a few things right in following apples lead when it comes to announcing updates and releasing updates on the same day, but as someone who lined up on launch day for my Xoom, and who still hasn't got an update it is still terribly frustrating...
Yes their are options for people who just cannot wait, and I understand that OTA updarea have to be managed to for load/ capacity reasons but I almost think the best solution is an either or solution. OTA update or for those that can't wait then an official tethered update....
I wanted to be able to go to work today with an updated Zoom, and stick the update in the apple fan boys eye

oh, man. i thought i am obsessed with my xoom
Do anyone know about the European 3G update?
I guess "3G" for Verizon is not WCDMA, its EVDO.
As someone who also purchase their xoom on launch day and has yet to receive the update, I am equally as frustrated. The load/capacity argument however seems weak with the small number of xooms sold to date. If they can't support that number...
Sent from my Xoom
frustrated here also. Got mine 9am the first day they had them available. No update yet for me this morning. Tried setting date ahead, it did check but nothing new.
Just curious, has anyone with a deactivated 3G Xoom actually received the OTA?
Some postings across several forums refer to the fact they only got the OTA after they activated their service with Verizon.
It seems suspect to me that that would be the case since any deactivated device I had with Verizon still received updates through WiFi (my OG droid and the last update (3.0.1) for the Xoom as examples).

I haven't received one yet. But if I do I'll post on here. Because I bought mines from a local shop brand new and never activated any 3G.

D801/TMO: still no 5.x OTA

I am actually reasonably happy with stock LG.. but haven't gotten the OTA yet (TMO in the US).. I did get this phone from ebay (the $200 sales over the past few months)... every indication is that the phone was legit.. came loaded with all the expected TMO apps...
but here I am several weeks after the OTA was released.. and no indication of an update for me.
Would prefer to use the OTA so I don't lose my data.
Am I at the point where I should conclude some intervention is needed to get the update?
Does the com.android.framework trick work on the G2?
thanks,
Mike
I bought d801 on ebay just like you at around $200. Got OTA 3 days ago, so i guess it will get to you anytime soon.

Mate 9 purchased through Bestbuy.

How many people that purchased through Bestbuy have received update. Just wondering if they're holding back the update so u purchase the mate 10.

The first person I seen on any website said they bought there's from Bestbuy so that not the problem really I think it's no infrastructure to push to many people at once.

[Q] How is V20 support from LG?

Hi all,
I'm considering buying a used V20 for ~$150 for my teenage sister-in-law. That said, I have absolutely no experience with the phone. I've read plenty of reviews but those were all from when the phone was released. Would anybody mind giving me the down-low on update support and expectations with official LG firmware? I don't want to give her a rooted phone (mostly because I don't want to provide tech support for it).
Would I be wise to buy this for her at this price or should I look elsewhere, perhaps at a Moto G5 Plus or one of the newer budget phones coming out this spring? I'm probably looking for this to be a 2-3 year phone for her, even if security updates only last another 1-2 years.
Thanks!
This phone will not get security updates for another 2 years -- MAYBE a year, no matter the model.
It is a great phone if you root it, but you said you don't want to do that. The only way you are going to get really good battery life is either get a bigger battery (and deal with the bulge), or root it

Dude, the next security patches for our V20 will be available on late May. Or June. Or July at worst. What are you talking about. XD :silly:
And is May or June over a year away? Did I fall into some alternate dimension? It is close enough so let's call this April. This phone will not receive any more updates after April 2019. How do I know this -- history. LG just doesn't change.
-- Brian
Anyway, LG (or pretty much any manufacturer nowadays) has a record of releasing 2 major updates for its flagship devices. Since it came out with Nougat, I guess it should receive P next year (because LG )
Not much idea about security patches though, might last around 2-3 years. Then again, the amount of security patches you receive heavily depends on the variant you have. US carrier variants seem to be getting patches recently, while on the other hand, my unlocked US996 is still stuck on December 2016 patch (while my Galaxy Note 4 is on August 2017), and the lastest one is Dec 2017.......

I seriously don't know whether you are being sarcastic or not, really
The V20 will probably receive Oreo in May anyway, which is why I said that.
Although I can agree that LG is terrible when it comes to patches. I mean, from 2016 to 2017, I've only seen a single patches for my US996, which is Dec 2017, A.K.A the one I am downloading right now. Since mine is stuck on Dec 2016 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you think this phone is getting P you have not owned very many LG devices. The V10 got Nougat because a big stink was made, but it was a crap build, riddled with bugs.
The V10 was released on Oct. 2015 with Lollipop. Marshmallow was released on Oct. 5 2015. Most models got their update to MM on or around April 2016. Finally (after much community outrage) they released Nougat for some models in July 2017. BARELY two years of support.
The V20 was released on Sept. 6 2016 with Nougat. Oreo was released on Aug. 21 2017. Finally some V20 models will get Oreo around April 2018.
So let me get this straight, you really think that LG is going to give this phone three years of support and supply Android P?!? LOL
-- Brian
It Is going to get P probably(every flagship gets two major updates).
Although, I do agree that the amount of time they need to release it is just.. well, I should behave.
Then again, I am coming from Nexus line..

Considering getting LG V20...but

Hi. I currently own a G3 D855 (AT&T thru Tracfone). I've really liked this phone but I've never had so many problems with a phone before. I got my first one in January and I'm already on my fifth one. I keep getting the bootloop problem. I just replaced the motherboard for the 3rd time on July 6 and it died on me yesterday. Must have been because I left it in the truck yesterday. Wasn't all that hot, but I know heat kills these phones fast. At least the seller I ordered from is going to let me return the board. However, I got the phone working again by leaving in the freezer a couple hours this morning. (Last board I used a heat gun and it worked for about 2 weeks. So I don't expect it to last this time either.) Now the thing about it is that when this phone works it's the best phone I've ever owned, but I can't keep replacing it every month. So I was looking at a used V20 H910, but I've got a couple questions about it.
1. I know that the G3, G4 and V10 had major issues with the motherboards. Did LG finally fix this for the V20? I've heard some people say that the V20 also suffers from this, but others say that it's not widespread.
2. Does the H910 variant have the FM Radio? This was the only reason I got the D855 instead of the D850.
3. I'm guessing the V20 has the UX 5.0? Is there any way to revert back to UX 4.0? If one is available, installing a custom ROM shouldn't be any trouble. All the G3s I had I've run Fulmics 4.1. I really can't stand UX 5 so this is also a big deal for me.
4. Will I lose wireless charging capability? I only used it once with my G3, so it's not the end of the world if I lose that feature, but just wondering.
I'm about ready to never buy another LG product again after this, but I've looked at the other phones I keep going back to LG because the style and features. Just wish they'd figure out how to make something reliable.

Motherboard issues have been reported but I don't think it's as widespread as those earlier phones. The 910 does have fm radio. No roms with ux 4 that I have seen. The v20 doesn't support wireless charging.

Ok. Thanks. I've been looking around and I saw some themes that improve the look of UX 5. I think I'm going to go ahead and get one.
