Contacts sync issue with 3 Axon 7's - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

So my first Axon 7 (grey) was working fine and great, however it had vibration problem and a bad charger that came in the box, so I had to send it back.
My 2nd Axon 7(gold) and 3rd one (grey) are both suffering from performance issues and battery drain due to near 100% cpu load all the time. At first i thought it was a hardware issues, so I sent the gold one back. And I am troubleshooting it one the grey one now.
I updated to B27 and also did a factory reset multiple times, but this issue won't go away.
android.process.acore is causing my CPU to stay around 100% all the time. The cuplrits included in this package are
i) Contacts
2) Call log/backup restore
3) ContactsStorage
4) User dictionary
all of these are system apps that are somehow related to contacts syncing. Please help me. I tried all i can and it's driving me nuts. I already returned my Note 7 and this is my third Axon 7 phone after that. I don't know what else to do.
Thanks

Can you help? When I received the phone it was on B20, immediately updated OTA to B27. I am trying to see what I can do. I rooted and installed Xposed just now without unlocking the bootloader.
Will this issue be solved if I reflash the ROM?

I was going to say something like that LoL, you can backup current configuration and head over my Full Stock Update thread and download only StockSystem file, wipe data ,cache, dalvik ,system and flash that zip using TWRP. see if that helps.
P.S. how you manage to get root with B27 lock bootloader?

Step 1 : DO A BACKUP TO YOUR SDCARD ( Don't do it in Internal Storage).
Step 2 : WIPE Data ,Cache, Dalvik and preferable SYSTEM
Step 3 : Flash B27 stock system.
You won't mess up something so simple,

Already tried that, but no use.

I had this exact same issue. Tried most of the things on this thread with no luck.
Eventually realized I had almost 4k contacts on my Google Contacts (ton of emails saved in Google Contact). I went to Google Contacts (through Gmail) on a desktop browser & deleted all the contacts that I didnt need (check out the old view for GOogle Contacts - it has a separate list of unused contacts which you delete).
After this, clear your Data on "Contacts Storage" under Apps in Setting. Now re-sync your contacts, and you're good to go. I spent almost 2 days fixing this issue. But all good now.

I was going to try this eventually. Though I have only around 600 contacts.

have problem with contacts too on Axon 7, my contact is added with name and surname, but when this person call to me it display only it's phone number.
The same is in textra sms app, cantacts conversations are showed with phone numbers not person names.
is any way to fix this, on my previously HTC 10 didn't have any similar issues?

Same problem. Some contacts are shown with just a number during calls or textra sms. Must be a bug. Hope they will fix it...

but is any e-mail to ZTE support to let them know about this issue?

I also had same issue. contacts were not syncing properly. i have 1300 contacts. i was just enabling sync for 10-15 minutes then again disabling for 1 minute then did it repetitively . it took me about 36 hours to sync all my contacts. (yes i was on B27).

I see that all my contacts has been synced with gmail, but still on receiving calls and in textra saved contact are presented with their phone number
slowly consider to sell this great phone because of software bugs ;(

Hi,
I am using the Chinese A2017 & having contacts syncing issues with google account as well my office exchange email ID. Can anyone tell a fix?

I recommend backing up your phone and then wiping it and doing a clean install of 10.2
Is it only me? does anyone else have the same problem?
I understand a clean installation may fix the problem; but I am trying not to do that due to time consuming before and after every clean installation. Normally, take me a whole day to go through settings and home screen layouts.
By the way, I cannot revert back to CM10.1 through settings-CyanogenMod Updates; screen stays on loading icon forever. Any ideas?

Use Helium. Then you can back up your settings, Launcher settings, text messages, ect, apps included if you want to your Gdrive, wipe, re-install and then just download Helium and pull it back down. It takes me about 4 minutes to back up my settings for:
Touchdown
Airdroid
Launcher
WiFi settings
Messaging
Chrome
G+
Keep
Voice
Skype
Hangouts
Then I wipe and flash a new ROM + Gapps (5min, if that), pull down Play Store update + Apps that I want to put back on my phone(about 7-10min), and then restore my settings(about 5min). I'm ready to go in maybe 25 minutes with the exact same setup I had before I started
It will take longer if you are backing up music, games and a lot of images too, but I have all my photos auto-upload to my G+ so I don't worry about backing those up, and my music is in the Play Music so I just thumbtack the ones I want to keep as i come acorss them again.
You need to update to the latest radio. Flash a 4.3 image with fastboot, then unlock, root, etc.
Sent from my Nexus 4
AND flash the latest Gapps: http://goo.im/gapps
if you are using lte, then you need one of the hybrid radios. if not, then the newest radio.
... too late to know all these and the Helium...
In the afternoon, I used titanium backup; and did a clean install of the cm10.2; same problem...no phone call; then I did a clean install of a old cm10.1; it works now!!!
when I am so excited to use titanium to recover my apps.... no backup file available... only .properties files in the folder.... zip files are missing.
I've lost all my app data and everything... until now, I am still trying to recover what I could remember...

[Q] Phone Errased after Lollipop Update

Hello there, i've looked up the forum but havent foung anyone with a similar problem, which I was hopping it was going to be general.
I updated my note 3 from kit kat to lollipop yesterday, which was working just fine after the update. But around 3 hours ago I could not get a signal from my carrier, even though everyone elses phone was working just fine. So i tried rebooting my phone and after it restarted 80% of my apps werent there. I have only a few apps now but most of my downloaded apps are simply not showing, although it looks like from the storage windows that my data was not erased. Even though they are not showing in the "downloaded apps"" section I would have way more free space if they were indeed deleted.
Even stock apps are broken. Like my goodle services are missing and a lot of those stock apps that come with your phone and you cant delete are not there. PLus all my contacts are lost, my messesges are gone, but I have all my photos. This is really weird.
Another informations is that Im currently not using an micro sd memory card, so All my stored information and apps were running on my 32gb memory within the note 3 itself.
Ill reply as soon as I can to any questions or useful information.
I have tried rebooting it a few times and looking up online to see if anyone else has had a similar problem. If anyone can help Ill be very gratefull.
Thank you all in advance !
more information
HI, another usefull information is that whenever i reboot my phone theres a black screen that says "android is upgrading.........starting apps" then after a few seconds it goes to my lock screen but still a lot of my data is missing.
Safe mode maybe?

This happened coz you didn't factory reset/Wipe data the phone when you installed Lollipop. Do it and your phone will boot normally.

Yeah better. Copy all your internal data to your pc (music, photos, contacts are linked to your google account). Factory reset your device (Settings > Accounts > Back Up and Reset > Factory Data Reset > Reset Device > Delete All/Erase Everything) and take a look how your device works.

Google Keep, Calendar and Reminders notifications not working on Android Oreo.

Hello guys,
I've noticed this issue this week. I'm not receiving any notifications from Google Calendar, Keep and Google Now reminders, and this is a pretty big problem for me, as I rely a lot on Calendars for my organization.
I formatted the phone after receiving the Oreo OTA and the phone is full stock.
Anyone know how to fix this issue?
Thanks!

Did you mean you did a factory reset from recovery instead of format? You have to be unlocked to fastboot format partitions... but it is the best way to wipe your phone if you are.
What is your build number under Settings>>About Phone (at the very bottom)? If you are indeed stock (including recovery), the only thing I can think of would be to first wipe the cache partition from recovery. If your build number ends with .017 then you can also sideload a full OTA of build .019, also from stock recovery. Options are limited unless you are unlocked and have a custom recovery. Note the process of unlocking the first time will factory reset your phone and wipe userdata, so make sure your stuff is backed up.

When you go into Settings>>Users and Accounts>>Google>>Account Sync ... are there failed or hung syncs? Now do a manual sync and see if any hang. If you see old time stamps there and they won't refresh manually, you can REMOVE ACCOUNT and then ADD ACCOUNT. I would try this regardless. Are you bootloader locked?

There was no failed or hung syncs but I removed and added my account again anyway.
I'm afraid that this issue is bacause of the Doze feature. If I create a test event to notify in 5 minutes, it works, but I have to wait to see if it will notify my real events.
My bootloader is locked.

If what you suspect is correct, thousands of other users would be actively complaining of such a major issue, and not just N6P users.... every Nexus/Pixel phone running 8.0 already. That's a lot of phones. Doze works better than ever on 8.0 for 99.9% of regular users. Sometimes you just have to wipe the phone and start over from a clean slate. Unlocking your bootloader would allow you to use Google's purpose-based script and full image to restore your phone to a like-new state. That or you will have to live with it and wait until the next full OTA image is posted next month. I don't mean take the small incremental OTA, I mean sideload the full OTA image from Google's Dev site. They are about ~1 GB in size.

My phone is already on the last OTA and I wiped it twice, is it going to make a difference just trying again?
I found this post: https://productforums.google.com/fo...utm_source=footer#!topic/calendar/FzD9Y6ojci4
Theres a reply by Mikel Rodriguez that says:
"The cause of the calendar notifications failure is a change in the architecture of the calendar provider module. It is a content provider located at the application framework layer. Supposedly they changed the architecture of the module because it wasn't compatible with the doze feature of Marshmallow. So, all phones running Marshmallow or higher are fully affected by the failure. The only solution is to root, install titanium backup, make a backup of package com.android.providers.calendar, then uninstall it, then download and install the same package for version 5.1.1 (Lollipop). Because that version is not compatible with doze, it is necessary to remove it completely. Download "Boeffla Doze Control", open it and turn on "disable doze at start up" and "show toast message", then reboot, then open it again and check that doze status is off. That means that doze is not working. Calendar notifications will work again if you follow all the steps."
I don't know how much of this is true, but there's quite a lot of people with the same problem. Maybe there's some app that is conflicting with the notifications?

Taking a 40MB incremental OTA over the air and then doing a factory reset of your device is not the same as sideloading a 1GB full OTA image. Both of which you can do locked with stock recovery, but you can only sideload a newer build OTA (without some editing of the install script). If the full OTA image doesn't correct your problem, there is no further recourse but to unlock the phone and use the Google tool to restore your phone. As I said earlier a locked bootloader severely limits your options. I'm not suggesting you root the phone, I'm saying unlock it so that you are then able to properly format the partitions and install a full image.
I read the post and maybe that would work as a kludge. Sounds reasonable for a guy already rooted and has TiBu like me.... but would probably be overkill for someone like you starting with a locked bootloader. If you put that forward to prove that tons of people have the same issue, it fell short. I say live with it until the next OTA image is posted, DON'T take the over the air incremental and sideload that full OTA. Then if it doesn't work, unlock and flash a full image.

I'll wait for the next OTA then, and if it doesn't fix I'll try formatting and restore it with the Google tool you said.
By the way, I didn't received a incremental OTA. I live in Brazil, so the update arrived later here, I received it 2 weeks ago and was a 1GB download and I haven't received any security or incremental updates since that day.
I set an event and it'll remind me in 2 hours, I'll let my phone down and will not use it to see if the nofication will work, if it doesn't, I'll try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.github.quarck.calnotify&hl=en

Wow yes you are right, I have it turned on in photos just like you.
Like you when I go to backup it checks and reports off, then I find it off in photos and have to turn it back on?
I think it only turns off as a result of looking in settings as I have never found it off before?
BTW, how did you get SMS in your backup? I use an app for that, did not know you could get google to do it? I can't see where to turn it on though.
Google updated the Google Photos app and it's working now.
There is no settings in Android to enable backing up sms. Android just backs them up. But I believe more SMS Backup & Restore or Titanium Backup.

Did you do factory reset after upgrading to Oreo? If not, this could be the problem. You can do factory reset now(backup all important files, factory reset will wipe your phone). I did it shortly after upgrading to Oreo and it solved some of my problems I had after upgrading.

@kudos1uk @freekarol
I was googling it a long time ago and found out that even google pixel users are complaining about SMS backup. SMS backup process is triggered only if the phone is fully charged and does not has any activities for about an hour or so. Therefore, if you will leave the phone connected to charger overnight, there will be a high chance that in the morning you will find out that SMS had been backed-up. However, there is a simple workaround to force backup all in once. You can enable USB debugging, connect phone to PC and type this in cmd shell:
Code:
adb shell
bmgr backupnow --all

8.1 - lost data after update

I am 100% stock, did the update earlier and I now can't get any data (2g, 3g or 4g) wifi is fine but I just can't get any data.
I had data turned off during upgrade and after upgrade I noted it was turned on again, not sure what to do now.
Update, not only was my SMS history deleted by the update, my APN settings were also deleted, inputting them again sorted my data.

I can't not help you. Just can say I updated yesterday and I'm not experimenting any issue. However you may change the post tittle. My updated was as follows:
Previous:
Set magisk core mode -> Uninstall xposed SDK26 module -> Restore boot.img
Update:
Update -> Patch boot.img with magisk -> Reboot -> Everything fine
After update:
Enable magisk -> Reboot -> Bootloop -> Boot into TWRP and flash magisk uninstaller -> Reboot -> Everything fine -> Boot into TWRP and flash magisk -> Reboot -> Everything fine -> Install xposed SDK27 module and unified hosts adblock -> Reboot -> Everything fine till now
Goods founds after update to 8.1:
Camera lag using magisk solved -> Fixing module not needed anymore
GCam working without enabler module -> Module not needed anymore
Swipe FPS for notifications come back -> Find under settings, gestures
Native dark theme -> Substratum not needed anymore
Also found update is not available for everyone. My mothers one full stock system is not receiving. I attached images with my setup.
Hope my info is useful for someone.

Yep,the pulled the update looks like, maybe bcs that sms bug.
Tried to update mine but i got a wifi problem so i restarted my phone, after i restarted it, it's gone
also lost SMS messages using the standard magisk OTA update way. luckily had a daily automatic backup setup using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
Lost all my SMSes after updating to 8.1.0.

My last SMS backup is of Oct 2017 when I changed over to Mi A1. What are my options to recover these messages, if at all?! Thanks

Don't think you have much of an option.
The only thing you could check is to see if google is backing up your sms's
See here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/help/google-photos-backup-off-t3810065
Some A1's are backing up as part of Google's backup..... but....... you can't manually restore the backup, the only way would be to reset the phone and let it pull the SMS's down as part of the setup. Or maybe if you have a spare phone you could restore it with the A1's google backup, then use SMS Backup & Restore app to make a backup, then push the backup to the A1 (long winded but would work).
If your phone is backing up SMS's you would also need to check when the last backup was, if it has backed up since the update your backup might be replaced with what is on your phone..... ie nothing.

Also you might wanna change your title from "lost data" to "lost mobile connectivity".
