Hello everyone, I'm new to xda, so I'm sorry if I messed anything about this thread up.
I have my European Axon 7 for a few weeks already and, besides a few rather tiny complaints, am generally quite happy with it. Would still be nice if there were any known fixes or at least some assurance that ZTE does know about these:
First, I noticed small artifacts when taking pictures of bright, yellow objects. Artifacts are reproducible but idk if any other colours are affected. (looking a bit like tiny infinite-symbols, pic link:

A fix from ZTE would be quite nice, fortunately it isn't that bad unless one pixel peeps or looks at a pic on his TV screen.
Then, second, if I have the option activated that wifi is to go into standby when the screen is off, it does deconnect, but never reconnects unless I turn it off and on again. Issue has been on the last OS version afaik.
Third, I've had three random reboots so far, Idk if there are any apps known for causing instability on this device, but rn I have no hints as to what might be causing this. (also many apps crash the first time I start them after installing, running just fine afterwards.
Any help and/or advice is highly appreciated.

To me that and the random reboots sounds like you have a device with Bad Memory. If you have NOT rooted your phone and applied any third party tweaking apps such as "L Speed Mod" or "Fly-on Mod". If you have. Then these tools tend to create those random reboots.
I'm running my A2017G with average usage and heavy stress testing since a week without any of those affects.

Oh dang, I hope not, dont wanna have to send it in.
I don't have any such mods applied. Also I have had my phone for maybe a month and only had 3 of these reboots, so idk but maybe a heavy rare bug?

In your case I would run a stress test. Use any of the heavy benchmark apps (Antutu, CPU Benchmark, etc) and run them multiple times.
Don't worry about the score or the phone getting warmer (CPU will be throttled at some point).
But look out for a sudden reboot or crash.
Those are usually caused by bad RAM.

Sooo reporting back, I've done 9 runs, 5 browser ones, single core and multi core twice each as well. No crashs, no lags, nothing.
I downloaded an app called Visions of Chaos which does nothing but render Fractals and OpenGl shaders. If anyone could test on his device if e.g. the performance tanking shader "Sample Long Slender Flexible" (among the first 20 OpenGl Shaders) at max resolution(0.5) makes the Axon 7 crash or not that'd be great as I don't know if that's the normal behaviour(mine crashes everytime).

There appears to be a problem with my accelerometer. It started to notice it when playing Homerunbattle3d. A few days ago, the motion was smooth. It was very fluid
Now, the motion is very jerky.
I tested the accelerometer using 2 bubble level programs as well with the same result. The bubble moved around with a jerky motion.
Is there a setting for accelerometer somewhere?
I'm not sure if my accelerometer is defective or if I messed up a setting somehow.

Download android sensor data from the market.. run it. And try again. Definitely a software bug or this app wouldn't fix it.
I run it after every restart.. seems to calibrate the sensor.. its smooth as can be when fixed...
Can't believe more people haven't complained about this...
Man, it's something new every day with this phone, huh?
I hadn't even gotten into gaming performance / accelerometer issues. I've been stressing out over 3G reception / GPS and Compass being completely and 100% broken. One more thing to worry about with the ever-nearing Buyer's Remorse period running down...
I guess I'll go download some tilt games and see what happens. I'll report back with my findings.

try the homerunbattle3d both fun and great to test also the bubble level tool aswell
and thank you for recommending the accelerometer data thing it really help fixed the problem completely
I guess I should rephrase:
Any free games I could grab to test this?
I got PapiJump, and immediately noticed that something wasn't right.
I just finished wasting my time proving to some jack-off that there is an issue with 3G reception. Upon exiting SpeedTest, I put the screen to sleep and downloaded PapaiJump on my iPhone.
The controls worked perfectly, so I loaded up the Android version again, just to see if it was still wonky. Oddly enough, it controlled just as well as the iPhone version. I don't know if it somehow re-calibrated itself somehow, but the initial run was not a good sign: 'Papi' would constantly fly to the left, regardless of my input.
I guess I'll keep an eye on this issue and see if it was just a fluke for me.

This is the over statement of the day. How is 3G, GPS and Compass 100% broken? Granted some people are having some issues but its not as bad as you're saying. I have no issues with 3G and GPS. Sounds like you have a broken phone.
This is kind of off-topic, but then again, so was your rebuttal.
Really? Your GPS is flawless and 100% accurate without wireless networks and WiFi? I've had two phones now, with exactly the same issues. Google Maps thinks I'm in another city, and satellite lock takes ~5 minutes.
As for 3G reception problems...really? You don't notice anything?
Here I am, with what I would refer to as 'decent' speeds for my area. This is my phone, sitting on a table, with no human contact.

This is my phone, with only my index finger touching the device (propping it up with a single finger).
I guess it's possible that I might have two defective phones. I'm going to go ahead and say that it's unlikely. Feel free to replicate this test. As mentioned before: I'm using the silicon case with my device.
If you feel like debating this issue in another thread, feel free. Otherwise, let us get back to testing the rest of the equipment.
Are there any (free?) SixAxis games on the market, yet?

No free ones I know of.. and your speed drop is not normal. Most people lose bars not much speeds. I know I get awesome speeds even if bars drop and so do most people.. I'm not saying I don't believe you but 99% of people don't have that drop in speeds...
All in my opinion needing fixed is 3g bars how there's displayed, minor GPS fixes, fix compass, and now this accelerometer thing.. other than those I love this phone..

Should've stopped right there.
I have the same problem. And it was also with Homerun Battle 3D. Before finding this thread I would restart my phone, uninstall the app and not find any way to get rid of the issue. Android Sensor Data fixes it but I haven't tested it more than once.
I'm on the original rom that shipped with the phone. I have some lag but it hasn't gotten in the way too much. Anybody else having this problem?
So I just installed "the impossible game" on my brand new SGS2 and discovered there's some banding on the gradient in this game, which was not here with my Nexus One (AMOLED).
Has anyone else noticed that ? do you think it can be fixed later on (I know supercurio did some work on the first SGS's rendering) ?
edit : I'm only talking about the horizontal banding (the circular moiré is caused by the glass and visible only on the camera). Also I tried changing the brightness and background rendering but nothing helped.

Try checking the loading screen for the XDA app. It should be a nice gradient of brown but I remember it was HEAVILY banded on the Atrix.
Roger should chime in with more info on this =)
No need to use an app to test:
http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gradient.php
I find it hard to believe that they've gone through all that to make the best display in the field and then limited it to 16bit colors (I believe super amoled has 24bit?)
Phew, it's not just me! The two things I'm disappointed with on this phone are the screen issues and the battery life. Other than that, it's incredible.
Let's hope for major firmware upgrades and dev support!

Thanx for the link. And of course we don't need to test on an app, I just happened to notice on this particular game, and thought it was best to avoid comparing with the browser or gallery since they could be faulty themselves (the gallery used to cause banding on the Nexus One).
I really hope it can be fixed later... I keep reading the screen is fantastic, but it doesn't look so good now (maybe it's better than pentile Matrix though)
I don't have a SGSII but you are certainly not alone, I've read a lot about this banding issue - remember reading somewhere about the possibility that it may infact be 16bit at the moment.

heh well i'll give my unofficial opinion is that your nexus one is running the latest 2.3.3 GB which fixed the nexus one's 16 bit color banding issue. did that game show banding on your nexus one last year?
anyway my opinion theory is the super amoled plus screen is still not 24 bit color yet, probably only 16 bit like the n1 was. i cant prove this though, so take as you wish.
the nexus one on the XDA app, the spalsh screen showed lots of banding for all last year. after the 2.3.3 update the banding is finally gone on the nexus one. and google admitted that the 2.3.3 update finally brought the n1 up from 16 bit color.
so my guess is the new amoled+ wasnt finalized yet, like the n1 originally, so the SGS2 is only 16 bit color in its current firmware version.
Very disappointing, I'll stay away from the phone for now and I hope they'll fix this as soon as possible! I feared that something like this would happen when I saw the GLBenchmark data (or something like that, which stated that it's 16-bit anyway). Good to hear that the N1 had the same problem and it got fixed, though!

It really isn't that noticeable, you can't see it under normal use when you're holding the phone at a normal distance.
Totally liveable in the short run knowing that it will get fixed. From the speed and quantity of updates, I'm guessing Samsung's trying to repair the black eye they got for pretty much ignoring the SGS.

I disagree, it's very noticeable when you have any image that has a gradient. Every time I load up the XDA app, or fire up Stupid Zombies, it's right there plain as day.
Very annoying.
yeah. it's plain obvious. for that game, i have to set the quality to low, so that the banding disappears
omg, you got to be kidding me... even my android-loaded HD2, which is definitely suffering from a hardware limit of 65536 colors, shows less banding, much less shall I say, than this supposedly 16M colored monster?? :-(
this issue wouldnt stop me from keeping the SGS2. but there were lots of specific test images used on the nexus one to highlight the issue.
in fact here is the article with test images you guys can try on your SGS2. at the time of this article, the pentile pixel matrix was the highlight. but a year later the 2.3.3 update kinda proved that the banding was NOT related to the pixels, since its totally fixed now.
interesting read nonetheless.
http://www.displaymate.com/Nexus_One_ShootOut.htm
After testing a bit more, the photo I took in the first post is THE most obvious case of banding I could find. The gradient in xda, or the one at http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gradient.php are not perfect, but they don't look THAT bad.
edit : And yeah, it's not enough for me to return the phone, and I'd buy it again knowing that, but it's still annoying, especially since they insisted so much on the quality of the SAMOLED+ screen.
It's purely a software bug. I'm almost certain the physical display can handle these gradients.
On my Nexus One/S if I view that sunset on mars photo in the stock android gallery I get all that banding. If I use another gallery like QuickPic, no banding at all.
It's a similar bug when setting home page wallpapers. You get quite a bit of banding doing it the stock way, but using wallpaper set & save to set the background eliminates banding.
It's not the screen, it's the rom, the browser is set/capped to 16 bits. The gallery however actually displays in 24 bits.
This issue can be fixed with a custom rom, it's probably set to 16 bits to allow smoother web browsing, which is totally stupid because the processor is totally capable of handling smooth browsing with 24 bits display.
There is color cap in WP7, currently with some tweak my Focus does display 24bit color in Pictures hub but 16bit in any browser related app. You people may want to try more.
which is the least memory consuming? Can anyone who has flashed a ICS ROM post a Screenshot of their mem currently used in Settings? Or with any app...

Me too +1 here, its super fast, faster than ipad2 , and has whole lot of fun features now hope to see a stable version to play all the games
Here's mine just as a point of comparison. I'm running Thor's v96.
I have the face lock settings. But i am NOT using it. I set it up the flashed the acer ring. I like the lock screen ring over the face lock.. I hardly ever lock my tablet. I Think for the most part ics is great. the browsers are much lacking CHROME Will often end up dead at a black screen with more then a few tabs open with text tearing. Stock browers has artifacts and some tearing with the same text issues as chrome.. I think the issue is that acer does not have hardware acceleration tweaked correctly. if at all for applications. it seems the browsers are lagging not the os. as in the past it seemed to me it was android.

You are both correct. it only works. WELL KINDA WORKS.. do not get me wrong ITS MAD FAST Compared to stock honeycomb browser. Good words for the thread! I am aware of Androids operating techniques. I am looking for the rom that from boot runs on the least ram. With no apps going except required apps. Thus leaving more RAM for all of your other desires We are well aware(most) that we have a dual core tegra 2 tab with limitations since tegra 3 is about to drop into stores everywhere... we still have a powerful device and anyway I can free up some space from the start, I will take I like minimalist roms... as well as fully loaded. ICS is proving to be troublesome for random people and I want to be one of the ones that says, "Oh... no SOD here. Just smooooooth butter."

This is totally true . The screen shot i provided was Right after flashing the rom NO Email accounts set up. or nothing.
Android Os lets things sit in memory but sorta static it shows them taking up valuable ram. This allows them to use less cpu cycles to wake up PREVENTING Ram and cpu spikes. Thus using less resources and battery consumption. Yes i nknow techie guys this is not totally exact explanation but its a quick and easy one. With the basic concept.
I will add the above is the reason why task managers that Auto kill aggressively will fight with the android built in memory management. Thou they are good for trouble shooting apps that are rogue.
Sorry if this turned off topic just my screen shot being a fresh install was not totally accurate now im averaging 301 to 320s and it looks to be the average .

Interesting knowledge.
I'm probably not alone in watching this thread with interest...I'm looking forward to ICS, while admittedly happy with 3.2.1. I'm looking less at memory use than I am at stability; since moving to the almost-stock-yet-rooted Honeycomb, I've had close to zero problems I didn't create for myself.
For me, changing ROMs (I often wonder how the OS image got the nickname ROM, which means read-only and implies flashing to EEPROM to old guys like me) is something of a PITA, since there's much about stock Android I rip out by the roots (including Market, BTW, so everything on my tablet is sideloaded), which makes me want to do it once and get to the most stable. So for those of you brave enough to leap into ICS before us, keep posting those reports!

I currently am running Icylicious 4.0.3, works awesome. Really a lot faster then before, I was starting to get frustrated with the lag in between pages... but it's better now! Love the rom, nothing's really wrong with it. Fixed dhcp drop as well as a weird problem I was having with my headphone jack when I'd plug my headphones in (had honeyvillain kernel before.) But yeah works great now! No face-unlock that I could find, but didn't really want it anyway.

wow, such a grown up and not childish reply.
I starting playing golfstar which works the phone pretty hard. At first I noticed how much better the frame rate was compared to my s4, after about 5mins the frame rate went to crap. I can only assume the phone was throttling due to heat. I never got any warnings though
I dont have this problem at all. Was running antutu benchmark two times in a row yesterday with 100% brightness without auto activated, AND charging, and it reached 36C. And its about 27C in this room.

I starting playing golfstar which works the phone pretty hard. At first I noticed how much better the frame rate was compared to my s4, after about 5mins the frame rate went to crap. I can only assume the phone was throttling due to heat. I never got any warnings though

ya i think im going to the s5 or the nexus 5, it keeps happening, so im done.
Are you only having a problem trying to do a benchmark at high brightness or are you having problems with regular use? I use Lux for autobrightness and it's bright enough for me and I have no issues with over heating.
Also, I wouldn't downgrade to the Nexus 5 if you're giving up on this phone. Not saying it's a bad phone, but it's comparatively a downgrade. A G2 would be a better downgrade than that or side grade to the S5 or M8 or whatever it is the HTC phone is called.

it was during the bench. But i did a battery pull and ran 3 straight benchmarks with no overheating issues. But then i did the no lag trick and tried again with it powering down
So the next best device is the m8 you say?

I'd first suggest you just use the phone and not worry about the benchmarks. Benchmarks are meant to push the system so that could be why you're having problems. With daily use, even with the screen as bright as you have it, you may not notice any other issue. Give it a chance first.
And from reviews I've read, it does sound like the M8 is the next best. I almost considered it, but it's about the same size as the G3 with a smaller screen. Fortunately, I'm loving my G3.

My phone shuts down when reading books on the beach in Turkey. I think the heat sensitiviness is one thing the latest patch should fix , I hope
Mine's never dimmed but it gets warm enough such that it starts throttling back to ~1.6 GHz. Definitely not hot though.
ya i was playing a game and it was def getting pretty hot

The no lag trick, is no real trick, it turns off stuff to keep your device save from overheating, so, that's why it turned off afterwards.
I've kept the stock setting and never had any shutdowns or noticed any performance problems at games or dim, it gets warm sometimes at long gaming, but that's it.

Have you tried factory reset from start up screen not settings?
i got a different phone, from a different batch, the phone gets hot still, but not too hot and its not shut down yet. so far so good. great phone
If you are returning a phone because it will shut down during a benchmark, then why did you get the phone in the first place?

You are not alone. Mine can get very hot when playing games (especially when charging), and I have to stop game to cool it down.
The situation gets worse when dual layer case installed. I have to remove the case to cool the phone down.

I am sure mine does "thermal throttling".
When the phone gets hot, Quadrant goes down to 12,xxx.
When the phone cools down, Quadrant goes back to normal (23,xxx).

sorry, your question does not make sense.
I bought the phone because it had nice specs. i returned the phone because it was apparently defective. My new LG G3 has not overheated to shut down. got a little hot but not bad
I'm still wondering how are NOW the LG G3 are this moment? do they still have overheated issue?
How is the camera in 4k recording? is that fixed?

Introduction: Important shizz is underlined and in bold
So for the past 2 months I've been flashing away with my new V20. Of course one of the first things that I decided to do was to get a CM/LOS ROM on this bad boy. And thus is where the problems begin. Before I went to any of the AOKP or RRemix ROMs I went straight to LineageOS first as a base point. I installed it successfully did all the necessary procedures (format x3, wipe errthing x3) and then installed the ROM, gapps, and Magisk.
Average battery life with watching a total of 30 minutes of Youtube videos sequentially on my 15 minute breaks, texting throughout the day, and one hour of music playing from spotify (streaming) in the morning. My work is a pretty set schedule and by no means am I on my phone all day or anything like that. So with a total SOT (screen on time) of about 45 minutes I got 5 hours of battery life.
Yes I did a clean clean clean stock install of a Lineage based ROM
No I have no other apps running and draining my batteries
I really do not think its hardware related because it can be fixed!
How I tried to fix it
Now I try all the other ROMs. AOKP, same deal even with tweaking through Kernel Auditor on the Play Store, so I figured okay maybe just a fluke with these two ROMs. So I go and use previous builds of LOS and AOKP, nothing still the same issue. I go and use RRemix, same issue.
So heres the issue, 100% cpu usage while screen is on (cpus are maxed out on the little and big clusters) unless screen is off, then it goes into deep sleep, and the phone gets ridiculously hot which in turn drains the battery even faster.
Now at this point I'm so frustrated and had already settled on going back to stock until I downloaded Advanced Kernel Tweaker from an XDA post from the OnePlus forums. Its the same chipset (snapdragon 820) and tried applying different profiles. I got an extra hour using these tweaks but I still knew something was going wrong and I cannot figure it out for the life of me until I dug deeper reading posts about this stuff from several months ago and people having issues of overheating and an average of 5 hours of battery life
In one of the threads I read someone mentioned that it was just Kernel Auditor and its coding had been done in a way that was unoptimized. Because when your system detects you opening an app it boosts your little/big cluster in order to make up for the cpu usage so theres no lag. Well I thought okay I'll just use something else, so I spent money on EX Kernel Manager and by God, still the same issues, UNTIL, I hit the button at the top that is called performance mode.
BY GOD IT WORKED, HOLY CRAP MY CPU USAGE ISN'T JUST AT FULL USAGE
My temporary fix
So now, I am constantly in performance mode with using EX Kernel Manager but I have control over my cores!! And they are no longer at 100% usage.
Here are pictures of the new stats with EX Kernel manager and uptimes of my little and big clusters.

Little
New battery life on ONE CYCLE
ps. the stent of this cycle was 5/22/2017 15:00hrs to 5/23/2017 19:00hrs
Summary of the problem
So as you can see, there are all of the speeds being used instead of just the one of 1593MHz when performance mode is off. If people would like pictures of 5 hours of constant 1593MHz speeds I can show you them, but I really don't feel like wasting and overheating my devices battery for the purpose of just pictures. Heres a taste of it without perfomance mode on, by the way, the little speedometer gauge in the top right of this image is the performance mode.
Conclusion
So in conclusion, performance mode on using EX Kernel Manager, Advanced Kernel Tweaker scripts installed and using Project Zhana Battery profile, no more overheating and only getting 5 hours of battery life. YES this is a temporary fix but I hope arming XDA with this knowledge can push people and developers to find a fix. Thank you for your time reading this.
Meh. i dont have this issue. Seems like a problem with yours. Ive never had overheating issues :/ i just checked my Freq. usage. No issues. mine has24 hrs uptime with the following usage: 1593-59 min, 1478-20 min, 1401-15 min etc etc. you appear to be having issues on yours alone.

Thank you for your reply, are you on LS997? Also what ROM and if its just my device, how come even with CLEAN installs I have this persisting issue?
Yes I am on LS997. I run EmotionOS(Though i think i am on an unreleased build). You COULD have a faulty device.
EDIT: i see you state you are constantly at 100% usage. You need to check and see what app(s) are hogging the cpu. Something is obviously running if your phone runs hot and are at 100% usage.

I thought this too, so I did a clean clean clean install of a rom and ONLY installed monitoring software and I still had the same issue, but heres the thing that trips me out man, how come software can fix it if its a faulty hardware issue? Any ideas? It has to be kernel related.
The problem here is that you got the V20. LG phones are back to being garbage again...sadly.
