Hi, I just noticed that when I switch on my rear camera, it makes a clicking noise and I can see the lens move back and forth...is this normal?

I am not sure if this is the focusing sound though since it doesn't happen when focusing, simply when I switch on the camera, and the lens can be seen moving. I tried contacting Motorola about it but they seem pretty clueless.

It's normal. You can also hear the click when you turn on the flashlight.

Is it normal that my Nexus 7 makes a clicking sound/noise when I close camera applications or switch from the back to front camera?
I'd say so. Mine does it, I believe it's the mechanical focus lens returning to it's home position.
Also: is your front camera not aligned exactly in the center? Mine is more on the bottom right, still works perfectly.

Yes, that's how it is designed, so that when it's held in landscape (turned to the left) your hand won't cover the camera.

I'm talking about the actual lens where the hole is. Not the alignment of where it is on the screen.
The lens on mine is on the bottom right in the small hole.

In the hole where the camera lens is, is your lens placed not exactly in the center?
My lens in the whole is on the bottom right, doesn't effect camera though.

Apologies for the misunderstanding.
It is ever so slightly to the right of centre on mine. If the image quality is not impacted there is nothing to worry about.
Yes - my bad. Mine is placed on the top right - a bit off center. Yours is like that too?

Yeah it's slightly off centre.
I have the same sound on my N7, my Nexus 4, and I had it on my LG Optimus 4X HD as well so I sure do hope it's normal
I've seen them perfectly aligned and off centered, just the luck of the draw.
Regarding the noise, some are more prominent and others you have to put your ear near the tab to hear, but they all have some noise.
Hi XDA,
I just bought my Xperia Z2 yesterday and i went to the batch numbers topic and checked for Issues reported by people there. Fortunatelly i dinot have any issues but today i noticed the front camera quality was very poor. There is a Yellowish reddish tint that appears on the front camera however the back cover is fine. The picture is like thousand of small dots flicker on the screen and if i keep it very close to my face then i can notice it. If I click the Picture the picture seems to be completely fine.
Can any one of you please check and let me know if you are also facing this kind of Issue?

I took it to the service center and they said it a problem. He asked me to come tomorrow and they would update the firmware to a latest build and hopefully issue would be resolved otherwise they would replace it for me
ok so i got the same issue but i dont know if it is firmware of the camera problem , but the pic taken out is completely fine

Yes the finished picture is fine but while taking the picture it has a lot of noise. I have checked it with service center guys and they have called me tomorrow to update my firmware to see if issue is resolved otherwise they would replace the phone. However, talking to few people here in XDA it seems that noise issue is there with Sony camera and if the finished picture is fine it is not much of an Issue. So, I am thinking to get the software updated to latest build and then dont take replacement and keep using it.
What is the batch number of your phone ? Mine is 14w19

Of course it's an issue. It alters and creates an inaccurate preview. Why should it be flawed if the front is fine?

If you grab Front Camera Video it is also an issue because it uses the same Live-View as what you see on the screen.

Yes I agree. The video has hell lot of noise. But the picture comes out clear. I took the phone to service center and they reflashed the firmware and issue was still there. He told me he can replace the phone for me, but i refused as this is only the problem and i dont want to get a newphone which is of a different batch and has hell lot of other Issues.
Yeah, I've had this problem since I got the phone. I made a thread a couple weeks ago about it being an issue. I'm not updated to the current software, but I didn't think it would help, lol.
And it is very important to me as I'm a SnapChat whore in every meaning of the word, and, for some reason, the final image when taken in SnapChat is NOT made better as if it were taken with the Camera app.
I also have a 14w19, and I see what you mean. I don't mind so much as I don't use the front camera a whole lot (only with SnapChat, and the video quality isn't always the nest there anyway). I'm not bothered.
I'm bothered that for $700, the hardware and perhaps software in this case is so obviously flawed. I mean they really advertised the hell out of their camera prowess. But the front camera looks like the whole screen is dipped in sand.
It is clearly a software issue and I think it dosnt matter what batch you have, mine is 14W18 and in with really low light I have this issue but if there is some light left there is no problem at all and also the back camera did not have any kind of this issue in my case.
I'm sure that it's a software issue. Why else would the picture be correct after actually taking it with the built-in Camera app?

It's hard to tell what you mean exactly here. Are you saying the display on the screen has small dots on it or the picture it takes is not good.
is this something that comes across in a video chat or not as in the other person sees the same as well.
Can you post a screen shot so we understand better what you mean ?

Actually i wont be able to post a screenshot of it. I am talking about the front camera, when you start it the preview window that we see it is full of noise and it seems as if it has sand all over it. But the final picture is fine.

I have this too (and I suspect everyone does)
The front camera is quite simply not very good. The reason the captured image comes out slightly differently is most probably because it's a longer exposure (than realtime preview) and there's also some noise reduction in the post processing)
Guys I've noticed when recording a video and I focus on something close the focusing noise comes through when playing the video back. When I move away from the object I can hear the camera ree focus but the buzzing is not loud. The refocusing noise is only loud when I focus on something close.
How is the camera? Can you make with the camera close macro photo's?

I have not had that experience. I just tried it now in my office and I didn't hear any focusing noise. I went from focus on a wall about 10 ft away to a water bottle maybe 10 inches away and no focus sound.
The video was not made in total silence you could hear some people moving around in the background but it was pretty quiet.
I was super impressed with how quickly it refocused though!

The camera is very impressive. The auto focus is faster than my DSLR. The picture quality is better than any smart phone I ever had. There was a lot of talk about the lack of Image Stabilization but my last phone had stabilization and i often got blurry photos in low light anyway. The 6p gets crisper shots w/o the stabilization.
You can't really take "macro" photos w/o using a macro lens adaptor. You can get rather close though. I have found the auto focus will focus on things as close as 5 inches away (I measured it).
The autofocus can refocus from less extreme distances so quickly that you can't even really see it. It is almost instant.

I'm pretty sure that's the camera focusing. Not sure if it's software or hardware?
Is anyone else experiencing it?
I just took a couple of test videos and noticed that there is a slight sound when focusing. However, it's only discernible with the volume way up. At that point you're going to hear all kinds of other distracting/background noises as well (in my case the hum of the fridge and my fan). Not really a deal-breaker for me.

I'm pretty sure that sound is your hand moving the camera not the lens focusing.
It's definitely the autofocus. Put the phone next to your ear and tap to focus for a picture. You'll hear very fast clicks. My best guess is this is the laser firing repeatedly for laser auto focus. A diode firing can make a sound. Idt there is anything that can be done about this.

Hi Guys,
I purchased the Galaxy S7 Edge from Uae and now I am back in my hometown.
unfortunately my phone is only a month old and i just noticed that the front camera is misaligned by 1mm or so, you can see more of the black ring and the lens of the camera is more towards the right.
Although the camera works perfect and there are no problems, should i be worried?
I am extremely worried as the phone has no warranty in my country .
Mine is a bit misaligned as well. I wouldn't worry about it as long as it works as it should.

Thank God that is such a relieve as I don't have warranty support in my country and if i go to a service center they are known to rip customers off by selling unwanted parts especially to phones without warranty.
Is this normal, I saw this on other devices and some were aligned correctly?
Could you please share a picture of your device if possible?
Yea dont worry about that. I believe most are like that people just dont look that hard at there phones.

You gotta look real hard to see. But its there. Doesnt effect anything since it doesnt cover the lense.

The black one is mines. It has a screen protector on so thats the top offset.
But if you look at the black trim you can see where on the buttom of the camera it has more space then the top as its off center
My wife is the sliver one.
I did my best to take a picture of it. You can see how hers is center.
Either way it dossnt effect the camera.
And fyi these pictures were taken with the phone lol.

Mine is somewhat just like yours, I am glad that I'm not the only one.
Your wife's camera also looks a little misaligned from the right or I don't know if its because of the picture.
It's just ironic that a phone with such a hefty price, one would expect some quality and tolerance?
Haven't noticed this until just today. Not sure if this is normal or a sign of a bad camera soon to give out.
When I turn on the camera or flashlight, I hear a click from the rear camera and I can sort of see a tiny bit of movement from the lens.
