It only stated the addition of Samsung Cloud, nothing else. I should of done a screenshot of it before I updated my phone, but I can confirm it included the September security patch.

No you will have to backup app data with titanium backup... I recommend wiping anyway there's a higher chance there won't be any issues.

Definitely going to flash tonight then.
I can also confirm root with this update. Updated with odin, but it did give me a big bootloop problem after flashing the eng boot. Couldn't get it to work with the "Prince" custom odin or with regular odin 3.12. Had to dl the most recent (3.13 I think it is) and then it finally went.

I looked at VROOT but it has this listed:
VROOT - Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 only
I am looking at Chainfires method.
Can I use odin to return the firmware back to prior to the OTA?

I think I will do that then, it says Canada, but should be the same version used for the USA tabs.
I froze the SDM app so it would not automatically download the updates but it did anyway. Is there something else I can freeze to stop the updates?

Apps for OTA Firmware Updates :
Kies.apk
LocalFOTA.apk
SyncmIDM.apk
SyncmIDS.apk
Dear billinaz
If i m not mistaken With Odin you can flash stock firmware at any time through download mode. But most imp thing you must have details of previous firmware prior to OTA like baseband and build version. If u have such information than you can find suitable stock firmware by Google it.

Maybe check your 10.1 and see if that is the same firmware as before the update. Would I need any other files?
OK, I used odin and restored the previous firmware. Ran towelroot again, and all is back to the way it was before the mistake in software update.
I was able to freeze LocalFOTA.apk but these were not there to freeze:
Kies.apk
SyncmIDM.apk

You can use any firmware. In general, in order to know your region should be opened recovery (only sink), and there you will see. Or even easier, install the phone_info and you will be happy.

Nope, phone has been solid except for these partial reboots for the last two months. It started right after the first MM update (PC1). Hasn't gotten worse or better. Hoping this is the "stability improvement" that is getting fixed.

I've also had random reboots ever since Marshmallow/PC1. I ended up trying to isolate the problem by starting from factory reset and installing apps in small groups to determine where there was an incompatibility. So far, I've found that the Amazon appstore is definitely one source of instability. The other one for me seems to be the app AnyMote. I'm hoping that PE1 somehow fixes these...

Yep, root is good with PE1. Able to odin latest TWRP and install chainfire su 2.74 to achieve root with no problem. I even odin back down to PD1 without a single problem.
What are the potential security risk by not taking these updates? Since having root wont allow you to do the update and having to flash stock software to take the update is a bit of a pain.
How?

Mine will no longer check for up-dates.. manually or Auto...

When I tap Download Updates manually, nothing happens.. Even Long press.

Any suggestions???
Battery pull and a few re-starts still wont let me check for updates.

Finally [after about 2 years], i unrooted off of BOB7 to take updates to marshmallow, and of course, i get something that's been out for only hours i think, lol.
So, would you mind me asking, are those the only steps?* Odin latest TWRP then install (thru play store? ) su 2.74?
I'm assuming I'd need to stay stock until a PE1 rom is made. How would i go to PD firmware and stay rooted after* if wanting to flash some custom roms?
Any help/advice appreciated.

Deffinately not package disabler pro. I was able to update with all my packages disabled. Although maybe you have apps disabled that i do not have disabled. Nonetheless i have not seen any major improvements at all in the update. So i would not worry about rushing to get it.
