Recently I bought a Reliance Jio Sim for my nexus 4. But When I plugged it in, It doesn't register on any network.
Anybody knows how to make it work..
I tried changing Cellphone network in Settings to LTE. (didnt work)
I also tried 2nd method which i saw in one of Unbox Therapy Video.
I.e. dialing *#*#4636#*#* from dialer app
then selecting Phone Information .
Inside that Set Preferred network type to LTE/GSM auto (PRL)
That to didnt work.
Anybody knows any work around.
Thanks in advance.

Our Nexus 4 is an 3G device even if you switch it to LTE(4G) it wont register, because Jio and all those other 4G sim in India uses different Band than aboard carriers.

Which band does 4G network in US work on ..?
Taken from Quora:
Reliance holds the license for 2300 MHz spectrum all over the country plus, 800 MHz spectrum in 10 circles and 1800 MHz spectrum in 6 circles for all kinds of services. 1800 MHz band is one of the most popular bands for deploying LTE services across the world, due to considerable advantages over 2300 MHz band. Around 44% of global 4G networks are deployed over 1800 MHz spectrum.

Swapnil .. 4G wont work in our device.. Only 1-2 bands are supported on our nexus 4 ..
New 4G band auction is going to happen very soon .. Maybe then we can get 4G from some carrier..
But its not worth it .. As i have read somewhere the antennae is there in phone but not the amplifier... So you'll get very weak signals all the time and it'll drain your battery very fast..

Even though you have Nougat on your phone, the modem is still the old one (because you might be knowing that Google doesn't support this phone since last 2 years i.e. after lollipop).
And as I mentioned earlier in my post, JIO can be used on Nexus 4, see this post on facebook.
What Nougat ROM do you have BTW?

Is LTE really working on Nexus 4 in India? If so, on what carriers? If someone would be kind enough to confirm. Its just that, other than one person everyone is saying no. Really like my Nexus 4, don't want to buy a new phone
PS: Haven't bought a 4G sim yet, just waiting for confirmation.
I came to know that it only works in LTE band 4; and this band is not used in India. So LTW WILL NOT WORK in India. Don't know why that guy posted that on facebook (to which I linked on last page)

Nexus 4 doesnt support TD LTE even after flashing hybrid modem. heck it doesnt even support remianing LTE bands. so no go

Shocked to read this. Expectations from a device released in late 2012. But i think you can try multiboot kitkat/jellybean for LTE hacks with mm/n till dec 31.

Fine, we're only left with an option to upgrade our hardware ??? 4G on N4 is only possible when some network carriers get band 4 1700/2100 AWS
see this
Ok...so u cant use jio...its ok...take 4g 'IDEA' sim ...recharge I with 4g one month plan......then turn this sim on in any 4g mobile.....use some internet...then take it out out and put it in any 3g phone....u will be able to use free calling feature and 1gb daily internet on 3g speed.....

I am on Three UK, and although LTE is not rolled out yet, I was surprised that the LTE menu options do not appear at all. For example, why wouldn't I have this option in case I roamed to a foreign country that provides LTE to roamers.
In the network options I only have
WCDMA only
GSM/WCDMA auto
I know those on EE have another option for LTE.
Supposedly LTE and 3G SIMs are the same. In fact Three will provide free LTE access later this year automatically and without any administrative changes.
Could others confirm, if they are not on an LTE network, whether they see the LTE option on the phones network settings?
I think the phone only shows the option to turn LTE on or off if it detects LTE on your network so it should appear automatically once Three launch LTE
I agree! I decompiled Settings.apk of the HTC One and the network selection option uses RadioInfo class to determine what should be shown on the menu. In fact I can even see CDMA & EV-DO there.
Excellent. Perfect answers. Thank you. For some reason I had it stuck in my head that it was based on the SIM provisioning. I should have realised that it is based on the capabilities of the network you are currently connected to rather than a provisioning option.
I have LTE option on mine, got it on vodafone contract from p4u though the phone is sim free/unlocked.

Maybe.
Seems like you just wanted to vent. You didn't say what custom ROMs you have tried or any other useful details, which leaves me no choice but to assume that you either haven't tried many ROMs or are wildly exaggerating.
Most of the ROMs that I have used work fine for both SMS and LTE. If you post a better description of your situation, what ROMs you have tried, specific errors you had, etc, then we'd have a much better basis to help you.

phoenix ROM v2.0 & SpeedROM v4 DEODEXED. No error except APN settings are non existant, same with seeing the LTE feature on the network type at all, & when sending a text it times out and says try again with no error except did not send try again.

That implies that you have searched exhaustively without productive results. But you've only tried two ROMs. You are factually mistaken about the first ROM, and I'd wager about the second one too.
You said that there are no APN settings in Phoenix 2.0. I just reinstalled Phoenix and the APN settings are present in the expected place
Settings > Connections > More networks > Mobile networks > APN
SMS works fine as well.
For your LTE issues, you said that you are using a 900P model, but didn't say what carrier you use. You have a Sprint phone, so confirm that Sprint has LTE in your particular area and that your SIM /account is provisioned for LTE.
If you are using the handset on a different carrier then your LTE problems are due to using an incompatible phone, not ROM bugs. Sprint is a CDMA carrier, with limited LTE and even more limited compatibility with LTE on GSM carriers. This is not a ROM limitation, but caused because you have a CDMA version of the S5 that isn't configured for much more than the specific bands that Sprint uses.
Note that the specs for the 900P say that it can access LTE bands 25/26/41.
Now compare that to some GSM carriers
TMobile LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/14/17
ATT LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/17
Bell LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/17
900F LTE bands 1/2/3/5/7/8/20
Or CDMA carriers
Verizon LTE bands 4/13
US Cellular LTE bands 2/4/5/12/17
You can see that most GSM carriers are largely compatible in the LTE bands that they use. The CDMA carriers in contrast have few bands in common with each other or GSM carriers.
In particular, your 900P doesn't appear to have any LTE bands in common with any of the other carriers. So the only way you will get LTE is if you are using Sprint in an area where Sprint has LTE service. Due to 900P restrictions, not the ROM.
.
Wrong LTE is available on sprint & in my area. And APN is non existent when using those ROMs. So its not my phone unless they don't support my phone
Good luck with your issues.

Ok, so i ordered a SM-N910U from 28mobile.com, and they sent me a carrier branded SM-n910K, which by its specifications should work with Brazilian LTE (band 7 - 2600). However I am stuck on 3g. I was wondering if maybe the whole internet is wrong and this device doesnt support this band, or maybe its some sort of carrier lock. Also, how do i disable the awful branding, will flash a different firmware work and which do i flash?
Thanks

1) check frequencies that U model supports @ samsung website (its asian/hong kong, right? those miss some frequencieos)
2) check which frequencies are used for 4g by your brazilian telco.
3) compare.
if frequencies match, you might want to try:
1) getting a new sim that is surely 4g-capable
2) getting an iphone nano-sim. this is crazy, but for many users in russian forums that has solved 4g connectivity issues with one telco.
3) making sure your plan supports 4g
4) ensure you have 4g coverage.

Is the SM-N910U the same as the SM-N910K as far as LTE bands go? I dont get it, they are both supposed to support Band 7 - 2600MHZ, which is the one we have over here. What about flashing a different firmware? I've been trying with odin, to no success.
They do support that frequency so it's probably something to do with your sim card or carrier?
And 28mobile told me I was receiving one model only to get the k model like you. Wasn't happy. The updates for firmwares are slow

Well, I am on a LTE plan, tried 3 different sims already, they are all stuck on 3G...And all our carriers have the same band, which is 7...So it's not the sim or the carrier...its the phone. I bet that there's some sort of lock going on, since all roaming options are grayed out (the phone is not stuck on roaming, however). I am trying to flash any other model's firmware, like U, C and even S, but odin always fails when trying.

When you ordered the "U"-model, and got a branded "K"-model, I would complain to the shop you bought it and demand a swap to the model you ordered!
Various websites confirm its compatible with LTE band 17. My other phone connects to it while in my house, but the Zenfone will mostly connect to HSPA+, or sometimes LTE band 2. I cannot get it to stay connected to LTE unless I get into town or on the highway. (Actually as I'm typing, it switched to LTE band 2, but in awhile it will go back to HSPA)
If I root is there any way to unlock band 17? I'm in the US and my carrier runs off AT&T towers. I got this phone specifically because band 17 reaches far off places much better but I am unable to use it.
Edit: I just realized the model number in the Android settings is "asus_Z012DA" and that apparently is not a US variant. I didn't know about the different variants at all. Am I out of luck?

For the time being yes you are. There is a way to unlock LTE bands on Qualcomm devices, but it seems ASUS has a fail safe built into kernel preventing it at the moment. If there is ever a custom rom developed for your phone then it maybe possible to unlock band 17. Until then no. I have been trying on my Zenfone 3 Ultra. Got as far as entering in the values for the bands I want and when I reboot it resets them to default. You can read up on it here:

Yeah I realize that now. Even though I'm stuck with my phone, I still can't find the z012dc for sale anywhere. Practically no seller online lists which variant it is. In fact, after a few hours of research, I never even knew there was specifically variants.

Whoa thanks man. I'll keep checking back and maybe I'll try it myself. Seems you guys are close.
I must say though, this isn't a complete deal breaker, though I am stuck with this phone anyway. The Hspa network is actually FASTER than LTE band 17 in my house. I'm just afraid if I travel somewhere and only band 17 is available I might run into some trouble. But then again, 3g or Hspa might still be able to connect.
Can anyone verify this actually works? Got this phone with the intention of having better coverage from band 12, but i've never seen lte discovery show anything but band 4.

In short, band 12 is a low frequency signal. The towers can broadcast huge coverage areas with the low frequency at the cost lower speed than their band 4 coverage areas. Band 12 for is great at penetrating buildings with thick walls.
Very few phones support this freq on T-mobile and I was hoping the mini could do it.

Are you testing it in the same place(s) you've had other phones show band 12 on LTE discovery? Officially it should work as of the Jan 2017 update. I'm pretty sure I have had it show band 12 when I was on stock (not rooted). I don't have a way to verify this now as my Mini is on LOS which currently does not support band 12 nor Wi-Fi calling. It's also my "secondary" phone until I get time to return it to stock (or LOS gets that functionality).

@googletermsofservice,
Thank you very much! Are there many service provider offer band 12 now? I mean, many providers such T-Mobile, ATT etc all offer band 12?

Can anyone verify this actually works? Got this phone with the intention of having better coverage from band 12, but i've never seen lte discovery show anything but band 4.

Does your phone stay on LTE when making a call (VOLTE)? If yes, the phone is working on band 12.
According to these website, the A7M should work with Band 12 and VOLTE & WFC:

You need to make sure your phone is on at least the Dec update, if not newer.
Spectrum gateway is pretty reliable. I would use them as a first resource when considering a non-Tmo phone. I am supposed to receive this phone tomorrow. Will update if B12/VOLTE/WFC works...
I got the phone today. I can confirm that both VOLTE and WiFi calling work on TMobile after installing the update from the ZTE website here: https://www.zteusa.com/axon-7mini#support
