My Nexus One will not charge at all and when I try to plug it into the computer it is not being recognized. The phone itself works but it's running low on power. The last thing I did was flash to CM 6.0.0-RC2 and it worked fine last night and all day today up until a few hours ago. Is there a stock ROM or anything I can do to re-flash the radio and image to see if that helps? Please help ASAP, thanks.

Are you sure you didn't mess up the USB port in the device itself?
Wipe and go back to CM5.08
Wipe and go back to full stock. If it still has a problem its a hardware fault and you should try to use the waranty. Flashing 5.08 or any other custom rom will still leave u in doubt it may be the ROM. Also when/if you do send it back for waranty it'll look alot better if you have stock on it - even if the bootloader is unlocked.
I don't think it will be covered under warranty if the bootloader is unlocked. I was able to put the battery in another one and charge it long enough to put it back to stock. I believe my only option would be to send it back and pay for the repair or buy a dock and charge it that way. Can someone point me to the correct stock ROM just in case I didn't do the right one? I'll have to find a way to charge it up before doing so. I'm open to other suggestions also if anyone has any. It just really sucks that I may have to pay for it because this clearly seems like a hardware problem. It's weird when plugging it into a computer a message will come up about not enough power so the computer is somewhat recognizing it but I can't do anything with it.
Can't you just use wall charger?
I've tried a wall charger, the car charger, and USB and neither of them charge. The computer recognizes it or at least see's some device but I get a message about low power on a USB port.
Have you tried this?

This makes me think that you have an electrical problem. If it is pulling down the voltage on your PC there could be a short in the micro-USB port or something else wrong with the charging system.
A dock would be a good test to see if it is actually the port or something deeper. Watch to see if it heats up too much when charging (it will heat up to some degree but it could get seriously hot if there is an issue).
The phone does not get warm at all when plugged into either a charger or USB port. And @cue_32 I have downloading the original shipping ROM but I have my battery charging in someone else's phone before I can put it back to factory. I have a few things I want to try and see if I can get this thing to come back to life. I don't know anyone that has a dock so I can't really test that part out.
Sounds like the connection of one of the power pins on USB port is broken. That would also result in the phone not being recognized, since without having VBUS it won't detect USB attach and won't start the connection.
I suggest returning the phone for a warranty repair, unless you want a phone without functional USB.
That's what I'm going to do is send it in. It sounds more of a hardware issue and should not have been caused by rooting the phone. I have never overclocked the phone and the only 2 programs I installed that required root access was Wireless Tether and ROM Manager. So hopefully the repair goes well and next time hopefully I can root without unlocking the bootloader. I really don't need root but it's nice to have ROM manager and CynogenMod installed.
Well it appears that the charging port is bad and they want to charge me almost 200 dollars. Apparently this is not covered because it is customer induced damage. I guess I wasn't allowed to plug it in to charge it and sync it. I don’t understand this because it was never dropped or anything. HTC used to be very good but now they are getting worse in my opinion. I had a HTC Dash 3G that the microphone didn't work good and they told me it was opened so they could not cover it when I didn't open it up at all.
Anyone want a Nexus One that doesn't charge? It should charge in a dock but I'm not 100% sure. HTC can kiss all of my business goodbye after all this. Time to go with a motorola or samsung android phone.
If you try to escalate your claim with HTC, I think they might be persuaded to fix your phone for free. Sometimes the lower level guys are pretty stingy, but some of the managers are more likely to hook you up.

I have talked to 2 supervisors and that got me no where. In fact if I didn't call them every other day I have a feeling I'd still be waiting. When I had an iPhone I had a replacement the next day but now it's just over 3 weeks and I am still without my phone. I went ahead and had them charge my CC and I'll just dispute the charge and ask for pictures. I am always careful with my phones and have never had one break like this. This whole thing is just frustrating. I'm tempted on returning my wifes HTC EVO and getting the Samsung moment or Epic.
Oh my goodnees. Today my phone got possessed by Car Mode.
Car mode keeps popping up and forcibly freezing any app I'm in. First noticed it when I had my phone plugged into my computer and it suddenly exited without ant warning.
Since then its just gone crazy... almost to the point of unusability. I unplug the phone and it still thinks its in charge mode!!
Every few minutes it starts beeping madly with the Car Mode randomly appearing and dissapearing in the status bar... Its bloody possessed!!!
After flashing various roms and nand backups.. its definately not a software problem as its still persisting.
Did some research on the topic and apparently its due to the usb connection. The note goes into car mode if the usb connector ports are maybe blocked with dust. Tried cleaning them with compressed air... but to no avail... the phone is still possessed.... obvioslt the connector ports are malfunctioning.
Looks like its unrooting, back to stock and returning for a new one. Luckily I only had it for less than a month, so should be no trouble in getting a replacement.
Anyone else had this issue??

I have few friends with samsungs , first time I saw the problem, With an Infuse 4g, bought off ebay, it did the same thing exactly but with usb connection, but when we flashed 2.3 over 2.2 it stopped, but the battery died in 8 hours no use.
Second my friends gt i5800 galaxy has the same problem too.
I didnt know this is such a big flaw for samsung devices, till now.
Mine sometimes think it is charging though nothing is connected to the USB port. And othertimes when I connect charger it is not recognised until removing it several times. So something is fishy with the USB port
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
Well... After reading a lot on the issue..apparently this can be caused from dirt in the usb connector. If dirt gets caught between certain pins in the usb connector .. the phone defaults to thinking it in dock mode. Cleaning it out with compressed air should help... but it didnt on mine.
Another one is dampness on the usb connector.
My phone was in and out of car dock mode and normal mode every 10 seconds and telling me it wasnt charging when plugged into charger and telling me it was charging when not attatched.
When turning off.. it wouldnt turn off ... but just reboot. Then it would turn off for half an hour and suddenly reboot to start the process all over again. Totallty full on possession.
Flashed a stock rom.. but couldnt bring myself to unroot.. lol.
So went to work and left the phone with the battery out for a few hours.
Came home , ready to flash total stock through Odin and loose root in order to take it back to be repaired.
Popped in the battery and.. presto... everything back to normal. Its been exorcised I hope.
I have a feeling that all this might have happened after I forgot to turn off usb storage on the phone before disconnecting from the computer... but not sure.
Anyway. lets hope its ok.
What you waiting for man, take that phone back and replace it!
No, this bug is known in galaxy community. I had this too and things like not able turn power off only rebooting with galaxy s2 and its now on miui ROM and no issues anymore.
I don't remember what I did to solve it.maybe flashing stock again.
But there're threads about it in S2 forum.
now my note is beginning having this issues too. It just not turning off, only rebooting itself.
I will watch progress.
Extremely common issue on the Galaxy S2, caused by a malfunctioning USB port.
I had the same issue as well. Galaxy note India less than 15 days old. Not rooted yet.
I saw on a forum to try
1. Unplug the USB cable
2.On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284# Once the last # is hit, the PhoneUtil application is launched. Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode. The correct mode should be PDA. Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.
3.Plug the USB cable.

This worked so far. One day and counting and no further glitches yet.

Definatly malfunctioning usb port mines doing the same, the real reason is the phone has been subjected to moisture from somewhere. When plugged in to pc just charges but worse mtp connected shows up in notifications even when not plugged in.After a nights charging when I unplug it still shows charging and battery drain is worse than usual. The problem is I cant unroot because its not showing on pc so cant return the phone.Took the phone apart to have look no sign of water damage but they will check under a microscope and will sure see something.Galaxy s2 usb port can be purchased cheaply but haven't seen one for Note hopefully won't be long, post if you can find one.
Thanks
I am now experiencing the same bug with my Note. I think my only option if cleaning the USB port fails is mailing it back to Handtec in the UK. Dammit. This might be my last experiment with grey-market phones. I am usually not afraid of a <90 day failure with Samsung as they make a good product, but this is ridiculous.

I am in the same boat, this is my first grey market and will be my last, it's too bad the US get shaft by carriers.
Mind started freaking out last week, out of no where the driving mode just keeps popping up, and it wasn't plug into anything. Now the charging port is totally dead, so I've been swapping out batteries from external charger, what a pain in the arsh.
when I first received the phone, the setup screen was in German, so I'm guessing that's where my phone came from, shot an email out to their mobile division this morning, hopefully I can send it in and get it repair.

I am having the same issues. I have sent it back to my carrier in dominican republic they are just holding on to my phone and doing nothing to fix it. I have a feeling I will get shafted in the end.
The good news is that the usb port circuit module is being sold now from china.

mine charges from charger sent by samsung but does not charge with 3 htc chargers used for my old htc desire. neither does it charge with car charger i used to use for my htc desire.
also keeps crashing within minutes everytime i load sd card it does this non stop, tw crashes and reboots all the times. works fine when sd card is removed or even if still in phone but unloaded from settings. wondering if similar issue. trying deleting various apps but looks like no difference. guess will send back and ask for a refund if cant find a solution soon. too costly a phone to accept not being able to use any sd card in the phone.

looks like problem sorted (for now!). initially problem seemed sorted after firmware update but then 2 days later back to square one.
anyway yesterday after umoteen attempts at deleting and reloading apps all of which failed to sort the problem, i later took a new 32gb sandisk (got a stock of 4 of them apart from a few other capacities, got them cheap for about 17£ each at a recent play.com sale) and used in the note without issues but had to reload all apps. did crash once or twice in last 24h but working fine otherwise. TW occassionally does get shut down by system and have to wait a sec or two for home screen to get populated with apps/widgets. if i hadnt liked the phone would have sent it for a refund long back. but this will do till the note2 comes along, guess nothing else will do after this one!
btw the old 32gb microsd card still works fine in other devices, so dont know what the problem was with the note and the microsd card
I just want you guys to help me diagnose the problem.
I was charging my phone yesterday with a cheap car charger.
My phone now produces lots of heat, eats lots of current (discharges quickly) and USB is not working (only charging).
I tried flashing different radios, kernels, stock rom and factory reset - didn't help.
Plugging a phone into Ubuntu PC doesn't add any logs about new USB device in dmesg, even in fastboot mode.
My questions:
1. What can cause SoC to produce heat and to discarge battery very quickly?
2. Is it a failure of a USB board or of the SoC itself?
I have two options on eBay: logic board and usb board.
It would be great to buy a 16GB motherboard instead of my current 8GB, but I want to address the problem with less money spent on it.
I don't know which one to buy.
same problem
Unforunetly I don't have a solution for you, I have been experiencing the same problem since last week. My phone no longer charges in AC mode, I can't connect it to any PC (fastboot doesn't work), and the battery is draining fast (from Phone Idle process). It is warm when the screen is off. I am on Android 4.3, it was working fine up until last week.
I'm about ready to RMA it, however it's interesting that I am not the only one experiencing this problem lately.

I'm not sure what caused it, I have a feeling it's similar to what happened to yours. I use a blackberry car charger in my car, and at work I use a non LG AC charger. So I'm thinking it was the car charger, but the weird thing is it has been working fine with both chargers for 6+ months.

Another thing is that I was installing a faux kernel 3 days ago, but it didn't cause these symptoms instantaneously (instead, it made my nexus super power-efficient), so I don't think that was the cause, too.
P.S. Google's RMA policy doesn't allow to return phones after 15 days, so I think the best choice would be to buy a broken phone and interchange the parts.

I haven't used any custom kernels or ROMs. I am rooted with custom recovery though.
There is a 1 year warranty on the phone, and I am within that 1 year so I hope to be able to get a replacement. This appears to be a hardware problem.
edit: Have you tried taking the battery out? In previous phones when stuff like this would happen I was able to pull the battery out. I tried to open my phone but it's a pain to pry open without breaking something.

No, but I will do this tomorrow. I don't know if this helps.
P.S. Sometimes I get this in dmesg:
Code:
[738145.499853] hub 2-1:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 8
...which is not good either.
Well, I tried removing the battery - that didn't help.
What actually helped, is the following:
1. Bought cheap broken nexus.
2. Exchanged motherboard and usb board with my existing device.
3. Sold broken nexus for cheaper price.
4. ...Profit!
Now my nexus works again, and more than that, it has 16gb instead of 8gb. It wasn't hard.
I'm happy now.
Hi all,
I just bought an LG G2 (D802 international unlocked version) and the behavior when plugging in the charger cable is very strange:
When I plug in any charger (tried 4 different ones with different cables incl. stock), the phone is not charging.
BUT, there are a few strange things happening:
1. On the lock screen it shows "Charging"
2. In the settings menu under the battery menu it shows "not charging" (this is different from being unplugged, then it shows something like "discharging")
3. Sometimes the popup comes up when I plug it in, but not always.
3. When I turn the phone off and plug the cable in, the display lights up (also the LED) and it shows the "charging" battery symbol.
IN ANY CASE, THE PHONE BATTERY IS NOT CHARGING!
Here is what I tried so far:
- Used 4 different chargers & cables
- Tried to charge via USB
- Did a factory reset
Nothing helped so far.
I suppose that its a hardware failure, but maybe someone has a different suggestion/solution?
Only thing i can recommend is maybe do a factory reset to see if that corrects it which i doubt it will. Other then that i would have the phone warrantied then.
If its a software issue then that is at the kernel level. I would assume its a hardware issue though

I got a replacement unit, it was a hardware issue.
The same problem i am facing with my G2 Sprint LS980 and i am pretty sure this is not hardware problem because my phone had signal issues and LG charged repair fee around US$ 55. My phone was not rooted before repair and also my phone was charging fast too. It has installed ZVD7 ROM. But once i get my phone it was completely changed. They rooted my phone, They converted my ROM from ZVD7 to Cloud G3 2.2 and they also installed TWRP recovery. But still phone is not charging same like as you posted. I just noticed another thing phone is perfectly charging in TWRP recovery mode. Therefore i am 99% sure it's not hardware issue. 2nd issue is that phone is also not detect with my PC. I tried different drivers but failed. Anybody can help me or suggest me any suitable ROM and provide me correct driver or PC suite?

Not yet Dear...It is the piece of junk for me. Now my ROM has been deleted. I want it back
I have the same problem. The phone is acting very inconsistent with charging after I replaced my broken display. This is the second time I replace the display, and it didn't cause any issues the first time. Basically, my phone won't charge more than maybe 2% over a period of 12-16 hours. The phone does not discharge as others have mentioned in previous posts.
No one seems to have a solution to this problem. Some people online are arguing that is it a "security measure" LG have installed into the phone, which makes it impossible to properly charge the phone without an official LG charger/cable. However, I never used the official charger, but been using various chargers and cables without problems!
But now comes the really weird part. I decided to take off the backcover, and then plug in the charger to see if pushing down on different parts would somehow fix it (loose connections etc..). But before I got around to test such hackery, I plugged in the USB and the phone suddenly started charging! I proceeded reproduce the problem/solution, and the result was very confusing: no real charging with backcover on; perfect charging with the backcover off.
Would anyone here on XDA have any ideas as to why this is happening? I've been thinking that the connectors on the backside on the cover might have something to do with it. Not having the backcover on does not seem to affect the phone at all (i can use it like I would without the cover).
TLR: My phone won't charge with the backcover on, magically works when the backcover is off. I suspect that it might have something to do with the connectors on the back of the cover.
Maybe putting the back cover on the phone is causing a grounding problem or shorting a circuit. Maybe put some insulating material on the inside of the back cover and then put on the phone?

Yes, I thought about doing this, trying one connectors at a time. Do you think that the sticky part of a post-it note like do? I don't have electrical tape lying around atm :/
Anything that is non-conductive should be fine since it is just a test.
You could also use a non-sticky piece of paper between the cover and the phone's components.

So you solved the problem?
I have very same problem decon89 described - I replaced screen and cannot charge it properly. And even worse: charging is possible with the phone being switched off completely. And after phone is charged - I cannot turn on the phone unless i open back cover and unplug-plug battery cable. Phone MAY turn on without unplugging-plugging battery, but it is blind luck. Yesterday i accidently turned off my 100% charged lg g2 and could not turn it back on during whole day. If someone has a solution please share it.
Hi everyone,
I'm so sorry for not following up on this thread. I haven't fix the problem yet, but it worked for same time, then started acting up again.
I've put a few strips of electrical tape on the bottom part of the phone, behind the black plastic thing. I did this because of an issue with my display having a loose connection. This fixed the screen problem, but the charging fault came back.
The idea of putting a piece of paper between the battery and cover did not work at the time, but I'll try it again tonight.
As I'm writing this, the phone is charging with the cover half off. It works, charges, no problem. I can even use the phone even though the bottom part of the cover is off.

Hi all, long time creeper, first time poster
I have the S8+. Not too long ago, it gave me the error, "moisture detected in USB port" whenever I tried to charge it. It's never been close to water so I thought it was a tad strange. I cleaned the port out, still no charge. I cleared the cache/data for USBSettings, which enabled me to trickle charge, VERY slowly (when it decided to work, I had to pull cable/clear cache multiple times before it worked.
I've tried different charging cables and plugs, tried different ROMs and firmware, both Oreo and Nougat, with no luck. That suggested to me it could be a hardware failure.
(It cannot be read by USB on Win10 so no ODIN & I can't use my USB DAC or GearVR headset either)
So, I ordered a new daughterboard and set to work on it this morning. After a lot of swearing and a bloody finger, I had the phone back together, but the problem still persists with the new part?!
Has anyone had similar issues or got any suggestions for me before I throw this goddamn phone out of a window? :crying: hah.
Thanks for reading

Hello there, as I can understand you change the daughterboard yourself right ? Why not get it to service Indeed? I mean if you don't know how to change the board you should go to a service. Also I never faced that problem, a stupid question have you tried a different adapter ? If you have a powerbank try to charge it from there too to see the problem persists. I give you some ideas might they are stupid for you, I do not know what else to say .
You already tried different ROM , cable . The phone never dropped to water , that's very very strange :silly:
I had a similar problem with my old Galaxy S6. Nothing happened after changing the daughterboard (not my first replacement).
So after that I figured out I take the expensive way and got it to a repair center. They checked for root so their first answer was just "KNOX is tripped, that's your problem". Well duuhhh, I know that and I could use it just before a couple days. After a very long and frustrating discussion, they accepted to check the mainboard. Turns out there were some capacitors burned. I would had to change the mainboard do get it charging and/or connecting with a PC again.
Long story short: there might be a short circuit on your mainboard. You can also try wireless charging but for me, it sounds like a bad mainboard. If you can, try for warranty.
