Out of anger or excitement? For me it'd be out of anger Canadian dollar still sucks so the chances of this device getting into my hands are definitely not XL
I've been waiting for Pixel XL for soooo long, and I just hope pricing is not super high. I'm planning to get the 64 gig version...
Design seems to be a disappointment. Huge bezel and 5.5" screen? If the price is high I'm getting the frost 6P, because white XL looks disgusting. Almost like a cheap Chinese copy of iPhone 6, especially the front side. I feel like I've been waiting for nothing, could have gotten 6P months ago.

I remember the first 6P renders looking horrid, but it turned out to be nice and slick (but still not the biggest fan of the glass camera back). I'm sure once the official pictures come out, everyone will be drooling over it.

I wish I had that phone... I sold myö iPhone 6 Plus for Pixel XL and currently I'm using S6 Edge, although it's not my phone and I'm supposed to give it back to my friend once I get Pixel XL/6P. I will have to buy a phone eventually and I want Pixel XL so bad, but I find 6P awesome provided that Pixel XL render is not so good. But they are only renders, so I just have to wait patiently.

Have a Note 7 which is as we all know best in class for camera, water resistance but despite being a PhoneAholic can't decide whether or not to go for Pixel XL..had every Nexus device and sometimes miss extra features that Samsung provide...but then HATE their slow firmware update schedule....decisions decisions !

They will always lack some features. But I think Google is giving up on stock firmware, so I'm guessing Pixel phones will be different in terms of features you mentioned compared to Nexus phones. Still those features won't be heart rate sensor or something.
By the way, if we buy devices on Canadian Google Store, do we also get 1 year hardware warranty like the US customers?
It is my understanding the Pixel XL is stock firmware, quick updates as we got with the Nexus Devices.
My theory one of the reason why Google rebranded Nexus to Pixel because recycling names was getting confusing.
Nexus 6, 6p, ... 6 (2016) or 6xl or something .... let us just call the next devices Pixel.
If it is like most years the Pixel XL will not release in Canada at the same time as the Americans get it but when it is released in Canada I will likely pick one up.
I'm hoping the XL is a badass phone and comes to Wind. My S6 is good but dev support and updates have me regretting buying it. If not I guess it's a 6p, op3 or htc 10 maybe.

It looks odd with the back half glass and half metal....like its patched up lol. At least the white one looks odd anyway.
Would have looked much better all of one material instead of half and half.
I still think it was a stupid idea to shrink the screen and lose the stereo speakers. Not a strong selling feature for me at any rate.

Well 1179$ + taxes for the Canadian model Pixel XL 128gb. This is crazy.
pretty disappointed to see such a ridiculous price point on the XL. Over $1000 for 32GB's and no device protection. Not sure what Google is trying to do here but I'm definitely not buying it at that price. No phone is worth $1000.
Very expensive, the XL came to $1300 with tax for the 128GB model with no insurance.
Canadian prices (before taxes):
Pixel 32GB: 900$
Pixel 128GB: 1030$
Pixel XL 32GB: 1050$
Pixel XL 128GB: 1180$

Thats so funny...more than a note 7 and lacking so many features not the least of which would be sd card support and waterproofing. They even ditched some of the 7P features dont even offer 256gb of storage but charging that kind of money.
Google is smoking something, they are totally out their minds.

128 GB Flash and a 5 inch screen. This is what i'm looking for, a long time now.
Hopefully the Pixel phones also have an unlockable bootloader like all the Nexus phones have - otherwise it's a no-go.

technically yes. And yep I was really looking forward for more than 2gb Ram and an AMOLED screen but this phone simply doesn't offer for me the justification to be 500€ more expensive than the Nexus 5X.
Come on: I think everyone was kind of waiting for the secret killer feature that wasn't announced. I personally bet that the glass/plastic back is touch enabled for swipe/scroll gestures but that did not happen. Daydreams seems still not 100% ready..

I completely agree with you. I will not get one of these 2 devices either because of the price and its not a huge upgrade from the 6P imo.
The RAM is the main advantage to me.... (2GB for 64-bit android is an error, even the N5 2013 has less redraws. N5X should have had 3GB! )
On the other hand, the battery life (seems to have much better autonomy) and the AMOLED panel is another advantage.
But I bought the 5X at 300€ in Amazon (6 months after the release date). So I'll wait to see this Pixel at 500€ before buy it.
Much prefer LCD to AMOLED.

The camera sensors are NOT the same. They're just the same in terms of megapixels, which most photographers know isn't everything. Pixel should win in that category as well.
I'm having a real tough time deciding on what to do.... Buy a Pixel for 750 with protection plan, (no way in hell I'm financing at 29 .9% APR, friggin criminals), or buy an HTC 10, which is comparable to the Pixel, plus it has an SDCard and it's 550 bucks right now.....
Way overpriced - just like Apple's iPhone 7. Very dissapointed.
The pricing on these is out of touch with reality. Maybe its a part of the same pricing model they did on the Nexus 6 where all the fanboys and people who just dont know better pay full price, then 2 months later, its selling for $349.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA-Developers mobile app
I think these western phone manufacturers just prices them out of the market when chinese cheap and same spec phones are getting into the hands of masses. When people are getting poorer and poorer they just dont have money to purchase 750$ phones.

The non-metal part of the back is there so that the antennas behind it will actually pick up RF. Doesn't make sense for a cell phone to not be able to get cell service!
Daydream is a gimmick and will ALWAYS be a gimmick.
The way forward for hardware, is always going to be better (smaller/faster/more capable) hardware.

The 6P is a bit of an oddball unit, not really necessary, since it is a downgrade from the 6 before it (face it, 64bit doesn't provide any benefit to the workloads you get on a PHONE), and a very highly optimized and cool running 32bit chip can run circles around a run of the mill bone stock A57 reference toaster element.
Now the new kryo cores... those are optimized cool running 64bit chips in the same way as the 32bit krait450. Certainly not enough to be worth spending a pile of money on to replace a Nexus 6, but if you're in need of a phone, it is definitely the best and would be the best choice.
I'm hanging on to my Nexus 6, but I'm getting the pixel 5/128 for the wife, whose Nexus 5 is starting to flake out.
I think that one of the problems that people have is in understanding when to buy a phone and when not to. There are NO "revolutionary" new things to be had, the changes are incremental. So don't do stupid things like continually replacing your phone with whatever the "newest" one is, since there won't be a significant difference. But when you *need* a new phone, then pick the best nexus/pixel and buy it.
boy they missed the boat on this one. Pricing is outrageous. I'm not an iphone user . but As much as it looks like it wants to be, its not an iphone. Your average joe isn't going to buy this at this price. They'll say, google pixel, eh never heard of it, i'm not dropping $900 on a phone i've never heard of. But they will drop $900 on an iphone because it has created a brand that people know and trust. This is a major fail in pricing. At this price it should have EVERYTHING out there, it doesn't even have wireless charging, no expandable memory, no removalable battery, and isnt' even water proof. It'd be a HARD sell to get a normal person to fork out 100-125 more for this over a S7 or similar. FAIL

I am thinking of going to a LG V20. First I will check to determine whether it might end up having a Verizonized Interface like the Note 7. I guess checking in with the V10 and G5 owners be a good indicator. If so, bye bye VZW! If we keep the Note 7s, we'll never see Nougat (or any update). I might even put up with the crappy resolution and go with an Iphone 7 plus (401 or 402 ppi .......Yeacccch!)
I'm hoping they'll let customers keep their note 7's as they're not going to refurb them, since it's being cancelled altogether.
I haven't been able to confirm nor deny whether it's possible to keep the note 7, but I'm hoping.

It looks like you are correct. I just logged into my business account and it suddenly shows that line eligible for an upgrade.
128gb Pixel XL in Silver just ordered. I'm done with phone swaps. I still keep the 2gb monthly bonus data. Unfortunately the Pixel isn't eligible for the Annual Upgrade Program which was a big part of why I bought the Note 7 knowing if it was poor it was only for 12 months. Did it online so they charged a 20 dollar upgrade fee. I will be calling tomorrow to get that refunded along with 35 bucks for the hand laid carbon fiber case I bought for the Note 7 that is now worthless... even as a paperweight lol. I'm also going to make sure I get the 300 dollar (over 24 months) credit for the Note 7 trade in and the Daydream Viewer. Even if I don't get the 35 bucks for the case I can sell the Gear VR, 256gb SD card and Fit 2.... It'll work out.

Was a rhetorical question really. I wouldn't expect V to refund me for something I bought elsewhere. Still sucks though. I sure hope Best Buy will honor a refund given the circumstances.
The thing that ticks me off is that the N7 had pretty much dominant specs when compared to other 2016 model phones/phablets but it is what it is.
What other modern phones (on vzw) are root friendly and have big ars screens? Was eyeballing the pixel but No MicroSD is a big bummer for me and who knows about rooting Android N (7.1) Moto Z looks pretty nice. Apple is NOT an option. Made that mistake already for 4years.

If you guys are getting pixel xl, might as well as get it from Google. Verizon's obviously slow down the updates + bloats, I mean it's frigging Verizon. Downside is the wait time for getting from Google is long...
I'm kinda liking the v20 more as time goes on. It's got a lot of interesting features, which is why the Note 7 is a lot of fun too.
The Nexus 6P is really good, so the pixel should be better. Sure is ugly, but everything is after the Note.
The iPad Pro is starting to grow on me but the phone is probably too much. Good to have a mix. Android and iOS aren't anything alike. Good or bad.
I'd be happy to just keep using the Note. There's something that really stinks about the current hysteria. I'd take my chances.

Verizon won't slowdown updates. Verizon will handle the updates but it won't get delayed. Just like they do with iPhones. Verizon's version will have 3 Preinstalled apps which you can remove them. That's pretty much it

I ported to AT&T where LGV20 pre-orders are available. Pre-ordered 2 V20s arrival date 10/24 through 10/27. I tried to pump VZW to learn when they would get the V20 with no luck (that info is probably only high high up) ...so back to AT&T we go! At least the free cloud storage is 50 gb as opposed to 5gb (on share plans) and a higher probability of enjoying an unadulterated LG experience (remembering what VZW did to the Note 7 Samsung cloud and device maintenance settings....We are currently using an old AT&T Note 3 and a Nexus 6P (running Android 7) while we wait.

That's how I feel about the pixel, don't know what exactly but I really don't like no SDcard. The lack of an SDcard was the reason I passed on the Note5. I had actually planned to keep the Note 7 until the Note 8 arrived but they seem to be making that difficult. I'm looking at the Moto Z Force and LG V20, neither of which I like as well as the Note 7. It sounds like the Moto Z will never see root so that kills it for me. The LG doesn't really impress me that much either but it does seem like the best option at this point. I just wish I would have kept my Note 3 (sold it on eBay), maybe I'll reactivate my old Note 2, lol.
Moving on to the Pixel XL 128GB and got a free Daydream VR for pre-ordering it from Verizon. Just wish Samsung could find and fix the problem because the Note 7 is as close to the perfect phone for me that I've ever used. Personally, I think a smaller battery would fix the issue. They just squeezed to much battery into to skinny a phone I think.
Anyone getting the Pixel, upgrading from HTC 10? I am a rooted HTC10 Verizon phone user. Just wanting to see if anyone else is contemplating on getting the Pixel, if so the Google or Verizon version?

Nope. Downgrade IMHO. Price point sucks.

I have to agree with this. I'm still using my M8 and held out to see what Nexus/Pixel brought, but for the price I'm going to get a used HTC 10 instead. I have always liked HTC since the M7 and nothing on the pixel seemed to pull me away. And then there's the price.

Not an upgrade IMO. I'm sticking with the 10.
No SD card, also no wireless charging, ugly back, fingerprint on the back (forcing a hole in the case), maybe better camera, but not much.
No good reason to switch.

Thanks for the opinions - that's basically how I feel
Ditto with the statements above. The only thing I'd love over the HTC 10 is the slightly smaller size of the Pixel and built in 128gb of storage (Still having SD card issues on my 10).
Considering I took advantage of the $100 promo right when the device came out in addition to a promo that gave me $300 for my old Turbo I only ended up paying $250 for the 10. Can't even get close to that for the Pixel.
Once Google puts their own custom SoCs aboard the Pixels....they'll have all my money.
Agree with everyone else observing that a 10 to a Pixel is a downgrade. I have a 200gb sdcard in my 10; it's easily rooted via Sunshine, running all my preferred mods via Magisk and Xposed and I have no desire to tinker with perfection for a bigger handset with smaller specs.

I am also Verizon HTC 10 user and yes, I am very happy with my phone.
But in future, if I have to buy a new phone even then I am not going buy Google Pixel XL. The only thing I like in Google Pixel XL is its camera quality. I don't know about other countries but in India Google Pixel XL is very expensive. For me, buying Google Pixel XL is definitely not a good move
I got one yesterday at the local Verizon store. It seems like a pretty nice phone. I like the build quality. The camera auto-focus seems hit-or-miss - that's a huge disappointment to me. Overall I prefer (and am still using) the HTC 10 as my main phone.
FWIW, I would never buy a phone as expensive as the Pixel with my own money. I got the smaller screen with the smaller memory capacity and it was still over $700 US. Lucky for me the company I work for paid for it.

I checked out and had a play with both Pixel and Pixel xl a few days ago at JB Hifi. Although I liked the Google assist and great camera, the price couldn't be justified, especially here in Australia $1419 [USD $1080] for the 128gb XL version. I love my HTC 10, a great smartphone, and will stay with this for a while. Maybe when the market adjusts by Christmas or after New Years, the price will come down hundreds of dollars, as Pixel will be old news by then, until they launch their new version. As PocketNow stated, Pixel is quite boring from an aesthetic point of view.
Ps. Telstra carrier has exclusivity with Pixel and Pixel XL, and I can't stand their lying customer service so I'll never use their service again personally. JB Hifi sells them, but no deals atm.

Nope...i get why Google would want to come out with something like the Pixel. It basically follows the Apple's strategy with the iPhone...which, whether you hate iPhones or not, is a business model that equals high profits. Its just that if they had taken this approach a long time ago they would actually have something. These days though, the Android market is too saturated with quality phones @ low prices for the Pixel to gain any traction

I agree, and I looked at a display model pixel xl at a verizon corporate store and honestly holding it, it feels cheaply made in my hand compared to my unlocked Htc 10. My Htc 10 feels more rigid and solid, like it is made of aluminum and the pixel xl in my hand feels like its plastic, I mean like there is basically nothing to it. To me you go too small and light weight and it can make it feel cheap and weak.
Anyone feel that way holding a pixel xl compared to your Htc 10 ?

I held both and don't necessarily agree. The 10 is definitely heavier, but it doesn't necessarily feel like it's more "solidly built." I don't like rear fingerprint scanners (have it on the One Max). The Pixel is definitely more slim, sorta like the A9. That could appeal to some.

To me the Htc 10 feels stronger. The pixel xl felt really light compared to it and it just felt weaker. If they do a bend test on a pixel xl as they did the Htc 10 I bet its no where near as rigid as the 10. I went a head and bought one any way, but it will definitely go in to a nice sturdy case but I definitely would never use one without a case. I think the less weight of the pixel xl compared to the Htc 10 is they either made the aluminum case thinner or the used less metal inside, and the pixel xl is even a bigger phone, so I definitely would recommend a strong sturdy case to everyone using a pixel xl. But I guess to the masses lighter is better. I just also felt the pixel xl in my hand really seemed so light like it might not want to stay in your hand as well but maybe that is just me being use to the beefier Htc 10.
I think we can all agree that the specs just don't warrant the price premium. A quick check on Swappa is showing as some used 10's going for $375. If you have to have Verizon this is the best phone (price wise) we can get. If the One Plus 3 worked with Verizon it might be a different story.
I pulled the trigger on a verizon pixel xl. It went against my better judgment, because of no sd card slot, no dual speakers, the fingerprint scanner on the back hate that put it on the front like the Htc 10, then there is the fact that its not as rigid as the 10. I got it because of the bigger screen and the quicker updates.
I purchased from Best buy and I got a $200 best buy gift card. Actually it came the following day after I ordered on their web site, via email. I also got a free chromecast.
If Htc made a bigger screen 10 plus and a dev edition or google play edition that got quick updates then I would have bought it but since Htc's m7 max fiasco they wont make another phablet for here. I have no problem with Htc sense and I like Htc products as they are the best built phones. Hopefully next spring the Htc 11 has a plus model with a 5.7 or 5.9 screen and get the dev or google play fast updates like lets say with in 2 weeks of google releasing system updates, just something way better than 90 days. If they release the dev or gp models they can have updates out with in 2 weeks as its pure stock android. I just want quick updates.

This is exactly what made my decision. I was on the M8 and waited until after the Pixel was announced to make my choice. I ended up buying a used HTC 10 for $375 (ironically) and I love it! Most of the posts here agreed that the Pixel wasn't enough of an upgrade over the 10 to justify the price and so I figured why not.
Now I have not even seen a Pixel in person yet so I really can't compare, but I know I'm happy with my M8 to 10 transition.

Don't really see the point in spending hundreds on another 2016 flagship when you already have a 2016 flagship. You'll have more of a difference saving that money and getting a 2017 flagship.

I was considering it, but then CM 13 came out, so I could satisfy my desire for a stock android feel. CM 13 is actually surprisingly stable for what I need it for, and Android N-ify is fully functional, so I had no problem with not have Nougat either.
Well- I grabbed a 32gb Silver for $480 from a guy here - I am testing it this weekend - already rooted and Hotspot working - I will see how I like it - thought it was a good deal so WHY NOT. Still Love my HTC but I run with this for a bit and see how it compares
I was trying to sell one pixel 2 xl on swappa and the prices are going crazy low. How are all these people selling new 128 GB for just $700ish range ? The phone isn't really that old yet.
Verizon's running a $300 off on it.
I'm noticing the same thing. I considered selling my 2 XL and picking up a OnePlus 5T. When I took a look at pricing on SWAPPA I was very surprised to see the current prices people are selling the phone for. Previously, the Nexus/Pixel line-up held their value much better than what I'm seeing with the current 2 XL. It's sad but I think it can be chalked up to all the bad publicity this phone keeps receiving. Talk of these issues is seemingly more widespread than I thought.
For instance, on Christmas day a family member was checking out my phone and even though he is not a tech guy by any means, even he brought up the screen burn-in issues as well as the speaker buzzing noise issues. It threw me off, to be honest. Especially considering that this is a guy who never researches phones and has stuck with the Galaxy phone line-up simply because I recommended it to him like 3 years ago.
There is a reason why both Google and the carriers have already dropped the price. It sucks and it's directly affecting resale value.
On the plus side, I've experienced no issues with my device and it's the best phone I've ever owned. So this is just a good nudge for me to hold onto it and enjoy it longer, rather than making a jump to something else and inevitably regretting it.
Add to this, the starting prices were up there with the iPhone X and Samsung Note 8! Previously Nexus phones were a good bit cheaper than the highest premium phones...this is why they were able to hold value longer.
True. Personally, I don't consider Verizon to be a viable option because it is locked down. It equates to a regular Samsung phone at this point that is locked, but that is not what everyone thinks.
What really gets me is the price. Google did not do any price drops, they just did the holiday specials which was like 50 or 75 bucks.
But on swappa some people are selling the 128 for about 700 bucks. I don't know how they're getting the phones so cheap to sell them for that price. I hope the phone doesn't end up being like the essential phone what the pricing

Touchwiz on a Sammy device is not quite the same as having a Google device, whether or not you bl unlock, but that's just me. Anyway, they are selling for closer to $800 new or mint. On the Google store you can get a brand new one for about $875. But perhaps you are forgetting about the trade in too. I can trade in my old Pixel and get another $300+ off that price. So I really don't think it has lost as much value as you suspect. And as for the Verizon branded one I paid $350 on BF (Pixel XL) with no trade in. If I sold it for $650 and used my old Pixel for another year I just netted close to 3 hundred. Personally, I think we're doing ok so far. Let's see in 6 months, however.

True. I am hoping it doesn't plunge down..I just think the google one should and would hold the price against the Verizon one. It's like in the old days, Verizon and att phones had lower prices used than the T-Mobile ones because of the unlocked bl stuff.
Maybe I am just mad that since the pixel XL last year held up the price value well for a few months and didn't really drop dramatically except when the pixel 2 s were announced.

As for last year you really can't compare, unfortunately. Google didn't give 5 cents off the Pixel or the XL even on black Friday. Verizon had one day, and that was BF, that they gave a tremendous deal of $10 / month and $15 for the XL for 24 months. That was it! Eventually they had a lame trade in deal but nothing from Google. This year is way different. There is really no reason to be spending more than 4 or 5 hundred for any of the devices with trade in at Google and VZW. I mean I believe that VZW even has a $300 off with no trade in! But then you're locked into them for 2 years and no bl unlock. So I believe that the price will not drop past the 6 or 7 number for some time. But I've been wrong once or twice..

Touchwiz has come a long way imo. The note 8 is a beast and it runs touchwiz, it junk back on like S3 & S4 but now it is great!
Also the pixel has $300+ off but I got $425 off my note 8 and had it the day it was released thanks to a preorder! I think I was like $570 ish for the note 8 out the door and shipped so the $300 off for the pixel seems quite small now! Let's see what it is in 6 months glad I sent my first few pixels back and got the newer $75 off savings!

I've gotta agree with this. I was pleasantly surprised with the Touchwiz UI on my Galaxy S8. It never stuttered or lagged and was just as fast as my previous Pixel XL and current Pixel 2 XL. Touchwiz really has come a long way. The same cannot be said for the LG V30, however. LG's skin on that phone is absolutely horrible. It lags/stutters/hangs constantly and no matter how many LG apps you disable, it doesn't fix it.
If LG would have just refrained from touching the OS on that phone and left it with stock Android, I never would have bought my 2 XL to begin with. Such a sad let down. The V30 is just collecting dust on my office shelf. I need to take it back to T-Mobile but I keep forgetting about it.

I'd agree with this as well. My last Samsung device was the GS7 Edge and I was quite impressed. The performance was great and while not quite as fluid as the Pixel, was very consistent and stable, never slowing down over time. I think Samsung's kitchen sink approach from years past has paid off in the sense that the software additions they've kept are generally pretty useful and thoughtful additions not available in the pure Android experience.

I agree they have good hardware but their software is just plain awful! Send the v30 to me I'll test on Verizon!!

Yeah you should try the s8 or note 8. They are extremely fluid compared to the pixel not quite as fluid but very very close. Also the extra ram in note is helpful especially with the kitchen sink approach

Eh, I'd prefer to turn the V30 in for nothing in return but then I'd lose my JUMP On-Demand. So I'll probably just trade the V30 in on a super cheap $5/month phone to have as a back-up, just in case.
