So, I just rooted my device, I'm quite the noob but have a question. How do I change my custom recovery?
Right now, I'm on TWRP custom recovery and want to change to Clockworkmod.
What I really want to do is to flash Cyanogenmod 10.1. I've heard that you have to be using Clockworkmod. Is that true?
So two questions really:
How do I change my custom recovery?
And do I need Clockworkmod to flash Cyanogenmod?
How did you changed the Custom recovery to TWRP? Did you use a toolkit? With a toolkit you can change the Custom recoverey.
I cannot say if CWM is recommended to CM, I think CM should run with TWRP.

I just followed QBKing's tutorial and TWRP was installed. And being the noob that I am, I just found out about GooManager, is it safe to flash the ROM from there? I don't want to screw up my device and brick it or something.
Clockworkmod is the only supported recovery for Cyanogenmod, as in the only recovery they recomend. However, any recovery will work. That being said the process is simple. You download your recovery of choice, here is TWRP http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/mako the boot your phone into fastboot mode "adb reboot bootloader" or power down and hold volume down and power. From there put your img file into the path of your fastboot binary or in other words put it in the same folder as fastboot. Then in terminal or CMD type "fastboot devices" and you should see a serial number. If you do then type "fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img" and you're good to go. Cheers mate if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

That covers it! Thanks man! Just one simple question, is it safe to use TWRP and use GooManager to flash Cyanogenmod? Or should I do it through the recovery?

CM 10.1 has automatic updating built in (CM updater; you can find it under Settings - About phone - CyanogenMod updates) so you don't really have to worry about GooManager. It should work fine with TWRP though.

hello guys this guide helps you to root your nexus 4 (4.3) and install custom recovery
things needed
1)superuser http://d-h.st/Hhw
2)twrp http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/mako/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-mako.img
3)andriod sdk (google it)
* [dont have sdk? then download this http://d-h.st/jCU a replacement for sdk/platformtools (this tools include stuff for windows, linux and mac too.)]
4)adb drivers installed (follow the below mentioned guide)
note:- this is almost same process as this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018179 but just updated for 4.3 version
ROOTING process
1)I hope your boot loader is unlocked, if not first unlock it and then start the rooting process and turn on usb debugging (follow above mentioned guide for unlocking bootloader and to turn on usb debugging) after unlocking bootloader reboot device and then copy root.zip(links above) into your phones storage and then reboot to fastboot
2)now download the twrp recovery image and rename it to twrp and move it to sdk/platform tools. in the same directory(i.e platformtools directory) open cmd prompt(to open cmd prompt press shift+rightclick at the same time and select open cmd prmpt window option) and type (without quotes) "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" and thats it you have flashed twrp
3)now go to twrp (recovery mode) and flash the root.zip (that u copied to the phones storage earlier) and that's it u have obtained the root access.

Hi,
I can suggest you some thing but i am not responsible if u bricked your device do it at your own risk
I had same issue " waiting for device" SO you need to install correct drivers for your device i can suggest you to download nexus 4 toolkit version 2 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995688 and you need disconnect your nexus from usb and open your toolkit and you need :
1.choose option 13 "13. Android 4.2.2 [Build JDQ39]" (I know that your version is 4.3 but the drivers for PC is samething)
2.It will download drivers for your pc
3.Now choose option 1 that say " 1. Install Device Drivers on your PC [DO THIS FIRST] [UnPlug Device First] "
4. After driver installation you can close this tool and try again to flash your recovery like you did it before with (See above "ROOTING process")
Let me know if you succeed
Good luck
When I try to load the YT vid it says "invalid request"...
Oh its more than a vid. I am sorry in the android app it doesnt show the whole post for any reason.
And why download the whole sdk? Grab the platform tools from efrant's tutorial on how to flash a factory image. Then just place the desired recovery in the same directory and you can flash the recovery.

I actually found this today:

they say:
the new version of bootloader shipped with Android 4.3 factory image changed some of the "fastboot boot" command so you need to specify a kernel commandline to use "fastboot boot" command.

Try flashing with the app provided below, will do either a zip or a img file. Just make sure your new Recovery file has been Loki'd.

everything went fine until i typed adb reboot recovery
followed the guides on here to flash TWRP, finally got everything flashed through adb and when i went to the final step to reboot in to recovery it said "error : device not found" .... Is this normal? should i just unplug/replug and try the reboot bootloader command again? It said the image was loki verified and flashed succesfully, but when i typed in reboot recovery it said "error: device not found" any advice/help is much appreciated

Ok well it's simple after adb devices it should list your device as a bunch of numbers and should say recovery next to it, then make sure that the Rom you want is in the folder with all adb stuff and in philz navigate to install zip and click install via sideload and from adb type adb sideload Rom.zip(of course replace Rom with the actual name and don't forget to sideload the kkbaseband.zip)

Hello,
I have an old, fully working G2 and try to install root (and then TWRP) before giving it to my daughter.
My PC has PC Suite installed, recognizes G2 when connected, and all entries in Device Manager looks OK.
All tools that I found on the network start the rooting process, push the files, succeed to enter download mode and then get stuck at "firmware download mode" - it never moves from 0%. The phone can be power-cycled to reboot to the OS, and happily works ever after (unrooted).
Any help will be appreciated,
Try Kingroot...

Hi again....
Okay please try the above tool....
All the details are on the web page....
I tried this tool it certainly had a good go at rooting my phone
and maybe this helped the Kingroot program to work
Hope the works if Kingroot doesn't work either....
If you do manage to root your phone I recommend resurrection remix ROM
Its fast and very well supported....

Yep.
Finally, after 3-4 attempts (including PC reboots, driver reinstallations etc)
the following method worked:

Brilliant!...
Are you installing resurrection remix after you have a custum recovery installed?

Currently I am trying to install TWRP.
When I try to enter recovery mode I get "fastboot mode started" instead. Tried
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.2-g2rog.img
and from adb shell:
Code:
su
dd if=/storage/emulated/0/twrp.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
doesn't work
I have G2 802, international, but can't find twrp image for this model on TWRP site,so I tried image for Rogers ...
Tried also TWRP manager app ...
autorec d802...lollipop ........on playstore.....
Okay......please try installing Twrp....by using AUTOREC D802 lollipop....
from the google play store....
This is a brilliant way to install Twrp....so quick
I had a similar problem....
Let us know if it works ....thanks
For me - after unsuccessful attempts with OneClickRecovery and SRKTool , i was able to root with Kingroot ,and after that to instal TWRP with Autorec d802 Lollipop ,as you said.

In order to flash TWRP with AutoRec, do I need a specific bootstack?
I have a D802 and I'm currently on lastest Lollipop firmware, and I haven't root it.
I was on stock lollipop.

Tried Autorec - does nothing. When I click on the "candy" that should initiate recovery install - nothing happens.
I tried to install using TWRP manager app, and using adb shell commands - I get error messages (something about critical error, and prompt to enter download mode or reboot) when entering recovery mode. Phone itself continues to be fully functional (and rooted), just without recovery mode.

yes for aosp'd and cm's you need hybrid to boot into system. unless is resurrection remix i think that uses JB bootstacks something like that. be sure to flash hybrid and then reboot the recovery to take efeect. so reboot into recovery from recovery not to system then flash rom.
Try to reinstall old LG driver (LGUnitedMobileDriver_S51MAN313AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.13.2.exe). After installing old driver 3.13 instead 3.14 it works
