Hello,
I have an old, fully working G2 and try to install root (and then TWRP) before giving it to my daughter.
My PC has PC Suite installed, recognizes G2 when connected, and all entries in Device Manager looks OK.
All tools that I found on the network start the rooting process, push the files, succeed to enter download mode and then get stuck at "firmware download mode" - it never moves from 0%. The phone can be power-cycled to reboot to the OS, and happily works ever after (unrooted).
Any help will be appreciated,
Try Kingroot...
Hi I had similar issue with g2 802...couldn't get it to go into download mode when connected to PC...
Ended up using Kingroot to root device...
and...
autorec twrp for kitkat...to install TWRP
Hope this helps

I can enter the download mode without problem, and OS is not KitKat. I tried StompRoot - but if refused to root the phone, wrote "Phone is patched, sorry". Will try Kingroot tonight.
Srk tool....try this excellent program/software....
Hi again....
Okay please try the above tool....
All the details are on the web page....
I tried this tool it certainly had a good go at rooting my phone
and maybe this helped the Kingroot program to work
Hope the works if Kingroot doesn't work either....
If you do manage to root your phone I recommend resurrection remix ROM
Its fast and very well supported....

Yep.
Finally, after 3-4 attempts (including PC reboots, driver reinstallations etc)
the following method worked:

Currently I am trying to install TWRP.
When I try to enter recovery mode I get "fastboot mode started" instead. Tried
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.2-g2rog.img
and from adb shell:
Code:
su
dd if=/storage/emulated/0/twrp.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
doesn't work
I have G2 802, international, but can't find twrp image for this model on TWRP site,so I tried image for Rogers ...
Tried also TWRP manager app ...
autorec d802...lollipop ........on playstore.....
Okay......please try installing Twrp....by using AUTOREC D802 lollipop....
from the google play store....
This is a brilliant way to install Twrp....so quick
I had a similar problem....
Let us know if it works ....thanks
For me - after unsuccessful attempts with OneClickRecovery and SRKTool , i was able to root with Kingroot ,and after that to instal TWRP with Autorec d802 Lollipop ,as you said.

In order to flash TWRP with AutoRec, do I need a specific bootstack?
I have a D802 and I'm currently on lastest Lollipop firmware, and I haven't root it.
I was on stock lollipop.

Tried Autorec - does nothing. When I click on the "candy" that should initiate recovery install - nothing happens.
I tried to install using TWRP manager app, and using adb shell commands - I get error messages (something about critical error, and prompt to enter download mode or reboot) when entering recovery mode. Phone itself continues to be fully functional (and rooted), just without recovery mode.

yes for aosp'd and cm's you need hybrid to boot into system. unless is resurrection remix i think that uses JB bootstacks something like that. be sure to flash hybrid and then reboot the recovery to take efeect. so reboot into recovery from recovery not to system then flash rom.
Try to reinstall old LG driver (LGUnitedMobileDriver_S51MAN313AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.13.2.exe). After installing old driver 3.13 instead 3.14 it works

I just got my LG G2 back from service. There was no warranty involved at all but I still left it with stock. When I got it back i noticed that the phone had been updated to the 80220H firmware. The batterylife is amazing but I miss Cloudy G3....
Is there any possibility to downgrade so I can get root and custom recovery back? Any way to do it with a tool from a PC?
Best regards

Try to root with strump apk or ioroot, install autorec apk for custom recovery and follow the OP instructions to instructions to flash cloudyg3 or whatever.....
To return to stock, download kdz file for our phone model and use LG flash tools, do a factory reset.

Well... Strump wants to "use bruteforce" because the phone isn´t supported, thanx to the 80220H update. Same thing with Towelroot. The question is, do I dare to try it? The agressive methot, I mean.

Use ioroot http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/ioroot/ioroot.zip, in sideload method, it works fine.
Enable Developer Mode on the phone and enable USB Debugging.
From the PC, with phone connected in usb , tape adb cmd: adb reboot recovery
The phone reboot in the stock recovery, in the menu go to "Apply update from ADB".
In the PC, extract datroot.zip from ioroot archive (in bts folder), and tape adb cmd : adb sideload datroot.zip.
That's all, enjoy and thank @autoprime and @thecubed

i cant use lg tool to flash back 20g ... phone cant detect and original update tool show me optimus g3 1.4.1 rom. and its no emergency recovery for it
any solution ?
hello all.
im using a G2 D800 AT&T, and since i have a tethering problem which i was assured would be fixed if i installed a new ROM.
so i went ahead with a guide for cloudyg3 rom, rooted using towelroot and verified with root checker, all is well.
installed TWRP with freegee- the TWRP version was 2.6.3.3 and i was told i needed to upgrade it to at least 2.7.1.. thats where problems started.
i couldnt for the life of me upgrade it to any version, 2.7.1 or higher, and TWRP showed a loki.sh problem. thought maybe unrooting and starting the process all over would fix it so i deleted all my apps, then unrooted with supersu.
tried to root with towelroot and no go. immediately after trying to root, root chekcer gave me a "device is not rooted" answer (before there was no problem), and the device reboots just after im trying to remove towelroot from the task manager (center button).
did i mess up my phone so it cant root? is there a way to check that\ other root methods?
please help
Try other methods like ioroot and if still not working flash a new kdz via download mode and reroot with some method. And btw you can easily update twrp by flashing just a zip but don't forget to restart the recovery after flashing and restore defaults under setting. And next time try autorec

first, thanks for your help.
second, i got the device rooted and all, installed TWRP through freegee and downloaded newer version (2.7.1),
and when i booted the device into TWRP mode and tried updating to 2.7.1. , THE SAME THING HAPPEND AS BEFORE-
i just cant update the twrp to more than 2.6.3.3., no matter what version i try (2.7.1 or higher).
getting error message of: assert failed: run_program (temp\loki.sh)
error executing updater binary in zip \sdcard
error flasing zip \sdcard\download\...
updating partition details.
and getting two options: wipe chache\ dalvik, and reboot system.
this happend to me with EVERY TWRP UPDATE I TRY...
and from my understanding i must update twrp to more than 2.6.3.3 before trying to flash new roms.
thats the problem i had before as well, device simply wouldnt update to more than 2.6.3.3
thanks...
I rooted with towelroot then used AutoRec (link) to install TWRP on mine then updated to 2.8.3.1 from blastagator (link) via the older TWRP I installed.
WTF...PROBLEM
i installed autorec, clicked okay and got into the twrp boot recovery mode again, and tried to instal new version with same failed result (pictures added).
but then, i clicked on reboot, device rebooted, BUT DIDNT BOOT BACK TO NORMAL SCREEN.
now the screen is black with a green\blue led that keeps flashing and wont stop.
computer recognizes the device when connected with a USB.

tried turning it on or pressing the volume down+power button but nothing (i added a picture). computer wont recognize the phone either.
when i try to call the phone is off
please help
the phone seemed to be in twrp 2.7.0 although it showed me a failed result
I'm not very sure but maybe its was something from the freegee app... you should't have any loki error
So your screen its COMPLETELY black?.. even you hold the power button or something it didnt show anything on screen?...at least if you hold the power button the led stops to flash?
UPDATE
so after i did hard factory reset i am in boot recovery mode, with a twrp version of 2.7.0.0
still cant get past the LG logo (LED keeps flashing) but at least i can be in recovery mode.
computer recognizes that the phone is connected with USB but cant get it to appear as MTP
thanks
i read up and i THINK im in a boot loop.
maybe i was really stupid- are you suppose to use autorec only on kitkat devices and nothing else? my device is 4.2.2.
Yea, I'm on the same boat. I was on 10b (4.2.2) tried using freegee. Freegee said it didn't support my device went to auto rec. Auto rec managed to flash trwp made the backup then was told to reboot the phone. Then I got the same black screen with the blue green led. I plugged in he phone to the computer and pressed volume up and the power button and I got the hard reset option. I confirmed the hard and now I have rebooted into twrp.
Word of the wise: once in trwp don't restore your backup. It doesn't work. See other thread on this.

Tried twrp, but always says I don't have busybox and says loading, but never does, then on install recov, it DL's, but then comes up with an error: Flashing recovery was unsuccessful.
Gives partition as: /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/recovery
No such partition on LG Leon LTE (h345, flashed from MPCS to T-Mob h345d, only way to get a working root)
Anyone else having this issue?

I had to downgrade to an h345d kdz variant in order to get a working root. That worked, but it was a MPCS phone (on Tmo network) flashed to a Tmo kdz. Worked. I'd think if you Sbrick it, you could still re-flash with stock from recov., so not that big a deal.

I'm a newbie when it comes to rooting however I successfully rooted my H34510e using KingRoot. I verified root and BusyBox installation using Root Checker Basic. Take your phone, open your internet browser and go to http://www.kingroot.net/
Download the app, open it, follow the steps and you're root!
I have the same phone H340AR v10a ROM, from Uruguay.
Try that, it worked for me.
About TWRP I tried c50 version of TWRP Team, but it doesn't work.. You install the image and when reboot it shows the android robot opened up and nothing comes up.. I installed the TWRP using the "dd if=/dev/ bla bla bla" command..
Some help it wouldn't be bad.

Hey XDA!
I updated my LG G Pad 8.3 to the korean stock 5.0.2 a while back, and now I wanted the AOSP Marshmallow rom on it - but I had no root or recovery!
Turn out (after three hours of infinite searches and no progress) that the solution is really easy - and can be done on the tablet with no PC!
Just enable USB debugging, download the KingRoot app (http://www.kingroot.net/) and let it root the device for you - it loads pretty slow but works great.
Then follow this link to install TWRP (https://twrp.me/devices/lggpad83.html) by following their link to the Play Store. Install the TWRP app, select your device (v500) and the latest recovery image, then confirm the recovery location and let it install the recovery image for you. Mine gave an error but booted right into TWRP afterwards despite saying failed.
And that is it!

I have the same issue.
root ok
twrp 2.8.7 ok
reboot to recovery stay on the boot logo with "boot certification verify problem" error.
Tried quick boot same issue ...
I tried KingRoot a few months ago and had similar problems. It was kind of like a partial root that worked of a fashion but not completely.
The only way I know of to go from Lollipop to a custom ROM is to download a KitKat kdz and flash it through the Mobile Tool and then root that. Quite a hassle - and one I'm just about to start now.
I've been off the V500 forum for a little while, so maybe there is a better solution out there.
I only rooted because I'm scared of bootloop since in this thread still no answer on how to boot to recovery.
Actually I installed and used successfully an ad blocker and titanium but SuperSU can't be installed because of the missing twrp.
I hope that the thread creator will answer on how to go to recovery.

Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had to install - uninstall KingRoot 2-3 times before SuperSU would work. Lost root access the two first times I replaced KingRoot with SuperSU, but suddenly it worked
When installing recovery image with twrp I get a message that installation failed, but anyway twrp reports that recovery image is installed. (Same thing happened with KingRoot, but then recovery image was not installed)
When I try to boot in to recovery I get the annoying boot error message
Just flashed my G pad V500 20f with Hongkong v50030b. Applied root using this tutorial here. It works. Thank you.
Then, replaced Kinguser with Supersu from the link provided by @FandangoL. Success. Thank you. Pad works great now. As happy as a clam...
UPDATE : is it me ? or with Hongkong v500 30b, it doesn't allow stock recovery mode. Screen just stayed on android lying down exclamation mark. Tried all button combo hold power then tap vol up etc etc .. but none worked.
Read in Google+ Lg G Pad 8.3 forum :
Hi guys, I need your help. I just flashed the Hong Kong version of 5.0.2 to my gpad using LG Flash Tool 2014 and everything went well. Now I found out that there is a 5.1 update in the net for gpad and I even manage to download it. But the problem is that the update file is in zip format which means that I cannot use the Flash tool and it seems that LG disable recovery mode to allow sideloading of update zip files. I really don't want to install custom recovery so if anyone of you have any idea of what I can do to flash this update, please help.
Finally got TWRP to work
Next step is to install cm-13.0
Followed this post to get TWRP working. Had some problems regarding location of *.img files. But if you read the thread I have explained what I had to do.

I have went through many tutorials but none of them were able to help me with flashing custom recovery(TWRP). My LG G3 D855 was rooted with towelroot(I think long time ago). I do not know how can I unlock my bootloader or I don't know if it is already unlocked(Picked it off craiglist long time ago). Phone is stuck in fastboot mode. I have tried to fix but I could not. There is no 'download mode'.
Could you please explain each and every step in detail? I really want to reboot my device with a custom ROM.
Phone is running Androind 4.4.2.
So guys? Any help? Just tell me how can I remove that fastboot mode that appears when I restart my device for recovery.

Have you flashed TWRP already?
I have a an D855, I don't think you have to worry about a locked bootloader Mate,
but it was a long time since I got rid of the LG crap, because it was the first thing I did after buying new!
You're on 4.4.2 with towel root so it should very simple to download and flash TWRP using the official TWRP app in Playstore or using an app like Flashify etc.
I basically lost my S7 Edge a week ago so I'm back using my old LG G3 now running Resurrection Remix 5.8(Nougat 7.1.2. AOSP based)
If you wanna run anything using Aroma installer then don't go later than TWRP 3.0.0. for now, because the newer versions don't work.
Either download the Quickboot app to boot to recovery or search on Youtube on how to boot to recovery from off..

The problem is, there is no recovery. Even though flashing TWRP via flashify resulted in nothing but an error showing "Fastboot mode started" when I tapped on option named "Reboot to recovery". This is the main problem I am facing. I can flash, upgrade/downgrade and etc but this fastboot mode thing is something beyond what I can fix with my current knowledge.

Maybe first flash back stock, update to the latest firmware and start fresh from there?
There are some good guides in the forums here for that.
Cheers

If you've to go back to firmware, don't install the newest. Rooting needs an older version. Also described in root-threads here.
