New here - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

Hey guys! Just got myself an S7 Edge yesterday and would like to root it, but I'm clueless when it comes to phones. I've rooted and debloated my Galaxy Tab S, but that's it. I just want to make sure I don't mess up this beauty.
Can anyone point me to the first step?

Yea, I felt really stupid after posting this. I continued looking through the forum and realized I had somehow looked right over that thread! ? Thanks for taking the time to point the way though. It's appreciated!

First be sure what kind edge you have snapdragon or exynox if you have exynox basically is easy but it's snapdragon has to work little bit more (sorry for my English)

The S7 Edge is powered by either a 2.15GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or 2.3 GHz Exynos 8890 processor, depending on region, and comes with 4GB of RAM.
Qualcomm processors found by US carriers have locked bootloaders.
Exynos found in other countries (with some exception) are unlocked.
Rooting methods are totally different.

Why worry? Even if you mess up you can just flash it. Which is reinstalling the version.

I'm not so much worried as I am just being cautious because I next to nothing of bootloader's and such. I've never done anything "advanced" with an Android phone. It's always been with wifi-only devices.

[Q] Which One to Buy ? Dev will support ?

Obviously we are all waiting for the Note 4, yet it's Pricey.
Now comes the hard question.
Which one to buy ? and
Which will the Dev support ? (Future Proofing)
N910C or N910S
Snapdragon over Exynos
We all saw it in the S4 between the 9505 and 9500 so I don't want to get stuck in the same loop.
Please advise at the earliest since all the articles on the Web refer to Chip variants and differences yet no one has a solid answer to which will be supported and would be considered as a real investment. I hear the Exynos is benchmarked with 40K therefore exceeding our favorite Snapdragon chip !?
That makes it even worse to decide
International version is snapdragon if u care about custom stuff go for it.

Kinda. There's now multiple international versions and some are Exynos (some of Europe, Aus, NZ, HK and Korea)

I think the exynos version(s) this time around may prove to be a bit more popular because the believe (uncertain) that the 5433 will run 64bit (future proofing).

Tough to say, All of the USA market will have snapdragon, as will many other countries. That means there will be a greater percentage of "market share" of the S805 version with a better chance of having dev support on it.
Snapdragon
This is a million dollar question right here...

u planning on doing any dev work on this thing, or just gonna enjoy it?
I can't decide between the white or the black myself; I'd get the gold one just to be different, but, it wont be out for awhile, so dont want to wait for it..
As soon as i have the files i plan on working on recovery and if I get bored enough maybe more.

hahaha that's so true. Snap will have better dev support and GPU while the exynos MIGHT be 64bit enabled anytime soon and is definitely faster, but still not sure of how faster in daily use. Now it's up to you and wait for more information to come. For now, that's about it.

you give me far too much credit, i port recoveries and do minor things. bootloader exploits are beyond my scope of even understanding how many actually work.
The Exynos model should be faster, better on battery, and possibly offer 64-bit down the road. I'm going with that one.

no root!

has anyone tried rooting it through the s6 or s6 edge method?
Not until an exploit in 5.1.1 is found.
Locked bootloaders are the devil I tell you!
My VZW Edge is still on 5.02, rooted with ping pong and flashed with flashfire. Easiest with locked bootloader.
5.1.1, I'm afraid, is locked pretty damn tight.
May be a while.

My bad, I'm stuck in AT&T land and forgot this was a general forum. My bad lol.
Not sure about the chainfire method but it might be worth a shot.
Sucks for us At&t and Verizon users.

none
Samsung has put up a challenge to our sharpest Developer's. I'm guessing that Samsung's actions can be defeated eventually, someone will do it just to upset Samsung, and to prove that XDA's Devs are just as good, if not better that their's so when will they get root? who knows, but you can almost guarantee that it's being worked on as this is being written.

If anything this will get more onboard to find an exploit.
This is a brand new device, it will be exploited!
As it matures and these exploits are patched it gets harder as in next to impossible.
The same thing happens in iOS land.
Game of cat and mouse.
Just need to be a smarter cat.
And have patience.
Lots of patience.
One thing I can say is this (S6Edge+) has to be the smoothest out of the box Android experience ever! And on Verizon, that's saying a lot!
So (can't believe I'm actually saying, well technically posting, this!) using it stock isn't hateful at all!
Compared to the VZW Note4, I feel like I've gone from a dinghy to a sportfish!
Not sure if having the extra GB of RAM has anything to do with it or not...
But yes this with AOSP would be pure candy.

Sd 820 s7 edge in the Uk?

Is there anyway i can get the s7 sd 820 for the uk ,unlocked. I know that china has it but it doesnt have the samsing logo at the front, i know its a minor difference but i dont like it. And i dont think it has the bands required for it to work in the uk, correct me if im wrong. Thanks!

Just live with it. Exynos runs cooler anyways

I was a bit gutted when I found out UK wouldn't be getting sd820 version as I have never had a phone with Samsung's own SOC however after doing a bit more reading my nerves are settled. Seem you not gonna notice any changed in day to day use. I never run custom ROMs so it not too bad. I'm actually looking forward too it now. Would be nice if the logo on the front was gone tho see your point on that

Why would anyone switch to aosp when you lose all the Samsung TouchWiz features? Why not just get another phone?

Down the line when it stops getting support and i said that the sd version will get better tw support so its better to have the sd 820
Looks like battery drain problems on sd.
I was thinking of sd820 to purely because of new feature introduced called trusignal which boost your reception.
Exynos will probably have better dac and perform better with the Samsung.
I'm just thinking of it as how well does apples processors work with their phones as they are made for them, so surely samsung must have really tuned the exynos to work well with samsung devices with least battery drain.
Thanks

Xfinity Mobile S8 appears to be Exenyos variant.

https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/shop/device/galaxy-s8-samsung?colorName=Arctic Silver
Take this with a really big dose of salt but the specs listed on this page point to the Exenyos version. Can anyone on Xfinity mobile confirm? I ordered one just for giggles and it'll be here wednesday.
S8+ on xfinity is not exynos.
I'm not sure what specs you're referring to. The specifications match the Snapdragon 835's specs exactly.
*EDIT*
Nevermind, I was looking at band information, you must be looking at clock speed. Probably a typo.
I got mine last week, per CPU-Z, SnapDragon 835 2.36 Ghz.

I'm guessing this is a mistake by their part, as all US variants are snapdragon
