It's a zip file not apk. By the never heard of it.

It's not an apk. It's a desktop app, but I can't figure out what it's for, because it needs login and I am denied access ....

I want to download the "XDA Free App" as an apk file and I found this site http://www.xda-developers.com/xda-android-app/ but that's not what I want. Normaly I downloaded my apps from some developers websites and not from the playstore. Is there a place here on xda-developers.com where I can download the app?

try googleing "xda free app apk"? what you find might not be legal but its on you to use what you like
why you don't use XDA app from Google play ?, it's free, fast and clean.

This or download Opera Mobiile and add xda as favorite is fast and easy
Or do you want to download apps as apk? If this you want you can run APK manager it convert any application to apk file so you can install later...

yes that's what I mean. I want to download the xda.apk for a later install.
I use some other apps (e.g. cgeo, vlc, oruxmaps, geocachecalculator, k9mail, osmand) on my u8800 and on all these websites there is an opinion for download the apk directly.

Install real apk leecher on your pc, then search and download the apk. This program can download to your pc all the available apps on the market for you phone/region.

Hi,
I tried it, however after setting up the proxy to my local IP (tried all types of IP addresses, none worked) in the WP8 Wifi settings, I simply couldn't load any page anymore with the phone - the internet was dead to it. Not even the certificate could be accessed.
I was using a computer attached to my home wireless router through cable, also tried accessing a computer that is directly connected to the internet, didn't work.
Did you check your program's functionality in other configurations as well?

@xdevilium: Nice work! I am hoping to write an on-phone solution for this, but it turns out that implementing a proxy server using the APIs avaialble for WP8 apps is a pain. Well done on simplifying the use of an existing app like Fiddler.

I'm working on a WPF version of this app, more user friendly
BTW is it even possible to configure proxy from an app on WP?
I would like to see other marketplaces, kind of like a Marketplace Changer like we had with Windows Phone 7.8
For example, I am on Verizon with a Nokia 928, I would like to access AT&T apps and HTC apps...I even want a app from LG's marketplace...
it works!
But most Nokia apps will not install on my Ativ S , I was able to install the at&t locker app , lets get some HTC apps!

sorry for late answer, with this tool you can update your lumia phone via usb, or recover a bricked phone..

The easiest way is to get the official bits from Microsoft directly. Install the "Preview for Developers" app from the store (it's free), and then run it. If you aren't dev-unlocked yet, you'll need to use the Windows Phone Developer Registration tool (it's part of the free WP8 SDK from Microsoft). Once developer preview mode is active, just go to the Settings hub -> Phone Update and check for updates; there should be three or four I think.
You can probably do it using the Nokia tool too, but the method I just described will work for all phones.

only if its a free app and its best to post the link to the playstore rather than the apk - that way people will always be able to download the latest version
