Thinking of picking this up at Best Buy but I've never owned an Asus phone before and I'm wondering about root on this? Can it be done and does anyone know if there's xposed support?

Currently as far as I know there aren't any official root/twrp stuff for this model. But other Zenfone 3's do and I assume this phone is very similar to them, so it's not a question of IF it can be done, but more when/who is going to put in the time to figure it out and share.
how/who do we need to talk to to make this happen?

Root has just recently been achieved. No custom ROMs or kernels are available yet. Unsure about Xposed support so far.
BTW, buy this phone. It's an amazing device.

It seems to me as if production of this phone has stopped. Is that true? I can hardly buy a new phone on Amazon and prices for them are pretty high lately.

If that phone is not available anymore, is there any other recent phone which runs Lineage and is less than 200€?

I think the link you sent is the right one. Just make sure it's the one with the Snapdragon 636. Xiaomi (and other retailers) can really mess up with the names.

I mean, he was asking for a phone that supports lineage, and this just happened to come to my mind first. Aside from what you mentioned, and lack of Hi-Fi, the specs are pretty good I think.

I read that Xiaomi set waiting time up to two month before allowing the unlocking of a bootloader! I wouldn't want to wait such a long time to start using LOS on the device.

I'm planning to buy Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1. Whould you tell me how it works? It there many custom roms? Damaging freqency? How often motherboard deads? Bugs are at Firmware level I would say.
Can't guarantee.

Yes.
Main issue I'm getting is network drops... very irritating.
It persist even I change room.(better in custom rooms I think).
I just bought it last week.,Tried PixysOs(awesome rom)..but since I had the network issue..I rolled back.
I relocked bootloader and switched to stock bcuz I'm planning to file refund.(maybe)

Hi guys im planing to buy Asus pro m1 on current flipkart sale,since 4/64GB version is just rs 8500 its steal,but after reading most reviews,this phone looks like have lots of problem,my question is will this problems (touch lag,poor camera,poor battery performance) can be avoidable with custom ROMs? Or its hardware related problems? And finally can u guys also give me link to latest recovery which can backup data without problem? Thank you so much,all answers appreciated
Buy the phone right now. It is the best deal you will ever get and replace Stock ROM with your choice of Custom ROM. It is hardware wise a great phone. Or you could spend some more and get a Realme 3 or Redmi Note 7s.

As far as I can remember it only goes up to Balanced but with GFX tools you can run it on High. I personally haven't played PUBG for a few months now.
I would recommend AEX (some customisation) or Pixel XP (most stable) for Custom ROMs in terms of performance.
You can get 6/64 variant from 2GUD at 9k only :angel:

Is it possible to unlock the bootloader on this device? Because I don't see any roms or twrp. I was maybe gonna buy one but not if there is no development.
Not possible as of now. Perhaps will never be possible. Don't buy the device if you're into rooting, etc. Better get K20 Pro.

I did a bit of looking.... and bought the mi 9. My first xiaomi device ever and it was pretty cheap. Thanks for the good advice.
