Hi guys,
I've been using OmniROM for some time now and I'm liking a lot. I like their open source "philosophy" and so on but lately, I'm facing a problem that I cannot solve by myself.
I'm trying to find a way to install Play Store to gets some apps that I want/need but I don't want to install all the other Gapps that comes with the packages. I managed to get the apk but after installing it, I don't get it to work. It tries to start but before it even opens, it closes quickly...
Do I need something else in order to make it work?? Google services maybe? I wouldn't like to have more than Play Store if possible.
Greetings!

I believe PA gapps has a "micro" version which has the bare minimum needed for Play Store.
(FYI, most if not all of the Omni developers use PA Gapps - tkruzze does a great job.)
OK so I'll have to flash the Gapps...
What I don't like is that they overwrite some aosp apps :\
Ty anyway @Entropy512!
Edit: What about installing Play services + play store?? Would that be enough?

By the way @Entropy512 or anyone else, do you know which files are imperative to install Google Play (Google Play itself, GP services...)and which aren't? (Google tts...) I would like to install just the needed ones only.
Greetings!

TKruzze provides multiple packages for the GApps, and most of them don't overwrite the AOSP apps.
In fact, as I read it now, only the "Google Stock Package" do replace AOSP browser, Calendar, Camera, Launcher, TTS, Keyboard and SMS by default by their Google products' counterpart. And there is even an easy way, using this package, to prevent some or all the AOSP apps to be replaced -- read TKruzze's posts to find out how.
The other packages don't overwrite the AOSP apps (except AOSP Calendar becoming replaced by Google Calendar). By default, they install the Google apps along side the AOSP ones.

Yup. That's why I suggested the "micro" package - I'm fairly certain this doesn't overwrite anything and includes the absolute minimum for the Play Store to work.
Now what is annoying is that some of the Play Store versions of Google apps have the same package names as AOSP variants which causes conflicts. Google Camera is one such example, which is the reason I'm in the process of renaming the AOSP-derived camera package in Omni.
Thanks guys, I'm gonna try out those options and see which suits me better
hi,somebody could point me a gaaps that have standard google apps like nexus 5 or 6,compatible with cm13 please,i'am very confuse about gaaps and don't know how is the right, thanks in add :good:
Hi,
Can this device run the google translate app? i've upgraded it to v4.4 CM with Micro Gapps and it doesn't allow to download google translate so i spoofed another device and downloaded anyway only to have the app crash on startup. Any idea if this is possible? this is the first time i've seen such a thing.
Anyone?

Yes, it's working on latest CM 11 build. Here is the latest version downloaded today from Google Play - Google Translate 5.1.0RC04.124179590.apk
It works without Google Apps, which you can uninstall using Google Apps Remover

I have installed cm-11-20160608-NIGHTLY-mb52x, the newer versions have no modification as far as I know (CM11 Android 4.4 Nightlies Changelog).
I don't usually have gapps installed because they make the phone very slow. Last time I installed Open GApps pico, installed the apps I need from Google play, then used Google Apps Remover to delete them and make the phone usable again
Which opengapps is appropriate for potter? Arm64?
Which opengapps version is the minimalist that still provides the password manager for apps? I like having the password auto fill for apps as they reinstall after flashing.
Thanks.

I prefer pico, the smallest package. You can install the rest from playstore. And yes, for custom ROMs you need arm64.

With pico do apps install and auto insert username/pw? For some reason i thought you had to install a gapps version that comes with chrome for this account sync feature to work.

That's a Chrome feature. You can install Chrome later from playstore like every other app.
Pico contains only google play services and package installer, these are not available in playstore. If you want the Google app (search) too take the nano package. Everything else you can get in playstore.

If you guys wanna try this rom, open gapps mini package works fine. I don't use Google pay, but play store, sync works good.

Language only english and china?
Installed it, nice!
I did it the not official way, installed the zip via local update.
Some apps not working, most of them do though.
Should I install gapps mini as recommended?
And uninstall play store? The official play store works fine.
What is the official way to install it? Via recovery I guess?
I will try that.
Thanks for the ROM!

What do u mean? U need to install gapps too? Don't they come pre loaded?
No, no play store, I went to recovery after my dirty upgrade, it was all in Chinese, I clicked on something, I guess it was wipe and clear cache, every thing was gone, continued and had a clean install.
Deleted all the Chinese apps.
Downloaded play store apk, and now busy installing my apps.
To be continued...

This is H2OS which is China's version of OOS. It does not have gapps because Google isn't allowed in China. You'll have to sideload google services or as the other user said opengapps mini works.

I really don't know. I know someone else who tried opengapps earlier today on this build, I don't know which package, and they didn't work. So it might be really picky.

I just did a search for play store apk, and found on the apk site I know the play store apk. That worked.

Can you share the link to open gapps mini package and the steps you flashed? I've tried using micro/nano open gapps but the first boot after flashing takes very long time and no google stuff shows in the phone. I can just install google play apk but also want to have the sync feature.

No crashes, updating apps works good.
If somebody wants it - Urnyx05's GCam mostly works (except for portrait, timelapse and slowmo)
