[Solved] How can I enable Wifi Assistant on Nougat? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone get WiFi Assistant working on Nougat? most articles have the instructions below but I cannot find the networking option. Anyone have success with this?
If your phone is ready for WiFi Assistant, you should see the option in Settings>Google>Networking. You may also find it in Settings>WiFi>Gear icon (top right). From within there, you will see a toggle for “Use open Wi-Fi automatically.”
I’m not currently seeing it live on my Nexus devices, but you may. Be sure to head into Google Play and update to the latest version of Google Connectivity Services. You may also need an update to Play Services as well or maybe you just need to remain patient.

SOLUTION
Ok, I found the settings it wasn't under anything called networking though. had to go to advanced in the wifi options and use open Wifi automatically aka the wifi assistant feature -__- I love great instructions
who would've thought. and you have to actually click that option to see what it does.

It's in Settings --> Google --> Networking if thats what your referring to. Seems to work decently.

For me it's in the Settings>Google>Networking. Also if you have WiFi Assist, it will be called WiFi assist. It will actually prompt you about connecting to open networks and optimizing and securing them.

Anyone know why Nougat 7.1.1 wifi advanced setting set wifi region code is mising right now and mashmallow 6.0.1 has an option?

What about when the whole option is missing? Just noticed recently the always on vpn is greyed out and where wifi assistant *used to be* it now is not. I even reverted google connectivity services back to factory (uninstalled updates), nothing, updated it, still nothing.

Market Issues (Wi-Fi Only)

I'm not sure if this is an issue in how my works Wi-Fi is set up and prohibiting me from connecting appropriately or if it's the Market itself.
Anyway I just got my Wi-Fi Xoom in today and immediately went to configure it to get apps and what not. I'm connected to my offices wi-fi and can browse the web, and get applications from Amazon's app store.
:
-- selecting apps to download/install doesn't do anything. The selected app won't show in "My Apps" I can't even get Maps to update.
Then randomly, the apps I have tried to download will somehow show themselves in "My Apps" under downloading, but they don't progress at all.
I've already tried to wipe it, close and wipe data from the market app, all to no avail. I'm really not sure what is going on.
The week prior I was using a colleagues xoom (3g version but 3g disabled), and had a similar problem as well, but eventually I had it working. I was given permission to wipe it and set it up as my own, so I don't know if the settings are messing with it from me using the other xoom with the same google account.
My office uses WPA2 Enterprise with a username and password, and have it set up in my Xoom as
Security: 802.1x EAP
EAP method: PEAP
Phase 2 Auth: None
Then my username and pass to connect.
Just curious... but because you are using the Amazon app store, have you checked the box "install from unknown sources"?
Correct. Since that's what allows for the apps to be installed from Amazon App Store.
Have you either used a file manager or plugged it into the USB on your computer, checked the root>downloads folder for the .apk files?
The only .apk files in there are the amazon app store.
Dunno what the problem could be then since its not a setting, but perhaps its a firewall issue in your office? Have you tried a different wifi connection completely to rule that out?
It is a firewall issue....I ran into the same problem when setting up a xoom in our network...

That's the only possibility I can think of. I've tried to share out my laptops connect see if going through that way would work, but no dice. Then using PdaNet on my iPhone, but won't even discover that network. I'll just have to wait till I get home.
At the apps download screen, try to hit cancel and download again, will that help?

Nope. The apps show the "install" option and then would sometimes go to downloading under "my apps" but then other times it won't do a thing.
Is not a network problem since i try in 3 different networks personals, corporate and tethering from Nexus S via T-mobile, here is a copy from Market help forums since i cant paste links in the forums.
I bougth the Xoom today ans I'm having issues with a lot of market applications. The message is Item not available for your carrier but I'm connecting via hotspot on my android smartphone an all aps are downloading OK. Why the apps work in one device and not in the Xoom if I'm using the same carrier? Please help

Yes, I am. But I saw some posts also in the Motorola Support forums from another US users having issues with some apps. I think Moto mess up something. Please keep me posted in any possible solution or updates. Regards...

Ironic, Amazon App Store work great, im installing all the apps from Amazon until they fix the official market.

70% of the apps don't install in the Android Market or give messages of unsupported carrier.
If the issue you are having relates to your location being in PR.. how would you go about guessing that the OP is from PR as well?

Still waiting to see if the OP posts whether his problem was related to the wifi at his work, or if he is still having issues.. and what his locale would be.
Sorry for the late response as once I got home I was busy playing with my Xoom and then today was actually trying to get some work done .
So it's pretty much resolved at this point.
1) I'm in the states. Northeast to be somewhat exact.
2) Definitely my work's network. As soon as I connected to my home network all of the apps I tried to install at work but weren't showing up, queued right up and got to downloading.
Come in to work today, and try downloading an app. And wouldn't you know it, the damn thing downloaded and installed just fine! It seemed like another one was going to resort back to the results I had yesterday, but tried again and it worked fine. Definitely odd.
Not sure if there was some sort of handshake that wasn't working with my xoom and the Android market while in the office on first use yesterday or what, but things are looking good now.
Thanks for your responses. While nothing was done from what I can see to fix it, I appreciate the help.

Location services for nook hd+

Hi Everyone,
I was trying to test out a WiFi tethering application (Open Garden). Open garden on Nook HD+ said that it needs the location services. I had turned off WiFi because I was trying to use Bluetooth tethering. Since HD+ does not have GPS, I could not do it. But even if I were to turn the WiFi on, how do I enable location services?
Also has anybody tried WiFi tethering of Nook HD+ to a cell phone for internet connection?
Thank you for any help.
Best Regards,
RaliR

You have to be rooted and open the settings database with SQLite Editor. And change the blank value in location allowed to network.

Hi Leapinlar,
Thank you for your quick note. I did go into the settings database and made a couple of changes though nothing stood out very clearly. Can I impose on you to give me very specific instructions if you could. Obviously what I tried did not solve my problem.
Thank you again for being patient and helpful to newbies.

Open the settings database in settings storage. Click on the secure table. Look for location providers allowed. In the value, it was originally blank. Type in network. Then install Google maps. You can get it on someone0's gapps thread. Then go to settings, device info, developers options and toggle the mock locations checkbox until the allow Google location dialog box pops up. Say ok. You are done.

Ok, this seems to work for me. After following these directions above, I downloaded two apps, GPS Bluetooth to my nook and Bluetooth GPS output to my phone (galaxy nexus). Pair the devices, follow directions for each including set mock location provider in the tablet app, and voila, I have a GPS enabled Google maps on my tablet!
I also tether with Wi-Fi to get data. Now if I could just get the compass to connect...
Ps, need to wake lock my phone on GPS, uses a lot of power, with GPS, BT, 4g, and Wi-Fi all running.

I never get any pop up dialog box when I enable mock locations. I've updated my settings to network and tried uninstalling/reinstalling Maps before updating the mock locations but nothing happens when I turn it on and Maps isn't finding me. Any ideas?

I do. I'm rooted, running Google Play, Gmail, YouTube and Movies & TV. Maps installs fine and will function to look up a location or map directions but when I tap the icon to find my current location I get a small white box on the screen but I can't read it because it must be in white font.

[Q] S4 Google Location settings

I apologize if this was repeated - the search toolbar isn't working.
I'm having trouble with my phone recognizing that my location settings are on.
I open g+
press 'locations'
an error pops up that says 'location reporting must be enabled'
it gives me an option to 'go to location settings'
i go there and everything is set to on/checked
when my boyfriend tries detecting me on google maps, it says i am sharing my location with him, and he can't see me. i try all of that again, and its one giant circle of nothing getting accomplished. Anyone else having this issue?

There are two places to turn on location, one is in the phone settings/locations the other is for google to access those locations in accounts/google/location access. Double check that those are both on, then go into maps/settings/location access and make sure that is enabled as well as location history and location reporting. Just going of of memory on this one but I think this should get you going.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately EVERYTHING is on, everywhere. I've triple checked it all. Yet my phone still detects that something isn't enabled. That's what I'm confused about!

I actually figured it out...luckily with timing on my side, I went into the google latitude website where I had my location as hidden. that's why it wasn't showing up! I turned it to 'detect my location' and I showed up on the maps! Thanks for your help!
Nice, glad you got it all sorted out.

How to stop marshmallow update?

Marshmallow was automatically installed a couple of weeks ago and has no discernible improvements whatsoever and a whole host of problems (not least that the casting function is now either flakey or non existent and appears and disappears randomly) Because of the casting and dlna problems I want to do a factory reset and revert to lollipop. How can I stop the np automatically 'upgrading" to marshmallow? I know I have the option to turn off app auto updates on Google play but I can't see how to stop it installing marshmallow. Thanks very much.

Ok thanks. But I said I knew how to stop app auto updates. I'm interested in seeing if I can stop auto system updates. It's easy on a phone or tablet. I can't see how it's done on the np. Thanks.
Sideload the "My Android Tools" app which is available at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.myandroidtools&hl=en. After it's installed on your Nexus Player, open and configure it as shown here by using a mouse but you will need root access for this to work.
Service >> System >> Search >> Google Play Services >> Disable SystemUpdateService.
Service >> System >> Search >> Google Services Framework >> Disable SystemUpdateService.

Yes I know, you can stop system updates aswell,. ^ basically does what gabby said
Ok. Will do. Thanks very much to both. It's a pity I can't do it without rooting it though (which I don't want do) So it looks like I have no choice but to have marshmallow installed which is crazy really.

Yes, marshmellow is very buggy for me. I have constant error messages where it says this has stopped working, and external storage issues. Are you having the same issues?
My issues are all casting related. Casting is non existent on Ethernet and buggy as hell on wireless. Dnla is also awful and frequently won't work under marshmallow. On my phone I deliberately don't update to a new os until all the problems are sorted. With the nexus player I'm given no choice.

[Solved] Mock locations - fake gps not working

Hey all,
Just got a 6p and have run into an issue. I need the ability to set a fake location but I can't seem to get it to stick on the 6p.
I have tried a few different apps and even ran the expert mode via root with the " Fake GPS" app by MegApps. The location settings are set to device only with both WiFi and Bluetooth scanning options turned off. Yet no matter what I seem to do, the phone still picks up its native gps signal canceling out my mock location.
Anyone know a fix or have any suggestion? Any insight would be appreciated
Running stock with root and tried android N
Edit: After trying numerous apps I finally found one that worked properly. Not sure what's different about it but "Location Cheater" in the play store works
Hey I saw three apps with "Location Cheater" as a name in the play store. Which one worked?
