Other than installing 3rd party apps, is there a non-root (obviously ) method to changing to darker themes for the dialer and messaging app? I have been a Samsung sheep and got used to themes. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Instead of White background, could someone post a fix to invert the colors on the SMS chat?
Black background and white txt, is there a fix for this?

you can perhaps try out vito sms-chat, it is a third party application but it does have what you are looking for!
I've tried every SMS program I could find out there. The one in pocketCM contacts, SMS chat, SmileySMS.
I found it that I prefer the normal windows mobile messaging app that comes with windows mobile 6.1 ( I did use the search tool )
Since I use a touch pro... I was wondering can someone make a diamond theme for the messaging application? Just changing the background, font colors, and some icons?
I wish I had at least a shred of skill in doing this stuff. I would have loved to do it myself.
So.... is it possible?

Pretty sure its not possible, at least easily - the messaging app is hardcoded so changing stuff would probably be more hassle than its worth.
Also, this should really be in the Questions forum
Oh, sorry I keep forgetting about that forum
...
Well, there is a utility for changing the background image, or background color, fonts and stuff. I think it's called SMS-Tweaker.
I don't mind cause my ROM, Manila ported ONYX, has the Message Tab, and i tap the message and respond in the thread. You know what, I'll place a black background and white text to match the theme.
LOL,
Paul
Is it possible to mod the default messaging app? Im looking to start a theme and would like to give the default app an overhaul. FYI, i hate chomp and handcent haha .
In the Deodex ROM, version 1.1 I believe, he uses a black background and white text with different gradients of black and gray to divide up the conversation. It looks slick. I have no Chomp or Handcent anywhere on my device, so I assume its a themed version of the stock app.
With 4.3 TW Roms, Samsung introduced colored emoji that work on a system-wide basis. (Including notification panel, and in apps such as Instagram and Facebook). The Emoji are colored, and much prettier than the black robots we saw before on 4.2
My question is, is there a way to replace these emoji? Perhaps theme them, or make them look like the "standard" ones we see on Whatsapp and iOS?
It shouldn't be hard, we just have to figure out where the png are stored.
Note: I know there are plent of ways to replace the emoji in MMS.apk... but i am reffering to the SYSTEM-WIDE emoji
thanks
Installed the Google Framework Magisk module and then the Google dialer. However, every time I switch the phone theme to Dark or Colorful, the dialer goes dark with unreadable blue numbers on a dark background. Changing the accent color of the theme has no impact on the dialer appearance. Changing the phone theme back to light does not change the dialer theme. The dialer settings themselves seem to have a theme option but it is greyed out. Deleting cache and data from the dialer has no impact. The only way to get back a whole dialer is to uninstall and then reinstall from the store.
Is this normal? Is there a way to control the Google dialer theme independently from the phone theme without substratum or additional modules?
Do you have Google Contacts installed? I believe the theme is linked to the Contacts app which has the option to change the theme. Mine changed when I had both installed.

Did you also try the Google messenger? Put the messenger on dark theme in settings too.

That option is greyed out. I mentioned this in my OP but should have probably made it more clear. The strange thing is that if the phone theme is Light that option is not even there in the dialer. If I set the theme to Dark or Colorful on the phone the option poos up but is greyed out
Messenger is already on a dark theme, that can be controlled independently from the phone theme.
Update: apparentlythere is a bug in messenger so when you put it in dark theme it also looks the dialer on dark theme. Ugh. The two most used apps on my phone, Gmail and messenger, insist on featureless themes. Time to dump at least one of them.
