IR Blaster questions - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was showing my phone screen to a friend on webcam today, when I noticed the IR blaster is supposedly active (see attached picture). But it would turn off when the screen would be off as well.
What gives? Is it supposed to be on all the time while the screen is on and wasting precious battery? If not, how do I go on about fixing this, or disabling the IR blaster altogether?
I'm sorry for the stupid questions, I just had to ask.
Thank you for reading!

That is not the IR blaster. The IR blaster is located on the top (top, not front) right side of the phone.
What you are seeing in the picture is the proximity/gesture sensors. They both use infrared and are both next to each other. So it's one of those.

You are absolutely right. I just tested this out on a camera and indeed, the top right corner lit up when I used a TV remote app. But like I said in the original post, forgive me for the stupid question. I just had to put my mind at ease haha

[Q] What are the four holes on the top for?

Front camera, ALS, infrared sensor and what's the fourth one?
I found in the video that the led is on the left of the speaker and cannot be recognized as a hole, which is the same as S3.
I don't have any idea. I tried to search too, but I can't find any information. Anyone can help us?
I believe the fourthopening maybe a microphone for recording sound bits that can be added to the camera shot.
The four are (left to right):
gesture sensor, infrared emitter, infrared sensor (those two make up the proximity sensor, and then the camera.
Also even more to the left but usually not visible unless turned on, is the notification led.
I suggest you watch this:

Yes, the emmitor for remote controlling is on the side of the top of the phone.

That IR LED is also used for proximity detection I believe, which is something you cannot turn off.
Why do you want to turn it off so badly anyway? It will barely use power at all.
because i believe is not healthy for your head to receive continuity IR i am wrong?

If you start to fear your IR blaster, don't go out, stay at home. Because sun radiations are way much armful

What is this blinking sensor? Is it a proximity sensor?

Hello everyone, I recently got Note3.
Today, I looked at my phone through another phone camera and found a sensor which kept blinking all the time. (Please see attached clip)
To me, it seems like an infrared since human eyes could not see it.
Is this normal even I don't have air gesture ON?
Thank you

Very interesting. Mine too
That is the IR.
If you're using an IR remote app, and you press a key, that'll light up for human eyes to see.

How can it be the IR?
If you were using an IR remote app then you'd have to show the front face of the phone to the TV, which would make looking at the phone screen a bit of an issue.

You mistake my meaning. If you look at the top of the phone, you'll see a small dot next to the audiojack. That is the IR blaster. The blipping dot at the front is the indicator of the IR blaster. It lights up when the IR blaster is transmitting, to alert the user.

IR blaster not working

It's for my galaxy note 4 (910A, att version)
Recently, my daughter dropped note 4 on very hard surface (cracked the screen) and had slight water damage. So camera failed also.
So I have replaced the LCD and rear camera. Camera still didn't work, but after I unseated all the cable and seated again, then camera works. Pretty difficult experience.
But today when I checked, I found IR blaster doesn't work. IR LED works, but on mirror or camera, when I clicked the IR button (PEEL smart remote), there is no light coming out from a hole beside the headphone jack. So I am guessing, hardware failure.
To replace this, what part should I buy? It seems to me that this part is connected to proximity sensor and front camera. So I am looking at the eBay item like this: Replacement-Front-Camera-Proximity-Sensor-Flex-Cable-for-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-4
Sorry I can't post the link for this.
The seller doesn't respond whether this fix also IR blaster. Does any one know?
Could someone recommend the trouble shooting guide for IR blaster? *#0*# doesn't really test the IR blaster, just test IR LED. Am I looking at the right location for IR?

windows hello sensor

Hi, can you do something more with the windows hello sensor?? It really looks like the kinect dot, wonder if you can scan 3d object, or have some sort of night vision if an app could use that sensor...
Kinect no (as far as i know it doesnt 'do 3d') but night vision maybe, since its pretty much an IR camera.
A little too early i guess, maybe in a few weeks somebody with the right skillset can have a stab at this
You most definitely can do some more stuff with that camera. It has after all an IR sensor.
You'll need to use the Windows Biometric Framework API.

It seems to me like there isn't actually any separate IR camera. It seems like the standard front-facing camera plus an infrared LED.
The reason I say that is that if you cover the FFC, then go to the "Improve Recognition" screen where it actually shows you what the device sees, it remains covered.
Just speculation though.

There is a separate (IR?) camera. If you cover the FFC, the iris recognition and the login work normally.

Hmm, you're right. I guess the view I was talking about during the Improve Recognition is just showing the regular camera to the user (maybe to give an idea of where the phone needs to be positioned), while using the separate iris scanning camera for the actual training.
