[Q] What are the four holes on the top for? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Front camera, ALS, infrared sensor and what's the fourth one?
I found in the video that the led is on the left of the speaker and cannot be recognized as a hole, which is the same as S3.

I don't have any idea. I tried to search too, but I can't find any information. Anyone can help us?

I believe the fourthopening maybe a microphone for recording sound bits that can be added to the camera shot.

The four are (left to right):
gesture sensor, infrared emitter, infrared sensor (those two make up the proximity sensor, and then the camera.
Also even more to the left but usually not visible unless turned on, is the notification led.
I suggest you watch this:

Yes, the emmitor for remote controlling is on the side of the top of the phone.

It's the round black 'spot' on the right in the 'metal' band.

two tiny holes beneath the screen in the top right?

Hey guys,
I've been staring at the top right of the Galaxy S wondering what the two small holes are beneath the screen (just about a centimeter left of the ear piece), it almost looks like a hidden LED, but I can't be sure... Does anyone know?
Zas.
proximity sensor?
Yeah, proximity sensor and light sensor, just found the details after running through the rather bland documentation.

Samsung Galaxy S 3 Sensors!?

Hello,
So today i noticed on the left side of the speaker, that there are 3 sensors, both of them are together on the same place, which should be Light sensor and proximity sensor... but what about the other one more to the left? Seems pretty much like a Small LED to me.
Check this picture guys and u will see it clear enough!

Update after a test [Post #4]
Center: Proximity
Right: Light
Left: ?
Is one the light sensor for the auto-brightness thing, and the other two possibly a 'sender/reciever' set up for detecting when it's close to your face in order to turn the screen off during a call?

I believe the proximity sensor and light sensor are both together, which leaves the left sensor... i wonder what it is
May be u r right, i am dying to find out!
I will test it with a Q-tip. I pointed a flashlight with high brigthness on the sensors now, the left one doesnt seem like a LED... so that option just kinda died
Ok tested it, qtip during the call shows that the proximity sensor is the one in the CENTER.
Used a black fabric for the light sensor... with my finger over the fabric covered the left and right sensors, result: RIGHT sensor is the light sensor!
Leaves: Left sensor.... what is it?
Center: Proximity
Right: Light
Left: ?
spy cam - big brother is watching you!
beats me i hadnt even noticed it!
I would probably guess that the two closest together are a Transmitter/ Receiver pair.
It could be emitting infra-red and using a receiver to detect how far away an object is based upon the light returned.
One way to sometimes 'see' this is to use a normal camera to look at it, if it shows a white spot, there is a good chance it's emitting IR.

What is this blinking sensor? Is it a proximity sensor?

Hello everyone, I recently got Note3.
Today, I looked at my phone through another phone camera and found a sensor which kept blinking all the time. (Please see attached clip)
To me, it seems like an infrared since human eyes could not see it.
Is this normal even I don't have air gesture ON?
Thank you

Very interesting. Mine too
That is the IR.
If you're using an IR remote app, and you press a key, that'll light up for human eyes to see.

How can it be the IR?
If you were using an IR remote app then you'd have to show the front face of the phone to the TV, which would make looking at the phone screen a bit of an issue.

You mistake my meaning. If you look at the top of the phone, you'll see a small dot next to the audiojack. That is the IR blaster. The blipping dot at the front is the indicator of the IR blaster. It lights up when the IR blaster is transmitting, to alert the user.

Moto X style's IR Sensors

I have noticed that only 2 of my IR sensors emit red light now which earlier used to be 3. Now the sensor on the bottom left and sensor near the ear piece light up. The sensor on the bottom right used to light up earlier bit now ot doesn't. Is anybody facing the same problem ? Please answer and suggest a solution if there's any.
Thanks.

Yep just noticed mine isn't lighting up either.

IR Blaster questions

I was showing my phone screen to a friend on webcam today, when I noticed the IR blaster is supposedly active (see attached picture). But it would turn off when the screen would be off as well.
What gives? Is it supposed to be on all the time while the screen is on and wasting precious battery? If not, how do I go on about fixing this, or disabling the IR blaster altogether?
I'm sorry for the stupid questions, I just had to ask.
Thank you for reading!
That is not the IR blaster. The IR blaster is located on the top (top, not front) right side of the phone.
What you are seeing in the picture is the proximity/gesture sensors. They both use infrared and are both next to each other. So it's one of those.

You are absolutely right. I just tested this out on a camera and indeed, the top right corner lit up when I used a TV remote app. But like I said in the original post, forgive me for the stupid question. I just had to put my mind at ease haha
