I just came to the android world a couple a days ago. (Previous Pre owner) and Im loving the phone, but.... When I click on photo gallery it shows every photo that is on the phone. Like clock images and some random pics that are used for apps. Is there a way to clean it up so all I can see is downloaded photos and shots taken from my camera?

make an empty file named .nomedia and drop it into the folders you don't want to show up in the gallery. you can do the same thing for music folders (like a custom ringtones or notifications folder on your sd card) so they don't show up in the player list
some galleries won't recognize the .nomedia file. you're up a creek with those.
I use the gallery widget on my screen, and you tell it which folder to use. Somewhat of a resolution.
Thanks for the replies, Gallery widget works for me!
I recently got cyanogen mod 6 on my htc legend, and was just exploring the apps. One app, is Gallery (which came stock with cyanogen and possibly with android in general).
I see 3 albums, called Desktop, Desktop and Test. I guess these are just folders i created at some point prior to trying cyanogen.
But I dont want those albums there, and when i click the album, there is no delete option. Other albums I have the option to delete, but just not these 3.
I tried mounting my sd card, and searching for the file names for those pics, and the album names, but i cant find it. Which then makes me think, that its not on the sd, but stored internally instead ?
How can I find and delete these pictures ?
Just some more information, i cleared the gallery cache through the applications setting, and loaded gallery again, and those albums with the pictures are gone...
I waited sometime, because ive done this before, but after some time they came back...but currently, its been a few mins since I cleared the cache and everything seems to be in order...
ill post back in a few hours, if they come back. Otherwise, this thread can be deleted.
Ok, the pictures are back. It took sometime after clearing the cache, but somehow, those albums and pictures are back.
One thing I did see, is that all the albums I CAN delete, have a folder icon on the bottom left. The ones that i CANNOT delete, have a camera (or aperature) icon on the bottom left.
Help ?
i downloaded QuickPic, a photo viewer app, and it does not list the albums/pics in question that Gallery seems to show.
QuickPic is set up to search for pics on /mnt/sdcard
which then just furthur makes me think that the folder Desktop and test are someone on the internal memory.
I tried to use astro, and dual file browser to search, for those folders but couldnt find it.
I tried to use terminal and use "find . -type d Desktop" (which i believe searches the root directory for a folder called Desktop) but that returned with nothing.
Im at a loss. Its not the end of the world if these pics are here, but really, i dont want them there and I should be able to remove them.
bump...any ideas or things to try ?
Hey, there is an edit button you know. You don't need to post new reply again and again. Btw if the pictures keeps coming back. That means there is an app that is doing that. Look around for any apps that might be doing that.
There is no edit for these pictures( the ones i want gone), the rest of the pictures (i want to keep), have the edit button which includes delete.
When i click the pictures i dont want and press the menu button to show me more options, I only have Share and More. In 'More' I have Details and Set as Wallpaper
I have 2 photo viewers (Gallery and QuickPic) and QuickPic does not show those pictures(the ones i want gone)...only in Gallery.

In the 'Details' option, there should be a path entry.

Swyped from my legend using XDA app.
i think rajasyaitan is referring this thread so that you can just edit the first post and update it. no need for you to make new post every time you come back.
hmm i had the same problem tho i'll avoid to use the load all photos. but in my sd card i have copy of live usb in it. i just don't know how to tell gallery to exclude it...

There isnt.
Solved.
Ok I figured it out.
If anyone is wondering. The gallery app is somehow tied into your google account, and if you have a picasa web album set up, it automatically pulls. Which is why I couldn't delete it or even find it because it was never on the phone.
Just randomly decided to log into picassa web album and saw the stupid album names I gave it and it clicked.
Ok..mystery solved.
Dear XDA peeps,
I have a small problem with my Legend. When I check the photos in my gallery it saves them (sometimes) twice. I noticed that this only happens with photos I posted on Twitter using the Twitter for Android app (with Twitpic as photo sharing service).
When I look at the details of the photo it says with the original photo (named "IMAG****" (* being digits)) that it is saved in "/mnt/sdcard/DCIM/100MEDIA" and the duplicate (named with random digits) is saved in "/mnt/sdcard/DCIM/Camera". Also the size of the duplicate is smaller than the original.
Any ideas how I can shut this off? I looked in the settings everywhere and coulnd't find a solution. With over 400 photos now, this gets annoying and it just fills my SD card with unnecessary doubles.
I have a Legend running the official 2.2 update, no ROMs, unrooted.
Thanks ;-)
Josh
Hi
When I set the photo frame widget on my home screen, it shuffles images from the whole device. So it even shows icon images, screen shots, clipboard images, and any images that are part of the android or Samsung system in the photo frame.
Is there any way of just selecting ffrom the SD card? I've gone into the photo frame settings and there are just 3 options. I can choose either one photo to display, a specific image folder, or shuffle all images. Absolutely useless...I only want my photos to show up....not system or clipboard images.
I resent having to pay for another app to replace something already on my device, but with such a simple and obvious oversight as this.

Just put a .nomedia file in folders you want media scanner to ignore.

Thanks. Just tried that and it hasn't worked. I put touch.nomedia in one of the folders but it still appears in the gallery.

Try text file .nomedia inside that folder .

Clear app cache for media server as well.

wouldn't it be easy to make a new folder just for the widget and copy the photos you want to appear on the widget into that folder?

Not really no. I have over 20 folders of sorted photos.....roughly 6gb altogether, it would take ages to copy the photos from each folder into a single folder. Plus I don't want to double the amount of memory taken up just so I can have the photo frame without all the other system and app images showing up. It really is utterly ridiculous that Google missed this basic need.....I have over 3000 images added to the widget, but I only have 500 photos, come on Google, you can do better than this!!!
Sometimes its easier to create the .nomedia file on a pc and trasfer across.

Hello,
I have a problem with synchronize photos in Samsung Gallery and Google Photos. Have official Android 10 (made factory reset after update).
If I shot some photo, it's in Samsung Gallery, after some seconds it appears in Google Photos. It's ok. But if I delete some photo/video from Google Photos app, it appears back from trash after some seconds and photo/video is still in Samsung Gallery.
I tried to clear cache of Google Photos and stock Gallery, didn't help it.
In android 9 if I deleted photo from Google Photos, it automatically deleted from Samsung Gallery too.
Any fix please? Any person with the same problem?

I have the same issue, deleted photos from Google Photos 3 times before they succeeded to finally go.
I'm using Files by Google now to delete anything I definitely want gone.
This is what I get after deleting from Google Photos then going to Gallery.
Tried Files by Google. If I delete photo in Google Photos, I see it's not in Files. But it still shows in gallery. There is corrupted thumbnail.
Hope it will be fixed soon.
Anybody with this problem too?
Same problem for me
I have the same problem on my Galaxy S10 after upgrading to Android 10.
I noticed a difference between when photos are stored on the local storage versus stored on an SD card. When the photo was originally stored on an SD card when I deleted from Google photos it wasn't deleted on the SD card, and simply reappears in Google photos few seconds later.
However when the photo was originally stalled on the phone's local storage when I deleted it from Google photos it was partially deleted from my phone meaning I still saw it is a thumbnail in my gallery app but when clicking it I got the annoying exclamation mark.
So the problem appears to be in the delete interface between Google photos app and the Samsung storage / SD card on Android 10.
HELP US GOOGLE!!!
I have 8 wallpaper backgrounds which are on my sd card.
I have deleted them at least a dozen times in Google Photos and Samsung Gallery and emptied the bin. But they keep respawning like a friggen COD player.
I confirm this bug on S10e. Please do report both to Samsung (in Samsung Members app) and Google (Google Photo App) to raise awareness.
In Samsung Gallery I somehow managed to get a side bar down the left showing album's and have no idea how i did it or how to remove it
I have no clue how to undo the album's down the left

Thankyou so much, it was driving me insane. Its a good feature but i prefer full screen.
Another Google Photos Bug.
Just said i could free up 234mb deleting photos from the device as they are backed up to Google Storage. However when i selected it, it then said only 6.11mb were freed.
Just received Jan update for my S10+. There is still problem with deleting photos..
Installed update of Google Photos now.
Seems deleting photos work fine (photos not appear again).
In Samsung gallery are still thumbnails of deleted photos.
Hi all,
today I moved all my photos/videos back to internal storage. Changed default storage in camera to internal storage.
Tried to make some photos, then deleted in Google Photos.
There are thumbs in Samsung Gallery. After some seconds/minutes, I open photo in gallery and same result, only exclamation mark.
So I think there is no problem with SD card permissions, there is a problem with google photos app. Received about 3 updates from the date I created this topic, still same result.
scan gone
I have the same problem on my s10+. also the scan feature in camera is no longer there. I used that alot. scan in documents 1 2 3 . now gone?? anyone else?
i'm unlocked on verizon
wondering if i should just go back to android 9.
would rather not start messing with the phone like i use to.. stock was nice.
Today received new update of Google Pgotos. Deleting photos work percet finally.
So everything works fine again.
I got the solution, I just clear data of my google photo app and also the gallary app!! And opened it again!! And it worked like a charm!!
