I've my XT1572 purchased in July, 2016. I notice a yellowish tint on screen. However, my other friend who has XT1572 too doesn't has any yellow tint and the whites look truely white instead of any other color's tint. So is my display defective? Is there anyone else who is having the same issue? My phone as well as his phone isn't rooted nor any modifications are done to any. I've started this thread because most of the threads on yellowish screen tint in Moto X Style are from countries other than India. So if any Indian XT1572 user has faced the same issue, please help with the same.
I had it... But i replaced my device.. Now it's bright and beautiful.. There's no solution for it. You can either replace the handset ( if possible ) or can change the display from service center

My replacement period is already gone. So changing the display would do I guess. Do you have any idea how long it could take to change the display?
It depends on your location. Go and check
My screen felt slightly yellow too from what I was used to on a Oneplus one. So I installed frankenkernel and KCAL color control, now my display has pure whites and colors almost look like an amoled screen.
But if its super yellow and you think its a hardware issue and not calibration you should exchange it.

Good to know that. I checked it with another MXPE and a OnePlus Two, both had pure white, mine instantly looked yellow on bring the devices close to each other for comparison. Also my XPE has a bit of screen bleeding on left side beezel.

Ok well I would like to get peoples feedback and opinions on their screens.
My story. Broke my GNote II instead of paying to replace LCD decided to upgrade with my carrier.
First Note 3 I bought was bright with nice whites and great viewing angles. But it has the dreaded pinkinsh purple screen tint issue in the lower 3rd of the screen more so on the right side. This is subtle and is less evident in brighter conditions or higher screen brightness. At low brightness and in dark environments it is particularly visible on white and grey backgrounds. Went to store to exchange and they refused given they could not see the defect. I came online here searched around and it seems this has been an issue on the GS4 and people have mentioned it on the new Note 3.
Convinced my carrier to send me a replacement and I will return the original to them. Well got the replacement 3-4 days ago. The unit seems quite different. First off the screen is overall a bit more yellow at face on viewing angles and perhaps a hair less bright at similar settings though hard to tell. The bottom is not color shifted puple. The screen color is more homogenous. However the viewing angles are completely different. Here while the brightness stays goo dlike the first when angling the screen, the colors shift to a more aqua color with minor angle variation. (guessing 20-30*) whereas the original unit has virtually no color shift at almost 90*.
I probably have to send back a unit in the coming day or 2 and make a final decision. In theory I could try to ask for a third model, however it was with a lot of difficulty and threats to leave my carrier that they relented in the first replacement. SO I likely will have to stick with one of these or return both and use my somewhat broken note 2 and wait for something else.
I am wondering if any of you out here have similar pink/purple tint issues at one end of your screen. Or if you have issues with significant white color shift when angling your screen more than 30* in either portrait or landscape. Also if good or bad can you check build date on your phone (should be under battery). FInally did you or will you replace it? Was replacement better or worse?
Also if in my shoes would you go for the better looking screen with the pink issue or the more consistent looking screen that is a bit more blue yellow.
Thanks!

I know you did and I posted some long posts there and the thread kind of died.
I have some specific questions here as well as asking what I should do in my case.
I had a note 2 and remember there being perseus kernel and with STweaks one could shift color etc and make it how you like. I am thinking going with the more uniform color model as I am sure the slight yellow tint can be corrected and the blue tint on viewing angles is no worse than my note 2 looking back so I will get used to it I imagine. That said the first screen really has great screen but the purplish pink right bottom corner bugs me on white and grey screens ( not noticeable on high brightness though) and often reading on websites etc indoors I notice it enough that it bugs me.....
So for anyone who cares here is an update on my plan. The more uniform note 3 is more yellow/green tinted whites compared to the other one that is whiter/redder. That said if I use one of these screen filter style apps that exist in the play store, I can modify the overall screen into however I like.
Downside is that it means a persistently running app to do it with whatever effect on screen longevity and battery.
Now on my Note 2 which is also yellower, I was running perseus kernel and the s tweaks app and was able at the kernel level to modify the color to get better whites. I imagine it is only a matter of time before someone can do that for our note 3. I can handle the viewing angle color shift as the device is in my hand and not on a table when i use it where it might be off angle viewing by a large amount. And even then, the tinting of white has a bluish shift and now worse than a yellowing shift my wifes iphone has off angle or my note 2 did.
Would love tohear from others and what their screens are like and or developers who might have the means of modifying color at kernel level the way Andreilux did on the note 2
I checked almost 10 note 3s bkack n white as well..and found only 1 set.it has no yellow tint and no gray lining.

You checked 13 notes and 12 of them were either yellow tint or what gray lining issue?
How did you manage to check so many.
Can you check the following. Look at the phone screen face on the tilt either up down or side to side about 30 degrees and tell me if the white on the screen turns bluish.
One of my phones does this and has the yellower whites. The other does not and has better whites but has some purplish discoloration in the lower right part of the phone.
Any one here try a new kernel from the android development sections?
Some of them talk about being able to modify screen color. Am wondering if this can be a fix for my issues.
Okay so I bought a new Moto X (2014) last week In India. Everything about the phone is great. It was already on lollipop. But when I decrease the brightness to below 30-40% the display gradually becomes more and more purple. And with Adaptive Brightness on and in a dark room, it's so purple that the green and yellow shades appear grey or black. I know amoled panels have this problem at very low brightness and apparently many Nexys 6 users are also facing it. However I didn't see many complaints here in the Moto X forum.
So if you have this problem please vote in the poll above. Then I can ask them for a replacement. Thank you.
I'd later add some photos of the screen.
P.S. If you are experiencing this, please add some photos so that people can compare it with their displays.
ok i have this problem too, but when I'm in the bed and reading random news this purple display isn't disturbing me. i can feel it relax more my eyes. so i can say i take advantage from a bug
I don't think this is a bug, way easier on the eyes in the dark, perhaps some kind of a feature on AMOLED and Lollipop. The Nexus 6 has it, too, i think.
I don't know if anyone else noticed that in direct sun light, the screen goes extra bright - like indoor bright + boost?
This is not a feature. It's an issue with amoled displays. That's why Samsung limits the lowest brightness to a higher level. While Moto X seems to go way down. I just want to know if everyone's having this. Then it's okay. But if it's not everyone then there're some good amoled panels out there and we are getting the bad ones.
Yup, keep noticing this before the screen goes completely off.
It's not a "bug" with AMOLED displays, it's inherent to the way the displays work. Red LEDs use much less power than other colors so when the brightness is down low the displays looks like it has a slightly red tint to it. While Samsung does keep their best displays for themselves the lack of a red tint is not due to that but is instead due to not letting the brightness go as low on their displays.

That's what I meant. Not quite the best choice of word, I guess. But if that was the case, everyone should have had the pink tint at low brightness. Do you mean the ones who are not getting it are either lying or have Moto X's with LCD panels?

Well, only 2 out of 11 people have reported no color distortion. And remember that while you're asking "Is there a purple tint?" they're answering the question "Have you noticed a purple tint?"
What I've noticed is that when Adaptive Brightness is on, the display gets super dark and causes the purple tint. When I turn Adaptive Brightness off in a dark room, it actually completely loses the purple tint, and compared to my Galaxy Tab S 8.4 at lowest brightness, the screen is brighter than the Tab S. So I guess Motorola hasn't caught up with Samsung's display technology since my Tab S can actually get dimmer without such a dramatic color distortion - for my Moto X to get to a brightness level that dim, I need to turn on Adaptive Brightness (thus with the purple tint).
.
I wouldn't say it gets a Purple tint but rather a reddish one with adaptive light.
And I LOVE it. This way I don't have to install Lumen.CF or any other stuff. Way easier on the eyes at night and it gets reeeeeeaally dark. Just perfect!
I also love that it naturally has a lower white temperature point than other lcd/phones screens. Warmer white is cozy white.
7 votes for without purple/red tint.
People who are not seeing the tint, can you please upload a side by side photo of "your phone at lowest brightness with the adjustment bar visible" and "a white paper".

I voted for no color distortion as my display is very very good. I can tell you there is certainly a variation in displays. A few months back someone posted about being able to see color banding and such. Those of us with really good displays do not see that. I was going to order a Pure edition to replace my unlocked XT1097 but the display is so good on it I decided not to, I doubt another one will be as good. I had 5 different Moto X 2013 models and the displays varied on each of them as well. I kept the best one and my 2014 model is still quite a bit better then the best 2013 I had.

The rest of the phone in my case feels pretty solid and well built. Also I'm getting 47k+ scores on Antutu. Hence I am having second thoughts about getting it replaced.
My PE doesn't turn purple and has better whites than my AT&T branded one. The screen on that one is awful to me but I also use a G2, iPhone 6, '13 N7, no one notices but me.

I'm pretty sure this is just a feature of the moto x2 go to Settings/Display and turn off adaptive brightness, you will see that it changes to normal

Indeed, when adaptative brightness is turned off, purple tint will not occur. However, I am not sure this is a "feature". It actually looks more like a poor implementation of auto brightness.

I use the CF Lumen app to turn down the red and green just a tad in the master mode. That makes my screen less pinkish.
I had the purple display issue in 5.0. Now I upgraded to 5.1 and the issue is gone. Colors are well balanced down to minimum available brightness.

Running 5.0 having the same issue waiting for the update. Will report back thanks for this info I thought it's a amlod display issue, new to this display past few years was on lcd panel device's just got this device more than a week only now. But this is a great news. Thanks.
My screen has been like this since day one. In the pictures you can see brighter back light bleeding from the top center/right, the right middle/bottom, and the bottom center/left. Also, a bit of light shines through the white bezel in the bottom center which now that I notice, won't stop bugging me.
Was hoping it would go away but I got this on Amazon so an exchange would be easy as long as it comes back in stock soon (white 32GB).
Is mine the only one plagued with this? Keep in mind that this is with brightness turned all the way up on a black screen.
Yea I have screen bleed at two spots but it doesn't bother me unless for some reason it starts to expand then it will become an issue.
Most LCD panels, which are backlit, will have some light bleed around the edges. You can return the phone for a different one, but you'll probably have the same issue. It is the nature of backlit LCD panels. AMOLEDs don't have this problem since each pixel has its own light source.
Thanks for the input guys!
I don't seem to have this issue on mine. I can't notice anything like this when I turn on Moto Display. Is there an easy way for me to test this out?
the nature of LCD. one of the reasons I enjoy amoled as well.

I have this screen bleeding too.
I've got my device yesterday and started "Dead Pixel Test", on the black screen i saw the screen-bleeding.
All my previous devices didn't have a screen bleeding, or it wasn't noticeable like that.
I've started using this phone yesterday. There seems to be a yellowish tint on the screen. Also, the brightness fluctuates at times while browsing. The Screen in its entirety has a warm color to it. The whites don't appear truly white, they have a yellowish tint to them.
Anyone facing similar issues/ knows how to resolve them?
Go to settings, then display and then change the color mode to Vibrant. It serves its purpose in Moto G4 Plus! If your yellowish tint is still not gone, then it must be the screen guard which you might have applied. Always go for Tempered Glass protector or even the Glossy to get that pure vibrant experience on the phone. Never go for Matte as it makes the view dull and pale. Good luck!

Dude, yellowish tint on LCD displays is not exclusive for a Moto G4 line. It´s a manufacturing process and could came yellowish or blue tint on it...
If you want a non yellowish display, go for amoled display phones and u be safe.
If you don´t like yellow tint, try to call a replacement, and maybe, next time u get a non yellow tint display...
Or try to use an app called screen adjuster free avaiable for free on playstore. With the app, u can adjust colors on display at your own taste...

thank you for the tips! I have reviewed and agree with you : the amoled displays are sharper !
I have researched this problem and the amount of posts and videos on youtube about this issue is amazing !!
I installed the recommended program for you but did not get a good fit. I'll keep trying !!
Below I share one video found on youtube about the problem:
Hi,
I bought a new G5 Plus. I noticed there is a yellowish tint towards the bottom of the screen. Is this normal?

No, this isn't normal. I also have a slight tint towards the bottom and I tried to get it replaced under 10 days of buying but it was never replaced and I have to live with it now. If yours has a more distinguishable tint then I suggest you go for a replacement

Thanks for the reply. I had bought it for a friend. Flipkart rejected my replacement request(as expected) after sending a guy to check on it. It's certainly more distinguishable. Didn't you try reaching Motorola service?
Try turning the display setting from vivid to standard, settings/display/colour mode.

I bought it from Flipkart as well and I have the same story as yours but the tint on my phone isn't very strong and is only noticeable when you look at it very carefully or compare it with another LCD screen phone side-by-side.
Also, my screen also used to flicker at a certain level of brightness (Google it, quite a few people have reported it on Moto forum). The technician only disabled hw overlays from developer options and called it a day. SMH

MotoG5 plus yellow screen
While in a TeamViewer secession (from my computer to my Mom's MotoG5+) i noticed her screen change color - like a light brown/yellow hue. with the phone up and down, the hue or overlay covers the entire screen. when turned sideways, it covers 90% of the screen (you can see a distinctive line). with the phone turned sideways the other direction, it covers half of the screen (starting in a little from the left). see the pics.
