Google search (bar) isn't retaining recent searches? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Can someone check this for me or let me know if I accidentally turned something off? ll
For years now, when I'd click in my Google search bar I could see a list of my recent searches.... I just noticed yesterday that it now seems to only show "trending" topics and has a little graph or lightning bolt to the left of it?
I just checked on my sons HTC One M9, and it has his last few searches...But my Axon 7 doesn't.
[EDIT]
Just fixed the "Trending" issue, but now it's not showing anything when I click in the bar.. No recent searches.

'Dot' bug AFTER update

Has anyone else notice the 'dot bug' on the home screen?
if your on the main homescreen (screen 3), it should have 2 dots in each bottom corner indicating 2 screens to the right and 2 to the left.
if i go into an app from screen 5 and then exit the app by pressing the home button, it takes me to screen 3 however i have 4 dots on the bottom left - which is obv wrong!
I only noticed it after the new update (which i did manually)...i havent rooted.
Easy to reproduce, sounds like a simple bug and the developer of the activity needs a holiday
The same bug is affecting me - nice catch!
Same issue here, not so perfect phone now You'd think they'd test updates before rolling them out, saying that it is a minor thing but would be nice of them to sort it out as soon as possible and the Carrier | (pipe) issue too.
yeah i would think that they would catch something like that but i guess not. Some people are saying they are not experiencing the bug, mostly people that have received the update via OTA; then again others say they have. I still haven't updated figured i would wait for the OTA but i'm getting impatient..
Same here. Updated via OTA
I think everyone with the update has it. Doesn't bother me any; my screens are all different enough from each other that I can tell at a glance which one I'm on, so I never look at the dots.

Done the manual update as well and I have the bug as well. Not that it's annoying or anything

Assume this requires root?
Did anyone just try pressing on one of the dots to switch screens, then going back? Mine had this when I first updated, but I did that, and haven't had it since (even after power down).

that doesn't solve it mikeybags, you'll see if you try it with an app on another screen, open the app from the other screen then hit home, you'll see the dots dont go back to ".." ".."
You don't even have to move screens or press the dots to fix this...
Just hold the background and move half-way as if you're changing screens and let go.
Fixed.
Why is this such a big deal?

Official Froyo XXJPO - Bug reports

Please add any bugs found in the Official froyo release XXJPO here.
I'll throw a couple in for a start off:
1) Double capitals on Swype keyboard.
2) Some letters still missing down right hand side of phonebook.
Just out of interest both these bugs were present in some previous beta releases of froyo.
A problem I've had on JPM and the recent JPO I've just upgraded to, is with the Google Search widget on the homescreen.
Whenever I press the text area, the widget moves to the top of the screen, as expected. The problem is it doesn't go back to where it was originally placed on the homescreen and remains stuck at the top of the screen.
It gets quite annoying after a while as the only way I've found to fix it is to remove and replace the widget.
I have the letters missing in the phonebook problem but my swype Keyboard seems OK. However the prob that is really bugging me is all my contacts are duplicated, IE phone and sim, even though I set it to show phone contacts only it still shows them both???
I think the swype problem is usually just in the internet browser, but it does appear elsewhere sometimes. Go to Google or something, and swype two words. You'll find they both have a capital. Or instead of that if you manually type something, the first two letters are capitalised.
I've also got missing letters in Contacts, haven't noticed anything with Swype yet though

What is the problem with missing letters ?
Yes, there is not the entire alphabet on the right, just because there is no enough room. Just like in this forum, thread pages numbers aren't all showed for long threads.
So as I understand, it is not a bug, it is a feature.
Or do I miss something ?
Letters are missing if you do not have a lot of contacts that start with that letter. I noticed that. So I would say it is a feature.
I am on JP6
I don't have a contact with I, but I do have contacts with H. But H is missing and I is not. T is missing and I have got many contacts with T. none with U and U is there. So I don;t knw if u r right abt that being a feature.
Yeah I get the double capitals on Swype and he missing letters in my contacts list. AND the duplicated contacts too... Thought I'd screwed the imports up somehow and was gonna flash again. Won't now. I'm running JPM

Yeah, I too don't have any contacts starting with I and a few with H, likewise loads for N and only one for O, yes both H and N are missing. On JM1 it was a feature where if you didn't have any contacts starting with a letter, it was omitted, but this I'd say is either a really stupid feature, or a bug
That's not a bug, it's a feature. Alphabets are missing because you don't have contacts starting with the missing alphabet. Try adding a contact with missing letter and then report please.

If you'd actually read what had been posted, you'd see that people actually do have letters missing for contacts they have, whilst still having letters for no contacts.
E.G. I have 3 contacts that start with H, but H is not in the list on the side. I have 0 contacts that start with I, yet I is still in the list
Similar bug in Music player too. You'll note that once you start playing a song and navigate back to your library, the alphabetical bar shrinks and some letters go missing
Just to add, context search for songs from the same album doesn't work properly from the now playing screen in Music Player. Fixed only in one 2.2 build if I've not mistaken, other 2.2 versions I've tested have this problem

You have added wrong widget..Two widgets available in widget list search and google search..try google search then you will be all set.
Day names on lock screen appear in English not in the locale you have selected.
If you're able to please index every possible bug in the first post.
Battery
Flashed through Kies last night from JM2. Battery was at 100% when i went to bed.
left it stock (factory reset'ed) with no custom apps installed, wifi off, gps off.
Woke up 5 hours later. Battery: 68%
In the battery usage:
Display 46%
Cell Standby 34%
Phone idle 20%
Why is the battery so bad? I could understand if I had poor signal for the cell standby, but it shows three bars of signal?!
And display...what the hell? It was off all night?!

Uh oh... Sounds like gallery sensor bug is still there.
Mobile AP
Mobile AP still not working, as in other Froyo builds. Can connect but no internet traffic.
As well as the points raised above, I also have some purchased apps missing from market (as in nowhere to be found).
With WiFi enabled, powering off and on takes forever and when the phone eventually comes to life, WiFi shows as being "On", but there is no icon and the GPRS icon is present but there is no internet connectivity at all. Cycling the WiFi off then on again sorts it, and powering up with WiFi off is entirely normal.

2 Annoyances, looking for solutions

I apologize if this has already been covered. If it has, I wasn't able to find it.
1)
After a call, when I pull the phone away, the notification bar gets stuck "slightly" pulled down and touches to the screen are unresponsive. I have to pull the notification bar down all the way, then put it back up to make it go away. Otherwise, the bar just stays at about a half inch (or less) from the top of the screen. I'm using the SuperDark rom, but I don't think it's an issue with that since I remember the same thing happening with one of the first calls I made on the phone. It seems to happen about 1 out of 4 calls I make. I'm pretty used to it now and I usually just end the call using the notification bar when it happens, but I wanted to know if anyone is experiencing this and how it can be avoided/fixed.
2)
Animated GIFs. I saw the post of annoyances saying how the browser doesn't support them. But I couldn't find anything about the Gallery app not supporting them, either. I can deal with the browser, but I use Chandroid for 4chan and such, and it would be nice to view the animated GIFs I save from Chandroid in the Gallery. Is there a fix for this? Or possibly an alternate Gallery app I can use?
Thanks in advance
1. Don't press phone against ear until the proximity sensor turns the backlight off.
2. Don't have a specific answer. But I bet 2.2 wouldn't hurt.
good day
Looks like there was a discussion about the gif thing back in April.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660914
I have seen conflicting information about this, though, on the web. I have a phone with 2.2 at home, so I will give it a test tonight and let you know, unless someone replies sooner.

Solved: Google Now UK

Hi all,
Sorry if already asked, had a quick search but couldn't find anything directly related to the Nexus 7. Does the UK have Google Now with cards etc.? Can't see anything related to Google Now on my Nexus 7 but was sure I set it up on first login?? I've set a calendar event to drive to my parents from work at 4pm today to see if that triggers a traffic card later but otherwise can't seem to find much info on how to use it and whether it works. Certainly can't see any Google Now settings anywhere.
Thanks,
emptybee
Hold down the Home button and a "Google" should appear just above it, select that and you'll see the Google Now Tour
Thanks for the reply. When I do that a google search box appears at the top of a white screen (no cards etc.). Not to say it didn't do the tour when I first did that. I was just expecting cards to start appearing automatically (options like location services are enabled). When I click on the microphone and say weather a weather card appeared at the top of a list of google searches for "weather" but shouldn't things like that appear naturally in the morning?
The other thing that's weird is that I can't find an app or any settings for Google Now anywhere on the Nexus 7, should there be?
NOW should start to build a profile of your travel habits and interests as time goes on, it mainly builds up its info based on your search results. It wont have much to show to start with, but you should see more info and cards as it gets an idea of what you are interested in seeing.
Oops sorry guys I guess I must have not enabled it (i swear i had during first boot...). Went to the search pane and slid it up so that the bar at the bottom was visible with the menu button (three squares vertical). Clicked the menu button, settings and google now was off so turned it on and now gives me two cards when I slide up from the home button on any screen. These cards are the route and travel time to my parents later (as entered in calendar) and the local weather.
Excellent, apologies for my stoopidnessnous.
emptybee
aha, thanks! I had it switched off too, am sure I turned it on too
Two things some people might find useful:
1) You don't have to hold down the home button. Just tap and drag up from there. Doesn't save a lot of time though, just an alternative.
2) Scroll to the very bottom of the Google Now page and you'll see a menu at the right (looks like a stack of 3 dots). Settings for Google Now are in there. Each card also has its own menu at top-right.

Help me find ROM, forgot the name

Hello.
I've been using this certain ROM for quite a while now, and today I decided to try other roms for my HD2, while not making backup of this one that I had used. Not being satisfied with any of the roms I tried, I decided to go back to the old one, just to realize I have no backup of it, nor I know the name. So I need help finding it. I've tried a lot and this one was the most responsive/fastest/most stable one for me, so help is greatly appreciated.
Now, to the things I remember about it, hopefully someone will recognize which rom I'm talking about. It was pretty minimalistic, it was nothing fancy like most of the popular roms now. Came with a greyish stone wall like home wallpaper, there was no google search widget at the top of the screen by default (most roms have that, as far as I noticed), had 5 icons (shortcuts) in the very bottom of the screen, all grayish/whitish. There was 3 home screens you could scroll around with by default, and also the same way you could've scrolled those 5 shortcuts. When nothing was assigned to the shortcut, like when you first scrolled to the next screen, there was a plus sign (+) of the same color as all other. I'm not sure but I think the internet browser shortcut had something like a detective's head silhouette (like a side shot). Could've been a globe, too, looked like a head to me.
The battery levels showed in percentages in the upper right of the screen (without the % sign), with white dots around the white number (percentage) matching the percentage showed. The messaging was set up so it was divided in threads, and each thread looked the simplest it actually could. It said "Me: <my message>" for my sms and had the same format for the other person in thread (in new row, of course), all went left to right, no fancy iphone ballons showing me on the right side, them on left. And it had time stamps underneat the messages. By default only time for today, and date (without timestamp) for any other day.
If I can provide any more information, please let me know. Thanks for reading, hopefully someone knows what rom this is about. I'm not sure how I got to that rom, but I'm guessing it was popular at some time (maybe still is) since it worked flawlessly. Even if it reminds you of some rom that isn't this one for sure, let me know.
Edit: Remembered something, it's big I think. On boot, that animated screen containted while we wait to boot looked like a cube, rotating and disappearing, as if it was made of water, like spilling in the air, or sprinkling. Also not sure, I think it had a letter H on each side of the cube. Also, I'm willing to bet it was gingerbread build.
Edit2: Solved. It's the latest hyperdroid, sandy scorpion.
