JBL Soundboost volume issue... - Moto Z Force Questions & Answers

Everytime I play music thru play music with the JBL mod the volume automatically lowers itself when I raise the volume higher. I also did a reset to the mod to see if that would help but it did not. I am on the latest software version. Any ideas what's going on or if others have the same issue?

I haven't noticed any issue, but I have not taken the JBL mod update that I get the prompt for when I attach my JBL.
Did you have this issue before you took that update?
Have you taken the lates OTA update for the phone itslef?
Just wondering, because I have not taken that neither.

Before the mod update I didn't have the issue. After the mod update is when the issue started, so I decided to update the phone to see if it resolves it, but it didn't. The only thing I can assume is that the speaker has a protection so you don't pop the speaker while blasting it. Not sure if that's a feature, but who knows. Like they always say just because it's the latest doesn't mean that it's the best, so just stick to what you have. Thanks for your reply.

No problem here. Is your volume button a problem? The mod sounds much better since the update but sucks that you are having a problem.

I'm having the same issue. All updates to both the mod and phone. I can turn the volume all the way down and then back up again, and it will increase to full volume, then without the volume setting on the phone changing the actual volume decreases to about half

I ended up exchanging it. Also I didn't update it, I am still on the original firmware. Everyone thought it was a hardware issue with the volume button, but ever since I exchanged it I have no issues. I recommend on exchange it and do not update it.

you should all flash Dolby atoms
and hear the great deference with jbl speaker

Mine worked well for about a month. Now the volume lowers automatically almost as soon as I start to use it. It starts off loud but gets so quiet it is not worth using. I don't have to touch the volume controls and it doesn't matter where volume is set. Tried with two different phones.

I am on Verizon so I can't flash any Roms. It's not a volume button issue it's a speaker issue. It was a coincidence that it happened right after the update. If anyone decides to exchange it I would suggest not to update it.

JBL Soundboost Volume issue
I am using a new pair of Moto Z2 play (N 7.1.1) with JBL soundboost ( software version- 0.57)/ Moto mods platform- version 1.6 , The volume decreases after few seconds of playing on the jbl mod. almost zero. Tried all basic advices. Does not work. Tried uninstalling moto mods manager updates. No luck still... Please help me resolving the issue.

You need to reset the JBL speaker. Hold the button down on the back for 30 seconds. You will see the light flash a few times and you will be back in business. I've had to do it twice to mine.

The best thing to do is to exchange it, that's what I did. I tried to reset the JBL but it didn't work. When I got the replacement I didn't update the JBL. I am afraid if I update it that it will break again.

Give the reset a try before you exchange it. I've had both the phone and the JBL speaker pretty since launch and both are working fine. Phone is running the latest firmware and Moto Mod is updated to the latest as well.

The problem is resolved. I opted for replacement and a brand new piece is delivered and the problem seems to have sorted. No further issues.. Running flawlessly. I ordered from Flipkart. They actually shipped me a refurbished product. Please opt for a replacement if you face similar issue.Thanks..

Yes, I have updated the firmware with latest upgrade and no issues thereafter. The fault was with the previous JBL hardware itself. You can upgrade the sound boost. No problem should arise on doing so. Thank you.

Then I have no idea, sorry. My other guess would be is that you're accidentally pressing the volume key in you pocket or something without realizing it. You could try factory resetting the phone. It can sometimes fox weird issued like yours.

have u check the adaptive option under the settings->sound->adapt sound?
Could it be that the adaptive sound is processing at certain point of time trying to give you the best sound that its think of?
Yes, I have experienced this under the following conditions:
-Phone just purchased, unrooted, completely stock. Playing music with PowerAmp with and without the EQ/Tone/Limit features, also happened with stock music app. The effect nearly blew out my eardrums once, but it happened several times. Music would play and very suddenly there would be a violent increase in sound, almost as if an EQ crashed. Sound went back to normal after I pressed the volume rocker in either direction. I am not so sure that this has to do with Adaptive Sound because I remember experiencing the same problem before and after i configured it. Overall, incredibly annoying and dangerous for my ears.
-Phone rooted, Viper4Android installed as a user app. The same problem happens using PowerAmp, Xenoamp and stock music app, but the increase is not so violent (not sure why, yet). Marginally tolerable, but still very annoying.
I have not found a fix yet, but still keeping an eye open.
That being said, my phone has music playing almost all day every day so I probably encounter the problem more often than others. I use earbuds, headphones and my car stereo. There is a Droid-Life.com review that mentions the issue and credits it to the phone's audio jack: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/10/01/samsung-galaxy-note-3-review/
See the subsection for Audio Jack Issues. Here is an excerpt:
"Then, after a few minutes without touching anything while at full volume, the volume just explodes and you are left deafened by the surprise volume attack."
I would be interested to see if anyone reports the problem when playing music via the phone's speaker.

[Update] Looks like this is not an isolated issue. My friend's wife also facing the same problem and she sent in to reflash the unit at Samsung Care Center and the problem just disappear. My friend told me factory reset doesn't help though.
I have exactly the same issue you have. Same XXUBMJ1 ans using the device for a month now. Unknown and just reported to Samsung and was asked to walk in to get advice.

Sudden headphone volume loss

So i have a stock samsung tab 4, non-rooted and have had no issues untill now. i was relaxing and watching a anime series on my tab with my headphones in, like i do every night and the volume was working perfectly fine then suddenly a pop sound came through the headphones and the volume of the headphones drastically dropped to almost the point of not being there at all. i pulled out the headphones and tested the built in speaker volume and it was perfectly fine, i then got another pair of headphones and tried them, but the extremely low volume still remained, i even used the headphones on my iphone and they worked like they should, so i know that its not the headphones. i reset my device even installed the newest update that i was was putting off due to laziness. but the issue persists. i even very carefully poked inside the headphone jack (female jack) with a paper clip just in case something was jammed in there, i also tried pushing abit harder on the the headphone jack but also nothing. i checked all my seting and they are were they should be, also i only have two apps installed which are crunchyroll and vlc media player which i installed months ago the day i got the device. im very hesitant on doing a factory reset at this point, ill only do it as a last resort, so if anyone has any ideas or fixes that would be awesome. and dont mention the samsung support team i already tried. bunch of script pushers.

I also had this problem once but it was fixed after some restarts and never experienced it again Might be a problem with the headphone jack of the tablet.
And also is the device tab 4 7 inch version ?
hi, the only thing i can think of is to go to your setting for sound and disable safe volume settingmfor headphone/earphones,
also if stock has dsp manager, [i can't remember] turn it off or set it to defaults.

ill continue to restart it more times and hope for it to fix itself, and yes its the 7 inch screen.
Thank me for this fix
Easy fix
1.Turn device off
2. Make sure your headphones are plugged ALL the way in (you should hear a click sound)
3. Press the on/off button and the volume up button at the SAME TIME
4. Once the screen is on let the on/off button go
5. DO NOT let the volume up button go
6. Wait until the tablet has finished loading all settings up.
7. Let volume up button go.
Problem should be fixed now.

M,
hi, could you go into detail as to what that does ? Meaning, is there some sort of device reset occurring [volume], or is this a bug
and if so , is it outlined somewhere in detail? I ask because some resources are available in kernel/platform sources and i'm curious if
some of those libraries can be fixed and re-compiled as a patch for the stock rom. Thanks.

MHC19I Bluetooth Changes

I noticed that after taking the OTA update to MHC19I that the bluetooth volume of a bluetooth audio device is no longer coupled to the android system's media volume.
The volumes used to be decoupled with Android 6.0. When 6.0.1 rolled out, they coupled the volumes. Now they are decoupled again. I'm wondering why they keep going back and forth on these design choices.
Anyway I was wondering if it was just a weird installation glitch with my 6P, or if others are indeed noticing the same behavior on their phones. Thanks for your feedback, guys.
There is no 6.1
I'm sure OP meant 6.0.1.
Same issue on my LG HBS-810.

I'm guessing it's because the coupliing has been problematic. For me, I can't set the volume low enough for a lot of media sources when using Bluetooth headphones. I've been using a buggy equalizer app to bring down the volumes, but I'm happy to hear about the de-coupling. I hope they figure out a better way to do the coupling eventually.

I just updated my 6P and the Bluetooth volume is still coupled to my headset volume. Darn.
I'm using powerbeats 2 bluetooth and they are still coupled. I'm running DU test build with the new vendor. Is there something I need to switch off?
I noticed this yesterday as well. Couldn't figure out why volume changes on my Jaybirds X2 wasn't adjusting the volume on my device. On the one hand, I prefer it as I just boost device volume to max and use the headphones to adjust listening volume. But, on the other, I wish they would stop going back and forth.

I'm actually using the same exact headphones that I'm experiencing this behavior with. Maybe it's just the Jaybird X2 that have this problem with the new update. I haven't had the chance to test this theory with any other bluetooth device, though.

Yeah, I liked it better when the volumes were synced up so it was easy to know what the volume was. But, like some have mentioned higher in the thread, they weren't able to get the volume low enough when the volumes were synced up. Man, this stuff never happens with iPhones. And no, not mine...but my wife has one! Android all the way since inception. But still, it's a tad irksome.
They've been going back and forth with this for years. TBH it's really frustrating. They did the same change when the Nexus 5 came out after the initial build the Nexus 5 shipped with at launch.

[A2017G] Bottom speaker louder than top speaker

STILL NOT FIXED
I have rooted and unlocked my Axon 7 (A2017G) and edited the mixer_paths.xml file to make the audio output louder.
But there's a little problem (and I don't know if it's because of the mixer paths edit, I don't think so)
My top speaker sounds a lot more dull than my bottom speaker. My bottom speakers seem to be louder too.
How to check this? And are there more people experiencing this?
Thanks in advance.
Did not do anything to my A2017G, but I find that my top speaker is louder and "sparks" when near at full volume

Some say it's dust, but I don't know how. I haven't called with this phone much.
Bump. It's everywhere. Even on LineageOS, bottom speaker is almost twice as loud :/ It can't be dust.
BUMP
This problem is getting on my nerves. The bottom speaker is twice as loud and crispy as the top speaker, which sounds dull.
Anyone else had this and possibly fixed it?
Two questions
Did you try to reset your phone and test the speakers again?
Is there the same problem on YouTube and mp3 music files?

1. Yes I switched between roms to test modems and other stuff for ZTE.
2. Ofcourse. It's obviously the same on every output.
I guess it's just a hardware fault, but I thought maybe someone would have fix (clean it or something?)
Then I would say that this is an hardware problem indeed.
Having the same issue here, thought that other ROM will provide the fix but still zilch. Rooting the phone only meant the void of guarantee so not really good move there either.
I read somewhere online that usually bottom speaker is the one to go out first and that global version has the speakers a lot different then American and Chinese version). Any other possible fixes before replacing it? And where to find the replacement too?
Update: it should be software related since the sound in earphones has the same problem - only inverted. Which means there should be a tweak in binary or something?
I'm willing to pay to whoever makes this problem disappear. I'm beyond the point of helplessness here...
Fixed!
Fixed the issue finally! ??
Go to:

- accessibility
- mono speaker output.
For the last trick to work, just try to disable it, then enable it and restart the device. Disable it again when device rebooted. Worked as a charm for me! So I'll be saving me some money ???

Omg! This problem was bugging me since day 1, but could not find any solution to this... But I've tried what you said and it works wonders! Can't believe I can now finally listen to music the way it was intented, since having a speaker with lower volume on a stereo setup is very annoying. Thank you very much for sharing the solution with us!

Weird bluetooth issue, anyone? 8.1 final

Ever since I upgraded to 8.1 OPM1 last month, my car no longer plays it's default generic ringtone when a call comes in. I have basically done everything I can to fix this but nothing is working. Anyone else having this issue? The only thing that remotely works now that didn't before is if my phone volume is ON, it will play my phone's actual ringtone through the speakers on the car but that defeats the purpose. I have my phone on vibrate nearly 100% of the time and when I get in the car, I don't want to have to turn on the volume to hear the phone ring. I have completely reflashed the image multiple times, reset my settings in my car, pair/delete/re-pair multiple times, turned off media streaming on phone, but nothing is working. The only thing I haven't tried is completely factory resetting my car's MMI system. There have been no updates to my car either. I contacted google support/nexus forums but they didn't think it was a bug in 8.1 even though the issue started with 8.1 and was find on 8.0 and below. I still think this is an OS bug. For reference, I have a 2014 Audi S4 with the MMI 3G+. I am thinking about pairing my phone with my wife's car to see if it works with hers. I have not gotten the January OTA yet but will probably manually flash it if I don't get it tonight or tomorrow. Any ideas?
@jrg67 Enable developer options and I believe theres option in there to fix your issue.
My Bluetooth crashes on my phone now when I connect to my stereo ever since the 8.1 update. No problems on other Bluetooth devices like speakers and headphones. My Clarion CX505 has the latest updates. The January security update didn't help the problem for me.

Exo, I had Dev options enabled already and from what I can see in your screenshot, my settings are the same except for disable absolute volume which I have on (my jbl speaker doesn't like to play nice sometimes and when I connect, it's max volume for no reason). So do you have any specific settings in there that you have played with? The only thing I can think of would be the streaming codec. As stated in my original post, I do not recall my phone ever playing the phones ringtone over the car speakers no matter what. Even if I had the volume on, my car would always play the generic tone which I prefer. Now, it'll play my phones ringtone over the speakers only when the volume is on and the phone's volume setting effects the volume that's coming out of the car speakers too. It's super annoying and I honestly just want it back to the way it was. Now, I'll get a call while driving and my entire system goes silent and the only indication of a call I get is a faint vibrate buzz sound from my phone sitting in the cup holder and my MMI screen which I have to take my eyes off the road to verify wtf just happened.
Very strange and sorry I guess I didn't read through enough of your post. The only issue I have is when I first get into the car must turn the Bluetooth on my phone off and then on again after first connect in order to play music. Hope you can figure that out sounds super annoying.
Well for anyone who may have this issue, I finally figured out a work around. Go in to Dev options and turn off "Enable in-band ringing". I then turned BT off/on, tested and now working as it used to. Never noticed that option in there before today but honestly haven't spent much time on it. Cheers.

Nope, I got a Pixel 2 XL that has 8.1 with the Feb patch and it does the same thing. I may try reapplying the Bluetooth update to the radio and see if that helps.
