I think i bricked it. Pls help - Samsung Galaxy J5 Questions & Answers

New phone. I wanted to block the marshmellow update. I read that the only way to do that is by installing Package Disabler Pro and checking "software update". I did that and the update notification disappeared but the ~200mb update (or whatever the size it is) was still downloaded and it was taking from the phone's momory so i wanted it gone. I factory reset the phone to remove that update but forgot to check back the "software update" check boxes (there were 2) in Package Disabler Pro. After factory reset the next button from the choose wifi page was grayed out and i was able to continue only after i connected to a wifi network, this didn't happened the first time i configured it. And at the google account page after i enter it along with the password it doesn't go forward, it goes back to the google account page. Any chance to recover from this without losing the warranty? Thanks

fixed it, can be closed

How to fix Clear credentials disabled/grayed out???

Hi,
I have a N910C Exynos (oem) on Lollipop and i´m tryning to wipe my credentials but in the Security options the "Clear credentials" option is disabled/grayed out. How can i turn this option on??
Explain and Things that i already tried:
Problem starts after i tried to root my galaxy. It was already in 5.1.1 (OTA installed) and when i tried to root i got a boot loop.
- I did the factory reset wiping cache and data/factory reset and still got on boot loop
- Tried to return to original condition installing by Odin the 4.4.4 stock version but got sw rev check fail .... 2 binary 1 on android screen and Fail status in Odin
- Tried to install 5.0.1 and same thing
- Installed 5.1.1 normal.
- After boot up, Clear credentials (as some other features, like lock screen) was already grayed out
- Tried to do a downgrade and Fail
- Tried to do the encrypt and decrypt the SD card, but same thing
- Tried to unlock screen with samsung find my phone, change to pattern mode, choose a pin code after pattern, reboot, put the wrong pattern on porpouse but it never ask for the pin so i could try to use google account to reset
- Tried to uncheck and check every admin
I tried pretty much everything that everyone write on this forum and internet. Nothing seems to work.
Is there any third part app to clear credentials or anyone has any idea how can i fix this F#[email protected]# problem??

When the clear credential is grayed out means there aren't any credentials to wipe. Basically, what is your problem?

In Security section some options are grayed out with this status "disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage"
The Encrypt device option have only Pin and fingerprint on, the rest is disabled... I saw that if i clear the credentials it would fix this problem...

So, try to explain better your issue via posting some screenshot or writing more clearly.
Do you mean the Screen Lock Type?
-from Lock screen and security > Screen Lock Type
I think you previously encrypted your device and now you are having issues, have you tried to get access to your old files?

I´m new here, can´t post any links to my photos. Sorry if i´m not been clear, my english is not that good. I´m from Brazil. But i will try to explain more clearly here:
1 - I go to the Settings > System > Security
2 - In Security tab i choose Encrypt device (codificar dispositivo)
3 - Then i click to choose the lock screen option
4 - The 3 options are grayed out, just the PIN (senha) and Fingerprint (Impressão Digital) are enabled
I just got the phone. Brand new. Then i tried to root but got stock in boot loop, so i installed the stock rom and then i saw this problem.
I have never encrypted the phone nor the SD. I can access everything in my phone but this options. Knox are diabled to, since i tried to root and got Knox status 1.
The only way to highlight the 5 screen lock options is if i go to samsung find my phone, click in unlock screen device. Then the phone gets unlocked and i got a pop up to choose a new screen lock. But if i choose, for an example, Pattern, i draw the pattern, choose a pin code, but as soon i finish it all options get grayed again.
And in the lock screen i can draw the wrong pattern as many times as i want but i don´t got the option to use de PIN to get into device.

Ok, the path is a a little bit different for me. I´m in the Security -> Trusted Credentials... Here i can see 2 tabs: System and User
In system there ar a lot of credentials and they are all enabled, in user i have none.
Just a heads up: I already tried to disable all of them one by one before. Didn´t help
Did you ever get this figured out? I have tons of certificates installed and turned on. Some are from China, Turkey and in other languages. I want to remove them all but Clear Credentials is greyed out. I'm using a Samsung S5 on v6.0.1 (not rooted).

Did reset on Marshmallow - Cannot log in to Samsung account... phone is locked.

So I wanted to do a factory reset, to try and fix my adaptive storage issue.
It just did not work, no matter what I tried.
So, I went into the Recovery, and did a Data erase.
Now it prompts me to enter into my Samsung account - which is all fine - it worked several times before.
But now I get a "Processing Error".
The username + password is 100% correct, I can log in to my account on my laptop.
If I modify the login to some wrong one, it says "Invalid..." so I am sure it's something else.
How do I fix this?
Do I have to downgrade to LL to log in, disable lock, then upgrade, blah blah blah... tell me that's not the solution...
Oh yeah, before you guys ask: "But why didn't you just use the Reset in Settings"?
Well, I tried.
It just did not let me through the login screen. I mean, it did. Then it closed and popped up again.
Again, and again, and again.
And so I did the recovery reset. And now I am clueless. :-/
Back to basics.
Reseted my phone again. Somehow I managed to bypass login in the past - now I just cannot.
Flashed 5.1.1, but no change.
- Remade my account around 10 times.
- Tried all my passwords since I ever had the phone, with all my email combinations that I ever used for Samsung Account.
- Tried to "escape" with these bugs, but no Accessibility and similar stuff, so I can't get around the protection.
So, I will just blog about my suffering.
1 ) You can bypass the latest lock by...
2) Downgrade to 5.1.1 - but maybe this works on 6.0, don't know.
3) Install SideSync on PC, plug cable in
4) Open Chrome, install a Home Screen, and open it
5) There you bypassed. And you still can't add your Samsung account.
By the way even the website shows a quick "Wrong login" when I try to login.
So maybe the entire Samsung Account is messed up beyond repair.
I will try to upgrade to 6.0 now and pull this off again.
If that does not work, back to Youtube I go.

Thank you for the post, but i have resolved this way:
> Entered recovery , wipe data and cache.
> Flashed the earliest version of lollipop.
> Immediately after the flash is done i rebooted into recovery and did another wipe data and cache.
> Clicked on accessibility,vision,text-to-speech options, on preferred i selected Google Text-To-Speech ,clicked on the settings button , Install voice data , in upper right corner clicked on the three dots, open source licenses, select some random text and clicked on magnifer (search). It will ask for gmail enter your gmail.
>After the browser shows up type inside the search Lollipop Android , open the website from android , (IMPORTANT TO OPEN WITH NORMAL BROWSER) , in the upper right corner click on the dots, settings , manage accounts and a window shows up to sign in with your Samsung Account, you login in with your Samsung Account.
>After signed in press the back button untill you get back to the initial page of setup.
> Proceed with the setup.
> It will now ask you again to login with your Samsung Account due to abnormal reset you must login with the samsung account you have logged in previously.
> DONE !

Disabling System updates on the Verizon LG V20?

I'm hoping to prevent my phone from taking updates in case a root exploit is found (but then quickly patched by VZ). I've disabled updates in the developer options (Settings/About Phone/Software Info/Build Number - click 7 times to enable developer options menu / developer options menu / Automatic system updates set to off).
I did that the other day and that was after taking the first "performance" OTA which had already downloaded/installed.
I figured that would do the trick however and hour ago I had my phone sitting on my desk connected to my PC via USB and when I picked it up there was a note saying something about my phone had been updated(?). Maybe it was just a notification I hadn't gotten from the first one somehow popping late but I'm kinda confused.. And this was a message about a system update (I should have screenshotted it or read it more my first thought was **** did I not toggle that developer option correctly....but I had). It was the message saying you may want to reboot as it may have drained the battery on your phone.
I'm on Software: VS99511A
Config: B16.LGE.VS995.0
Build NRD90M
Kernel [email protected]
I noticed in Application manager if I show system I can see 2 "System Updates" and I'm guess those are what kicked on and did something while I wasn't paying attention. Can those be disabled? One of them has an advanced permission for "Modify system settings" which I toggled to "no" cause I figured at worst that would just cause an error. The other I can only force stop and then disable but when I attempt to do that it warns me that doing so would hide it and I'm afraid I might not be able to relocate it/re-enable it (w/o a factory reset?) and that could be a serious problem
How is everyone else in the "hoping root come relatively soon" boat handling updates?
Thanks for any discussion/suggestions....

In developer options there is disable automatic system updates. I like that feature.
Edit: sorry. I reread and saw you saw that. I had recently found that.
I'm still on 10b I disabled in the dev section and I get the constant you need to update but hasn't done it auto thankfully

Any idea how to get past a at&t v20 that has updates already trying to install? Flash a new ROM or maybe a factory reset? BTW its already rooted but I forgot to disable the OTA updates. Thanks. EDIT: Nevermind. Just did a wipe on dalvik and cache, which took care of the problem.
Freezing System updates 1_15_10_0 and System updates 1_16_02_0 using Titanium Backup (this requires root), will stop those messages. It was nearly the same set of processes for the V10.
I've also seen a recommendation to freeze FOTA Update 7.0, and a method using the phone's hidden menu.
I'm not addressing rootless options since this message was posted a month and half before me2151's DirtySanta bootloader and root guide was released, that's no longer an issue.
I'm on 10m and recently rooted. I cannot find 1_15_10_0...I found the other file and successfully froze it. I've also frozen the FOTA Update. I tried accessing the hidden menu, but I get an error message. On 10m, is there a 1_15_10_0?
EDIT: Sorry for digging such a long-dead thread. Didn't see the more recent one that's also active.
Hey guys I know this is OT but is it true that the v20 from Verizon is unlocked and can work with any other sim?

Oneplus 5 stuck on setup?

EDIT: Solution was to sit with OP5 technician which flashed my ROM to Oxygen 4.5.1. After this didn't do it, I RMA-ed it and got a new OP5.
EDIT: TL;DR: After updating OP5 to 4.5.5, It doesn't recognizes sim nor wifi, and can't rollback to 4.5.3 that did and stuck on phone setup (needs wifi). ADB devices is empty, I have Google USB Driver from SDK, Windows 10
Hello,
I just got a new OP5 today.
Opened it in the store, came with Oxygen 4.5.3 outta the box.
I putted the sim in, and I connected to the store's wifi, all was good and even had a phone call to my mother to check if the mic and speaker are working well.
Then when I got home, I upgraded the OS to 4.5.5 through the settings, where Android suggested. I'm new to OP and android (moved from iphone 5) and so if there is a right way to do it, and that's not it, I wouldn't have known.
Then, OP5 didn't recognize the sim anymore and couldn't start the wifi (switching it on wouldn't work, it would do nothing), so I tried Factory reset. Unfortunately it didn't reset the OS as well and now I'm stuck outside can't use my sim card or connect to my home wifi to setup the device.
Tried installing OP5 usb drivers (show when connecting the OP5 to PC) and press the power button and lower speaker volume together, then flush the 4.5.3 OS through USB, but it doesn't recognize ZIP folder and when I tried to unzip and send boot image (cmd->"adb sideload boot.img) it started and then failed at 0%.
Please help, the phone right now is unusable.
Tried the Factory reset through settings, but it took so long I thought it was stuck, so I did it through recovery screen.
Sounds like you got a lemon... I'd take it back and see if they'll swap it for another. Less than a week should be replaced immediatelly, at least that's been my experience here in Oz...

Why should it be replaced in less than a week? Also, isn't there a fix for adb problem so I could flash 4.3.5? Maybe a remote takeover?
Mine had 4.5.3 on it when I got it, updated to 4.5.4 then manually downloaded full rom, placed on internal memory and flashed 4.5.5 through the settings.
Had zero problems with WIFI before, during and after the update. No problems since.
Generally updating to a higher firmware version won't allow you to regress back to the lower, not sure with Oneplus as this is my first.
I'd also, if you can boot into Android go to settings nd check my IMEI numbers to see if they have been wiped (this can cause the sim to not be recognised) . If you have no IMEI then that is a BIG problem which will require an RMA unless you had backed up your efs files which from your description I doubt..
If the IMEI is OK I would download the full firmware version from here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/oneplus-5-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-t3628190 - then using PC put the FULL ROM onto the internal memory then go to recovery and flash.
I'd also then unlock my bootloader(Just remember though that the phone will wipe all data after unlocking bootloader) and install TWRP - don't forget to 1st enable developer mode in settings and then allow usb debugging and OEM unlock - make a backup of the working stock rom and put it somewhere safe - home PC, in case this happens again. Best idea is to use the all-in-one tool, here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...l-skipsoft-android-toolkit-oneplus-5-t3625419 thankyou MSkip.

I can't pass the "Connect to Wifi" in the initial setup of the android, as it finds no wifi networks (but of course there are, when I use the sim in my iphone it works properly and there are wifi networks). So I don't know how can I get the IMEI number.
Right now my PC recognizes the OP5 connected via USB, but "adb devices" bring back empty list.
I think that once I get that working, I could unlock the bootloader. But I can't seem to be able to enable dev mode in settings - I can't get there.
I can only get to the recovery screen beyond the initial steps of setting up android.
Right now there is no important data on the phone and I have my laptop which is virgin to ADBs and Drivers (didn't use it to try to resolve it).
What driver and where do I get the right ADB so I could load 4.5.3 from usb to the phone?

Might be wrong but I thought you could skip the wifi select screen on the setup wizard.
If you can get to Android you need to go to settings, scroll down to about phone and tap around 8 times on build number to enable developer settings.
You might be able to, might, pull down the settings menu in the wizard and bypass the wizard.

I guess only Oneplus can help me now?
Do you have any suggestion on fixing adb so it would recognize the OP5?
No, you need to enable debugging in developer settings for ADB to recognise.
Time to RMA...

Welp it is a pickle.
Going to go live chat with OP "level 2" representative.
See if they wipe the phone out and restore an older ROM.
If that't not going to work, RMA it is :/
Shame. A new phone. Took only one picture with my dad when we opened it back at the store. nothing else.
Unfortunately bad things can happen... You just got to be the one who got the dud this time round.....
Here's hoping it's the last time....
you can force update to a fresh installation of 4.5.5 by putting the 4.5.5 full zip into your phone in a folder called "update". Reboot to recovery im assuming you have stock recovery and follow the steps until you find the option that says something along the lines of "Update manually". It will detect if you have an update folder stored on your phone and it will begin reinstalling OOS 4.5.5. It sounds like a software problem but could be a hardware problem. Rule out the first option before RMA the latter.

When I connect the OP5 to the PC there are no folders under it (Computer -> OP A500 -> no folders), but I'll try and give it a shot. see what happens. Will update this reply.
Update:
After Oneplus flashed Oxygen 4.5.1 on the phone and some other magic I was able to skip wifi step on setup, yet still when I try to activate it it won't budge. the slider won't move and it looks as the page is being refreshed. Also, when I try to get into sim section in settings it would just freeze and alert the program stopped and suggest to close or wait.
Oneplus says it is hardware issue, and the fact it happened when I upgraded to 4.5.5 from settings menus is coincidence. They say I need RMA it.
If anyone knows how to fix it then I'm more than welcome to hear it.
EDIT: it also won't shut off unless I long press the power button.
