Device manager software (PC) - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Do we have any another software for device managing? Like on Sony we have Companion.
I know Motorola Device Manager. But we need more functionality, it's only updater.

Install SEUS and just plug your phone in to install the firmware that the software gives you.
Normally the firmware you're given is location dependent.
of course u need to root ur phone again
long time waiting for stock SE 2.3
Yes it does, our phone is made by Apple. They choose what you can do and what you can't do.
Our x10 will always be recognized by PC Companion/SEUS unless we change our bootloader. But that's not possible yet!
Thank you
According to unknown13x, YES! They are working on only offering updates to unrooted phones.
He told us to make sure you are NOT rooted for the official 2.3.3 Gingerbread update via SEUS or PC Companion.

I can smell sarcasm.
It shouldn't make a difference if they can tell or not, as they've previously stated that the phone will be wiped when you update to 2.3.
If in the unlikely event that rooting does prevent updating, you just need to flash the world generic 2.1 update via flashtool before you hook up to SEUS. One more step and an extra 20 minutes isn't that big a deal.
Regardless of whether you have to flash back to stock 2.1 or not, at the end of it, you'll end up with a non-rooted clean install of 2.3.

Kies for MAC (OS X)

Just to let you know that kies for Mac's been released yesterday and it's available for download from Samsung website.
Seems to be exact copy (at least UI) of Windows version.
Is it fully functional, like Win version? Last time I tried to use KIES mini on my iMac and get the information, that my phone (SGS2) is not supported.
Thanks for news, will download as soon as I get home.
Fully functional. Exactly like Kies on Windows

http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/d...EU&prd_mdl_name=GT-I9100&srchword=Galaxy+S+II
yeah works gr8 on mac
Nice to know that...
Thank you, i'll try it later!
Hopefully Mac version will be more reliable than PC, which is very buggy...
Wow, I was DLing this in the morning (awaiting for my device) and did not even realize its the newest version.
Thanks.
Am I missing something or is there no way to upgrade the phone firmware?
Well the Mac version only has options to Sync Music/Videos/Podcasts. Thats it.
Theres no Samsung App Store inbuilt and also I don't see any option for Firmware Download settings or Emergency Firmware Recovery or Install Drivers settings.
So the Mac version seems highly limited in comparison to Windows one.

kies software and fully functional is just not possible lmao
Well, looks like we can still use Windows KIES to update soft and wait untill samsung learn how to do proper software on MacOSX...

Well, I heard, that Odin is a service tool and there is an "inside counter", that tell the service (when you give phone on guarantie), that you've used it x times. I'm new to Android (I had i4 until last week) and still learning and I'm quite afraid to use Odin. Can I brick phone using odin?

Can you brick a phone using a firmware-flashing utility which let's you overwrite your phone's internal drives with random binary files? Yes.
That said, I find Odin much easier and much more reliable than Kies.

PC Companion Download Link Here

For all those having trouble with PC Companion download. Do the following.
Download this. Sony Ericsson PC Companion 2.01.123
Install it, when it launches it should automatically update to the latest version. I've done this and it does update to the version shown on the SE page that cannot be downloaded yet!
And? What is the extent to this post? Just wait, your PCC will be updated automatically! They only say you need PCC to update but they DONT say that you need to redownload the PCC.

Well, I actually posted it for the people who dont have PCC installed. The latest download link on the SE website is not currently working.
So for those who want to install it, this is the alternative!
Good job man )

PC Companion and Verizon Xperia Play R800x

Is PC Companion supposed to work with the US Verizon version of the Xperia Play (R800X)? It doesn't appear to be anywhere on the phone to install to the PC, it's not mentioned in the documentation from Verizon or their site (as far as I could see), and when I downloaded it from the Sony Ericcsson website, it didn't seem to recognize the phone, although the PC itself does.
Thanks for any help/advise/info you can share, and if this info is here somewhere, I apologize for having missed it.
Model R800X
Build Number 3.0.1.E.0.88
Android Version 2.3.3
Kernel version 2.6.32.9-perf
Baseband Version 7X30A-AAABQMAZM-1290_10-3

nope, pc companion works with all the Plays except the verizon one.
edit: unless they updated it, it looks for mtp (media transfer protocol) which the r800x does not have

here http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...s/subject/pccompanion/xperia-play?cc=gb&lc=en
Well that's one vote for Yes and one for No!
Any tie breaker voters?
EDIT: OK I can answer this one for myself now, and anyone else who is on Verizon. paxChristos was correct - it looks for MTP mode and the Verizon phone does not have that option anywhere in the stock ROM. Perhaps if it was flashed with a custom ROM, but as I have only had the phone a week, I'm not quite ready to do that yet. Something about having to pay somebody $25.00 to unlock my phone just so I can risk bricking it... I'm not ready to go there yet!

No it doesn't. Unless your phone is rooted AND has a custom ROM installed, but he is not asking that.
The Media Go app is nice though, whether you go with it in addition to the PC Companion or on its own.

OTA Updates No Go

So all of us with Verizon that are hoping for an update to use our phones the way they were meant to be, this official post from Sony makes me think we will never see them:
"Sony confirmed that the update will take place via PC Companion/SEUS and Bridge for Mac only. There will be no OTA updates and no notifications either. The reason behind this is that they want users to make a conscious decision when upgrading to ICS given that it is a significant revamp and that it “may impact performance in some user scenarios” given that it requires more resources."
Well, Verizon R800x's do not work with the PC Companion as we can't switch to to MTP mode with our stock phones. So am I misreading this article or are we really stuck with basic "buy from a store like Meijers or Wal-Mart" phone?
It does
From about October/Novmber-ish, SEUS works with the R800X.

It's an all-in-one tool for all phones - it downloads the files for your phone. Here's a link:

SEUS doesn't use MTP. Its what flash tool is based off of.

Every time I connect it tells me to switch to MTP via USB Connection Settings, which R800x doesn't have? I must be a complete noob at cell phones. Ha.

First off uninstall PC Companion, it is trash for the R800x.
Then download & install this: http://sony-ericsson-update-service.en.uptodown.com/
(Sony Ericsson Update Service, a.k.a. SEUS)
I've used it (well, not that link, but the same program) a couple of times to reinstall .88 after testing a few things.
Pax
(Also www.wotanserver.com will probably also have the update within a month of it coming out...)
Since it's not OTA does this mean I can update without having to relock my bootloader? I know that OTA updates on an unlocked loader brick the device.
