Is PC Companion supposed to work with the US Verizon version of the Xperia Play (R800X)? It doesn't appear to be anywhere on the phone to install to the PC, it's not mentioned in the documentation from Verizon or their site (as far as I could see), and when I downloaded it from the Sony Ericcsson website, it didn't seem to recognize the phone, although the PC itself does.
Thanks for any help/advise/info you can share, and if this info is here somewhere, I apologize for having missed it.

nope, pc companion works with all the Plays except the verizon one.
edit: unless they updated it, it looks for mtp (media transfer protocol) which the r800x does not have

Well that's one vote for Yes and one for No!
Any tie breaker voters?
EDIT: OK I can answer this one for myself now, and anyone else who is on Verizon. paxChristos was correct - it looks for MTP mode and the Verizon phone does not have that option anywhere in the stock ROM. Perhaps if it was flashed with a custom ROM, but as I have only had the phone a week, I'm not quite ready to do that yet. Something about having to pay somebody $25.00 to unlock my phone just so I can risk bricking it... I'm not ready to go there yet!

No it doesn't. Unless your phone is rooted AND has a custom ROM installed, but he is not asking that.
The Media Go app is nice though, whether you go with it in addition to the PC Companion or on its own.

Update no longer current
Because of the new SEUS Update Service program update, the link above is no longer current. The current version is 2.10.5.11, while that link still believes the current version is 2.10.4.22. I tried installing version 2.10.4.22 but it updates to 2.10.5.11.
I have an X10a rebranded to X10i. Now i'm trying to go back to X10a and I cant due to the program update.
Can someone provide other methods of rebranding? I have tried the PC Companion 2.0 and no luck going back to X10a.
Bump. Anyone can create the new files for re-branding given the new "com.sonyericsson.cs.usbflashnative_2.10.5.11.jar"?
What about X10 Mini

Try here m8: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793
the build.prop contains all the version information.
i am not sure, but if SE refers to build.prop on the phone to determine if update is available, then people can swap their build.prop with the one that they want to brand to and do a repair via seus..
just a thought though...
Lol. Yup it's official. Sony Ericsson has just announced that on May 31st the update was released. So approximately about 6 to 8 months later the United States got there update. I'm glad I flashed generic though. Congrats to those of you who were afraid to flash generic firmware via flashtool. Lol

That's about how long it took them to update their windows mobile 6.1 to 6.5 after Microsoft gave them the update.

Well its not SE's fault. The one to blame is At&t who declared EOL after a month or two and refused to update.
Just out of curiosity, which baseband/build number is the AT&T update?

I bet Google had something to do with this.
Firmware 2.1.A.0.492

Yes, At&t branded. I haven't updated myself. I'm running WB CM6, and don't have the time. However, in my At&t guide to update to 2.1 people have.

I also requested in the baseband thread that someone upload it.
u just need to find blob_fs files... do a search for how to convert blob_fs files to .sin files for flashtool compatibility...

More than that, it's an improved camera application. Autofocus on both still and HD as well as Face Recognition in the movie mode.
I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks, face detection in movie mode would be interesting to have.... I've downloaded the tft, I'm considering it, since it's definatly rootable....
I just have to remember to restore my TiBackup as USER Apps and Sysdata....
Is the multi touch just dual touch or have they actually incorporated more than two fingers?
And can someone upload the new camera and multi touch apps.
thanks.
Wait, so the att version has more features? And is it as smooth as 2.1.B.01 or laggy?

How about enabling "unknown sources" for apps? Even after rooting, I cannot install Root Explorer or Titanium Backup!

You need to restart your phone after rooting if I remember correctly and install busybox from market. You can enable Unknown sources from SuperOneClick.
I just flashed the 2.1.65 BB from the AT&T FW. I used it for like 30 mins and did not notice anything different. I went back to the 2.1.54 FW of the X10a generic kit. My concern was that after you flash the 2.1.65 BB from the AT&T FW, in the hidden menu, under software version, the phone is identified as an ATT -user and NOT GENERIC - user. This may be a problem when 2.3 is released since it will only be available for generic kits. Anyway, I am back on 2.1.54 BB from the .435 generic kit.
Although I appreciate AT&T finally releasing their build of 2.1 for the X10A, I'll stick with the Sony Ericsson generic world 2.1 release instead.
For those going with AT&T's version, remember that you'll end up getting:
AT&T bloatware (removable after rooting)
Unknown Sources in Settings > Applications removed (can be enabled after rooting - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9588447&postcount=3 )
Data locked to '3G' (you'd lose the 'H' data connection, where available)
AT&T branding (you'd never get access to Sony Ericsson's upcoming Android 2.3 update for the X10)
Is the new AT&T 2.1 build that much better than the generic one? Face recognition in video recording mode...is that really a handy feature? Is it better on the battery? Is the touch screen smoother? Reception better? We need more AT&T X10 users to chime in.

I think you need to install it via Motorola software/update manager or something like that.
Or you can wait for like a week and it should be OTA.

Worked for me via the PC. OTA wasnt available yet.
What is your current firmware and system version? Go to about phone....
Also, make sure you are downloading the motorola software update and when you connect your phone, select motorola tool rather than USB mass storage device.
It took like 5-10 minutes for my phone to even be recognized in the update tool, so be patient! It will then ask you to unplug your phone and turn off your PC. Then to turn it back on with USB already attached. Maybe try this if it isnt recognized first time round.
My next step is to try this on my UK retail 2.3 device

Phone rooted. Woop
So all of us with Verizon that are hoping for an update to use our phones the way they were meant to be, this official post from Sony makes me think we will never see them:
"Sony confirmed that the update will take place via PC Companion/SEUS and Bridge for Mac only. There will be no OTA updates and no notifications either. The reason behind this is that they want users to make a conscious decision when upgrading to ICS given that it is a significant revamp and that it “may impact performance in some user scenarios” given that it requires more resources."

Well, Verizon R800x's do not work with the PC Companion as we can't switch to to MTP mode with our stock phones. So am I misreading this article or are we really stuck with basic "buy from a store like Meijers or Wal-Mart" phone?
It does
From about October/Novmber-ish, SEUS works with the R800X.

First off uninstall PC Companion, it is trash for the R800x.
Then download & install this: http://sony-ericsson-update-service.en.uptodown.com/
(Sony Ericsson Update Service, a.k.a. SEUS)
I've used it (well, not that link, but the same program) a couple of times to reinstall .88 after testing a few things.
Pax
(Also www.wotanserver.com will probably also have the update within a month of it coming out...)
Since it's not OTA does this mean I can update without having to relock my bootloader? I know that OTA updates on an unlocked loader brick the device.

Getting pretty worried here. Have tried every day since this came out to get the OTA notification on my SPG512 I purchased from Sony Mobile in the US. Updater still says my .36 is the latest version even though Sony web site says .402 is available. I have tried using pc companion too and still no luck.
Is the rollout still going on or did they halt it? Anybody in the US get it yet?
I got the .402 update from the pc companion. I'm in the US and have the spg511. I got my tablet from Sony Mobile in the US as well. You may also want to try the Sony update services as well, since pc companion didn't work for Windows 8.1 it also gave me the update too.

I don't know how to retrieve the file when using the sony update services unfortunately. If you know how to do it or if someone else knows I would be willing to do it. I would assume it's a US version since I bought it from the Sony Mobile USA site.
I am in the same boat.
I have the 512 and no matter what I do, I am not getting the update. However, users of the 511 variant are reporting updates. There are even FTF for the 511 on xda but not for 512.
I have the 512 which I bought online from the Sony store. I live in Florida and check daily for the updated firmware. Nothing to date since I purchased it last month. I have used the software update on the tablet, as well as both the PC companion and Sony's updater from my pc...nothing so far. The website says that ...402 is the most recent firmware update, but then says I have the most up-to-date firmware.
Hmmmm.
is there any difference between the 511 and 512 besides internal memory? Why would 511s get the update and not 512s......

In order to know how to do that you have to do something that, although very very difficult, is doable for you, if you really really make an effort:
Read the forums.
I have rooted my G Pads in the past.
