Downgrade from 6.01-4.4.2 - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible, I've seen a video where it is done but need to go to LP first, I much prefer kk on s5 as running a ported s5 kk on my s4 and wish to keep it. Any time I flash a kk stock based rom via twrp it boots to boot animation and then freezes and reboots. Any one done the downgrade?

I did it, straight from 6.0.1 to 4.4.2. But I did it using kdz files. I think you also need to downgrade the modem. etc.
Just make sure you reset your phone, clear cache/dalvik before you go to download mode. You will have boot loops otherwise. Which is easily fixed by going to recovery...and resetting, clearing cache.
Of course this means you can not keep your data. Do backup with TB, etc. and restore after.

I don't suppose u have a link to these files? With my s4 it was lp - kk and we used a modded tar file ( full rom) via Odin then flashed which ever stock kk we wanted. I feel stock 4.4.2 deodexed rooted with busy box is best for me.

Just get the stock 4.4.2 rom and flash it with odin you don't really need to do nothing special for that, anyways I would recommend to just install Cyanogenmod 13 and fell good about having a good rom, unlike us with the H variant stuck with ****ty touchwiz lol

Problems with ODIN'ing stock recovery

I am currently on the unlocked MDL bootloader, and I am running KANGAKAT 7.0, which is a KitKat 4.4 ROM. My phone is also encrypted, which means that I cannot flash updates due to CWM/TWRP not supporting encryption.
The solution proposed by other users has been to ODIN the stock MK2 recovery onto my phone, use the stock recovery to factory reset my device, then re-flash TWRP and then my new ROM.
However I'm having a problem with these steps. I am able to successfully ODIN the stock MK2 recovery to my device, however whenever I try to boot into recovery, I get the yellow triangle screen stating that I'm running software that is not authorized by AT&T, and stating something to do with my kernel in the top left of the screen.
Is there a step that I am missing? I followed the instructions @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506697
It looks like that file is for the s2 skyrocket, not the s4. You'll probably have to flash the complete mdl firmware in Odin
Edit, if you're still rooted try flashing twrp 2.8.3.0 image file in flashify from the play store. http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/jflteatt

Yeah, they're instructions for the S2 Skyrocket, but I just used the general procedure and not the file, I used the stock recovery listed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49687791&postcount=3
You make an interesting point though, if I ODIN the entire stock MDL ROM, that could work. I'm just going to write over it with another ROM anyways, so what I restore to shouldn't matter. I know this is probably a dumb question, but flashing the stock MDL ROM isn't going to affect my MDL bootloader is it?
I can get TWRP 2.8.3.0 with or without Flashify, but that app is very convenient, thank you for the tip =)

Flashing the mdl firmware in Odin will still give you the mdl bootloader. But it'll want to update after you flash so flash another custom rom or freeze the update files before it does so.

@ChrisG683 Be sure to turn your wi-fi off and remove your SIM card, that way it can't update. You can put any apps you think you might need on an SD card and install them without having to go to the play store. Once you get things frozen or removed then you'll be good to go. :good:
Thanks guys, I'll be sure to keep that in mind once I get things sorted out.
The newest thing I've figured out is that the MDL stock recovery does not give me the "yellow triangle" error, and it presents me with the option to wipe my device. (I grabbed it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2429406)
Now I'm just making sure I have a stock MDL ROM ready to ODIN in case I screw up my device =). Hopefully this all works out.
Edit:
Looks like everything went beautifully. The MDL stock recovery wiped my /data partition perfectly, and I was able to reboot into a fresh and clean copy of KANGAKAT 6.0. Then I was able to use a terminal to flash TWRP, did a factory reset, flashed KANGAPOP 1.4, and now you can add me to the list of proud Lollipop users =)

Well did you keep ANY KIND FORM OF BACK UP TO RESTORE BEFORE GOING TO LOLLIPOP?
If not,
1. Returning to stock will bring you back to Stock KitKat ROM.
2. Back up your data and pictures to the cloud or Hard Drive.
3. Download your .kdz file using your IMEI from www.lg-firmware-rom.com
4. Like @raulx222 said, Return to Stock Firmware.
5. CREATE A NANDROID BACKUP.
6. Install your desired custom KitKat ROM.
Give more info please. When you flashed lollipop, which ROM you flashed? you flashed other files too?
Anyway, flashing the stock firmware is almost any time a way to solve the issues ..You could backup your files from TWRP via MTP and then flash the stock firmware. You also can backup your files with TWRP using a usb flash stick and a OTG cable.
restore to kitkat
Hello just flash this attached file in recovery. After that flash jb bootloader for d802 and baseband and recovery you use for roms you use. Everything will work
Btw the zip contains stock kk 20H partitions you need to restore. Simplerom to work on lollipop modify this partiton on your device to be as f320 model in some areas to get lollipop booting
Tell me did you make it boot

Stock ROM Backup

Hi,
I have rooted and installed TWRP on my 910F Note4 as I was fed up waiting on the lollipop update rolling out. I am currently on 4.4.4 and have made a full backup using TWRP of the stock rom.
My intention was flashing the Cyanogen ROM and using that, but i now see on sammobile there is a stock 5.01 rom available. I have a few questions about this.
1. If I flash to Cyanogen can I still revert back to the stock rom 4.4.4 I have made a backup with? I read somewhere there might be problems as I was on KitKat then moved to lollipop(Cyanogen).
2. Can I flash the stock lollipop rom from within TWRP? Or do you have to do this via ODIN?
3. If I flash the Lollipop stock ROM with Odin I assume I will lose root and TWRP? So this would have to done again?
Guess I am asking what is the best way to proceed?
Thanks again
Paul

hi Paul,
1. i beleve to flash CM from kitkat you will need to install the lollipop bootloader first.
2. You have to flash the stock rom via Odin, you will keep all apps settings and files but you will lose root (you u can re root in 3 minutes)
Best thing you could do is flash the stock rom first with odin, see how that feels (IMO its good been using it for months now) and then root it and back it up and flash CM12 (you dont have to flash any boatloader at this point)

Ok tried to flash Stock O2 UK lollipop ROM via ODIN and got error message on screen. MD5 too big or something. Had to pull battery on phone. Had to then reflash TWRP. Got back into TWRP and tried to do a recovery of the backup I took but phone is stuck at Galaxy note 4 screen. It then shuts down and restarts and gets to the same screen again.
Do I try a different ROM? What can I do?
Thanks
Paul

I got it working by flashing the German non branded ROM... Got the error message again but then used a "All samsung recovery.tar" as stated on another post in here and it booted fine eventually... Now on Lollipop. Now time to flash with TWRP.... Again!!!
Please, i need help !
I need help, urgently !
My Note 4 SM-N910C does not work. I can enter the Recovery and the Download Mode. When attempting to install a Custom ROM gives me an error that says I have no data. In the internal memory I have 0mb.
I tried using odin, but I can not .. Salta error.
Someone who can make a backup of your phone (which is factory), leave me a link to download it? So I install the TWRP. Please.
They have another solution?
Thank you.:good:

Acquiring lollipop from 4.4.2 nc4

Hello
First let it be known that i have searched my butt off and tried many different things. The best i could get was a rooted phone and a non working safestrap install.
Can someone please give clear instructions here in this thread to either a) install safestrap on 4.4.2 nc4 or b) let me know if it's possible to install verizons stock lollipop firmware using odin (no recovery required).
I would love to get a working custom recovery to try different roms. Failing that, id love to know if it's possible to just flash stock lollipop firmware on this device.
I'm sorry to make such a request, as my first post.. But have been rooting and roming and xdaing since the Samsung vibrant. I'm just tired of trying to make this locked bootloader work. I must've tried a hundred different things.
As of right now ive odind back to 4.4.2 stock with nc4 kernel and said root, busybox, and supersu.
I'm familiar with odin, flashing, all the terminology, and can find the files on my own.

Yes..you can flash stock firmware for 5.0 via Odin. You will lose root and as of this time....can not root 5.0
once on 5.0, you can only odin back to 4.4.4 which is also unrootable.
simplyeorange said:
Yeah you can go back to 4.4.4 I've read post of people on this forum saying they were able to get back to 4.4.4 you need to download the stock tar. Which you can find on sammobile than boot into download mode and then open Odin flash the stock tar. After its done flashing Then boot into stock recovery and do factory data reset. Wait about 5-10mins and should boot you into 4.4.4

Thanks for that. I'm sorry about the aggressive tone of my original post. I was just quite frankly mad at how much verizon locked the note 3 down. I own it, you know? Lol.
I wanted custom recovery mostly for the nandroid backups. If i flash the nc2 kernel on 4.4.2 with nc4 kernel... Supposedly this is supposed to make safestrap work with one rom slot (stock). I tried this but it soft bricked. Is there a custom nc2 kernel I'm supposed to flash?
Also if i odin the stock 5.0 files will this keep all user apps and data? I suppose i could use titanium backup for that but I'm not sure if it will be compatible from 4.4.2 to 5.0?
I guess i have to debate whether i want nandroid backup abilities or lollipop.

Back to Stock - Will Odin wipe?

Guys,
So I'm on CM12.1 - all great and what not, but I've had enough, and want to try a fresh Stock install. I've downloaded the latest 5.0 build from Sammobile
My questions are
1. What happens to root?
2. What happens to KNOX 0x1?
3. Will ODIN wipe clean the storage? [I expect it to wipe all installed apps, but will it wipe local data? i.e do i need to move 10gb+ of stuff and then move it back?]
4. Will I be able to get OTA updates?
5. Will my recovery still be there? TWRP currently.
6. Will there be a modem/baseband problem with going from 5.1.1. to 5.0 ?
Cheers
Usually when you flash to stock, you want to preform a factory reset to clean and clear the system.
Root should be removed.
KNOX counter is invisible but should still be tripped.
You will be able to get OTA I believe ( not sure, haven't had one in a while).
Recovery will be lost.
I did not have any problems with my modem/baseband ( I think it resets to stock)
+1
Right, cool.
I get that you should probably clear the lot out to start fresh. But I'd still like to know if Odin will do it for you or not. So the internal storage, if I left a folder in there called XDA with a file called XDA.txt and I ran the ODIN process to get back to stock - will I boot into a fresh stock TW install and then find my XDA.txt file still there or not?
Cheers for your time guys!
I think it should be there, but the phone will boot in a crazy way such as no ui. In order to even use the phone after a factory flash you need to make sure factory reset it.
Maybe if you connect it to the pc you will be able to get in and save your data, but I highly doubt it. Be cautious as sometimes the phone can get stuck in a boot loop until you factory reset.

your XDA.txt file should be still there.
Many users are finding it difficult to root Lollipop.......Even with CF Root......
My advice would be to flash a KitKat firmware, root it and then Flashfire to Lollipop (and use Flashfire to inject root to the LP firmware)......
