[All ROMS] Problem with sound, dialer, video and sound payback, battery, heating. - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I'll give you all info about the situation.
Its i9505.
There is no sound at all, dialer is VERY VERY laggy and when I manage to dial a number, it just stucks (see photo), it wont play any videos or any music tracks from any web sites or internal memory, the phone itself gets very hot invery fast time, and battery drains enourmously. Problems appeared all in same time, when the phone was still in the stock 4.3 MKF firmware. At first, I thought it was a software problem. Then I just basically tried factory reset, of course it didnt helped, then I flashed few custom roms, and every time still was the same problems. Maybe some you may call me dumb or something, but I've spent about 15hours searching, downloading, reading and flashing lots of ****, and still didnt get these problems solved. In this point I have CM 13 and CWM. I tried flash back the original rom, but ODIN gives me error <ID:0/003> FAIL! (Auth) , and now, with my head aching so much, I ask you for help. Hope to get some answers soon, thanks a bunch in advance.

If you're going to flash custom ROMs, use TWRP.

I flashed all custom roms with twrp, now I have cwm because i saw in One thread that cwm factory reset solves these problems, but it didnt and Then I gave up and started this thread. Its about 1minute to flash twrp back.

I see.
To go back to stock it's recommended to use original cable and back USB ports. If it still doesn't work, try a different Odin and/or Windows version.
But, generally, if you have the same problem across different ROMs, it's usually some kind of hardware problem.

I've read in few threads and forums, that modem issue can cause these problems. Is that true?

It may be possible. Flashing a newer stock ROM should also update the modem and bootloader.

[Q] after new baseband no calls

Hey friends,
I really looked everything up, but I could not find anything what helped me with my problem.
I have a Galaxy S4 (GT-i9505) and I wanted to update my modem from MKE to ML6. Because I had some issues with updating it (there still was the MKE at my "Status" after updating to ML6), I tried to double-overwrite it (someone wrote at a forum, that that will solbe the overwriting method). So, I started Odin 3.09 and deleted the "Auto Reboot" option. After the first flashing, I took out the battery and replaced it again. Then I did a secound modem flashing. The result was: There was still the MKE modem AND I cannot call anyone. Everytime I try to call someone and I click the call button, my Galaxy seems to crash. The screen is getting black and I have to shut it down by holding the power button for several secounds. Of course, I already tried out other modems (like to MKE modem again and MJ8), but the problem still exists.
Could anybody please help me!
Thanks,
Robert
Have you tried changing rom + modem? you cannot just randomly try modems with a certain rom as some will work others not.

Yes, I tried both the Google Roms 4.4 and 4.3, as well as several other custom roms.

it seems that your doing in a wrong way mate Try this , Turn OFF your Phone Manually (Wait about 5 sec) Now press and hold Power+VolumeDown in order to reach Download mode. Open odin select PHONE/CP (Find the modem you download) Connect the cables (check to see if it shows added on top/or should be a blue?Notsure or wait atleast 10 sec) then click start ,once done , remove the cable. and after done rebooting go to you phone setting>More>Device info and check if your baseband version change. have a nice day.

Thanks, but that is what I have done at least ten times. I tried Odin3.04 and Odin3.09. I tried MKE, ML6, MJ8. I tried Google Roms 4.4 and 4.3, as well as other custom roms. That's weird!
I have never had any luck with 3.09 i always stick to 3.07, where are you getting your modems rom?

Had the same thing yesterday, tried all sorts of modems, with no avail.
Ended up flashing a stock rooted Rom (MGA), flashing a custom recovery and restored a Nandroid. Forgot that flashing a complete stock Rom usually also wipes the internal SD so that was a bit of a hassle.
Now, running a new Rom again, with Wifi, sound and being able to make/receive calls again. Easiest fix also: flash a (compatible) stock Rom :good:

Thank you mate. I also found (5 sec before I read your post) this post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46969768&postcount=2
So, everything works now. The short version for other guys with the problems is:
- flash stock rom via Odin (PDA)
- you can find the stock rom for your country at sammobile.com
- also use the "pit-file" of the linked post (but I don't know, what the pit-file is changing?!)
optional:
- re-root your device again, because now it is not rooted
- new custom rom
Thanks for every help!!!

Try flashing ML6 Firmware and ML6 Modem (and Wi-Fi fix if needed), had the same issue but after doing so it's fixed.
Occured 1 time again, did a cache wipe didn't occur in 2days now.

Except flashing the Wifi Fix was the thing I did to ruin it all. Don't flash a "new" Wifi fix using an old bootloader. You will lose sound/being able to make calls. It's the thing that messed it all up over here.

I was already on the new bootloader.I've flashed Original FW, Modem + Wi-Fi fix and it fixed my phone. (Possibly also PIT but can't remember)
It can be that our problems were different but produced the same problem.. I'm not a dev nor do I understand everything about Android.
I can be wrong, but that's how I fixed my phone. Just trying to help

[Q] Stuck in boot animation-Can't mount \data after KK update with odinPc

Hi all,
After a looong night flashing and downloading again and again trying different methods, I'm out of ideas.
I have a uk n9005 (btu) that was happily running out of the box 4.3 stock until yesterday night. No root, no flash attempts before.
I started by flashing german 4.4 (dbt) without wiping before (big mistake, maybe) and without pit file and no repartition nor bootloader update checked. The error came out and I flashed again with the pit file. I let the phone reboot, but it didn't go further than the boot animation. I take out the battery and boot in the recovery. That is when I saw the can't mount \data error for the first time.
I tried to wipe, although it was impossible since the data was not mounted. However I could (and still can) wipe cache. I restarted the phone, and again the same situation, stuck in boot animation. From this moment I've tried many things:
- Flashing the bootloader separately and then the rom. no results (data not mounted and stuck in boot animation)
- Flashing custom recovery and after, official cm11 nightly and another cm11 based rom. no results (data not mounted and stuck in boot animation)
- Downgrading to 4.3. Not possible. Thank you Samsung!
- Firmware recovery with kies 3.0. no results since 4.4 has not been released for my region (maybe waiting for if to come out would be a solution)
- Flashing Polish and german (againg) 4.4 with and without pit file. no results (data not mounted and stuck in boot animation)
The only thing I can think of that I haven't tried yet is flashing a custom kernel, but I can't see any advantage in doing that. Next approach is taking it to the technical service to see if they can solve this situation. I'm afraid they're going to ask for almost as much money as a new note 3 costs...
P.D: I know I haven't taken part a lot in this forum, but I've been reading it for years, since I started playing with my SGS back in 2011. This is the first time I'm really lost after spending the night searching the forum (not only the note 3 section). This really pisses me off, with my previous phones I could always find a way to bring them back to life, but with SGS4 and SGN3 things are totally different thanks to samsung. (sorry for this looong post)
Thank you in advance
have you checked repartitioning when using the pit file?

No problem. Let us know the result.
I'd try Odin 3.04, with the original stock polish rom.
I had no trouble using the Polish KK rom that came in 4 pieces, AP, BL, CP and CSC. I flashed 2 Note 3's using this with no problems whatsoever.
I can't say for sure you won't but it's worth a try...
Also, check to see if your Knox warranty has been tripped as this can happen when fooling around with roms.
You will have no love with Kies even when your region receives KK rom as Kies doesn't recognise bootloaders since MJ3... Good going Samsung, have had a few months to fix and have done NOTHING...

I've been searching for a rom in 4 pieces but I haven't find it. I downloaded 2 polish roms and neither of them was in 4 pieces. Can you tell me where can I find it? Because at the moment it's impossible to download anything from sammobile... Thank you!
My knox warranty was tripped just after the fail size error in odin, the first time I attempted to flash. However that's not my main concern now... haha
"Nice" to know that about kies. At this moment, the only reason to buy another samsung phone is the big community behind it :victory:. I thought they were going to do something about the bloatware, but it's getting even worse every time a new phone is announced...

It's going to be difficult that someone has it, since most people prefer 1 file roms. I will pray to sammobile haha
I'm not an expert, so I don't know if it's something critical for the phone (data mounted) to boot, but whenever I had this problem before with my previous phones, I was able to fix it by flashing a sock rom with odin or going back to the previous rom. So, my main concern now is that after all the flashing I've made, I still can't mount \data.

[Q] Can't get the phone to work normally again

Hi,
I've owned all the Galaxies and never had any problems installing ROMs.
Ten days ago I bought an unlocked new GT-I9500 in USA. It's not a knockoff, I've checked the IMEI and I know the device (I've had one for a year back in 2013), there is no chance this phone is not legit (even though it's made in China).
I brought the phone to Argentina, where I live.
When I first turned it on I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, so I assume it worked fine. The thing is I didn't get to test it thoroughly at that moment because I installed a 5.0.1 stock ROM right away (I think the phone came with 4.4.2).
This 5.0.1 ROM worked horribly, all apps were force closing all over the place (even unopened apps), without me doing anything, I would be just watching the screen and the FC dialogs would just pile up. The phone was unusable because you needed to dismiss several FC dialogs before you could get to the screen below, and by then you got a new FC coming up.
Many times when I rebooted, it would say it was optimizing 3 or 4 apps, and then it would work a bit better, or maybe a bit worse, it was a totally random thing. It also rebooted spontaneously, Play Store would close spontaneously, many apps refused to update giving error codes like "unknown error 960" or something like that.
Things I already tried:
-Reinstalled same ROM 5.0.1 I9500UBUHOE2_I9500UUBHOE2_I9500UBUHOE1_HOME.tar
-Installed different ROM 5.0.1 I9500UBUHOE3_I9500ZTOHOF1_I9500UBUHOE1_HOME.tar
-Did all wipes, before and after
-Reinstalled with PIT and re-partition
-Installed Philz and tried "clean to install a new ROM"
-Reinstalled 5.0.1 ROM
-Again tried "clean to install a new ROM"
-Reinstalled 4.4.2 I9500UBUGNJ1_I9500UUBGNJ1_I9500UBUGNJ1_HOME.tar, which is the version I think the phone originally had installed.
-Of course, in the meantime I lost the IMEI and had to restore it from backup.
After downgrading to 4.4.2 the situation got a little better, but I still get several FCs and spontaneous reboots. On one opportunity I booted into recovery, wiped cache, and when I rebooted it got stuck in the boot logo. I removed the battery, turned it on and it did the same thing. I had to boot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset to get it to boot.
I have two theories:
1) There are some residual files or settings from previous ROMs that I can't seem to get erased, and these are interfering with the new ROMs I install.
2) The phone is defective (memory issue, perhaps?)
Theory 2) seems odd because before installing 5.0.1 for the first time, the phone appeared to work correctly. Granted, I just tried it for a minute or so, but anyway.
Theory 1) seems odd because I did all the wipes, the "clean to install a new ROM" thing, and even re-partition. Can any problematic data survive after all that?
I guess the questions for you guys are:
1) Did this happen to anyone else? Could you solve the problem?
2) Is there a way to erase the phone more deeply?
Thank you.
Ricardo
The PIT file should repartition the phone, meaning it should also wipe it.
Are you sure it is a GT-I9500?
People tend to repair phones with compatible parts from other phones. In this case maybe they used parts from other S4 models (9505, 9506 etc).
Boot into download mode and check the phone model.

The phone is brand new, and I've checked all known signs of it possibly being fake. I'm pretty sure it's not fake.
See attached image.
Sound like your storage is corrupted.
If you are out of options then you can try to select nand erase all in Odin. Maybe that could fix it. Make sure to add a .pit file, bootloader, modem, rom and check re-partition before doing that.

I believe there's no "brand new" S4 in the market right now.
I haven't used philz but twrp .. and if you also install twrp recovery for i9500 ..then you get option for advance wipe .. check everything in advance wipe ( don't forget to take backups .. contacts ..files etc) then swipe to wipe everything .. then go back to main menu and reboot in download mode .. (you may get warning like no OS installed) then install a new ROM via Odin from PC .. you will get a fresh installed ROM
If you still face any FC .. go back to recovery mode .. choose advance then do fix permission .. hope that helps ..

The Samsung official Roms have all integrated, SO, booloader, modem, etc. What lacks is the pit file, you have to get it from other place. I have an I9500 and had those issues when installing 5.0.1 official rom, i believe is not a very stable rom and also drains a LOT of battery. If you can install a custom recovery, try the "[GearCM][i9500][5.1.x] Optimized CyanogenMod 12.1 for Samsung Galaxy S4" rom, the post is in this forum , I'm currently using it and works awesome.
Ok guys, so I tried nand erase and the results are the same. Used both a 5.0.1 and a 4.4.2 ROM. Could this be a memory hardware error? Is there anything more radical that is left for me to try?

You can try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-orig-develop/mod-multirom-v28-t2864469
Then you can boot a rom from your sd card. See if that works ok.
Will try that.
In the meantime, quick question: I've noticed that after nand erase the IMEI is retained. This would mean that nand erase does not erase everything really. Isn't it possible that some information is preserved (like the IMEI), and this is what is causing trouble?

Hi,
I have reported this thread to be moved to the right Q & A section where you might be able to get help quickly.
Good luck.
You flashed a custom rom?
well did you check the bootloader and modem?
example: your old firmwara was based on a coh4 and the new custom is based on coj3.. then you get bootloops.
In this case please download the fitting bl & modem to your rom!

Trying going back to a 5.0.1 firmware
N910PVPU3BOF5 ( I pulled that from N910P) Didn't remember Sprint model number.
So if I'm wrong find the correct model of sammobile and download 5.0.1.
See what that does. Bootloader should not be locked so it should be possible,

what version where you trying to get back?? if its lower 5.1.1 it might be impossible for now since the new bootloader wont let you downgrade,, if not just try wipe cache and factory reset

update: i can use cyanogenmod for a few minutes but then it shuts off again. my sprint sim card is not readable which is wierd since its a sprint rom cog5 baseband. any ideas :crying::crying:

You flashed a custom rom?
well did you check the bootloader and modem?
example: your old firmwara was based on a coh4 and the new custom is based on coj3.. then you get bootloops.
In this case please download the fitting bl & modem to your rom!

I having a similar issue for a few months now. Nobody seems to have a clear answer. I am not a noob and have flashed back to factory a million times on other phones.. I have spent hours trying everything with no luck. Sprint store will not help... pretty frustrating. Let me know if you find a solution.
Have you tried a new battery yet?

me too, i also have a bootloop for a couple of months now. tried literally every single combination of bootloaders/modems/kernels/ROMs . i can't even get into recovery, but can get into download mode.
do you guys think trying another battery may seriously help? how could a new battery help getting out of a bootloop if download and/or recovery mode work fine?
I don't think another battery will do anything. I think it is all software. I can flash CM11 btw, so you should try that. But my system is extremely unstable... it works... but is beyond frustrating. my smart watch wont work.. have to restart phone throughout day.... so many problems I cant even list them all.

A battery? How in the world would that help? That makes no sense... no offense, just sounds like you are asking someone to unnecessarily to spend $$$ when it is clearly software.
I'm having the same problems and want to know if op has tried it so I'll know if it's been ruled out of the problem thats why. Ok so it's software. You have the solution. No offense.

The only solution i can find is to replace the motherboard or replace phone all together.

Were you able to get it fixed? I'm probably going to go to a phonerepair shop this weekend or next week and see what they say or can do.

Flashed 930UUEU on a 930A

Just got this phone in yesterday as a replacement for a water damaged LG G3. Thought to myself that I was pretty good at rooting, flashing etc. so I decided that would be the first thing I would do. Long story short, I rooted the phone just fine and even flashed the non-bloatware-filled rom available with little problem. Then I tried to flash xposed with flashfire and, well, things didn't go so smoothly. Ended up getting stuck on the AT&T splash screen after every reboot. To attempt a fix for this I thought I would just use Odin to flash stock, what I thought was stock but was really 930UUEU, once again. I am now realizing that I flashed the wrong firmware and am currently trying to flash G930AAT once more but keep getting "FAIL! Model dismatch fail" in Odin.
Open to any suggestions at this point as I am at a loss. I've tried using a different version of Odin, 3.12.3, but to no avail have not been able to get it right. Let me know if you need any more information as to help me with this problem. Thanks in advance!
You're probably flashing an older firmware than what's on phone? Which verison are you trying to flash?

Currently the phone boots straight into recovery. I get the update droid that fails and am sent to the options where it has me as running G930UUEU2APEH. I am pretty certain that this is the firmware I mistook as stock and half-flashed with odin. Still able to get into download mode so let's hope I can work this out!
Download the U firmware that I posted and flash that. Should flash fine. I've done it several times with the mode Odin from the root thread with zero issues

Worked like a charm. Is there anything I should know about being on U firmware while having the 930A?

Alright, looks like I may have run into another problem. I've rooted and flashed xposed properly this time. Kept getting a security warning so I thought it would be okay to uninstall SecurityLogAgent.apk and I am now unable to install apps. This may just be a coincidence and it may be that I have a different problem. May also be important to note that I have to reinput my WiFi password after every reset.

Reflash the U firmware and that will restore the security log agent app. If your rooted you'll get that notification, you'll need to freeze one of the security apps in titanium. As for the WiFi password there is a fix for it in this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039/page230.
Also you should probably flash his V15 fixes it will fix multiple things when you root.

I did, it fixed my WiFi issues and being I flashed the debloat version it also got rid of Instagram etc. so I am certain it worked. Could it have something to do with me installing lucky patcher?

Just an update. After some deduction I decided it must be lucky patcher. Uninstalled it, wiped dalvik cache and everything seems to be fine. I am still cautiously optimistic.
I'm no help on the root issues. Root isn't what it used to be so I don't really mess with it anymore.
