just got this phone so many things are pissing me off already , how do i make it behave like lolipop?
1st problem, navigation button do not rotate in landscape mode, how can i make them rotate tot he bottom when in landscape mode, do i need an xposed module, gravity box or can i do it another way?
2nd problem how can i make the home screen rotate , someone said there was an option in google now launcher settings, there is not, i updated the app and still not here, and besides i want to use nova launcher
3rd problem, volume rocker buttons do not invert when in landscape mode, how do i fix it?
4th problem , can't switch on wifi and hotspot at the same time switching on one switches off the other
i have done this in android before not sure if it is a device issue or or because of marshmallow
1st time using marshamallow and i hate it , can i just flash a lolipop rom to this thing ? are there any custom lolipop roms , this OS sucks and i bet nougat will be even worse
1: I believe you need tablet mode or an equivalent to get nav buttons on the bottom of the screen in landscape. I don't ever remember a phone doing that with out a tablet mode tweak.
2: if you have auto rotate on and install nova, nova should rotate when you set it in nova settings.
3: volume rockers rotating is in most custom roms, id say gravity box or another Xposed module will accomplish that. I don't use Xposed so I can't swear to it.
4: I've never seen any of my prior nexus phones or any android phone be able to connect to a wifi network, and be broadcasting a mobile hot spot. There is only 1 wifi chip, and can only connect to one network at a time, be it connect to wifi or broadcast a wifi hotspot. You might be able to USB tether and connect to wifi, but that's the only way I see it being possible.
There is no lollipop for this phone, as it released with marshmallow. I very seriously doubt it's even possible to build a lollipop rom for this phone.

so there is no xposed module to get the buttons to the bottom?, you think google would have had this as an option since this is a phablet and the biggest one on the market at that , it really makes no sense for the buttons to not rotate to the bottom on a device of this size
i looked in google now launcher settings and there was no option to set home screen rotation to on
i have seem some articles saying it is in there on the 6p but it was not there on the version that was preinstalled on my phone , so i update google now launcher and it is still not in there ,unless it was only there in a version or 2 that were released between the one i had and the one i updated to ,unless google added it and took it out again , like they did with chrome merge tabs to apps option
i could not find the option, but i read in an article that it will only work with google now launcher anyways
unless there is an xposed module to fix it
about the wifi and hotspot , my dad has a POS samsung galaxy avant form metro PCS
he has not wifi network, i got him a chromecast but he has no home internet
and i was able to setup the chromecast and cast to it using only his phone, both as a wifi hotspot for the CC
and to cast to it at the same time, without either being connected to any wifi network
so if i travel to a vacation spot that has a tv but no wifi network i will not be able to take my CC and use it
with this phone,
his crappy samsung galaxy avant will let you have both on at the same time it does not disconnect one when you turn on the other, allowing you ti use CC with the one device and no wifi network present, i guess google removed this too sometime in the past wither with kitkat or lolipop not sure which OS that phone is on but it worked
The way you explain using the CC is the definition of a wifi hotspot. You are sharing your cell data to the Chromecast via your wifi. You just turn your hotspot on and the phone will communicate with the CC and it will pull the internet via your cell data. I've never used a Samsung avant, but unless it had 2 wireless adapters in it, you cannot have two wireless networks running at the same time. You should just need to connect the CC to your hotspot and it should just work.
As far as an Xposed module to move the nav bar to the bottom, there may be. I haven't used Xposed other than trying it out when it first came out. Gravity box would be a good place to start looking.
I'm using the newest (still tech unreleased) Google launcher. It's the one showcased for Nougat. It allows rotation by default. You should be able to find it in the themes and apps sub forum here.
You said you wanted to use nova anyway, and I know it will allow rotation, so it shouldn't be an issue for you.

no i am coming from an iphone
i can't deal with IOS, when the memory fills up on the phone you can't just free it up by deleting some photos or videos , you have to backup and restore the phone with itunes ,which is ridiculous and i hate using itunes for anything it's garbage and it never works right
i guess i was expecting stock android on this phone to run like it does on my tablet, i only ever used anroid on TV boxes, and tablets ,and old version on samsung phones but samsung ruins android with their crappy skins and bloat
they should have made options to have the nav buttons rotate to the bottom in landscape mode like it does on a tablet, it's a phablet and a really large one at that so why would anyone not want to have the buttons rotate to the bottom? volume rocker not switching to inverse in landscape is just really poor ,i thought android was all about customization but now i am finding out that i can not customize even simple basic things that should have been included stock anyways , there is no way to get the home screen to rotate to landscape unless i sideload and old version of google now launcher but i want to use nova launcher
no way to get nav buttons to shift to the bottom in landscape unless there is an xposed module or an option in gravity box, from what i read there is a way to invert volume rocker buttons but it won't work in marshmallow yet
why does google include these features on thier OS for tablets but not on their flagship phablet , it just does not make any sense to me

\yes i had no problem using the CC with the galaxy avant as both hotspot and as a casting device , just phone ,CC and a TV no wifi network or other phone , but i have seen lots of people complaining that they could not get their CC to work like this, they said they needed a wifi network or they needed a second device one to be used as a hotspot and another phone or tablet to connect to the CC to cast from ,because they said they could not their phone to asct a s a hotspot and a casting device simultaneously it worked fine for me after some fiddling around though, but i i have not tried it with the 6p yet , my CC is on my network ,guess i will just have to test it out with just the 6p and CC and no router and see if it works

You hate Android on the 6p and you hate iOS. Why don't you root it and try the tweaks you want to make, and STOP COMPLAINING? If you do the tiniest bit of research you'll find mods, kernals, themes, ROMs and scripts to help you do almost anything you want to your phone. I guess it's just much more enjoyable for you to complain and troll for responses.
You've had two threads closed by moderators. You're unpleasant and unhappy and spout a bunch of opinions as though they are fact. Google actually spends hundreds of hours testing interfaces with real users and agonizing over hex codes and pixel-perfect positioning, so the fact that you want something different and think that should be the final word means absolutely nothing. If you don't like it, change it. If you just want to keep complaining, don't bother.
Blocked.
I agree. All the issues I see can most probably be solved by root. I tried to help you out, but you still co plain, yet you haven't even attempted to root your phone to try the solutions suggested.
I don't really consider this phone a "phablet" as there are quite a few phones of this size these days. Google decided to go "phone or tablet" route and not dwell on the in between. There are several phones larger than this and they all behave the same way afaik.
We have nexus phones to mod them and tweak them. If you aren't happy with it, buy a Samsung or iPhone, or just bite the bullet and make your phone your own.
I've used nexus devices for 4 generations now, and never had the "problems" you've had. If I did, I'd probably have bought another series of phones. Just read some thread and follow some instructions and you can make your phone exactly what you like.
This is exactly why I went to Roku instead of chromecast. Living in a rural area and no access to high speed internet sucked trying to get the chromecast to work as you need a device connected to the same network to control it. I used an old tablet for awhile, but in the end buying a Roku or fire stick solved it completely since they have their own remotes. Some times we are so spoiled by having endless options it is easy to get mad when something does not work as we think it should.

i just got the phone and only owned lolipop tablets which i have rooted and flashed with custom roms
i have not owned any modern android phones so i was expecting it to be the same on the phone like it is on a tablet, like IOS same on on the phone as it is on the tablet , i was not expecting to not be able to customize things like home screen rotation and nav button rotation, google just does not do things right sometimes
i just got the phone so now i notice all the flaws in it,like the phone app ,it is buggy and it does not recognize left to right or right to left swipe all the time to move between contacts, recent, voicemail some times i have to swipe 5 or 6 times for it to move,
my xiaomi mi band takes forever to synch to the app with bluetooth when it works instantly on my lolipop tablet, little annoying bugs like that are now becoming evident to me, i was really not expecting this
maybe if update it will fix it but i doubt it

I just picked up the Streak today from Best Buy. Once I saw the $50.00 price and realized I could update to 2.2 right away, it was a no brainer, so I thought....
I am actually digging the Streak, if I can get a few things worked out. I am coming from the Captivate which I just recently upgraded to Froyo. I actually love the Captivate now that it has 2.2. I just love the screen size of the Streak more!
FWIW, it looks like the Froyo that I installed is not the AT&T version. I dont see any of their bloatware. Is this good or bad?
The problems I am encountering with the Streak are, backlit buttons do not light up when touching the screen. They only light up when I touch them, which defeats the purpose of backlighting. I also dont see any provisions for mobile AP or tethering. I thought that, even though they may be locked, that they are part of Froyo and should be there? Same with "power widget"??? that is normally above the pull down notification window? You know, where you turn on/off GPS, WIFI, bluetooth? I don't have it. The other thing that came with Froyo on the Captivate but not on the Streak was the Task Manager. Should that be there?
After updating and setting up most everything, it started getting a little buggy. Screen orientation was doing weird things and locking up. Wifi seemed real slow, after being super quick. I went ahead and did a factory reset and I am still having the same issues. I have not noticed any orientation issues YET. BTW I have never rooted a device. I am not against doing it if it fixes things but I prefer to stay stock. Any help is greatly appreciated.
It probably is stock 340 if you did the ota update which is at&t version of froyo for the streak. If you want to tether try barnacle always worked for me. You will have to sideload it because at&t blocks some apps in the market. When i had my captivate i learned a nifty lil trick you can put your phone in airplane mode then turn on wifi go search the market for the at&t blocked app and it would show up worth a try. The power widget on the phone long hold the screen and check widgets.recalibrate your screen that will help don't realy know how to post links so (search, search, search) everything you need to know can be found here on xda its the best site ever hope that helps you some. Remember search i cant stress enough how important it is. Alot of smart people on here i learn something new on xda everyday.
I came from a captivate....
the buttons in the drop down are part of samsung touchwiz and not android itself.
you can get the same desired effect with more buttons using Power Control Plus.
Thanks guys for your help. How about the backlit buttons that don't light up when touching the screen? Is that normal? Also, can the haptc feedback be lowered?
I just turn the feedback off i havent really paid any attention to the lights but i will now. if u root just use superoneclick v1.7 works great just get the right dell drivers.
There is only 3 buttons, so it isn't difficult to memorize where they are after 2 days of use.. I personally like the buttons off...
Dell's version of froyo does not have alot of the features that the Samsung roms have. There is no vibrate intensity setting, no font changing setting (use font changer from market).
I just got 2.2.2 loaded and that has the option to make a sound when you unlock the streak.
You sacrifice a few options with the streak, but it is rock solid stable and doesn't need any tweaks besides spare parts windows and transition options set to fast. so it is lightening fast.
I think I have found the problem. It looks like the light sensor is bad or a software issue that is causing the sensor not to work. On auto brightness it does nothing. I called Dell and they confirmed that the buttons should light up when the screen is touched. and that it is likely a defective sensor. I am going to return it for a new one. On a positive note, the screen had been running at only 1/4 brightness. Display looks MUCH better now that I have turned up the brightness a bit.
Since release 2 of the N dev preview, I've really been pretty impressed with the stability and features, especially multi-windows. I seem to use that on a daily basis, either referencing 1 window while I do something on another window, or just 1/2 watching some vid while I do something else. The size of the Pixel C seems to work well with the multi windows, I have the feature on my 6P rom but don't use it anywhere as much.
The quick tiles and notifications are also decent. Usually the very 1st thing I do id unlock and root, but I've felt no need to do so. The apps I use have all worked, I know some folks had issues with some.
Also, the OTA install was also excellent, as easy as it gets.
How are you all liking N?
I'm really getting on with it, too. I think the testament to the OS is that it seems a bit more intuitive. Much like you were saying about not rooting, I don't feel the need to with the Pixel C at this point.
I also enjoy the fluidity of the OS in comparison to MM, it just seems smoother.
Does the OTA update from stock 6.0 work?
Does it still wipe all data from the tablet?
thanks

I'm wracking my brain to try and remember if it wiped my data and I just can't remember. Sorry.
Here is what I did; I signed up for the dev beta, then took the upgrade more or less like an OTA from 6.0 and it worked great! No flashing, nothing. Heck I didn't even put in a custom recovery. It took a little to download and install. I just can't remember if it asked me to restore all my apps and I said yes or it was still there.
I'm pretty sure it would say something about deleting all your data, but again I'm just not remembering. If you get it, please come back and let us know.

The beta program wipes data completely. It is like a typical fullvwipe or in HTC terms, a RUU.
I think I didn't have a full wipe when I changed to N.

AFAIK the OTA doesn't wipe your data. Flashing via fastboot wipes. They also started releasing flashable zips beginning with Dev Prev 2, which also don't wipe. Idk if you can just flash that zip over Marshmallow.
as to the OP query, I like it a lot. I'm impressed by the options and, much more so, by the stability.

I needed to revert because mtp file transfer didn't work. Also every time I connected the tablet on adb it was immediately forcefully shutdown and couldn't start until I plugged the cable.
Other than that, I didn't find an option to enable usb tether....but then again I didn't find this option in marshmallow (afterwards)...what the **** google?
Oh and mtp is also extremely unreliable back on marshmallow. I don't know what the **** they did with this tablet. I believe I will jump on the next tablet bandwagon if I happen to see one....
OTA to Android N is non-disruptive. The way back is.
I have many issues with Android N but cannot go back because of the full wipe.
I hoped that I will be able to use non tablet apps in the half screen mode but that does not work. I am loosing sound when disconnecting headphones. Some apps crash. You Tube cannot specify quality setting, public wifi hot spot without Internet connectivity drains battery quickly.
I regret my decision of installing Android N.

There was way too many non compatible apps for my liking with N. Firefox would always crash, widgets wouldn't work with certain apps, I'd get random freezes, the Youtube app seemed jacked kinda, and overall...I thought the tablet seems LESS responsive. I switched back to MM.
Dude, all you have to do is back up all your data to Google (you can enable it in the Backup & Restore) Drive. When you opt out of the Beta it sends you an OTA file for MM. When it uninstalls N and reinstalls MM it literally finds the fact that you reset your tablet back to MM and re-installs everything for you. It worked flawlessly for me last night. Wasn't a pain in the butt in the slightest.
Actually at the end I reverted back to Android. You are right that all apps are automatically reinstalled however they are not configured, and you loose any local data.
I'm running Android N and want to use Smart Lock, but whenever I try setting Smart Lock or a trusted device, location, etc, it says I can't utilize Smart Lock because my device is encrypted. I've never setup encryption, and I can't remove encryption either. I can't even activate OK Google from any screen, and it's all because of the encryption. Is this a mandatory feature of Android N?
Has anyone got OK Google to work on all screens and lockscreen?
Google N is good but this is a preview issue so there's a fair few bugs within, e.g. YouTube crashing, low benchmark scores, dual screen having limited functionality and random error codes when opening apps.
I've reverted to MM and the process was super simple.
I'll wait for the third iteration and see if that irons out these issues, but N is very promising and I feel it'll really help release the potential of this tablet.
I just ordered my tablet and it shipped today. I was wondering if it is worth updating to Android N right away or stick with marshmallow
Stick with mm if u seek stability
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
I'm enjoying it but where is the May stability update?
It worked well for me. Only real problem I had was app compatibility. Use it as a media device, so HBO GO, Hulu, TNT, etc crashing on me led me to revert. Can't wait for N to be finalized and apps to be made compatible with split screen.

"Note: When you don't use your phone for 4 hours, and after you reboot your phone, you'll need to manually unlock it with your PIN, pattern or password"
It's a security feature.

Ok, so here goes:
I use my gear 2 together with my note 4 as a trusted device. You know like every time the gear 2 is close, the device must stay unlocked. But it does not stay unlocked and there is no Bluetooth disconnecting, anything like this. I looked at that. Battery is full, the gear 2 and phone stayed together and there was no setting like disable and enabling of Bluetooth at any stage.
I connect it now and its fine, but after a while (don't know the exact time here ), say after 3 hours of no use, i press the power button and it asks for my pin or fingerprint as if the gear 2 is not near. The gear 2 is still on and there was nothing like disconnecting. As if the phone on its own make sure that it asks the finger print every now and again.
For example, i leave it overnight the next morning first fingerprint then you can use the phone.I hate this. It kind of bugs me if they steal the phone and the range is to big, the device will lock any way. Why lock when he gear 2 it near the phone? Any help please.

Perhaps OP is using a translator, or is from another country, or is young. That should not matter to any of us and we should offer our help regardless of whether he/she includes proper punctuation or not. The Note 4 is problematic all around, but 6.0.1 is a problem for every device that has it. It is the reason I left my Nexus 6P, and my Nexus 6. I have a Xiaomi Mi Max, also on 6.0.1 and it has the same major flaws I experienced on all devices running 6.0.1. The problems I speak of are the WiFi and Data stop working briefly while browsing the web, or downloading something. However, I believe this is an issue related to the security patches related to Qualcomm devices on 6.0.1. It seems like an overall radio problem.
Hi,
I've been using a native android OS for years (nexus phones and the last one Oneplus 3). Recently I bought Xiaomi Mi 9T, thinking it would be similar to Oneplus 7 Pro and Im having a bad experience using it.
I cant understand why they remove useful things that Google developed to make a better user experience.
For exemple:
Notificacions are awful in MIUI.
In lockscreen I cant expand them
When the display is unlock and I got a notificacion I cant expand the notification and read it directly, I have to wait or hide the notificacion (swiping up) and then swipe down to be able to expand it and read it.....
Audio Output
In my old phone I could have different devices connected via bluetooth, for exemple, an earpods, and if I wanted to show something to a friend I could change the output sound, and choose phone speakers, however I cant do it with MUIU, I have to disconnect the device to use the speakers..... WTF
I also dont like to have all apps in the screen, however I solved that with Nova Launcher.
Anyone know how to solve the previous problems? I would love to have Oxygen OS in this phone. It would be perfect. Thanks
Unlock your bootloader and flash any of the custom ROMs available right now! (Paranoid Android beta or Mokee rom(linneage base) there is also a OxygenOS GSI (treble) I wouldn't recommend that but you can give it a shot
Yeah, TWO problems are ruining android. Lol
I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy S7 and I agree with OP. One week using the Mi 9T and the struggle is real. Notifications are really messed up in MIUI. The auto brightness doesn't work right and sometimes when I manually change brightness the slider is not updated accordingly as I increase it. Also, the sound controls are just terrible. It's not, or at least it doesn't feel like, a polished UI/UX.
Haters gonna hate. Now imagine that if you would do any tampering with the OS you would lose the warrantee... BUT Xiaomi is so generous that they even provide a bootloader unlock function for us, unlike Samsung and Apple. They would take away your freedom of development if you would wander off their closed systems, so enjoy flashing and stuff. And I would highly suggest waiting for MIUI 11 it arrives in the coming days. Miui has been the longest player in the android skin game and the first and foremost product of xiaomi.

Unlock after 7days xD, please man, people hate miui cause this soft is ****.
Xiaomi did once questionnaire which soft people like more stock android or miui, most have chosen stock android. Xiaomi deleted this survey

you mean like on Samsung you don't have use stupid accounts and give them your info just to be able to unlock the bootloader? the fact MIUI was one of the first skinned ROMs back in froyo means nothing, it's like saying Chrysler used to make great cars 40 years ago and therefore they MUST be considered great today, no matter the fact they are pure ****e.
i sell my mi9t and i order OP7Pro, and i hope i will not regret.
first if you unlock bootloader, and to root and. magisk, you have to partitions, so anytime you want something with twrp you have to do everything from begin, and there is also one problem with OP7Pro were phone shut down by himself, power button doesnt help, just if you boot in fastboot mode power on and vol+ in same time helps.
so dont know if OP is really such good user experience, same as stock android, never have seen such poor os as stock android.
Everything on my Mi 9T works well except notifications. Unlike other people I get a lot of it. On every notification the screen turns on even in silent mode. And I can't seem to turn off group notifications for whatsapp, I turn them off and after 2 minutes they turn back on again. Other than this the phone is great.
So the only problem I have with notifications is that they are not arriving while the phone is in deep sleep mode, and that's because miui kills internet connection - I get that they are trying to save battery that way but it just doesn't make sense to me to not be able to receive notifications while your phone is sitting idle. From what I've seen miui 9 and below had an option in settings>battery&performance to disable sleep mode - is there any way to do that on miui 10?

In developer options, there is an option all the way down, "MIUI optimization" something like that that is on by default. You can turn that off.
You can also go to app settings and turn off battery optimization for the apps you care about like instant messaging, mail etc.

hello and thank you for taking the time to read my first post. been having an issue with my new phone and i havent the faintest idea on how to diagnose or fix my problem. i am in no ways a developer or knowledgeable in programming what so ever, but i have delved in "script kiddie" roots and customs roms with my older phones trying to breathe new life into those devices as an excuse to not have to buy an older phone, but eventually my samsung note 5 kicked the bucket and wasnt able to keep up with the amount of apps and multitasking i do for work. a friend of mine recommended that i buy a one plus 6t as its not only one of the latest phones (okay not the latest, but still fairly new) , but it was also cheap as hell on ebay for about 250$ for a used one with some slight burn-in in the display (the ghost image suggests this unit was a display model, but its a handy phone and i dont care at all).
Anyways, long story short; friend is a big tech guy and recommend that id root the phone and install a custom ROM (A.K.A paranoid OS) for greater usability and security. since he was way more knowledgeable with this phone than i was in the 2-3 days of owning it; i decided to let him go ahead and do it for me.
the phone runs amazing, and ive used it for work for a few weeks now and it has lived up to my expectations and more... except for 2 issues.
the main issue that this thread is focused on is android auto. on my friends phone, it works great! hooks up and connects every time he plugs in the cable, audio smooth, gps and other features i never knew existed with my old phone. my 6t on the other hand, works when it wants to.
it never connects to the radio and tells me that it cant connect through notifications. after some experimenting, i found out that it does connect; you just have to go to "USB Preferences" in the phone, plug the phone in, see the options light up under ""usb controlled by"", then tap on a different option (even though it wont switch) and tap it again multiple times until the phone connects.
once it does connect, it works great. until you start listening to music. the music cuts out every now and then. sometimes for 1 second, 3 seconds, or 30 seconds. its very random. other stuff that happens is that the UI on the radio flickers constantly or disappears and the resolution looks cut off or looks wonky on different sides of the radio. sometimes its one or the other. i told my friend about it, and he tried clearing caches, force stopping the app, even completely removing the google play service plugin and reinstalling it, but still nothing. after he tried it, i had phone hooked up to the radio for work, it worked fine for a few hours until everything froze and my phone went completely black and a bunch of colorful letters on my screen pop up that say "CRASH DUMP". phone reboots just fine and works fine but the issues before the crash still happen.
the second issue is that my fingerprint sensor detects fingers but cant read anything, but thats the least of my concerns and i dont care if it doesnt work.
my friend has no idea what else to do and i am kind of disappointment but i still want this to work. although i have no idea where to start or what to do.
if your willing to help an inexperienced dude get his phone working, that would be greatly appreciated. other than that, i hope you have a good day
EDIT:: just a quick add on to say that ive tried different USB-c cables and this radio is notn aftermarket. im using stock radio on my 2019 nissan altima

I totally agree flash the stock Rom
OOS is amazing. Rooting is easy if you decide you need it.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6010 using Tapatalk
Does your friend have the the same phone? It is very common that custom ROM works flawlessly on one model but full of issues on the other, even they are from same manufacturer. The stability of a custom ROM depends on how many active user use the rom. Most of one plus users used oxygen. So not so many people could give you answer.
BTW, I would never advise someone to use custom ROM if they don't know how to flash by themselves.
