thank you for clarifying, I was afraid of someone taking it too literal but failed to realized that, presumably, buying the software consequently requires our is otherwise packaged with the hardware and vice versa. At the time of the original post (3 months ago), for some reason that escapes me now, I had speculated that one could buy the software on its own and use another form of JTAG device. But based on your statement, I wouldve been greatly mistaken. On either car, thank you for your reply.

You've been sold a demo phone, which are usually stolen (from stores).
What I've said here, applies to you too.
Read the forum sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982626
I know the forum sticky, and I agree with it. That's why I also bolded my response on that.
Sometimes you can't return the phone. There's no reason to punish the buyer, in that case and it's meant to help.
[Q] New N900 has bad signal and "your device has been modified" update error
Hello forum,
I am in the UK using a Virgin sim and my girlfriend bought this phone new in china and flew it over to me. At the moment the signal is really bad wherever I go (the same SIM card in my old galaxy nexus had great signal in all these places) so I was wondering if there was any way to make the signal better?
Also I tried to do an update through the settings menu hoping this would sort out the signal problem and it is giving me the "your device has been modified. no updates available for this device." error even though the phone is new.
the information about the device is as follows:
when I type *#1234# I get:
AP: N900ZSUBMI5
CP:N900XXUBMI2
CSC:N900OZSBMI2
In my "about device" within settings, the following is given:
Model number: SM-N900
Android version: 4.3
Baseband version: N900XXUBMI2
Kernel version: 3.4.39-1625296
[email protected]#1
Wed Sep 11 19:49:31 KST 2013
Build number: JSS15J.N900ZSUBMI5
SELinux status: Enforcing
If I reboot to recover it opens:
CWM-based Recovery v6.0.4.5
Compiled by Xiaolu(20131121)
When I try to check knox I cant see it (I go into odin mode and the top left just says the following):
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
(I now understand the N900 doesn't have knox)
Thanks for looking, any feedback at all would be much appreciated :good:

Well it looks great. At least I can be sure that your phone shouldn't be a fake. It is of Hong Kong or Taiwan origin, Exynos, running 4.3 on N900ZSUBMI5.
You have CWM Recovery, Xiaolu's port of it. Hence that device was probably rooted prior to getting it handed over to your girlfriend. KNOX is only present on the MJ and onward firmwares, and you happen to be on an MI firmware so you don't have it activated yet.
Check the section for Network/Bearer and Wireless Connectivity on this link: http://www.samsung.com/levant/consumer/mobile-phones/mobile-phones/galaxy-note/SM-N9000ZKEXSG-spec
Match it up with your country's network specifications. There's a reason why these phones don't get sold worldwide, as they aren't all compatible with every region. Also remember to set correct APN values for your country.

okay thanks for your reply, I believe the frequencies virgin use are 1800MHz and 2100MHz which can both be used with this phone. The APN settings were downloaded automatically when the phone was first booted and I also manually checked them and they are correct.

What is your network switch options in Settings?
Do you have it to HSPA/GSM (auto connect) set? [Sorry if it's not exactly the same, I don't have the N900 model]
My friend pointed this out to me just before I saw your message, the options available are only wcdma/gsm hspa isn't an option. Im guessing from my limited knowledge that this is the problem, what is it I would need to do to fix this? thanks again.

Actually, I asked my friend who has the N900, he's reporting the same as you. So no problem in that.
There must be something else that can be isolated to find what's going on. You can try to upgrade the phone to the latest modem by flashing the latest 4.4.2 ROM.
Okay, what would be the best way to flash the latest ROM? Would this be a custom ROM or is there a way to get the official one? Thanks again.
Edit: I have now tried putting Dr Ketans rom on it, telling it to use the ROMs modem, and that still didnt fix the problem. I have also tried flashing some other modems from the GSM modems collection thread but the problems persist. The symptoms are as follows:
Frequently looses signal
only ever shows the E or G symbol for mobile internet connection (whereas on my other phone with the same sim it instantly gets full signal and shows H+ or 3G)
the phone has also never been able to lock onto a GPS location it only ever shows searching for GPS in the notifications bar.
So I bought a supposed "developer edition" of the Note 3 and other than the words behind the battery which state the phone is a "developer device", I am wondering how you can tell a dev editon from a non-dev edition? Model: SM-N900V, SKU: SMN900VZKE. It had the unlocked lock icon with "Custom" below it on the initial splash screen when you first power it on, but I'm pretty sure that just means it's rooted.
Second question: There are several Note 3 models out there, and all the ROMs I've seen seem to be specific to one particular model. From what I gathered from Samsung's website, the V in N900V just means it's a Verizon phone. Does that mean I should be looking for ROMs for the N900, as those are the ones which should work on my phone?

Yeah, that's what is listed under PDA Version.
Baseband version says N900VVRUBMJE
Thanks for the info

You might want to remove the IEMI number from your post - never wise to make it public.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524572 probably the baseband was updated with the zip file. There is a Odin restore file for dev edition. That would probably update pda to mje
It's real. All they have is developer edition under battery nothing else. Ask me how I know. I have one...

Hello,
I am new here but I have been reading ALOT. I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900P off ebay and it came rooted with Kitkat 4.4.2 installed. Although it works fine in Canada in general, it's been causing me a TON of headaches. The biggest problem is roaming...I have the "you have lost data connectivity because you left your home network with data roaming turned off" error, which no one seems to have a solution for online. Sim cards in the US didn't work at all but my Canadian one is fine and no issues in Central America, so it is a good travelling phone in general. There are a ton of Chinese characters that populate the phone.
So I'm wondering what the best step would be for flashing a new ROM? How do I do a ROM backup on a phone that is already rooted? Is it safe to install recovery onto the phone? Is there some way to tell if one is already installed? Basically I would like to flash one of the custom Lollipop or Marshmallow ROMs, but above all I need to fix the roaming issue ASAP.
Phone info provides the following:
Phone Model: SM-G900P
Device Type: klte
Product Name: klte
Country of origin: not listed
Original CSC Code: CHN
Firmwares CSC Code: <root required>
Active CSC Code: CHN / TGY
CSC Country: USA/CN
Bootloader/PDA/CSC/BASEBAND version: G900PVPU1AND2
Root Existance: Yes
Android Version: 4.4.2
Any help on some steps to backing up/flashing and upgrading to Lollipop would be fantastic. The tricky part is understanding what has been done to the phone and what I can do to not screw it up lol.
Cheers!

It says SM-G900P. I believe it is this model, as the seller advertised it as this. He was selling them new and explained that they had been rooted and unlocked and should work in any country.
Thanks in advance for any help, it's much appreciated!
