I was restoring my Kindle Fire HD 7 to stock so I could send it in for a replacement. As I was about to factory reset and send it back, my Kindle updated to 7.3.1!
Anyone know what's in this update?
I blanked out some info like the serial number and my name in the screenshot (if you are wondering what those boxes are)
You are the first to mention it on here.
This is a Kinology HD using XDA Premium
Doesn't appear so
According to Amazon's "Kindle Software Update" page, there is no indication that 7.3.1 has been released.
Have a look -> http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_left_sib?ie=UTF8&nodeId=201016350
My thoughts are something has gone wrong, you managed to do that accidentally, or you purposely did it (NOT blaming you just an option that I have to keep in mind, it could've been a joke and that's your sense of humor and that's fine, you do what you want).
I SERIOUSLY doubt that Amazon has yet to update the page before sending out another update. If someone else has this as well and proves it then we can all be a tad more sure that this is legitimate.
EDIT: Amazon has updated their software update page to 7.3.1, definitely confirming its existence.
Yeah I was confused as well when I couldn't find anything on the Amazon site. No I am not pulling anyone's leg either lol
I double checked my 'old' HD7 (that I am about to ship off to Amazon) and it still says 7.3.1..
This auto update happened on my old device a couple of minutes after I did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235403
My replacement device is at 7.3.0 (auto-updated from 7.2.1). Since 7.3.1 doesn't show up on the replacement, I've got to believe that something went wrong when I flashed 7.2.3 to my old device.
This don't make any sense at all :silly:
Edit
Another person has mentioned getting the 7.3.1 update on the Amazon UK forums here
I also had a chat with Amazon customer service (I love these guys ).
They confirmed that
it is a limited update that is being pushed out incrementally.

Also the lady was kind enough to shoot me a follow up email if she found anything more on it and she got this:
I bet you didn't expect to hear from me so soon. I had a fit of giggles when I finally got hold of the "article" about the update. Basically, all it said was when everybody has it, we'll give you more details.
And that is all she wrote....

kindle fire hd 7.3.1 update
Hi I am new to the site and relatively new to the kindle fire hd. I have just had (about 15 hrs ago) the 7.3.1 update and have experienced a few problems since. I had root access and google play working no probs. But did not stop the kindle from updating doh! Since the 7.3.1 update I have carried out the whole rooting process as before ( or at least I think I have) and everything went smoothly and root checker claims I have root access. I then reinstalled the necessary files for play store. But google play store will not run. ( says google store has stopped).
I have also had problems installing apps sourced elsewhere since.
I have concluded that this 'limited update' has tightened up security. Or have I simply messed up the rooting process.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thank you
Go into the development section and learn to install 2nd bootloader its made my kindle so much better plus i now use kinology rom fixes so many problems i had with original kindle os. It will get rid of non working play store

thanks for the heads up
Been on the phone with amazon 2 times today...
7.3.1 just started rolling out to a select customer base, its supposed to fix some of the bugs in 7.3, namely battery issues. If you hit the sync button on your kindle and leave it in sleep mode for a bit, it will auto-update to 7.3.1.
Just use the root any android device. Works every time.

Update to 7.3.1 causing problems Unrooted
The update on my stock unrooted Kindle Fire HD is causing many of my apps to stop working. Twitter, Officesuite, Ebay, ES File Explorer, Ymail, ect. I tried rebooting and all I get is messages that apps stopped working and eventually a blank screen with the home menu which doesn't respond.
confirmation from Amazon has update 7.3.1 http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_navbox_200529680_kindlelhd?nodeId=201016350

Update 7.3.1 very good ,only to lose 1 % battery overnight is too good
How do I root on 7.3.1 ?
I also have version 7.3.1. I used to be rooted when I was on 7.2.3, but now I am not rooted. My device's battery drains super fast. And I constantly have an error in my notifications that says:
"Install/Update/Enable Google PlayServices"

Hi All,
My 7" fire hd has just upgraded to 7.3.1, lost the root option but just re-rooted using binaryv18 and it worked a treat.

Great news!
Did you feel any improvements?
I am, SOOOOOOOOOOOO, glad they fixed the battery drain issue. It now stays charged over night.
AT&T force pushed this update to my phone yesterday. Not sure what it does yet, when I postponed it, it claimed performance updates. Really hope it wasn't a fix for the rumored exploit of TeamYemen (see here and the following few pages). I'm going to try and re-flash N915AUCU2COI2 later to see if they updated the bootloader with this.
I did revert back, it appears the bootloader was unaffected. So, I guess I'll update again.

For those who'd like proof in case it hasn't hit your device yet:
http://www.att.com/devicehowto/tuto...426661?make=Samsung&model=GalaxyNoteEdgeN915A
For the "performance enhancements", did they fix anything? Fixed the edge panel notification?
I have noticed that a problem seems to have stopped that happened every so often, where I'd unlock the phone, start using an app, but the phone would re-lock itself immediately, then I'd have to wait for it to stop doing something before I could unlock again and use it.
They're pushing another one, I don't know if it's to block a root exploit (as one for the verizon note 4 was recently found), or if it's Marshmallow, anybody know what this new one is?
Whereeeee isssssss Marshmallowwwwwww atttttttt????????

Receiving this update now, its automatic and I can't seem to stop it easily.
I'll report what I find. I unrooted and went default yesterday, on retail 6.0.1. Gonna sell my note and get Google Fi soon.

Can you try to downgrade after you update and see if it'll downgrade? Thanks. Its ok if you're not interested in all that hassle.

Nothing visible has changed, no new apps. No new settings. June 1st security patch which may be different. I'll maybe try to downgrade tomorrow.

I already checked it. Downgrade safe.
I haven't found a tutorial on downgrading to 5.1.1 from 6.0.1. Is there a safe way to do it?

Not sure what you mean by "safe" but typically you just use Odin to flash full stock 5.1.1, do a factory reset in stock recovery afterwards and you're done.

I'm guessing its just a June security patch.
I'm impressed Verizon is actually trying to keep up with the security updates on this device. BUT, i dont think they have a choice because this device is probably more used then the Note5 .
Anyone tried this update while being rooted?

Seems to have fixed some lag, heat , and battery drain issues I was having. Auto brightness is still borked. Still have to turn the brightness down manually in a dark room, and up to max outside.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews of Google Fi. Which phone are you going to go with? I've thought about replacing my Note 4 DE with the Moto X Pure when they run it on sale again (was $319 a few days ago). But the Droid Z Force also looks nice.
Made my battery worse! A little less lag though....so got that goin for me!!! Lol

Not really the place to discuss it so I'll keep it brief.
My girlfriend has a Nexus 5X. The phone is amazing, updates are quick and common. It operates perfectly on marshmallow with no noticeable issues. We live in bum**** and she still gets service wifi calling and texting is fine, and no contracts. We pay about 42 a month for hers with insurance.
Well one thing I noticed (not sure if it was this update or the last one) is that when you pick an application to use (like browser) it becomes the default. With the old OS it would ask you to use just once or make it the default. Arrgggg I prefer to pick the application as needed and not make it the actual default.

The MM update made this change to default app handling. I liked the old way too. Now if I want to change the default app I have to remember which app was set as default before I can make the change. Sometimes remembering which app was set as default isn't easy to do.
Deleted. Think was in wrong thread.
Been a long time sense I've posted anything in this forum.
I just went back to the Note 4 and did the MM update and have noticed a heavy draw on the battery compared to LP. Am wondering if letting it did cycle through a few time might correct the battery drain. Was on an iPhone for awhile, but for personal reasons came back android. Has anybody tried that yet. Have been temped to hard reset and start fresh to see if it fixes it.
This update has increased the battery draw on mine and it is running HOT! Need help.
Is anyone having trouble getting this OTA? I had 1-4 available right away, but I've been checking for an update since yesterday and nothing.

Don't side load from what I read it hasn't come for the 6p yet because of some issues that are being worked out. I haven't checked to see if they pulled the images but I would just wait for the OTA. I also read that dp5 is really laggy on the Nexus 6

I don't remember what site it was it was 4am and I was just having coffee and It came up in my Google now news feed. The post wasn't about that I read it in the comment section after the post. Also I see some people on here who did sidload it and are having problems with recovery and some apps. So personally I am going to wait till Google fixes it.
maybe they are actually trying to fix the slow-motion bug that has existed since release on 6.0. after a day or two, slow motion records very choppy. the small group of people who actually notice the bug think it will never get fixed. oh well....

I sideloaded DP5 to my 6P on Monday, and I can confirm that it's borderline disastrous. It's way slower and jankier than the last couple of preview milestones, and there's general bugginess that I didn't see in the last two builds. Additionally, I've had way more crashes than I experienced on DP3 and DP4, both of which were mostly stable. I hope the OTA delay means they are working out a few kinks, because I would hate for this to be what Google considers "near final" software.
Thanks for the heads up.

I'm sure that is what the delay is. I was thinking it was a OTA issue but then I saw your post a a few others. This is the first android phone I have ever owned that I didn't root right out of the box. I'm too tired to do all the flashing and deal with the bugs and all that. I didn't even opt in to the dev preview till dp3. With that said all my previous experience has taught me to research before I update or install new software and wait till it is mostly bug free. This phone just works. I won't have to root it till Google stops supporting it and I have to go with cyanogenmod

Could you do us a favor and let us know if/when the OTA pops up on your device? It would be nice to compare build numbers to see if Google is preparing an updated build for release.

Hey guys, I got mine around noon in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to that, I was experiencing the same issues you guys were in that my OTA was not showing up. Happy updating!
Me too I got mine at 12:30 pm in new York. It now says android 7.0 instead of Android n npd90g is the build number. I just finished with work so I have to test it out but so far it seems to be really good and snappy. And yes they fixed the toggle switches back to what they should be.
I just checked and OTA was ready to download. Installing dp5 now.
Downloaded and running....
Seems faster?

Yes it wiped my data but I was beyond frustrated with the oreo beta and just wanted the phone back to the way it was the day I bought it. All seems well back on 7.0. I did unenroll from the beta on the samsung+ app prior to flashing back to stock with smart switch and as soon as it booted back into the stock firmware, I was prompted to download the oreo beta. Highly annoying but found an app that allows you to block software update notifications. You would think samsung would take a few notes from google and provide an ota rollback to get back to stock but they didn't. Luckily smart switch was the easiest software I ever used to restore a phone. Literally plug in and just wait.

OK I used the cheater app to get Samsung + to give me the Beta on my unlocked S8. There is not a dis-enroll option in Samsung + that I can see (because I used the cheater app perhaps?) when I was on the Beta or now that I'm back on 7.0. I did use Smart Switch to downgrade. So as soon as I log in after downgrading, the Beta automatically downloads and best you can do is say install later which is says it will do at night. I factory reset thinking the upgrade it tied to my Samsung account but no, I sign in with a different Google ID and a different Samsung ID but still the Beta downloads. How and the hell do I get this to stop? All I can think of is see if I can disable updates with BK. This crazy.

Well it really looks no different, no magic feature that I noticed except duel messenger if you use that. I will offer the advice that if it's not offically offered to you via Samsung + where you will be able to dis-enroll, stay away. I forced it with the app being pushed here on XDA and now I can't keep it off unless I want to disable system update with BK. Just spent an hour on the phone with Samsung application support, they remoted into my phone then escalated the ticket for a callback. RutRow, wish there was a cheater app to dis-enroll in the beta.
So I took the plunge, even installed it without wiping and no issues at all. Not even a single crash or anything

The thing I couldn't take is when long scrolling, like a webpage where it take multiple finger swipes to get to the bottom or an app like Flibboard where you continue to scroll, the app will just close and your kicked back to the desktop.
Can you tell me how the Beta sign-up goes thru the app, Sammy support keep asking me what steps I did to sign up for the Beta. like they are wise to people forcing it. She asked a few times if I filled out a form. Thanks

You should tell them exactly how you cheated the system to get Oreo. Otherwise, you are just delaying the trouble shooting, when they are looking at the wrong end due to your lies.
