see....this is a very common asked question,
if you root your phone by propc method Link, it will give you a gingerbread theme.
but if you root your phone directly, then you will have same appearance, only there will be a Super User Permission app.
and you asked about gingerbread ROM, you wont get it now.
bcoz there is no custom ROM for it. developers are working hard to get it. so you need to wait for some time.
rooting is absolutely safe if you follow each step carefully.
i will recommend you to use this guide. Link
hope you succeed!
Hi, my phone now is working and all ( the is it bricked post) Thanks guys
Here is the new problem...I would like to go to 2.2.1 ( the passimg.zip is 2.2) is there a way to update without unlocking bootloader.
I tried Androot and superoneclick....Androot gives me the Fugu message and SuperOneClick says its Rooted...but when I go to rom manager or other apps that need superuser...
I get this message : An error occured while attemting to run privileged commands!
So basically Root isn't working.
Also, when trying to install Cyan cm6...Rom manager reboots...but I get the Triangle with the exclamation point with the green man next to it...
Is it still possible to have my cake and eat it? ( locked phone, with root access so I can install modded roms)
Again...can someone help me with this
Thanks!
You didn't have to make a duplicate post. I already answered one of your questions in the other thread.
Dont make another post next time...
I rooted FRG83D with superoneclick root, But if its not working for ya you will have to unlock the bootloader via fastboot. Then push a custom recovery. With the recovery you can install the su binaries.
Manual root:

Ok i'll only answer here now for this question:
I don't want to loose my warranty. Hence the softroot way.
I thought of something dunno if its possible:
is there a stock FRG83 image like the FRG33 I just installed....maybe 2.2.1 will be compatible with androot or superoneclick
Thanks
You need to do a few things before you go any further. There are key steps you are leaving out that are just a recipe for disaster. I'll detail them below, in the specific order you should follow them. There shall be no deviation from this list.
1 - Put your phone down. Seriously, stop messing with it. Just quit.
2 - Read the Wiki that you've been linked to, in both threads, several times.
2a - Now that you've read the Wiki, really read the Wiki. Yeah, you skimmed it the first time, I know you did.
2b - Now go read it again. I'm sure you'll notice something new this time.
2c - Now go read the links in the Wiki. Explore those threads.
2d - Those threads that the Wiki links to? They have links in them. Go read those.
3 - Rinse and repeat all steps from 2a to 2d for, oh, about 4 days. During this time you are allowed:
To post general chit chat on the forum. No technical stuff, no help threads, no questions. Just read. If you have questions, you need to read some more.
No more than 3 app installs per day, from the market. Thou shalt not download and install any APKs from any source that is not the Android Market.
To tweak settings on your phone, provided those settings are all done via the touchscreen on your phone. You shall forget the acronym "ADB".
Once you've done that, you'll root your phone in no time, and you won't be worried that you've bricked it. Then, and only then, can you start asking questions.
Why? Because all of your questions right now are answered. You're jumping the gun, and it's obvious you haven't done much research at all. Seriously, go read.
I hate to be mean, but if you want to understand stuff, you need to try and understand it on your own first. You're here looking for solutions (that are already spelled out) to problems that you created (because you didn't read anything). Quit looking for the easy way out. If you want to enjoy your phone and the features of what you're trying to accomplish...put some work in yourself, and stop expecting everyone else to fix everything and spell it out. People here are more than happy to help, but you gotta start helping yourself.

Thanks, mate. Didn't mean to quote the guy above me, just noticed I did that. Fixed it.
I'm amazed at the patience some folks have. Maybe it was my rough 3 day weekend that's left me a bit short... Appreciate the thanks, all the same.
Ok, I do go a bit fast.
I'll read...it just that I tried the cm7 mod ( i know its experimental) and the phone
would'nt boot.
With the help of the great people on the board, I got my phone working again but on FRG33 (2.2)
My last question was if it was possible ( or someone knows of because Ive checked the net) to root without unlocking ( androot and superoneclick that i know of) if I have FRG33 ( Because Ive been getting permission errors)
Finally, I wanted to know if a FRG83 stock image was available so that I could recover to it without unlocking bootloader. (or any other stock that lets me root without unlock)
I'll unlock the phone as a last option...I'm sorry...And if anyone is pissed at my posts ...well sorry I just taught some of you experts could help.

See? Looking for the easy way out again.
It's not about anyone being pissed or short on patience. Look at how frustrated you are with the situation. You're frustrated. Why? Cause you did it wrong. Why? Cause you didn't read enough first. Even after several suggestions, you still want it done, with help, right now, or you'll sulk about someone pissed and how no one held your hand through it.
Is it possible to do what you want? Absolutely! Pretty easy, too. But if you read and help yourself, you'll better understand how to update in the future, as well as how to root the future update. Or, you'll learn how to root what you have, and flash a pre-rooted stock ROM (yes, those are here as well).
So call me an ass, cool. You did in your mind, that's fine. But really, I'm trying to let you know what will help you the most, and that's having a better understanding of how to prevent a boot loop in the future, or at least how to fix it if it happens. Best of luck, man.

Here's the deal.
I did a one click root without unlocking the bootloader. Then I installed rom manager and flashed clockwork recovery. Then I did a backup ( both done in rom manager) then I went back into rom manager and installed cyanogenmod 7 and my nexus is now haxored gingerbread. Make sure you do a full wipe before flashing new roms and it'll always work.
I didn't update my radio, my hboot or anything like that. And it all just works and is dead simple. I would suggest trying z4root or universal androot and then downloading rom manager from the market.
How you managed to **** up something so simple is pretty funny dude.
I'm using an at&t band n1 with an smiled. Not the one with super LCD. I heard a rumor that the super LCD n1s have problems with certain mods. You might want to figure out what type of screen you have too.
The cyanogenmod wiki at cyanogenmod.com might help you too.

OP, you have to learn the hard way. Stop using "newbie" as an excuse.
I was also a "newbie" when I first got my Nexus One in February. Everything about android was new and alien to me. It actually took me a couple of months of lurking in xda and reading up on tutorials before I took the plunge to rooting my phone. And I did not bother anyone on that. I made sure I understood the steps and triple checked every move I made in following instructions even though I did not understand them.
I also was worried about warranty and actually did the manual way of rooting my phone without unlocking the bootloader using some method that involved cutting a piece of plastic from my battery. That was nerve wrecking and no where as simple as the superoneclick thingy you have now. Yet I survived and I did it on my own.
I must admit that you have to be a little bit confident in using computers and have some basic knowledge of typing commands in cmd. But everyone has to start from somewhere.
Seriously if it's too much trouble or too complicated, maybe staying stock or going Iphone is a more comfortable alternative.
I'm actually pretty good with computers...
Also, I have bricked 4 phones (the provider took them back) fooling around...
I could brought this one back ( they didnt check). But I want to learn...I'm pretty impulsif...Anyway so far
With FRG33 z4root works (read thanks)
Now I trying to flash clockwork...( when I download cyan 6 +google apps) it reboots but I get the triangle thingy...I click power volume up ( read that thanks) I get a blue menu...I kinda scared to click an option so I rebooted...I'm trying to use rom manager for updates because its really simple ...anyway
Thats it for tonight All of you guys are nice dudes and I'll learn and will try to help im my own way...I know I'm a newbie that likes short cuts (hell I read all day at my day job...lol) This is fun ( playing with male toys)
Thanks guys!
I have been trying to make sure I take all the correct steps before attempting a root. Some of the software references in the forum have me confused. If someone could help me with these I would very much appreciate it.

Hey bro don't you use the backup feature on HC? I format and re-install at least a few times a week, and google reinstalls all my apps in about ten minutes tops.
Nothing personal, I just don't get some peoples aversion to doing a proper wipe and format between installs. It's not like you lose any of your photos, music, or videos even when following the instructions in the OP.

1) What is the difference between the android market and the google "app store" that I keep seeing people refer too?
a) what is the reference to "HC" in this quote?
- I have purchased apps from the android market that I would like to keep. I followed some references in other threads and got the Titanium Backup (free version) in hopes that I can backup the entire tablet. Is this what I would use to keep my apps/data and bring it back to the tablet after rooting?
2) I also got the Acer Recovery app. This looks as though it is used to bring the tablet back to stock form. Is that correct?
3) Is the term "root" in reference to gaining root permissions/access to the tablet, and nothing else? (I was under the impression that it was the installation of a ROM)
4) I have 3.2.1 on my tablet. It looks as though at this point in time, the only way I can root is to bring it back to at least 3.2 ot less (reference to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227&page=11)
5) Any tips on what I should download before the root so that I can keep a backup of the original setup and all of the apps I have purchased?
Thank you for anything you can give.

Ryan,
HC=Honeycomb (the version of Android that is currently on your tab).
No difference, in the name for market, some people just use a different term.
2. No it doesn't. It will install CWM which will make a backup of your current ROM which you can flash to go back to original.
3. Root allows you to install CWM which will in turn allow you to flash custom ROMs.
4. Yes you will need to downgrade first, make certain you have everything you need already downloaded and on your external SD card.
5. Read, READ, READ, READ, take notes, and follow instructions to the letter. We certainly don't need another "help, I bricked my tab" thread lol
1) No difference, Google Market/App Store yada yada yada.
a) HC = Honey Comb, it is Googles internal name for their OS from versions 3.x
- If you go to Settings - Privacy, put a check in the boxes for "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore". Doing this alone has been enough for Google to automatically re-install about 99% of my apps.
2) Acer Recovery makes it easier to install the various Recovery images. It does not alone help you get back to "bone stock", but it at least will re-install the stock Recovery image if and when you're ready to go back to the stock ROM.
3) Root is getting root access to the device, which is generally needed to install custom ROMs, so I could see the confusion.
4) Almost right, you'll need to bring it back to 3.0.1 first. Be sure to have already downloaded and installed at least Acer Recovery and IconiaRoot before downgrading, as the Market is flakey as heck when you downgrade to 3.0.1. I followed method 2 in that thread and had 0 issues.
5) Not needed, see my info after 1,a).

In reference to your answers:
#3 - Am I correct in saying that I can get root access without applying a new ROM?
#4 - I have an SD card, and it looks as though with the downloads and what not, the tablet is not even using it.
How (I am sure to get a "use search" answer with someone...) do I force the tablet to download these things I need to the SD card?
Do I need an additional SD card to be used for this process only?
I see that you are working on a version of your ROM for 3.2.1, shall I just wait to avoid problems?
#5 - I have been trying to read as many "brick" threads as I can in order to avoid them.

I did find the IconiaRoot thread by Thor. It looks as though this is the reason for bringing the version back to 3.0.1, true? Not to many usable answers to the questions asked in that thread, that are answered by the OP. I will try and search for people using it and starting their own thread.
This looks to be a Windows piece of software, maybe I can get it to run on my virtual box... or wine... . I guess I could try it on my work machine.
IconiaRoot is the app to actually use the exploit found to root the device and give you root access. Now, the reason for going to 3.0.1 is because the exploit was fixed by Acer is version 3.2. So, the downgrade is needed first so that the exploit is available to root your device.
OMG..
Your worse then most of my girl friends.. ITS ALL QUITE SIMPLE AND EASY
if you are on STOCK FROM ACER.. 3.2 OR ABOVE . you must DOWNGRADE TO GET ROOT..
The best way to do this to date seems to be in the past by Jimmy Dean.. there are links to his threads in nearly every recent bricked or threads similar to yours..
im guessing if you have looked at all the threads about being bricked and still do not understand how to do it..or scared to try .
DO NOT ATTEMPT
MAYBE you should ask a dev if you can send your tablet to them in the mail and them flash it for you.. Would be my best sugestion.. Everyone that flashes anything on there tablet or any ROM BASED Device takes the risk of bricking.. IF you have read other bricking related threads you will see people complain they fallowed all instructions and still ended up bricked.. Maybe to falt of there own they missed or maybe just luck of the Flash..
Good Luck and look for Jimmy Deans post in the d/load he gives a very detailed instructions with step by step pictures. as some of the others do as well..

All im saying is that if you have read all the threads and post about bricked devices bad flashing stories and the threads on how to do it correctly.. That there is nothing more anyone can do or say to you about this.. Only other option is for someone to do it for you.. I did not mean to offend you in any way.
Its kinda unclear what you expected to get out of starting a thread stating that you read everything good and bad.. about flashing this tablet.. maybe the solution is to go to android sdk site and get better acquainted with the OS on a more personal level.. if you are still not understanding the process .
With that all said..

OK, erica_renee, I need to come back and give a real apology. I am having a hard day at work today and was looking toward learning a new process on my latest toy to give me a little relaxation. I just had a customer blaming my additions to the software as the cause of their problems. Not sure if you code for a living, but that is not a fun conversation.
Sorry if I was mean, I just want to learn and not be treated like an idiot. I just want to be as educated as possible before I make a move. I see to many people getting educated because they broke something.
Its all fine
I do understand what you mean..
NOPE im not in software development in anyway. I did back in the 80s own a local computer business so i know how customers can be.. As far as my past being mean and aggressive.. YES i think it was ,better to have someone dislike me then brick there device.. I have leaned alot about android thru the official android web development site.. Its alot of long winded boring reading.
all is kewl with me. I dont take this stuff personal.People including myself sometimes can become to agressive on forums. as its not really a face to face interaction..

Ok, just to be sure. This is on the first line milkman and thanks for being ironic. As I wrote, some of us are new to android, and tried to study, but we need some things to be clear to us. "Ok, after messing around with 3.2 I decided to fix the rooting issues without downgrading"
I am on 3.2.1. So I need to downgrade it to 3.2?
Why wouldnt I downgrade to 3.0? Isnt rooting easier? What problems could I face?
Yes, you do downgrade to 3.0
Its extremely unstable everything force closes, so obtain root, flash cwm and get OFF stock rooted 3.0 quickly as you can
Stock rooted 3.2.1 is (one of) the best bets for ROMs for our tab right now. Flash that and then do some research into additional ROMs, if you want to.

Well, did anybody bother to download and read the pdf or word doc file in the attached link above? Because it sounds like you didn't. I don't have 3.2.1 as I have a 501, so I have no need to perform this, but the doc even has pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph explaining each step with warnings and notes in red.
After the root is done, he even has a tool to install busybox. (you may want to install the superuser app first I believe he says)
I really don't know how much simpler it could be.
I suggest, if you have a question about the root app, as I stated previously above, you contact TimmyDean on his thread about any confusion you may possibly have.
If you are unfamiliar with certain terminology used, AndroidCentral has a good Android dictionary.
Honestly tho, it sound like you all didn't bother to download and read the doc or pdf.
You are 100% right. I read everything except that one you said. Just finished flashing. VERY EASY, and GOD BLESS YOU my friend.
Didnt understand the backdoor tools OTA and busybox. My final question is, now that I have finished flashing (first step) am I rooted or do I have to complete the other steps?
What did you flash? Back to stock?

Yeah Yeah Yeah,,, act first, read instructions later
From what I understand, the backdoor tools will keep you from getting OTA updates. Maybe I'm wrong, but I really wasn't interested in that part. If you ever recieve notice from Acer, DO NOT install it. Usually, Acer likes to ship new bootloaders with their updates, just to mess with us "rooters".
Go to the Market, and get Superuser app and let it install.
I believe at this point, you have to run Install the busybox Tools (busybox folder), as I believe it gives you the option to install Busybox and Superuser tools. (not sure what exactly are the superuser tools, but he seems to think it's necessary, as when you run the app, it tell you to have superuser installed first)
And I think that's all you need. Then select Reboot the system.
The easiest way to check if you have superuser access, is to download an app that requires it.

Oh, 1 more thing. I don't think TimmyDeans app installs CWM recovery. He didn't specify this. So you may want to post a note or read his threads as somebody else may have asked the same thing.
CWM Recovery is necessary to flash custom roms. If you get root access, then probably you need to download AcerRecovery from the market, run it, and install Thor's Recovery image. (pretty painless).
And that's it. Then you have to follow instructions VERY CAREFULLY when flashing things, and always understand fully what you're doing.

He ran TimmyDeans root for 3.2.1. He downloaded and "read" the included instructions.
no, just followed the guide step by step, read it 4 times and proceeded.

Exactly
Better to ask questions, and avoid a brick, and definately read the instructions seveal times.
Oh yeah, a tidbit, make sure you hit "quote", so we know who you're replying to
Yup, it's all in the guide and if you get the latest versions (V4) there is nothing to load. It loads all the rooting tools and busybox stuff for you.
The other tools in the package are things that allow you to turn OFF OTA's so you're not blindsided by an OTA breaking root. Or you can take an OTA when you want and not when ACER wants you too. The backdoor tools are tools designed to stop an OTA from breaking root. However, V4 has one of these techniques already installed therefore if you don't turn off OTA's; most likely you'll keep root (again most likely, not guaranteed).

Junkyardjames87, I think this is what your asking for.

but seriously...next time take 5 mins to look thru the dev section for roms.
Ok,ok. I did find timmydeans post after i just logged off. I was just really really tired that night. If you read my sig and look into the motorola bravo you will see why I've been tired. Thankyou all for the help. I did get root bty so all is good now. And remember, we all started out as a dumb n00b before we found XDA.

Exactly. We were all n00bs at one time. Lest we ever forget.
"The only stupid question, is the one that never gets asked" (from an old guy long ago who has since traveled to "a better world")
Speaking for a lot of regulars here, we would rather answer n00b questions, (and yes, we will give some mocking in it), than to deal with a bricked tab later.
So you go ahead and ask those questions
Sometimes, users will give you an absolute hard time. Pay no attention to it. It's because we want you to use your resources. Do your searches. Be polite, and you'll find we'll help you in all that is possible. Sometimes, we don't have the answer (rarely), but others may.
And no, we do not always spend all day on the forums. Some of us live in different countries, with different time zones. And some have jobs and family also. So if certain people don't respond, well, give it some hours.

Exactly, well said.
now where should we star
fisrt off i want to say i didn't made the root for this model , the root of this device is already available on xda
this is the original post on how to root your lg g4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/...-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765/
now i'm just going to tell you what file and commands you must use in order to root the h-815p
now first get the International H815 10c Version pre rooted file and you also need the International H815 10c Version commands for that , again all the commands and files can be found in the original post , no all you have to do is just to follow the steps although it says its not compatible with the h-815p don't worry it will work i've tested it on a few h-815p models and so far there was no problems any way , PLEASE DO THAT AT YOUR OWN RISK just because it worked for me it may not work with you
and also a spacial thanks to all the developers on XDA for making it possible
if you have any questions let me know
Excellent tutorial,
But i was wondering what if i don´t want to flash my lg g4, instead i want to use another easy way like one click root. im a newbie rooting and don´t want to mess up my G4. Is there any tool to root it?
androidphoria dot com under desarrollo/root-lg-g4, explained it (in simple Spanish steps) but as a newbie rooting i need to know if this really works too. And as i mentioned i don´t want to mess my G4.
Thanks in advance xda-developers members!!!

I could be mistaken, but there are no one click root methods out. I have checked out the supplied link and seen the page for the one click root and it personally looks malicious to me. You could always sandbox the application and scan for viruses to verify it's authenticity.
Not sure rooting one click tool
Hi, ive already downloaded it and scan with A V G Avirus and noting happens, not threads founds. one click has a support list but there is not LG G4 in it, although it says that the list is not complete and rooting my phone maybe works, as a non harming tool i must test the rooting step, but still not sure. So, I´ve been looking with others like frama root, srs tools this last one has a support list but when you click on it, doesn't works. frama root (apk) never try, and there is another one, towel root. I googled little bit more and read that lot of users root s4, and s3 with it. These methods works in apk file. and except srs tools. iroot a Chinese version for pc and apk for cel, is anorther one. But still dont know if i try, i just barely bought the G4 4 days ago. And every blog i read, i saw to read xda-developers infos. maybe im wrong, but no body here mention rooting with one of those one click rooting tools. As newbie i cant post urls vid from you tube rooting with one of them. I dont want to try rooting my g4 if here in xda-developers, i dont get clearly what to do In very simple way for me, a newbie.
Again, thanks in advance

The methods posted here are pretty easy to follow.
The key is to read them completely, every single word, without skipping any.
Asking questions if you do not understand the instructions before you attempt to execute the steps, not after.
There is no one-click root method for the G4 right now.
Good luck in your choice.

Thanks a lot. I ll be patient and read carefully as you said,
The thing is that this process is not the easiest but I wanted to give some info to all the h_815P users that there is a root and that I its tested as well
Still looking a one click root for LG G4
As I said, I´ll be patient, but still looking for and found another one click method, it is Root Genius, but never try to root my g4. I know all the effort made by those here doing a Root for the LG G4, that really works and it is mention step by step in the original link post above described. when i said a root in a simple click is cuz its not familiar or easy to root for me as newbie. One click rooting for me is like Towelroot, unlock root, super one click, iroot(former vroot) kingoroot, framaroot. Again thanks in advance.
I am currently on V20d can I still use this method or should I downgrade first.
