I've flashed many different ROMs, some with their own built-in kernels (or so I believe), and I've flashed modems to address connection issues. Where can I see exactly what kernel and what modem my XT1575 is running?

Settings - About Phone... Modem is baseband version, and kernel is pretty obviously labeled.

Hi all, I'm new here so sorry if this is a noob question. I've been fiddling a bit with the software on my Vibrant and am a little confused which modem I'm using now. I flashed the Bionix V v1.3.1 which I believe has KB1. I proceeded to flash Overstock 1.4.3 found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967861 which is KA6 based. Does it mean that I have flashed over KB1 with KA6? I check the phone info and it says that the baseband version is T959UVKB1 though. I'm not sure if the baseband version changes with every modem flash or ROM flash.
Also, if I flash with an updated modem, eg. KB5, would my overstock be overwritten, or does it change only the modem?

whatever the extension on the baseband version is your Modem. So in your case its KB1.
Overstock is a kernel, totally different from the modem.
You can flash different kernels, it wont change your modem.
Kernels and Modems are two separate things. Overstock may be based on KA6, but that just involves the kernel.
If you flash the KB5 modem, that is the only thing that will change. Your kernel wont be affected.
Bionix 1.3.1 was built using KB1 modem
Its in the op for the rom

I recently upgraded my SM-N9005 to 4.4.x (tried several ROMs: stock 4-in-one & 5-in-one, CM11 & Omega v12) however they all show unknown baseband & null IMEI number. Flashing 4.4.x modems (ZHUENB5 & ZHUENC2) again did not help. After many tries I found that flashing a 4.3 modem (both XXUBMI5 & ZHUDMK1 work) on top of a stock 4.4.x rom solved my problem.
But why can't my phone use a 4.4.x modem? Does anyone have similar issues or have some clues to share? Thanks in advance!

ZHUDMK1 (extract modem.bin from this all-in-one):

Or XXUBMI5 (modem only):

Have you tried flashing without the sim?

flashing modem won't trip your knox.

First time I heard flashing modem could make your device in bootloop state.
Hello all,
I have an ATT i537. I do the Towelroot, then flash Securestrap, have tried Goldeneye, Samy, Hyperdrive, and others. I tried flashing the GT Kernel, I've tried leaving the stock kernel per Aroma installer, even the ATT Modules, but after every flash. No Wifi. I restore my ROM to factory via Odin. Wifi works.
Can anybody chime in on whats going on?
Thanks
Sounds like a firmware/baseband/OS mismatch. Make sure to flash ROMs that are the same version as your baseband/firmware.

You're in the i337 forum. Are you sure you're flashing the correct roms? See this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46652190

You can't flash custom kernels with this phone. I hate to break it to you, but the i537 has a locked bootloader.

For Wifi to work you need to flash the RIL files and modem files for i537. That will fix your issue. NO Matter whichever ROM you flash there are few things you will always need which MUST be model specific - those are (1) Bootloader, (2) RIL Files and (3) Modem; also at times (4) Stock Kernel - however the last one i.e. Stock Kernel is at times compulsory or optional - depends.
Correctly flash (Afresh) the working ROM for i537 and once all is finished instal i537 specific STOCK RIL Files and STOCK Modem and check - if that does not fix - flash STOCK KERNEL - of course all assuming that you have flashed right Bootloader (BL) right in the beginning of the whole process.
Hope above helps

Hi,
I updated my phone to unofficial cyanogen 13 marshmallow & last arter97 kernel but I'm having some issues with the baseband.
I have E330S Korean galaxy s4 but this version has a lot of differents baseband :
E330SKSUDOK1
E330SKSUDOB3
E330SKSUCNI1
E330SKSUBMK3
... And more or less 10 others
The cyanogen rom provides E330SKSUDOK1 which doesn't works on my phone.
I'd like to find the good baseband number version then I could flash it back with Odin.
I don't want to go back stock just to know what is my real baseband version/number...
Any idea?
Thanks

Hello,
It is impossible for a custom ROM to change your baseband.
The only way to change your baseband is by flashing a modem file or a stock firmware with Odin.
The baseband you have now is the baseband your phone came with.

OK thanks.
I'm using the same kernel in two different ROMs but gsm/3g only works in one of these ROM. (AryaMod V8.3 TW)
What problem could it be if it's not baseband problem ?

Just to know :
I'm using foreign sim card with Korean phone on a Korean network and I can't change the CSC via cyanogenmod...
But the Aryamod Rom is more close to stock Rom and has csc system and Korean csc.
I think that's it. Cause I can still do emergency calling on the cyanogenmod Rom.
So... How to change the CSC on cyanogenmod? I don't think it's possible right?

I did not say it can't be a baseband problem. I only said a custom ROM can't change your baseband, because you thought the CM ROM changed your baseband, or that's how I understood.
Anyway, you can try updating your modem (baseband) and see if it works.
There is no "best" or "right" modem. You have to try and see what works.
But I think the problem is from the kernel.
Try the ROM that does not have GSM/3G with the stock kernel it comes and see if the network works.
OK.
I just flashed the other ROM and it's definitely not a baseband problem, more likely... That *** CSC limitation.
It's very Samsung thing and I don't think there's/found a fix for that for cyanogenmod.
The kernel for cyanogenmod is arter97 11-2 kernel and the kernel for Aryamod is arter97 11-1 kernel,
But camera is working without network on the first one and network is working but not camera on the second one...
Thx for your help

Is this modem proprietary to the 10p bootloader and rom? Or can I flash the newer radio stuff without changing anything else? Thanks guys.
Nope. You can flash it, but you phone won't boot. You will need to flash your current modem back.
No this is how I screwed mine up
