I installed Marshmellow on my Lenovo K3 note K50 and everything was working fine.
Selecting different ringtones through Settings -> Sound Profile -> Rinngtones was possible.
But now after some period those ringtone buttons are not responding anymore.
I am not sure if the cause is WhatsApp.
I mention this, because i installed after the firmware install all my favourite apps and when i tried to configure a ringtone in Whatsapp itself, Whatsapp crashes. I reinstalled it, but the behaviour kept the same.
The next day i tried to configure a ringtone through settings and then i discovered this issue.
I have wiped, through wrtp, all cache like dalvik etc. -> no help
I have started up in safe mode -> no help
Anybody also had this issue and has a quick solution without going to factory default? (cause i am not sure if it will happen again and then it takes some time over and over again)

I tried,

How can I solve it
Hi,
I have a Note 3 with Lollipop 5.0.
A couple of weeks ago I started to get this annoying message when there's a call coming in. It forces me to reboot, (the popup doesn't go away but I use the split second after clicking ok to restart ...). Calling out is fine.
I've googled this error and the typical solution of clearing cache and data in the phone and SIM apps is not working.
The error doesn't happen in Safe mode so it suggests that is caused by an installed app. I did a backup and removed all apps and sure enough, the error didn't appear.
After many combinations and trial-error days of work I seem to have pinpointed the culprit.
I use Atom launcher and if I remove it and go back to the default 'TouchWiz' the error doesn't happen so it's definitely the custom launcher.
However, this started to happen recently despite having used Atom launcher for months with no issues. I've tried a previous version with the same problem.
Also, I've tried different launchers (nova, CM ...) and they all cause the error so, somehow the system won't accept ANY custom launcher and it causes the phone error .
I'm at a total loss .... any ideas ?
Thanks
I upgraded my device (it is actually a Huawei GT3 NMO-L31C432, but basically identical to the P9 lite) to Nougat couple of days ago. There were some issues regarding automatically upgrading, so I upgraded using fastboot etc. My model number and build number got messed up (NDR test keys) but apart from that all functionality seemed to be there (Wifi, mobile data, camera, sound etc) so I just fixed that in build.prop. However, I noticed a serious issue with push notifications (e.g. WhatsApp) and figured that this is pretty common for EMUI (this is my first Huawei device), so I went through all the settings to see if I could fix the issue (don't close WhatsApp automatically, ignore battery optimizations for WhatsApp, grant unrestricted data access, priority notifications). Yet, the issue couldn't be solved.
So I decided to wipe the phone through TWRP and reflash the firmware (basically following the steps outlined here: xxx/p9-plus/how-to/easy-upgrade-to-unapproved-emui-5-update-t3649532 Replace "xxx" with "https://forum.xda-developers.com/"). IMPORTANT REMARK: Before wiping and reflashing, I could change the ringtone etc - no issues.
Now, after configuration of the fresh system (root, restore most important apps using TitaniumBackup) it seems that the push notifications work fine. However, I can no longer change ringtone/notification sound in the system settings: Settings -> Sound (I apologize if these are not the usual expressions used in the English UI, I am using the German one). From there, I have options to open up other menus, such as ringtones for SIM1 and SIM2, or notification sound. If I press on those, it looks like they get "activated" but nothing happens. Settings in the same menu (Settings -> Sound) that just require to be activated/deactivated such as vibration on/off or a "sound when screen is locked" work fine. It is just that I can not open the list to choose between the preinstalled sounds. As a workaround I downloaded an app from the PlayStore and changed the ringtone via this app - no issue.
What I already tried/checked:
- Wipe Cache/Dalvik/ART through TWRP
- check /system/media/ringtones and /system/media/notifications -> all exist and all default sound .ogg files are there
- reflash just the system.img and wipe cache afterwards
Nothing of this helped. What could be wrong? What else could I try? In case someone suspects I messed up some files/settings using root: shouldn't be the case. All I did was flash the TWRP through fastboot, flash the recent SuperSU.zip and then used root access to setup AfWall+, AdAway and TitaniumBackup. TitaniumBackup was used to restore most important apps (mail, some office apps and such - NO system tweaks whatsoever). It also seems (only sometimes) like the settings in general are a bit laggy - very rarely they "freeze" for a second or so or if I want to get back to the previous page a black screen appears for a fraction of a second (as if settings crashed - but I end up where I want to).

Reflash firmware using dload method.
Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry that I forgot to mention that I tried this already but it always fails after verification if the software package. At 5% when installation should starts it stops "software verification failed. Incompatible software..." although I just want to reflash the one I installed successfully via fastboot.
Would it be dangerous to flash other imgs in the update.app, such as all the modem related ones. Might that even help at all? For many of them I am unsure what they really are, e.g. Trustfirmware.img... I guess xloader is the bootloader?
Try doing a rollback, search for Unified help thread for p9 lite. I've written in detail how to do it.
Thank you very much. Will give it a try later on. Hopefully the dload method for rollback will work
you have to revert back to your original fw and do the upgrade to nougat through hicare.... I had the same problem
This device is driving me insane. The dload method just never tends to work...
What I did:
put the UPDATE.app into dload folder (ROOT of external SD)
Start "dload" method using VOL+ & VOL- & POWER.
Fails after verification: "Software install failed! Incompatibility with current version. Please download the correct update package."
I suspected (after reading the Huawei pdf accompanying the rollback package) that maybe the root access and unlocked bootloader might be an issue. So I reverted the phone back to stock recovery, reflashed system.img to remove root and relocked the bootloader. Yet, dload fails with the same message as before. I think I will go ahead and try the rollback method for the GR5 mini (even though it's for south asia region, but hey... I just want a working phone. Can change CUST later on).
If that also fails I am really tempted to fully wipe the phone using TWRP and flash every single *.img that can be extracted from the UPDATE.app files. If I use a Marshmallow ROM as source for the img files, this should work as well as a rollback, right? Or do I have to expect major issues?
EDIT: The GR5 mini rollback also fails.
Deleting everything won't work... You will just face major issues.
Do you (or anyone else) have any other suggestion what I could try? Currently, as said, I would flash all *.img files that can be extracted from a Nougat UPDATE.app and can be flashed via fastboot (except for xloader.img and fastboot.img, which I believe to be the bootloader and the fastboot stuff, respectively?). Those that can't be flashed via fastboot would be converted to ext4.img files using imgtool and put into the proper partitions using "dd" command via adb. I hope that if I do this for both the ~1.3GB update.zip and the ~0.7GB update_data_full_NMO-L31_hw_eu.zip, the phone (unrooted, locked bootloader) will be in a state that eventually allows the dload method to work... Does this make sense? Are there any partitions that I should never ever flash manually?
So what I now did is probably not the best solution but for now it appears to be an "okay-ish" workaround. Using the C432 oeminfo of a P9-lite I converted my NMO-L31 to a VNS-L31 and then down/upgraded the smartphone to the recent software for the P9-lite. Seems to work now

Same issue. Whatsaspp suddenly stopped working from 2 days. Tried uninstalling and resinstalling new version , did phone hard reset as well, but still it is not working. Just white screen appears for a second on loading and reverts to phone home screen. Please help.
a workaround for this issue
Hi Guys,
I was facing the same issue after recently updating my whatsapp version from google store. I think there is some compatibility issue with latest version of whatsapp on Cynogenmod. I have Cynogenmod 12.1 installed OTA on my YU Yureka long time back. Not rooted.
Somehow I was able to get a workaround for this.
Below are the steps done.
1. Take backup of current installation through any 3rd party backup apps. I used All-in-one toolbox app's Backup/Restore feature.
2. Uninstall current version of whatsapp. Delete Whatsapp folder from device using file explorer.
3. Download older version of whatsapp. I downloaded version 2.17.443 from https_://whatsapp-messenger.en.uptodown.com/
4. Change system date to February 10, 2018. Since the above version got obsolete on 19th February 2018. Otherwise, whatsapp will keep showing you version upgrade screen and wont proceed.
5. After setting system date to old date in my phone. When I opened whatsapp, I was able to configure my number and start the whatsapp. It searched for messages backup on cloud and downloaded latest one available. Few messages were lost but I started receiving all messages that were sent in last 2 days since my whatsapp wasnt working.
Its a bit pain in ass, since changing systems date in phone means all your new sms and calendar events stuff etc will go on a toss.
I am looking for a way where we can avoid this version check in whatsapp so that we can happily use older version without upgrading and without changing system date.
You can even use whatsapp web while your whatsapp is working and then reset your systems date back to current one.
If anyone finds a crack to this version check in whatsapp then pls do share.
Thanks.
Best Regards,
Harsh

I also performed same factory reset and same issue is there with whatsapp. Now few more issues started coming up like unable to save contacts, device reboot takes 9hrs , many tabs/options are invisible, unable to register mobile on YU as url has been changed. Do I need to install any custom ROM or uninstall Cyanogen. Please help!
Just uninstall the latest version of whatsapp and Download & install 2.17.427 version of whatsapp. It is working fine. There is no need to change the date-time.
I am facing the same issue with many other latest apps like paytm, phonepe, ES file explorer etc on Yureka.
Same problem occurs in my yureka device.
When I opened whats app, my device got bricked ,stucked at cyanogen logo.
Help.
Thanks.
Try to uninstall the latest version of WhatsApp and then download & install V2.17.426 of WhatsApp.

Hello people, I am new to this device and forum. I would appreciate any help you can give. I love the device, but I am struggling with something concerning Google Photos. It keeps getting stuck at various points in the backup process. I have searched several ways and have tried the suggestions about uninstalling updates, clearing the data cache, even purchased a new SD card... but still it is stuck. On previous phones, I have had NO problems with this at all on my previous phones. I have updated to MIUI 11 and I am using Nova Pro as my launcher. I have also tried using the Gcam mod on the phone and somehow I wonder if this is part of the issue?
Feedback please.
Solved with MIUI 11. Update and make full reset AFTER update (Settings --> About Phone --> Backup and reset --> Clean all data --> All).
Worked for me. If not, i dont know (try with another account?).

Thanks for the info! So, were you having similar issues before you did the reset? I have already updated to MIUI Global 11.0.4 but I have not tried the reset yet.
To help with this conversation... it seems that if I remove all the Google Photo updates, it behaves correctly, BUT when I allow the app updates to go through, the backup issue returns.
I will try the reset suggestion soon and report back.
To keep this discussion moving along, here is an update... I did the full reset after I had already upgraded to MIUI 11, however, the same issue persists for me. If I allow Google Photos to update past what was originally installed, the app gets stuck again. I can uninstall all updates and clear the caches and it will start working OK again. This is a pain and the issue should not exist. Let me emphasize that the devise is NOT rooted and is all original. I have installed Nova Prime launcher from the Play Store and my usual apps.
Anyone else have ideas - outside rooting and using a custom ROM?
Ok, to add a little more... I removed Nova as I wonder if there is some incompatibility with how it works with MIUI. It was acting a bit odd at times and "often" it would loose its ability to display notification badges. It would say that I needed to enable notification access, but I am 100% sure that it was already allowed. I would then turn that permission off and back on and it would start working again. So, I have gone to the less custome "Poco" launcher which is sup[posed to be a more official Xaiomi product.
