371 update completely ruined camera quality - Honor 7 General

Did anyone notice this ? After getting the 371 update OTA, camera quality is awful! All detail is smudged and looks like a watercolor filter as before it was excellent...

Nope. I took lot of photos since I've updated to 371 and quality is OK (colors, sharpness etc.)

I would say that camera quality on B371 got better...

Photo got worse after upgrading "Photo Enhancement ROM

Anybody experienced this problem? I need help! When I first got the XDA II MINI, the 1.3 mp pictures are quite ok considering a phone cam. After upgrading the camera ROM upgrade from seeo2.com, the 1.3 mp pictures got many obvious white spots, but the rest pixels pictures are fine...very weird !
Very strong sharpening might result in white pixels at edges. Thats an artifact of (too strong) sharpening and can be avoided by less strong sharpening.
Try a lower value at your sharpness setting.

Very good tip for me...changing the sharpness. Isnt it ironic that O2 actually made this ROM to enhance the sharpness, but when sharpness is enhanced to a new level at a capibility to "Sharpness value=15", the white spots is caused by it? Anyways, you saved me from flashing the original rom...I have almost done that! thx again!
XDAII Mini
Is this camera patch applicable / usable to the XDAII Mini?
Yes the patch works on the XDAII mini as well. It's a cab file that you can isntall on any Magician.
I didn't like this patch at all. I found the quality to be much worse after installing the upgrade, especially in night mode. Decreasing the sharpness to 5 still doesn't give the same quality as before.
When I get mine back from repair (broken external speaker :-( ), I will certainly NOT install the patch!

camera flash, change it to one since hotfix?

I'm sure like me, many people here have installed the camera hotfix by now. is anyone else's flash super bright now after the second flash? taking pictures in the dark is near impossible now. all I get is a white blob of what should be the person I'm taking a picture of lol...
Yes mine is now super bright Ive not been able to tome it down yet
This problem has been discussed before on this forum (try searching for it) and has been a problem even before the hotfix. Looks like HTC will need to come out with a second hotfix.
Well, for me the hotfix worked realy well, and the flash now is better then ever.

Try to take a picture of something close to you. Or in a dark environment, take a picture of a person sitting right across the table from you.
Yes, using flash on close-in objects is useless. All you get is a bright picture. This ain't good.
Here is a picture I just made with my HD2.
It was takem 20cm away with flash on.
EDIT: Sorry, my mistake. Now it's the photo with flash.
RRibeiro
Is that picture with the lights on or off?
Problem happens with flash on in dark environments.
Still it's not a good picture. Look at the bottom of the picture, not good. There's room for improvement IMO.
Not just in dark environments, see attached pictures of HTC Official Online Store discount card (for scale, it's about the size of a credit card) taken at my office (with rather bright ambient light).
I installed the hotfix and I'm loving the camera now. Better color, better overall image. And the strange hue is gone. Also tested the flash, it's not the best flash ever of course, but coming from a no-flash at all (HD), I'm satisfied enough. It does the job fine.
try taking a photo of yourself at arms length
you'll be blind for a bit, plus the photo will be way too bright
totally agree...the hot-fix has now ruined all close up flash photographs as it just burns out to a bright white blob. Very poor.
(and in doing so they only managed to reduce, not eliminate the pink blob without the flash)
double post due to Bad Gateway...
I don't see anything that was "ruined" by the hotfix, it was the same without it.

Working for me.
Fixed the bright flash issue... i just dont know how??
If this is a little late and the issue has already been addressed, then my apologies.
Anyway, Yesterday, i was becoming very annoyed with the sudden increase in flash power since the pink blob hotfix, so i started looking at what the problem might be.
Firstly it appeared that the problem was that the timing was slightly wrong with regards to the exposure. So i looked through all the settings and started switching features on and off in the hope that there might be an action that delayed the exposure long enough to get a good reading.
Basically this became boring very quickly as i was not getting any change in the result but while my attention lagged in the task, i must have made the essential change.
Now the flash works exactly as it did before the Hotfix!
Now the question is: who else still has this problem and would you be willing to try adjusting all the settings to achieve the same result... but this time with more attention to detail than i had.
As far as i can remember the setting i had adjusted were Shutter sound "ON" and wide-screen "ON", then went back and turned them off again.
Its a long shot, but something made it work.
For me, the flash is still too much bright. I have to disable it. And the HTC update didn't solve the pink blur at all. And i don't talk about the JPEG compression which is awful.
Well this camera is just a disaster ...

Agree about the flash power... only way for a hotfix to address that issue would be to decrease the duration of the flash when it fires.
Disagree about the camera being a disaster overall... with the hotfix and the settings tweaked (contrast +4, sat +3, sharpness +4), the HD2 camera takes pics that are pretty-much identical in overall quality to my Nokia N95 8GB.

Compared to my previous phones (Asus P525 and P750), the quality is very bad when you look the picture at 100% of the real size. All JPEG artefacts are hudge. I prefer a medium resolution and good JPEG compression than high resolution and bad JPEG compression.

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Hey. Does anyone else have this problem? See attached files. That green streak at the bottom of the screen.
nope!
picture quality is great, daylight pictures are wonderful, low light pictures are good with a lot of details if the subject is not moving.. if moving they kinda sucks but because acquisition time is long so it is difficult to catch a steady image... but in general in very happy and much better of previous Sony phones i had!
Pics are great
At least the daylight pics are great. I don't know about night pics yet, but seem great too.

It looks like the effects from the sunlight? But i guess you also tried it when there's no sun shining? If so, it might be a defect camera. Mine takes excellent pictures.
Hi, anyone having trouble with macro shots on this phone or is it just me? It seems like the minimum distance between the camera and the object I want to focus on has to be roughly 60-70mm if not more, which is very very far. My friend's s8 can do up less than 30mm without having focusing issues. Is there a setting I don't know about or is it just an inherent flaw of the phone?
Thanks.

Didn't mean to quote. Thought I'd post a few since no one is. I think the camera can be improved. To me it over sharpens in many cases and in low light the mode is too aggressive.

Hi! I just got my xz2 compact and I noticed that parts on the left side of the images are a bit softer than the right side. Maybe its because the protector glass in the case is not flat compared to the lens? Or maybe because my camera is not calibrated well?
I compared some pictures by making a photo landscape and turn the camera 180 degrees and repeat the photo. See my comparison here: photos.app.goo.gl/bKzgtzV4TZTt2oncA
Would this annoy you? Can anyone try to reproduce this?
have some pretty mixed feelings about those. Is this considered good ?!

okay, now I as able to detect the kind of problem. Its actually has something to do with the focus capabilities. If you switch to manual mode and use manual focus, I found that the highest value (the mountain) is not infinity in my phone but quite a bit beyond. That way its already blurry. Is this the same on your phones? Is the infinity focus setting really infinity?
Photo quality in other camera apps
Hey,
I just bought myself a xz2c - coming from a z3c. I used to take pics with camera Apps like "a better camera" or "open camera" because the shots were superior to These from the Stock app.
So i tried the same on my xz2c but the quality is worse than the Stock app - it's more visible on the selfie cam. Why does this happen?
Even the shots through WhatsApp and instagram are strangely Bad. (Yeah i know that these Apps shoot lower res pics but the difference is huge now. Deffo not how it should be)
Clan somebody reproduce this with the front cam on other camera apps aswell?

I think it is generally a hit or miss if a third party app does well with the sensor on the phone, I don't own this phone but have experienced bad quality (not just res) pictures with these apps on other phones. Why not just stick with the stock cam if it's good?

I'm finding that most of the pictures I'm taking of people seem to be softened by the software. The softening of the pictures actually make them look pretty bad. Anyone else having this issue? Just using default settings when taking the pictures

Agree, portrait mode is terrible, also all the photos add some kind of softening filter. Only good thing is that you can edit the center of the photo so you can move the bokeh effect.

Well I use open camera mostly due to options. At low light I've found that the image quality is GREAT if you use 4MP(16:9) checked with 9MP and 12MP(always at 16:9 ratio).
In 4MP at very low light I was super impressed(always 100% jpeg quality in the open camera app). Test it yourself, it worth your time. Just make sure you have a steady surface
EDIT: uploading pictures 12MP, 9MP, 4MP
Image difference 2-3 seconds apart - 9:00pm (4MP>12MP>9MP). Don't know why 4MP is so much better(less MP is worse than 12MP)

What do you give up by using open camera (does tele and wide angle switch work and how is 4K video etc) so far I like the manual mode of the stock miui camera app but also like the idea of using a standard app off the play store

Well if you want optical zoom you still need to use the stock camera, 4K rec? you can but I pref 1080p also I do like to adjust the bitrate of the video and audio and open camera does have that. I use to use this app to my 1+1 too
I like to customize everything and miui camera well ..2-3 settings at best
P.S. Open camera also doesn't have panorama but talking to the dev and said he's planning to include a panorama soon - Did you check the low light quality in 4MP? impressive(compered to higher res)
testing

Question Weird camera issue

Hi
I notice photos that I take with my phone looks like it's not properly focused and it's blurry, this only happen when I'm shooting landscapes and faraway objects, closer objects looks fine and sharp.
anyone here facing this issue or have a possible fix for it?
I tried Gcam too and it didn't help.
It looks like you are simply at the limits of the zoom and sensor resolution.
