S7 Battery life and message sending after root - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

Alright regular galaxy s7(AT&T) After root it charges ridiculously slow if at all, and i cant send texts. I ran the fix and debloater zips. but the issues still persist. Anyone else encountering these issues? anyone have a workaround or fix available?

These is a zip you can flash that will fix the battery, lag and heat issues. I have used it and it has helped massively. No more issues, performance is amazing and battery lasts a long time for me. I found it in the root or rom thread.

Charging time, repeated root perm request after froyo 2.2 leak update + fixes

I've been noticing the following issues since 2.2 update and applying the fixes posted
Issues that seems to come from update:
1. Charging takes much much longer
Issues that may be from applying the fixes posted in another thread.
1. root priv popup happens randomly stating that XXX app has been granted root
2. gmail pops up with the welcome to gmail message
Curious if anyone else is seeing this.
I've noticed the charging time has increased. Also, the battery life is even worse than before. It seems that the android system is eating up most of my battery. That and the cellular standby. I thought froyo was supposed to be more efficient...

I believe you can go into Superuser Permissions and disable the notification whenever an app is granted root permissions, and the Gmail popup should only be on the first run. At least, I haven't had it happen more than that.
Not only does it use more battery my phone runs way hotter with the leaked froyo Rom. Using the xda app it would get up to like 105.7°F compared to only around 97.7°F on the leaked 2.1 ota. I also seem to have the same issue with the newer cm and skyraiders don't remember this with the older roms that are not based off the leaked froyo rom.

Another really important development thread
I have also noticed an increase in charging time, but I think the decrease in battery life people are seeing is because the processor is not underclocking to a speed around 300mhz like it did before the leaked 2.2 rom.
The 2.1 based roms and kernels would underclock when not being used to capacity but these bottom out around 600-700 mhz when not in standby as far as I can tell.
Yea, I am also seeing the battery drain insanely quick - much quicker than it was prior to 2.2 and yes, I'm also seeing the battery temp go up much higher than it did in the past.
Are these symptoms of the leaked patch not being 100% complete?

The Internet is addicted to anecdotal evidence!
I have seen my battery life improve and charging times decrease -- I'm using stock 2.2 leak w/ patch v4.

Naver LINE chat causes battery drain. Anyone else noticed it?

Hi!
I'm using my new Nexus4 for a week and I can't believe that its battery duration is worse than my old Samsung Galaxy SII. Yesterday I looked to the "Battery" in the settings app and I saw that the program spending the most of the battery was Naver LINE chat, a 46%!!!!! I'm not a power-user of LINE (the latest time that I opened it was 4 days ago).
I can't believe it, but I uninstalled the app for testing if the battery drain disappear today.
Anyone else has noticed it?
I did, since the latest update I'm experiencing this too, I'm waiting for an update to fix this
yep definitely one of the biggest wakelock source. I froze it with titanium backup and my battery stats went up significantly.
it happen to me too according to Better Battery Stat app. hope next update will solve this problem
Fine! I'm not mad LOL!
I was asking to my friends with different Android mobiles (SGS2, SGS3, Sony Xperias...) and any of them has noticed it.
Is it possible that some custom ROMs (or maybe some stock ROMs like the Samsung ones) are "fixing" in some way this wakeLock for avoiding battery issues? It's estrange that people with the latest LINE version in Android are not experiencing the issue...
I believe the latest update has fixed this

Unfortunately, not for me
Still using more than 40% on my N4 and my wife's N4 as well.
No way to report this to the developers.
Not to beat a dead horse but I'm curious about this also.
I feel like Line is a huge battery drain and I'm tempted to uninstall it.

Mine also like this and it has been kept awake for nearly an hour....jesus.

Has anybody rooted the T-mobile S7 edge and actually kept it rooted?

A few days ago, I rooted my phone. My phone got hot and slow so I restored a stock image. Has anyone rooted their phone that actually uses it?
Did all those tutorials actually make the rooted phone worth using?

Been rooted for about close to 3 weeks now. Soon as i rooted, flashed TEKXV2 and all has been good so far. Never had an issue with phone not staying rooted. There are more than a few tweaks floating around that will definitely help improve things overall. But again, never had any type of issues staying rooted.
when you rooted, did you change the kernel governor to Interactive? That should have helped some with the phone getting hot.
It hasn't happened to me yet.

Just read all 80 pages of the how to root thread and then the post root problens thread. Everything you need is in there. Just seriously take the time to read and take notes and itll be the best rooted phone ever. Been a month for me. If you dont read it all people arent going to answer because of all the repetative questions that keep getting asked because of people not reading the existing info

The root on the s7 edge has been the best root for me so far and I've been rooting since the g1 days. If you follow all instructions you will have no problems. Use package disabled pro and turn off software update, there are 2, and you should be good with keeping root for as long as you want. I'm using viper and getting all day battery with tekhd ver2.
I'm running root on the stock ROM and so far so good. I have ViPER4Android + Dolby Atmos and things couldn't be better. The lag and heating issues lasted only for about the first 24 hours, after that battery life improved and the lag ceased a lot. Disable all the bloatware, set the cpu and you'll be fine.
I'm still rooted on stock PG9. After the first day, through heavy tweaking, I was able to get SOT above stock time. There is no lag, and benchmark numbers dropped by less than 2% due to the tweaks.
I have two S7 Edge phones. I rooted one last weekend and after a day, rooted the second one. Only the first one is still rooted today. I'm still not so sure I like the battery life on the rooted one. I changed the governor to on demand as was recommended by the OP in the root thread. After 17hrs standby, I have one hr screen time with 49% left to go. I average about 2-3 hrs on the non rooted phone with 1-2 days standby. I'll likely get less then two on the rooted one with just over a day of standby.
I seriously thought of going back to stock on the rooted one today but I'll hold out for a few more days.
I still have my Note 5, Note 4, Note Edge all rooted so I have plenty of toys to play with no matter what I do with the S7 Edge.
Use this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039 - in the "recommended next steps", there is a flashable zip that corrects all the kernel issues. I've been running flawlessly with it, better battery life than my wife's unrooted S7E.

downgrading from nougat to marshmallow

hey all
ive read that many people had problems with their battery lives since the update to nougat. i installed one custom rom (RR) on nougat on my nexus 6p but then due to the inexistence of xposed framework decided to downgrade to marshmallow again (same rom RR). my problem is that ever since i did that, my battery life even on MM is severely bad (as soon as unplugged from charger, battery starts to drain, even after a clean flash, and moreover when phone reaches 15%-10%, phone turns off on its own with battery dead notification)
am just wondering if any nougat residue files still exist somewhere that i can just get rid off somehow though i wiped device fully(including internal)
and if not, what other options do i have? am suffering with the battery life, big time
thanks

There is nothing left over after a wipe and flash
Make sure battery saver auto shutdown is off.
It may take a day or two for the battery to be normal after a flash.
Charge to 100% the let the battery drain o shut down.

Just stay on nougat, just make sure you get a good rom like Chads uber and faster angler kernel.
Download a battery calibration app from the store. One that uses root. That fixed the early shutdown problem for me.

What do you even get with xposed though? I know there's amplify but there's something called wakeblock on nougat which is very similar. It only works on stock rom or custom but you'd have to integrate the patch file with git into the custom ROM which includes making a build of Android through linux in terminal.

Your problem could be the phone. If you still have warranty I'd recommend trying to rma it

Huawei are bsing you and are obviously too greedy with money to give you a replacement. With the app mods you can basically get the same stuff anyway with modified apks. There's an easy way to get youtube adaway and background playback through modified apks and lucky Patcher and there's apps like instagram++ What's the messenger mod?

None of that seems worth staying on marshmallow. That mod doesn't even seem useful and I'm sure there's a modified apk that can do that without xposed.

Nougat is great there's modified apks for basically any xposed mod and xposed will be out eventually and I know it will probably be hard to leave it but I have forgotten about it. The custom ROM and kernel I use get me 6-7 hours sot too and because apps install with jit they install quicker. There are also other benefits like speed performance, layout like settings and custom ROMs aren't really supporting marshmallow anymore for nexus 6p and there's other things too like more mods like Google Assistant is as simple as flashing a zip or changing and adding to the build.prop etc etc
Here's the screenshots you asked for in pm
I've got 7.1.1
But battery still dies fast as soon as off the charge. Am using RR latest build and kernvatore kernel. Also at 20% dies suddenly. Did the battery calibration as well
I too love me some xposed modules! I've been on Nougat since the initial release so I've been missing xposed for quite sometime. I have faith that xposed will be released for N eventually...
As far as battery on nougat, I was able to make it a little better by turning off all my sync settings from google. I also installed better battery stats and came to find out that Facebook and its messenger app never like to go to sleep and drained the hell out of my battery. Greenify app fixed that issue for me.

Horrible battery life

I'm running Resurrection Remix on the latest build and have been having horrible battery life (about 2 hours sot) since quite a while now. I now charge like 2-3 times a day and overnight...
I recently did a clean wipe and reinstalled all my apps while only restoring Google authenticator and wifi passwords with titanium backup. I'm rooted with Magisk. I bought my Axon7 quite exactly one year ago. Have I fried my battery?

No, not really... I mean I can set a power profile, but that doesn't really do much.
I have to confirm that again, but if I turn on Airplane mode, my battery is a beast. I think there's some sort of drain coming from the kernel or something

You could try flashing a different modem for your model.
Maybe an app or two also keeping it awake and trying for a network? Not getting a deep sleep in doze.
Stock ROM has power manager and I suspect that is the only reason I get a day from mine.
If you're still suffering I suggest you go back to stock or reflash properly as in step by step and make sure nothing has gone wrong.

Where would I get that? I believe a friend helped me flash one a few weeks ago, but I don't remember where it was from. (I've had the issue before too, though)
I get this too. Absolutely horrible battery life. Well this started happening after I flashed the B32 bootstack and stock system to fix my camera issues. At first I thought it was the stock rom but I flashed candyrom and the llama sweet kernel EAS version and I still get it. I do think it's the phone signal but I'm not sure yet. I used to drop to 98% in about 10-20 minutes with WiFi on and screen on. Now I lose 10% in that time. I went from 98% (it doesn't even want to fill charge anymore but I think it's the kernel) to 92 in 10 minutes.

I feel you... I really hope it's just basically a software issue... If you have any solution, please, please update me and the others here - i just flashed the kernel that got recommended to me and I'll try if it makes things better. Otherwise I'll wait for Oreo, I guess...
I'm not even that sensible to bad battery life in phones because i always carry a powerbank, but if the phone barely makes it to work in the morning and I have to recharge it at work at 25% or so, it gets a little annoying ^^

True that...I don't believe it to be the battery. It could be software. I noticed that my battery usage spikes up to 1140+ mAh and stablizes at 460 mAh which is way too much. I remember only getting up to 430+ in worst cases and stabilizes at 200-300+
Here's what my battery usage looks like:

Fullstock is how I got into this mess i think, since this started happening as soon as I flashed B25 bootstack and stocksystem. But the new baseband, I'll try that and see how it goes. However that's B25, we're on B32 so hopefully someone posts the new modem. I have not tried flashing an older bootstack as I somehow doubt that will fix it. Granted, i noticed my battery life starting to wear while I was on an older bootstack while on DARK rom.
ediit: it seems i'm already running this modem version. https://imgur.com/a/8jeEh
