Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Note5's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
When using the Note5 heavily, I can get through an entire day...but barely. Like if phone comes off the charger at 7am and I beat the crap out of it with tons of use, it'll be at around 10% by 8 or 9pm. If I'm going out, I just put it on the fast charger and bam, I'm back up to 50% in like 30 minutes.
I'm getting 8hrs sot, with WiFi running continuous, but mobile data off,I'm moderate user, still my previous phone didn't last me a day,but thanks to this phone now I'm carefree about battery, well at least for me the quest for better battery ends

I just got the phone and am only getting from 7am to 1-2pm, then having to charge you guys must not browse the web a lot and use social media to much.
when you full charge with your note 5 100% what is the timing estimate usage hours
Dear All,
i want to know your phone when you full charge with your note 5 100% what is the timing estimate usage hours?
for me show 24hr8m.
would you help tell me about your phone it is the same or not.
Thanks

man this phone battery sucks, i use sometimes facebook, and have some news apps , some youtube, email, and bit of this and that
i charge it overnight and leave home at 8 am
and at 7 pm the phone battery is dead that is such a bad battery i wish to know how the people here praise its battery it really is bad
HI Man, it is as same as me
man today it ran out of battery so fast by 5pm it is dead, and i barely used it . Oh man i feel i did a huge mistake buying this phone
i tried factory restting it and still the same
this is so so so bad that i am so missing my iphone which was working great and had an amazing battery life
and add salt to the injury i ended up buying the sm-n920k which is the korean version and this has no rom support what so ever here on xda
i am so disappointed
For those of you that are having a lot of trouble getting through a day, I'd highly recommend this http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/guide-bloating-touchwizzing-note-5-t3184563 because I got at a minimum 150% of my original screen on time compared to when I just got the phone.
Guys i don y know what you re doing but my battery life is amazing. By far the best phone and battery money can buy at the moment. Check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63851201
I'm not sure what you people with terrible battery life are doing. I hardly used my phone today but it's still been on for a while. Switch to T-mobile and put some cool stuff on it. I am by no means an android expert, but the quest for battery life is how I discovered XDA.
My experience is different. With moderate use i drain about 12% an hour. Then again im on the moar rom with no bloatware running in back ground. But heck even with heavy use. I have yet to see the phone less than 50%.
i am not using my phone when i at work and now 16:15pm. unplugged at 07:00am. total 12,5 hours on. SOT is 1 hours and now phone at %37. Heavy AndroidSystem and AndroidOS battery drain. i tried to use my phone without root for one week but impossible. %5 per hour. Battery graphic is going down everytime!!! This is so stupid!! again i will root my phone and i will use custom kernel and again everything will be fine again.
1) samsung dont know how to code a good kernel
2) without root note 5 is worst multitasking phone with huge 4gb of ram
3) without root i cant even delete that never use and never wanted phones by me (facebook or instagram or other bull****s)
4) without root i cannot use my phone without lagfree( because i must disable or delete some useless apps that allways sits on my RAM!!)
5) i paying lots of money and for use a good phone i must forget my guarantie!!
Thanks a lot samsung! note 5 will be my last samsung phone
Actually we must talk about that! Thanks !!

Thnks....
I get very decent battery life, check this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/battery-life-discussion-t3178480
I currently have all of the bloatware running, as well. I used to use Package Disabler Pro, but no longer find that I need to use it for battery life. 99% of the time I am NOT using wifi either.
Things I have done (to the best of my memory):
1. Disabled VOLTE
2. Wifi calling
3. Turn off location history
4. Remove Android Device Manager as a Device Administrator
5. Screen brightness set pretty low, but I have it set to auto as well
Probably a couple of other things I missed, but I believe those optimizations have greatly improved battery life on my phone.
Hope this helps.

Any one has this problem after the latest update i have battery drian faster and my phone always has used more than 85% from ram.(Note5 SM_N920c)???
i would say this accounts for heavy use...a little bit of everything but.mostly youtube 1440p videos with almost full brightness...some facebook, browsing, games, etc...only wifi. from this point till i reach 5% i ll use only data to.simulate further heavy usage - so i ll update the info as soon as i reach 5% or so...
my config : darthstalker v5, skyhigh kernel 2.6 undervolted by around -100mv on almost everything, if you want i ll post links to the synapse settings from othe threads...and frequencies locked to a57 min @600 max @2400mhz, a53 min @300 max @1500mhz, gpu 266/600mhz. coming up - only data connection from 51% to 5%.
and here s the end result (so basically 49% spent only on wifi and another 46% spent only on data...

Hey guys i got a s4 for free a few weeks ago and the battery was having issues so i brought a new battery from Samsung for $50. I guess the phone is $50 now huh, still that's a good price. Anyway i have an improvement in standby time over the old battery that seemed to drain no matter what, but i only get around 2hrs to 3hrs screen on time full brightness with a mix of auto. The phone tends to get warm when its below 40% power. Also using the phone drains it at a fast rate, but standby only 1% per 8mins or so witch is good. Im backing up with twrp and titanium backup, ive tried recalibration, and im about to do a factory reset on this (stock touchwiz)
Sent from my LG-D320n using Tapatalk
Battery calibration apps are a placebo.
Anyway, let me tell you a little story:
2 weeks ago I watched a 2 hour movie on my phone. Started from 100% ans towards the end of the movie I was left with about 50% battery.
Screen brightness was around 60%, WiFi was enabled and the mobile reception was 4G.
All things considered I would assume I can get 4 hours SOT, since it took 2 hours to get from 100 to 50.
This is on a custom rom and battery oriented kernel settings.
Also take into account that I was watching a movie, so the CPU was idling most of the time. Doing tasks and switching from one app to another drives the CPU up.
Your screen-on time seems acceptable to me. I have to mention that my battery is one and a half years old, but I always took good care of it (I never let it discharge too much and never left it charge too much, as both of those, over time, can reduce its storage capacity).
Im using Albe95 rom with a custom kernal and the battery is draining slightly less, ive reduced my brightness to 60% and its drained from 100% to 77% in standby and extremely light use in 6hrs (about 4hrs standby drained 6% and 2 hrs of on off use every now and then drained about 17%. I guess im used to my old LG L70 D320n witch could hold up at full brightness forever. Will Cyanogenmod 13 bring much improvement for me?

I don't know. Maybe Optimized CM13 because it has a custom kernel and you can select battery or performance profiles.

You won't miraculously get 5-6 hours SOT even if the battery is new.
Maybe with lowest brightness, WiFi and mobile data off you will.
Underclocking and undevolting might help a little, but I don't see anyway of getting more than 5 hours.

There's a guide in the general section, _Bon_Bon's tweaks.., Something along those lines is the title.
It has a guide on how to increase battery life.
The guide is based on alucard kernel, though.
Alucard kernel is available for any 5.0 and 5.1 roms. But there is no public build for android 6.
Only JDCTeam roms have alucard kernel for android 6. Those roms are Optimized CM13 and AOSP 6.0 rom.

Ok so slowly things have improved but today when it was at 9% (6:30pm charged this morning) it froze up and i pulled the battery. Then it jumped down to 2% at restart! This has happened before (cant remember if it was on stock rom or the note 5 rom im using on it now) from 40% freeze, pull battery, restart, 22%! Any idea why this happens. I talked to samsung about the battery performance and they just wanted me to send the phone too as "its not just the battery" just for more money instead of honering their 3 month ****ty warranty! Stick it samsung my next phone will be lg like the rest, even though i only just brought this damn phone

The freezes might be caused by CPU undervolting, if you did any.
But the battery percentage dropping suddenly is a sign of a bad battery. It might drop 2 or 3% during the boot up, but not 20%.

Samsung say the phone is the problem. Today i got to 40% and it jumped to 30% within 20 mins. Then i pulled the battery and started the phone up, repeating this multiple times to see the battery percentage. It jumped between 24% 15% and 19% up and down each time i pulled battery and restarted (no crashing just to see what happens). Is this enough to tell Samsung ITS NOT MY PHONE.

Apparently they refuse to accept the possibility that they might have sold you a faulty battery, so they blame the phone.
I don't see how the phone might drain the battery from a hardware perspective.
It's possible from a software perspective, but since you changed roms it is unlikely to be software related.
Did you install any apps to check if the phone enters deep sleep? Or if there is anything keeping the CPU at max frequency?

How did you calibrate it?
Battery calibration apps are a placebo. What they do is they delete the batterystats.bin file which, as stated by a Google engineer, has no relation to battery life or the battery display.
Also, that file gets deleted automatically at every reboot by android itself.
What you could do is:
First let your battery fully discharge, until the phone turns off. Then try to turn it back on. If it turns on, proceed to use it until it turns off again. Do this until the phone won't turn on again.
Now the battery is completely empty and you can plug it in to charge. Let it charge to 100% without interruptions.
Take into account that it can take up to 3 hours to fully charge.

Haha done this before to no avail. Will do again but i noticed battery life is generally better if i leave it charging for 10hours after its charged fully. Instead of taking it off when it gets to 100% but i think a long worded and very angry email is about to be sent to the Samsung repair centre
Sent from my LG-D320n using Tapatalk
on my travels around google I've read many times that with lithium batteries you NEVER want to completely discharge or overcharge them. give it 10 minutes extra once fully charged, not more. you're damaging the poles or terminals or something I can't remember fully when at either extreme. all you achieve is a shorter lifespan for your battery.
discharge it until it turns off but never until it can't turn on again. it has a chip in the battery that needs to stay powered too.
So I got my GS8 yesterday and this is the battery life I get with:
AOD off
No battery saving profile
Wifi on all the time
4G network but no data
Automatic brightness
No gaming, about an hour of video playback
Since I can't share outside links I'll just write the info here: (From 100% to 3%)
Last charged: 10h ago
Screen on time: 4 hours and 30 minutes (812mAh)
Android System: CPU total: 3 hours and 11 minutes (312mAh)
This is not even close to what I expected, do you think this is normal?
Normal. It's happened with both my S8 and my G6. Your battery life will get better in 3-5 days. Android is setting stuff up and optimizing battery life behind the scenes.
You bought it yesterday. Give it time to settle.
Also, turn off automatic Samsung cloud backup, it's on by default.

What did you expect from a 3000mah battery? It all depends how you use the phone, i can empty the battery in an hour if I want.
4.5h is more than respectable, if you want more lower the brightness and use a black theme.

It pretty much. Also depend on how many apps you installed. If you dont want it run much, add it to smart manager sleep list. My idle about 3hrs/1% man. This is my battery current round and apps list. About 10% wasted battery because I did clear davikcache a few times
This should be normal. with AOD on, my phone takes about 2% per hour, but when browsing webpages, every 1.5 hours costs about 10% of power, watching videos should take more. also, the 1080p and 2k resolution have notable differences. so it seems that the white-background screen cuts down most of battery life, i think.

hmm, i turned my phone as power-saving as possible - brightness is less than half of the bar, suspended all background apps, and FHD resolution. also, after some days of usage, the system should be able to auto balance the power consumption by sleeping some unused apps and some Samsung's system services maybe. so i don't think this is an issue.

Dont believe every sot someone posts here, i've seen a few 8 or 9 hour sot's but i'll bet the brightness was as dim as can be and they used a black theme. Or they were probably reading a book on the phone which uses no cpu at all or using the battery saving feature.
Your z1 also had a 3000mah battery, yet it had a smaller/dimmer screen, lower resolution, less ram, much slower cpu/gpu. How can you be complaining?

yeah, you're right, the AMOLED screen with high brightness and white color is the real battery killer. also BTW, does the 'sot' mean 'screen-on time'? sorry for my bad English...
Yup screen on time
4.5h is more than enough ! I am coming from a S6E+ it used to give me 2h SOT MAX ! Hated my life with it.
Do you plat Pokemon Go? I find a lot of people I see complaining about battery do, that game is very poorly optimized for battery consumption.

It's more normal than not.
i'm getting an average drain of 9.5% per hour and i've tried different kernels , upon flashing the kernel for the first day i'd get about 8 or 7.7 ℅ drain per hour but after a day or two it jumps back up to 9.5 - 10 is this too much for active drain?? can this be fixed with a kernel or a custom rom? Btw i forgot to mention i'm getting this active drain at about 10-15 % brightness and i'm also running the latest franco kernel with no limits rom, i would really appreciate it if someone could help me out .

nope only about 8 hours because of idle drain i guess
You are talking about drain while the screen is on? That doesn't seem like a high number to me. You might be able to extend that by choosing the most battery friendly governor, under clocking the CPU or some other things that will make the performance of the phone suffer--but I'm not sure why you would want to waste money on a powerful phone and then throttle everything to maximize battery life. I suppose you could also go into the Developer Settings and severely limit the number of background processes that are permitted to run and also keep the phone running in battery saver mode most of the time. It's ultimately your phone. I'm sure you can find some tips for extreme battery savings if you do a Google Search.
I get about 7.5-8% drain with my screen on based on AccuBattery and about .3-.7% with idle drain (screen off). The combined drain is about 2.8-4% per hour based on usage obviously.
For basic info, I'm on auto brightness, stock OOS and stock kernel and I'm a medium/heavy to heavy user. I use my phone A LOT for work and play.
If you do a lot of web surfing, I found that habit browser is the most feature packed browser and the lightest on battery drain, and it's free with an ad blocker! So that could help some.

Update:
Without any battery saving app or tweak, so far, my results are:
19.5 hours since 100% and off a charger
6 hrs and 50 mins of SOT
30% remaining
Looks like there really isn't much of a need for all those battery saving mods/apps! At least not for me and at this rate

Why?
Also, final result of my battery stats without any battery saving mods or tweaks:
23 hours usage
9 hours and 30 mins SOT (from 100%-5%)
Looks like I will no longer be using those battery saving tweaks

It's near to stable and benchmark is also increased
After 95% battery charging becomes slow.
Is it good to charge to 100% or 90% is enough for daily usage affecting on battery life?

Charging between 40 to 80 is the best for battery longevity.

Indeed. But the 1-100% that we see on screen is basically the 30-90% of REAL battery capacity. It's controlled by chip in battery. It's tested. Measured. 5 years ago by someone on XDA.
Same with Hybrid/Electric cars which shows us 1-100% which in reality is 40-70% of REAL battery capacity.
You cannot destroy your phone battery with regular charging until you don't put it over extreme heat.

The reason for 40-80 is not because of the capacity rather it's because of the shorter charge cycle. You just need 20 minutes to top up that much. so heat buildup is less. Also after 80 the battery gets heated more to top-up till 100 even though it's trickle charging.

Good, those battery saving things are not at all good for a running environment as they seek out the cancellation and constant stopping of programs processes and apps that your phone doesnt know how to react to other than restarting them which wastes more energy. I was never on the side of custom kernels but i had used them and received no benefit in performance or battery. Went to pure stock and my battery is insanely good. 5 hours of sot and i havent charged for 3 days still going even with Bluetooth and high accuracy location on all 67 hours with consistent switching between wifi and data but i do leave the data on in combination with WiFi no matter what.
