Visual Voicemail + Custom ROM - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Google Voice doesn't appear to work with Verizon, unless there is a workaround I'm not seeing.
Now that that's out of the way, I'm using the latest build of Cyanide ROM with my Nexus 6P on Verizon, and am looking for a visual voicemail app that will work well. I don't know how much to trust the vm apps on the Play Store, and I've tried several options (including the Google help link I'm directed to in Google Voice) and can't quite seem to get it to work. Any suggestions?

I can't believe it was that simple. Couldn't find that (didn't search more than 15 minutes, but still). Thanks, man. :good:

Google Search - Voice does not work

I've been running the Fresh Evo 4.0 Beta for a few weeks. I like it. But I've found the Google Voice Search does not work. The application opens but does not pick up any audio. It's not possible to uninstall and reinstall since it's part of the actual rom.
Any ideas how to resolve/fix? Anyone else encountered the same issue?
tgusnik
Google Voice Search is in the market, you should be able to uninstall and reinstall it from the there.
Also, I learned a couple months ago that removing the stock browser breaks voice search, fyi

Never an issue here.
The Sprint Gingerbread Beta & ROMs based off of it, have the voice features borked.

[Q] Google Navigation Stock Voice

So I had my Nexus 4 about 2+ months now (bought straight from Google) and just a few days ago I decided to root and install custom kernel and rom. Installed the Illusion ROM 2.0 and the Air Kernel. I also installed Slim Gapps (Slim_Gapps.4.2.2.build.6.x.zip) to get my Google apps because they are not included in the Illusion ROM. Everything is great except for the navigation voice. I used to have a woman's voice who said words clearly and sounded almost humanlike...or something close to it when speaking directions. Now I have this computer-generated woman voice which sounds crappy compared to what I had before.
How do I get the original voice back? I noticed in my text-to-speech settings that I have something called PicoTTS. Am I missing something like google related? Please help me find her
anyone?
Anyone? I did a proper search but couldn't find a concrete answer. Please help.
You should install the full google apps,or use Ivona text to speech from play store
Still want the original

Yeah I know Ivona exists. It's just that I was satisfied with the original voice provided with the Nexus 4. In fact, I really liked it I never thought that was an addon before flashing to a custom rom.
So you're saying that the Gapps provided by slim roms is not a full version?? If so, can you please provide a link where I can download the full google apps? I know the store doesn't have it cause I tried to search for it. Otherwise if any Nexus 4 owner is using the stock rom and included voice, can they somehow extract it and post a download link? It would be greatly appreciated.
If the above options aren't possible, then say I were to flash the stock rom again, would I get back the lost original voice? And then can someone give me instructions on how to extract the voice so I can install in a custom rom? This would be helpful too.
EDIT: Found downloadables. My search was flawed as I searched for "google text-to-speech, android text-to-speech, google tts, google tts nexus 4", etc. when I should've simply searched for "gapps" as "gapps tts" doesn't work either.

Add Google Account and Apps

After some tinkering, finally I was able to add Google account on Kindle Fire HDX and have Gmail working. Chrome also works with Sign-in but not YouTube. Google+ doesn't seem to work at all. I tried various version of Google+ with no luck. Instructions are in the link below.

I thought Google+ was being phased out for Hangouts?
It's too bad YouTube has yet to work on this tablet. I love it, but I can live without it on the HDX. I have other devices that do have YouTube.

To be correct, YouTube does work on the Kindle HDX and even Chromecasting. It just won't let me add my account to it.
Oh good! I don't care about adding my account, as long as I can search and watch!

Any ideas on getting Hangouts going? I tried installing, but everytime I open it it wants to update play services to a newer version.

Apps that require Play Services are not working. I have not gotten Google+ to work and not surprisingly Play Store doesn't work either. I did get Google Search and Google Now to work though.

That makes sense, thanks. Voice works as well, I loaded it after following your directions for gmail and it came right up.
I ever met the same problem, but it became normal without doing nothing.
Remove account
Anyone have an idea of how to delete an account once added? I tried the app "quick settings" but it crashes on the HDX. I ended up using an uninstall app to remove Google Account manager and when reinstalled they were gone, but was wondering if anyone had found a way to access the account manager itself?

Google Voice Search Now Fully Working on HDX

Version 3.1.8 of Google Voice Search was just released with huge changes. One of them appears to be that it's now fully compatible with the Kindle Fire HDX (except for the Google Now cards).
Most people confuse Google Now cards with Voice Search, and indeed, most of the features that most people like about "Google Now" are actually Voice Search features--and now available on the HDX. I've downloaded and tested, and I'm able to:
* Request Google searches via voice
* Ask "Where is (Walmart, Post Office, etc.)?" and it pulls up a map.
* Tell it to set an appointment and it does.
* Asked trivia questions ("Who is Barack Obama?" and the voice instantly gives me a short bio).
* Set reminders

I found out what was causing it to crash on me: Somehow Google Play Services seemed to cause force-closes. Once I deleted it from the Fire, Google Voice Search works like a charm once more.

Probably needs the updated Google Play Services. I will install that and see what that does and if Voice works with it.

I still think effort should be put into finding a newer version of the "google services framework" than the 4.0.4 version used elsewhere. I tried extracting from another device, but was not sucessful. I guess it tries to install to /system or something like that. But considering that there is a 4.0.4 version that works (kinda, except for the FC's) i have hope that someone who knows their stuff would be able to provide a 4.2.2 version that is installable on our HDX's

I have Google Services Framework beyond 4.04 and even the latest but it won't even install on the Kindle Fire. It requires a higher version of Android then the Kindle. I was able to get Google Search 3.18 to work with the latest Play Services. I was also able to install the Google Launcher from KitKat. It works fine but wallpaper doesn't work.

I see. Thanks
How did you install the launcher successfully? I tried, but it kept complaining that google search was not installed (even though it was installed & working).
On another note, i found out that you can actually uninstall google services framework AFTER you have signed in to your apps, and voila: no more FC's It seems to preserve login & functionality info even after a reboot (but i just have gmail, youtube & chrome beta installed as they are the only gapps i intend to use regularly)

You need to install the latest Play Services which then makes Search work which then makes Launcher work. Grab the files from here under latest Google apps.

Heh, i thought i did that, but apprantly not... Now it works! Thanks
I may be slow on the uptake, but I was surprised this morning to see that I could get the "OK Google" hot keywords to automatically activated Google Search....as quickly as on any device I've ever owned.
Google Now also works fine with all cards. I have every app working WITHOUT losing any Amazon services *EXCEPT* Play Store. I do have every other app, including Hangouts & G+ working 100% & I can start Play Store & login, but it is being closed by the intent proxy. I am working on a solution to that as i have time.

Autovoice and Google Now - It looks like your AutoVoice account is not yet linked

I am on a Galaxy S8 and Android 7.0.
Following this guidance, http://lifehacker.com/how-to-create-custom-voice-commands-with-tasker-and-aut-1282209195, I installed Tasker and AutoVoice. Google app already installed. I enabled Autovoice accessibility service and AutoVoice Google Now integration.
OK Google is enabled on all screens.
However, when I say "OK Google, use Autovoice" Google consistantly comes back with "It looks like your AutoVoice account is not linked yet." How do I do this?
When I run AutoVoice Testing with my trigger words, they work. I have another 6.0 Android device where all this (Tasker, Autovoice, Google Now) works seamlessly.
Is there some other step required for S8 / Android 7.0 go get AutoVoice integrated with Google Now?

There is a difference between using the Google now voice search and using Google assistant. The running service is for Google now. The screenshot you posted is of Google assistant, in which you have to be apart of the Google + community for the app in order for it to work.
If you're just looking for basic usage, use Google now voicesearch and not Google assistant

Thank you very much! This is the first clue I've been handed to the source of my problem. You are right. On my px5 head unit, there are no settings for Google Assistant. On my S8, there are. However, I don't know why they are there, or how to disable Google Assistant without disabling OK Google. When I disable GA and speak "OK Google", it immediately asks me to turn GA back on to respond. Do you know how I can resolve this? Again, thanks!

Never mind. I found it: https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...ndroid-device-switch-back-google-now-0174676/
Problem is, don't have root on Galaxy S8. Google REALLY needs to give us the option for something like this instead of forcing it down our throats whether we like it or not!!!

No problem man. I use tasker, autovoice, and autoremote religiously haha. Too much home automation and laziness not to utilize them. You should look into the natural language it can now use. Takes a while to understand and set up, but after that, it's much better than regular recognize

I'm having fun, and pulling my hair out, just trying to get this going right now. At least twice this week I was in my car (head unit not installed yet) and really wanted to send time sensitive messages on my s8 using Google Voice. I don't text and drive, religiously. But being able to say "google voice text so-and-so" would have been quite useful.
One last, final question: I've been learning tasker/autovoice on a rooted px5. Just got this galaxy s8 and, of course, it's not rooted. Looks like I shell commands a lot in my profiles, particularly "input keyword" and "input text".
So, if I want to send %avcommnofilter as response to app, do you recommend autoinput for that?

FINALLY! This is how you link AutoVoice (or any 3rd party app) to Google Assistant: https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/websearch/HwJUpkrHPr4/xIJACIlEAwAJ
So, you have to say "OK, Google, ask Autovoice to...." followed by your AutoVoice command. Still wish I could just say "OK, Google" then command, but this will do for now.
