However, I now barely use this phone but it needs to remain on for a couple of texts or phone calls a week or random app usage, most of the time it remains idle so I believe the power savings if dose works should be noticeable? Anyways, I wanted to know which rom would have the best battery life since I don't really care about features etc, but I don't want the phone to be unstable for day to day use in the future, just in case as it is my backup phone. I'm currently on optimised cm 13 from a couple of months ago on a i9505.

It seems to be a general consensus that TouchWiz ROMs have better battery life than costucustom ROMs. So maybe you should start there.

I love to play around with new ROMs and kernels and usually don't mind a few hiccups and occasional poor performance. But soon I will have a one week period where I need my phone to be as solid as possible. What's the best ROM/kernel for this?
I currently use CM7 as my daily and have tested CM9. CM7 is great except battery life is pretty bad, with both the CM7 and Samurai kernels. I lose about 1% of battery for every 90 secs I'm actively doing something - even on Wifi and with a strong 3g signal. A 15minute drive with GPS (and screen off) easily takes 10% off my battery. This is unacceptable for my upcoming event.
I would like a ROM/kernel combo that can go for a minimum of 12 hours with moderate use. No voice, but frequent texting, email, twitter checks, some photos, and calling up pdfs. Battery life and stability are the top concerns, but GPS is important as well. CM7 gives me the best GPS results I've ever had with my Epic, but like I said, the battery performance is awful.
Any ideas? Focusing on all the cutting edge stuff means I've lost touch with the latest improvements on the more basic, but more solid ROMs.

get a larger battery or pick up a spare oe battery as a backup.
this is one of those questions you just dont ask cause it all depends on how you use your phone and all that i know you say what you mostly use it for but it still doesnt help if you are looking for a stable rom as far as mtd goes they are all good and as far as kernels go they are all good but the kicker is just finding what works best for you feel free to play around with them flash one per day and figure out which one works best for you cause honestly we cant tell you cause what would extend our battery life might not work for you because you use your phone differently than we do but trust me all of our devs are gonna throw out something that doesnt work all the warnings are there and all the help and how to's for each rom and kernel are in their respective threads sorry i couldnt give you a better answer bud

Oh and I forgot to mention since you have been running cm7 make sure you don't flash a bml rom not sure if u were aware of that or not so only flash and MTD rom and kernel
CleanGB. No OC/UV, and buy an epic touch 1800mah battery. For me I get best responsiveness vs battery life if I run 100/800mhz with governer set to performance. You'd have to REALLY try to kill that battery in a day with this setup.
Edit: you use gps in the car without plugging it in? No wonder your battery commits suicide lol. If I use gps and stream music through bluetooth it still discharges on the charger.
There is no such thing. Even pure stock has errors on some people's phones. You need to try one or if it is that important than stock is your best bet. EVERY Phone is different. Read through some of the ROMs...95% of the people have no problems and 5% do. It is the nature of the beast. No one can tell which is best for YOUR phone. And if CM7 is giving you terrible battery life, there already is something wrong with your phone setup. You probably need to start from scratch and restore no apps or data and download apps fresh from the market.
I've always had good luck with CleanGB roms & kernals by toadlife.

But not everybody does. There is no best. I can easily say marcusantrom with shadow kernel is best on touchwiz and CM7 with the kernel it comes with is the best in general. I won't say this because different people have different phones and preferences... if you really want the best rom/kernel/theme, make it yourself.

I know everything about rooting and flashing just wonder wich rom is best for:
Stable, NO BLOATWARE and battery performance...
I can remove the bloatware myself!
Just want the rom with the loongest battery life...

Battery life actually depends on alot of factors. For example, the number of running apps and how many times it wakes the phone, how long the screen is turned on, what apps you use, the kernel, signal strength.

Of course I know this, but there is always a rom wich has better batteri life than others when you have standard usage of your phone..
Lets call this 30 sms daily
10 mails daily
15 minutes browsing news with browser
1 hour of call time
2 mms
And a couple of facebook updates
When you play games and things like that is a whole other story. But most of the time the rom with the best battery will always have the best battery either you play a lot, surf a lot and so on...
Hey guys, i have made an observation recently.
i have been using CM nightlies for about a month or two now, and i have noticed the battery to be quite, meh
standby times are pretty terrible tbh.
so i tried carbon rom and noticed the standby times were much better along with the screen time.
with cm nightlies, i have used several battery monitoring apps and i have come to the conclusion that the phone isnt sleeping properly,
or some sort of app is waking the phone a lot, these being system apps.
can anyone confirm this? thanks

But I can also confirm that no CM based comes even close to stock based roms when it comes to battery life
Same settings being used I get 5.5~6h of screen time on a stock based vs 3.5-4.25h I get on a CM. And idle times are pretty much awful on CM. Every update theres always something new draining the battery.

I am interested in getting the Galaxy Note 3 - SM-N900W8, Canadian variant from windmobile.
Just want to inquire about couple of things, if the current users can give input, would really appreciate it!
Firstly, If I want to flash a custom rom? Which one is good in terms of performance, battery life, and no FC and etc. (I am talking about TW samsung roms). What kernel do I have to flash, so I can use the custom roms?
Secondly, if I dont want a custom, and just want to stick to my stock rom, how do I debloat from samsung and google apps? Can I do this without using the custom recovery (to avoid tampering knox)?
Thirdly, how is the battery life on an untampered note 3? What custom and kernel improves the battery life and by how much? The usage is mixed from web browsing lightly on HSPA+ to emails, texting, whats app, and calling for 20 to 30 minutes.
And is the home button resolved? Like is the new batch of note 3 not having this issue or any other?

I havent rooted my own phone yet because I don't want to lose my warranty to knox quite yet. However, I think it's too early to speak of which roms/kernels are good, since there aren't many of them out there yet. Give it a month more at least. The Note 3 home button issue was extremely overrated. I haven't had the issue at all and none of my friends who also bought the Note 3.

I don't play much. It's not a part of my daily routine, I only do it when I am extremely bored. I usually use my phone for Tapatalk, radio when I'm wandering around in the house, text/phone of course and then reading on Reddit quite a lot. I usually have 2-3 hours of screen and 15-20 hours in total before I run out. So it keep juice for a whole day pretty much, however if you play for an hour or two, you'll get in trouble. I have 4g, wifi, GPS and sync on as well as 100% brightness. honest opinion about the battery ;disappointed. I'm sure rooting can help a lot though.
Remember that some has better experience with the battery than me, but there are others who is disappointed as well. My impression in general is 1 day usage with stock and 2 days with root where you have debloated and greenified everything (maybe even custom kernel and rom) When I read the forums.

This is really great. With every other phone I had before (iPhone5, Lumia 920, etc.) I would be at 0-40% with that usage.
I know, I know, YMMV. A similar question to this one was asked in late April. A LOT has happened on custom ROMs for the MXPE since then (thank you to the devs who continue to work on this phone). I wonder what ROM users think would yield the best battery life now.

Stock gives the best battery life without significant kernel tweaking in most cases. Motorola at least got one thing right, they optimized the heck out of that kernel, too bad they used an LCD display panel that uses more battery than a few "normal" panels combined, nothing we can do about that.
As mentioned above, stock is definitely the best for battery life, but for me the gap has closed considerably.
In the last few months the CM based roms have gotten good enough that battery life is comparable to stock. I've been running AICP pretty much exclusively since August. Standby drain is a touch higher on AICP, but the difference is so small now that it doesn't make any real difference in how often I charge my phone.
I haven't spent any significant time on AOSP based roms recently, but they used to have pretty poor battery life when compared to stock. I'd lose like 10% battery just idling overnight vs. 2 - 3% on stock. AOSP might have improved a lot recently as well, because the CM based roms used to run that way too.

If battery life is your primary concern N is a little better for me, except for an audio out wakelock I get. Streaming audio from Pandora or playing video in a browser tab and things like that keep my phone from getting back to sleep sometimes. Only seems like streaming does it to me. Playing local music doesn't do that. Takes a reboot to fix it. Not a huge problem once I figured out what to watch for.
With this phone, if you want everything to work right, and good consistent battery life, stock is the only way to go. No matter how much effort is put into the custom roms for this phone, there is always something wrong, and they require a ton of tweaking to get battery life to equal stock. So just use stock with xposed for customization for the best experience with this phone.

Yeah, battery life is the most important for me because of my heavy usage, but the problem with Stock & TruPure is that somehow my tether/hotspot is being tracked and it's limiting my speeds for that. On AOSP ROM's the tether/hotspot speeds are consistent with Sprint LTE. I have an average of 4 hours SOT daily and need to charge the phone 2-3 times fully a day on turbo charger.

If you are using a lot of data when you tether/hotspot, then you are not going to see any big differences in battery life regardless of ROMs or tweaks. Using a lot of mobile data via a hotspot, even with the screen off, will be heavy on the battery.

The only non-stock rom I have gotten good battery life, without having to do a ton of tweaking, is CrDroid. It has issues though, like taking 20 seconds to open the camera, and the stupid stuttering when changing orientation in youtube, that most of the custom roms have.

The "stupid stuttering when changing orientation", if you are referring to the audio stutter, is because when you turn your phone in landscape to the right (with the volume buttons underneath) the Left and Right channels switch.
This "feature" Motorola put in Lollipop and then pulled out by them again in Marshmallow, it can be disabled by a simple edit into build.prop

Or you could delete the whole line. Note that reflashing a custom rom zip replaces your build.prop file!
It doesn't happen on the stock rom, so it isn't a problem
I use AICP 11 or Resurrection Remix 5.7.4. I can get over two days on a charge. I don't do games or Bluetooth. Just mail, text, browser and music. See attached screenshot.
Custom ROM's are Ressurection Remix and CrDroid to give you the most battery (i don't know about AICP, never used it)
Stock ROM still gives me the best "user experience/battery life" since i don't mind recharging every night, but i get home with something next to 35%, then i "watch some videos/play some games" to get the battery down, till i go to bed it gets to something like 5%, then I leave it charging through the night
ps: not sure if it makes any difference, but i charge it with the 15w turbo charger that i bought in a Motorola Store not the 25w that came in the box, it heats to much with the 25w one, no heat at all in the 15w version

I've noticed the phone heats up more on the 25W charger, but it is nice in a pinch. I just charge in the evening with a 15W charger and go through the night without charging. I keep my 25W at work (for those slow days in which I watch movies/shows).
